The gas-phase pyrolysis of cyclopropylamine. A computational study on the kinetics and reaction mechanism

Small amines represent an accessible model to understand the reactivity of the nitrogenous components of biomass during combustion and pyrolysis processes. In this work, the kinetics and mechanism of the gas-phase pyrolysis of cyclopropylamine, c-C3H5NH2, have been studied by ab initio and density functional calculations. From the derived information high-pressure limit rate coefficients were estimated using the transition state theory over the 400 – 1400 K temperature range. The results support a stepwise process, in which the initial ring-opening stage determines the rate through competitive direct, biradical and carbene mechanisms to give 1-aminopropene, CH3CH=CHNH2, and 1-propanimine, CH3CH2CH=NH, as reactive intermediates. The Arrhenius equation obtained at the G3(MP2)//B3LYP/6–311++G(3df,3pd) level of theory, log10 (koverall,∞/s-1) = (15.47 ± 0.11) – (57.68 ± 0.32) kcal mol-1 (2.303 RT)-1, agrees very well with the experimental expression determined by Parry and Robinson. According to these findings, the carbenic pathway is most important up to ∼500 K, above which the biradical mechanism predominates. Subsequent reaction steps include the addition of the CH3CH=CHNH2 and CH3CH2CH=NH species to another c-C3H5NH2 molecule to produce c-C3H5NHCH(NH2)CH2CH3, which afterwards decomposes into c-C3H5N=CHCH2CH3 and NH3. The results also reveal relatively high electronic barriers for the interconversion between the geometric isomers of CH3CH=CHNH2 and CH3CH2CH=NH, suggesting that the contribution of these processes is negligible. Further calculations of the title reaction in the presence of selected aliphatic amines RNH2 (R = Me, Et,n-Pr, i-Pr, allyl) confirm that the unimolecular fission of the ring is the rate determining step.

Theoretical Study of Intramolecular H-Migration Reactions of Peroxyl Radicals of JP-10 (Exo-Tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene)

ABSTRACT Intramolecular H-migration reactions of peroxyl radicals of JP-10 (C10H15OO•) play an important role in developing the oxidation mechanism of JP-10 at low temperature. However, accurate rate coefficients for these reactions are lacking in the literature. Therefore, 33 H-migration reactions of C10H15OO•, which belong to six series of reactions, were investigated. Quantum chemical computations at the CBS-QB3 level reveal that C10H15OO• do not obey the rule that the energy barrier of 1,4-H migration reaction is higher than that of 1,5-H migration reaction because of the special steric cyclic structure of C10H15OO• and the ring strain in the transition state. The transition state theory and Rice-Ramsberger-Kassel-Marcus/Master-Equation theory were used to obtain high-pressure limit rate coefficients and pressure-dependent rate coefficients, respectively. The results show that H-migration reactions of C10H15OO• have obvious pressure-dependent effect. The most competitive reaction was obtained among 33 reactions. Moreover, branching ratios of each series of reactions were used as weight ratios to lump this series of reactions. Six series of reactions were lumped as six lumped reactions by the isomer lumping method. This will provide accurate rate coefficients for constructing a mechanism with the low number of species and suitability for computational fluid dynamics simulation.

Pressure Dependence of Rate Coefficients of Unimolecular and Chemical Activation Reactions Connected to the Potential Energy Wells of Si2H2Cl4, Si2Cl6, and Si2Cl4 via Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus Calculations.

Rate coefficients for elementary reactions connected to the potential energy wells of Si2H2Cl4, Si2Cl6, and Si2Cl4, which are important Si2 species in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes that use chlorosilanes as silicon source gases, were determined through the Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus theory under various conditions of temperature and pressure. The optimized structures and vibrational frequencies of the reactants, products, and transition state were obtained using (U)B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p), and the single-point energies of the optimized structures were recalculated using the coupled cluster method with single and double excitations plus triple perturbation (U)CCSD(T) with complete basis set extrapolation. Many of the unimolecular decomposition channels and chemical activation reactions investigated in this work were found to be in the fall-off regime under subatmospheric to moderately high-pressure conditions so that it is expected that accurate modeling of the gas phase in the chlorosilane CVD reactor requires careful determination of the rate coefficients as functions of temperature and pressure for the conditions of interest, instead of using high-pressure limit rate coefficients. The rate coefficients determined here were expressed through Chebyshev coefficients and also modified Arrhenius parameters to be used in simulations of systems under a wide range of temperature and pressure conditions.

Rate Coefficients for OH + NO (+N2) in the Fall-off Regime and the Impact of Water Vapor

The termolecular, association reaction between OH and NO is a source of nitrous acid (HONO), an important atmospheric trace gas. Rate coefficients for the title reaction as recommended by evaluation panels differ substantially at the temperatures and pressures that prevail in the Earth’s boundary layer where the reaction is in the fall-off regime between low- and high-pressure limiting rate coefficients. Using pulsed laser methods for generation and detection of OH, we have reinvestigated the kinetics of the title reaction at pressures of 22–743 Torr (1 Torr = 1.333 hPa) and temperatures (273, 298, and 333 K) in pure N2 and in N2–H2O bath gases. In situ optical absorption measurements were used to rule out any bias due to NO2 or HONO impurities. Our rate coefficients (k1) in N2 bath gas are parametrized in terms of low-pressure (k0) and high-pressure (k∞) rate coefficients and a fall-off parameter (FC) with k1,0N2 = 7.24 × 10–31 (T/300 K)−2.17 cm6 molecule–2 s–1, k1,∞ = 3.3 × 10–12 (T/300 K)−0.3 cm3 molecule–1 s–1, and FC = 0.53. Used with the “Troe” expression for termolecular reactions, these parameters accurately reproduce the current data in the fall-off regime and also capture literature rate coefficients at extrapolated temperatures. The presence of water vapor was found to enhance the rate coefficients of the title reaction significantly. The low-pressure limiting rate coefficient in H2O bath gas is a factor 5–6 larger than in N2, at room temperature (k1,0H2O = 4.55 × 10–30 (T/300 K)−4.85 cm6 molecule–2 s–1) indicating that H2O is much more efficient in quenching the association complex HONO* through collisional energy transfer. Based on measurements in N2–H2O mixtures, a parametrization of k1 including both N2 and H2O as third-body quenchers was derived. Neglecting the effect of H2O results, e.g., in an underestimation of k1 by >10% in the tropical boundary layer.

The merit of pressure dependent kinetic modelling in steam cracking.

Renewable cracking feedstocks from plastic waste and the need for novel reactor designs related to electrification of steam crackers drives the development of accurate and fundamental kinetic models for this process, despite its large scale implementation for more than half a century. Pressure dependent kinetics have mostly been omitted in fundamental steam cracking models, while they are crucial in combustion models. Therefore, we have assessed the importance of pressure dependent kinetics for steam cracking via in-depth modelling and experimental studies. In particular we have studied the influence of considering fall-off on the product yields for ethane and propane steam cracking. A high-pressure limit fundamental kinetic model is generated, based on quantum chemical data and group additive values, and supplemented with literature values for pressure dependent kinetic parameters for β-scission reactions and homolytic bond scissions of C2 and C3 species. Model simulations with high-pressure limit rate coefficients and pressure dependent kinetics are compared to new experimental measurements. Steam cracking experiments for pure ethane and propane feeds are performed on a tubular bench-scale reactor at 0.17 MPa and temperatures ranging from 1058 to 1178 K. All important product species are identified using a comprehensive GC × GC-FID/q-MS. For homolytic bond scissions, the inclusion of pressure dependent kinetics has a significant effect on the conversion profile for ethane steam cracking. On the other hand, pressure dependence of C2 β-scissions significantly influences conversion and product species profiles for both ethane and propane steam cracking. The C3 β-scissions pressure dependence has a negligible effect in ethane steam cracking, while for propane steam cracking the effect is non-negligible on the product species profiles.

An experimental and theoretical kinetic study of the reactions of hydroxyl radicals with tetrahydrofuran and two deuterated tetrahydrofurans

Rate coefficient expressions for the reactions of OH radicals with tetrahydrofuran (THF) (1), 2,2,5,5-tetradeutero-tetrahydrofuran (THF–d4) (2) and perdeuterated-tetrahydrofuran (THF–d8) (3) were determined from relative kinetic experiments over the temperature range T = 260–360 K displaying a small negative T-dependence. The following rate coefficients were determined at T = 298 K in 10–11 cm3 molecule–1 s−1: k1 = (1.73 ± 0.23), k2 = (0.85 ± 0.11) and k3 = (0.81 ± 0.12). The experimental k (T) values agree reasonably well with the high-pressure limit rate coefficients obtained from conventional transition state theory using input data from CCSD(T)/cc-pV(T,Q)Z//MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ computations. Standard enthalpies of formation for THF and two product furanyl radicals were also computed and compared with literature.

Shock Tube Laser Schlieren Study of the Pyrolysis of Isopropyl Nitrate.

The decomposition of isopropyl nitrate was measured behind incident shock waves using laser schlieren densitometry in a diaphragmless shock tube. Experiments were conducted over the temperature range of 700-1000 K and at pressures of 71, 126, and 240 Torr. Electronic structure theory and RRKM Master Equation methods were used to predict the decomposition kinetics. RRKM/ME parameters were optimized against the experimental data to provide an accurate prediction over a broader range of conditions. The initial decomposition i-C3H7ONO2 ⇌ i-C3H7O + NO2 has a high-pressure limit rate coefficient of 5.70 × 1022T-1.80 exp[-21287.5/T] s-1. A new chemical kinetic mechanism was developed to model the chemistry after the initial dissociation. A new shock tube module was developed for Cantera, which allows for arbitrarily large mechanisms in the simulation of laser schlieren experiments. The present work is in good agreement with previous experimental studies.

Thermal dissociation of alkyl nitrites and recombination of alkyl radicals

The thermal dissociations of three alkyl nitrites (C3H7ONO, n-C4H9ONO, and i-C4H9ONO) have been studied in a diaphragmless shock tube by laser schlieren densitometry over 700 < T < 1000 K and 60 < P < 250 Torr. The nitrites act as clean, thermal sources of alkyl radicals that create the radicals at much lower temperatures than are accessible with other precursors. The decomposition of the three nitrites proceeds via a common mechanism, which is discussed. Rate coefficients for dissociation of the alkyl nitrites to an alkoxy radical and NO, k1, were obtained with an uncertainty of 30%. Rice–Ramsperger–Kassel–Marcus/Master Equation (RRKM/ME) calculations for dissociation of the nitrites were performed and provide excellent simulations of the experimental results. The high-pressure limit rate coefficients from the RRKM/ME calculations are: k1,C3H7ONO=(5.69±1.71)×1021T−1.60exp(−21458/T)s−1; k1,n−C4H9ONO=(9.91±2.97)×1021T−1.59exp(−21588/T)s−1; k1,i−C4H9ONO=(3.92±1.18)×1021T−1.58exp(−21162/T)s−1. At the low temperatures of this work, the alkyl radicals are thermally stable and thus their recombination reactions were also studied. The recombination rate coefficients for ethyl, n-propyl and i-propyl radicals (uncertainties of 50%) are in excellent agreement with literature values, particularly recent theoretical results, and extend the range of experiments to higher temperatures.

On-the-fly ab initio calculations toward accurate rate coefficients

During automatic kinetic model generation a large number of reactions need to have kinetic data assigned to them. One of the main challenges is on how to account for the large scarcity of accurate data. The ever-growing computational power and availability of high performance computing solutions allows to envisage implementing on-the-fly ab initio calculations for a large number of reaction rate coefficients. Today extensive user knowledge and involvement is required to develop fast and effective ab initio based kinetic models. The present work introduces a series of automation procedures to minimize user involvement. It allows automated quantum chemical calculations for a large number of reactions for gas-phase processes with a wide variety in chemical species. 3D coordinates are calculated for all the reactants, products and transition states and automatically submitted to quantum chemistry packages. The latter yield accurate high-pressure limit rate coefficients. All steps are automated without the need for manual interventions, even for recognizing rotational frequencies and for verifying whether the saddle point searches lead to the appropriate transition state. A good agreement to literature data is found, i.e., most of the rate coefficients are within a factor of 2 of literature data.

A theoretical study of the thermal stability of the FS(O2)OSO2 radical and the recombination kinetics with the FSO3 radical

The kinetics of the thermal reaction of FS(O2)OO(O2)SF with SO2 have been theoretically studied. Experimental investigations performed at 293–323 K indicate that the FSO3 radical, in equilibrium with the peroxide FS(O2)OO(O2)SF ⇄ 2 FSO3 (1, -1), initially attacks the SO2 forming the FS(O2)OSO2 radical which afterwards may dissociate back, FSO3 + SO2 ⇄ FS(O2)OSO2 (2, -2), or recombine with FSO3 generating the final product, FSO3 + FS(O2)OSO2 → (FS(O2)O)2SO2 (3). Several DFT formulations and composite ab initio models were employed to characterize FS(O2)OSO2 molecular properties and to determine relevant potential energy surfaces features of reactions (2), (-2) and (3). Transition state theory calculations lead to the high pressure rate coefficients k∞,2=9.1×10-14exp(-5.2kcal mol-1/RT)cm3molecule-1s-1 and k∞,-2=4.9×1015exp(-13.9kcal mol-1/RT)s-1 while statistical adiabatic channel model (SACM/CT) calculations predict for the barrierless reaction (3) the expression k∞,3=2.9×10-11(T/300)0.4cm3molecule-1s-1. The experimental phenomenological rate coefficients are very well reproduced by these rate coefficients.

Pressure Dependence of Rate Coefficients for Formation and Dissociation of Pentachlorodisilane and Related Chemical Activation Reactions

Four entrance channels to the pentachlorodisilane (Si2HCl5) potential energy well, namely, SiCl2 + SiHCl3, SiCl4 + SiHCl, Cl3SiSiCl + HCl, and SiCl3 + SiHCl2, were analyzed in detail through transition state theory, Rice–Ramsperger–Kassel–Marcus (RRKM) theory, and solution of the multichannel master equation. The stationary points in the potential energy surface were optimized, and their vibrational frequencies and rotational constants calculated at the (U)B3LYP/6–31+G(d,p) level of theory; the (U)CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ level was then used for accurate estimation of activation energies. The pressure and temperature dependence of the rate coefficients of the channels related to Si2HCl5 stabilization/dissociation was determined along a wide range of conditions, for the first time. All channels showed strong pressure dependence in the four cases, at least at low-to-moderate pressure conditions. Each entrance channel leads to the formation of different products under different conditions, and the mechanism was analyzed in detail. The results indicated that at atmospheric pressure the reactions are in the falloff region, and therefore do not support the adoption of high-pressure limit rate coefficients in reaction models designed for simulation of systems at atmospheric or subatmospheric pressure conditions.

An Experimental Study of the Kinetics of OH/OD(v = 1,2,3) + SO2: The Limiting High-Pressure Rate Coefficients as a Function of Temperature.

The kinetics of the reaction OH/OD(v = 1,2,3) + SO2 were studied using a photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence technique. The rate coefficients OH/OD(v = 1,2,3) + SO2, k1, over the temperature range of 295-810 K were used to determine the limiting high-pressure limit k1∞. This method is usually applicable if the reaction samples the potential well of the adduct HOSO2 and if intramolecular vibrational relaxation is fast. In the present case, however, the rate coefficients showed an additional fast removal contribution as evidenced by the increase in k1 with vibrational level; this behavior together with its temperature dependence is consistent with the existence of a weakly bound complex on the potential energy surface prior to adduct formation. The data were analyzed using a composite mechanism that incoporates energy-transfer mechanisms via both the adduct and the complex, and yielded a value of k1∞(295 K) equal to (7.2 ± 3.3) × 10-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 (errors at 1σ), a factor of between 2 and 3 smaller than the current recommended IUPAC and JPL values of (2.0-1.0+2.0) and (1.6 ± 0.4) × 10-12 cm3 molecule-1 s-1 at 298 K, respectively, although the error bars do overlap. k1∞ was observed to only depend weakly on temperature. Further evidence for a smaller k1∞ is presented in the companion paper.

An Experimental and Master Equation Study of the Kinetics of OH/OD + SO2: The Limiting High-Pressure Rate Coefficients.

The kinetics of the reaction OH/OD + SO2 were studied using a laser flash photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence technique. Evidence for two-photon photolysis of SO2 at 248 nm is presented and quantified, and which appears to have been evident to some extent in most previous photolysis studies, potentially leading to values for the rate coefficient k1 that are too large. The kinetics of the reaction OH(v = 0) + SO2 (T = 295 K, p = 25-300 torr) were measured under conditions where SO2 photolysis was taken into account. These results, together with literature data, were modeled using a master equation analysis. This analysis highlighted problems with the literature data: the rate coefficients derived from flash photolysis data were generally too high and from the flow tube data too low. Our best estimate of the high-pressure limiting rate coefficient k1∞ was obtained from selected data and gives a value of (7.8 ± 2.2) × 10-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1, which is lower than that recommended in the literature. A parametrized form of k1([N2],T) is provided. The OD(v = 0) + SO2 (T = 295 K, p = 25-300 torr) data are reported for the first time, and master equation analysis reinforces our assignment of k1∞.

Formation, thermal decomposition and atmospheric implications of the CF2(OH)CF2OONO2 and CF3CF2OONO2 peroxynitrates. A theoretical study

A SACM/CT study of the CF2(OH)CF2OO+NO2→CF2(OH)CF2OONO2 and CF3CF2OO+NO2→CF3CF2OONO2 recombination reactions and their reverse unimolecular decomposition process was performed. The electronic energy along the reaction pathways was calculated at the G4(MP2) level. High-pressure rate coefficients of 1.53×10−12(T/300)0.37cm3molecule−1s−1 and 1.79×1016(T/300)0.40exp(−24.4kcalmol−1/RT)s−1 were derived at 200–300K for the direct and backward reactions of CF2(OH)CF2OONO2, while for CF3CF2OONO2, the expressions 1.01×10−12(T/300)0.39cm3molecule−1s−1 and 1.05×1016(T/300)0.44exp(−23.0kcalmol−1/RT)s−1 were obtained. A decomposition lifetime profile was derived for CF2(OH)CF2OONO2, indicating that it could act as transport and reservoir of CF2(OH)CF2OO and NO2 in the stratosphere.

Theoretical Study of the Ti–Cl Bond Cleavage Reaction in TiCl4

Abstract In this work the kinetics of the TiCl4 ⇌ TiCl3 + Cl reaction is studied theoretically. A variable-reaction coordinate transition-state theory (VRC-TST) is used to calculate the high-pressure limit rate coefficients. The interaction energy surface for the VRC-TST step is sampled directly at the CASPT2(6e,4o)/cc-pVDZ level of theory including an approximate treatment of the spin-orbit coupling. The pressure-dependence of the reaction in an argon bath gas is explored using the master equation in conjunction with the optimised VRC-TST transition-state number of states. The collisional energy transfer parameters for the TiCl4–Ar system are estimated via a “one-dimensional minimisation” method and classical trajectories. The Ti–Cl bond dissociation energy is computed using a complete basis set extrapolation technique with cc-pVQZ and cc-pV5Z basis sets. Good quantitative agreement between the estimated rate constants and available literature data is observed. However, the fall-off behaviour of the model results is not seen in the current experimental data. Sensitivity analysis shows that the fall-off effect is insensitive to the choice of model parameters and methods. More experimental work and development of higher-level theoretical methods are needed to further investigate this discrepancy.

Thermal Decomposition of 2-Pentanol: A Shock Tube Study and RRKM Calculations.

A single pulse shock tube was used to study the thermal decomposition of 2-pentanol in the temperatures between 1110 and 1325 K. Three major decomposition products are methane, ethylene, and propylene. The minor products detected in lower concentration are ethane, acetylene, acetaldehyde, 1-pentene, and 2-pentene. The rate coefficient for the overall decomposition of 2-pentanol was found to be ktotalexp(1110-1325 K) = (4.01 ± 0.51) × 109 exp(-(36.2 ± 4.7)/RT) s-1, where the activation energies are given in kcal mol-1. To simulate reactant and product distribution over the experimentally studied temperatures between 1110 and 1325 K, a reaction scheme was constructed with 34 species and 39 reactions. In addition to this, the temperature and pressure dependent rate coefficients were computed for various unimolecular dissociation pathways using RRKM theory. The high pressure limit rate coefficient for overall decomposition of 2-pentanol was obtained to be ktotaltheory(500-2500 K) = (9.67 ± 1.11) × 1014 exp(-(67.7 ± 2.9)/RT) s-1. The calculated high pressure rate coefficients and experimentally measured rate constants are in good agreement with each other. The reaction is primarily governed by the unimolecular elimination of water.

A theoretical study of cyclic ether formation reactions

Cyclisation reactions of hydroperoxyl–alkyl radicals forming cyclic ethers and hydroxyl radicals play an important role in low temperature oxidation chemistry. These reactions contribute to the competition between radical chain propagation and chain branching reaction pathways which dominate the reactivity of alkanes at temperatures where negative temperature coefficient (NTC) behaviour is often observed. This work is motivated by previous experimental and modelling evidences that current literature rate coefficients for these reactions are in need of refinement and/or re-determination. In light of this, the current study presents quantum-chemically-derived high-pressure limit rate coefficients for all cyclisation reactions leading to cyclic ether formation in alkanes ranging in size from C2 to C5. Ro-vibrational properties of each stationary point were determined at the M06-2X/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. Coupled cluster (CCSD(T)) and Møller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) methods were employed with various basis sets and complete basis set extrapolation techniques to compute the energies of the resulting geometries. These methods, combined with canonical transition state theory, have been used to determine 43 rate coefficients, with enough structural diversity within the reactions to allow for their application to larger species for which the use of the levels of theory employed herein would be computationally prohibitive. The validity of an alternative, and computationally less expensive, technique to approximate the complete basis set limit energies is also discussed, together with implications of this work for combustion modelling.

Reanalysis of Rate Data for the Reaction CH3 + CH3 → C2H6 Using Revised Cross Sections and a Linearized Second-Order Master Equation.

Rate coefficients for the CH3 + CH3 reaction, over the temperature range 300-900 K, have been corrected for errors in the absorption coefficients used in the original publication ( Slagle et al., J. Phys. Chem. 1988 , 92 , 2455 - 2462 ). These corrections necessitated the development of a detailed model of the B̃(2)A1' (3s)-X̃(2)A2″ transition in CH3 and its validation against both low temperature and high temperature experimental absorption cross sections. A master equation (ME) model was developed, using a local linearization of the second-order decay, which allows the use of standard matrix diagonalization methods for the determination of the rate coefficients for CH3 + CH3. The ME model utilized inverse Laplace transformation to link the microcanonical rate constants for dissociation of C2H6 to the limiting high pressure rate coefficient for association, k∞(T); it was used to fit the experimental rate coefficients using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm to minimize χ(2) calculated from the differences between experimental and calculated rate coefficients. Parameters for both k∞(T) and for energy transfer ⟨ΔE⟩down(T) were varied and optimized in the fitting procedure. A wide range of experimental data were fitted, covering the temperature range 300-2000 K. A high pressure limit of k∞(T) = 5.76 × 10(-11)(T/298 K)(-0.34) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) was obtained, which agrees well with the best available theoretical expression.

Formation and dissociation kinetics of the FC(O)OOO(O)CF, FS(O2)OOO(O2)SF and FC(O)OOO(O2)SF trioxides: A theoretical study

A SACM/CT study of the FC(O)O+FC(O)OO→FC(O)OOO(O)CF, FS(O2)O+FS(O2)OO→FS(O2)OOO(O2)SF, FC(O)OO+FS(O2)O→FC(O)OOO(O2)SF and FC(O)O+FS(O2)OO→FC(O)OOO(O2)SF recombination reactions and their reverse dissociation processes was performed. The electronic energy along the reaction pathways was calculated at the G3S(MP2)//B3LYP/6-311+G(3df) level of theory. The respective high pressure rate coefficients obtained at 298K are 3.2×10−12, 4.3×10−13, 8.5×10−13, 1.1×10−12cm3molecule−1s−1. The first calculated value compares very well with the available experimental one. From the corresponding thermal dissociation rate coefficients, lifetimes of about 170 days, 4 days and 1min are predicted for FC(O)OOO(O)CF, FC(O)OOO(O2)SF and FS(O2)OOO(O2)SF.

Theoretical kinetic study of the unimolecular decomposition of 2-bromopropene

The kinetics of the gas phase thermal decomposition of 2-bromopropene at 600–1400K has been studied by using the unimolecular rate theory combined with different formulations of the density functional theory and high level ab initio composite methods. This hydrogen bromide elimination reaction presents two dissociation channels, one forming propyne and another forming allene. High-pressure limit rate coefficients of (6.2±1.2)×1014exp [−(64.5±2kcalmol−1)/RT] and (1.1±0.1)×1014exp [−(63.6±2kcalmol−1)/RT]s−1 were obtained for these reaction pathways. The present results allow to elucidate reported contradictory experimental data.
