Determination of platinum, palladium, and lead in biological samples by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

A flameless atomic absorption method for the coextraction of platinum and palladium from biological and environmental samples by high molecular weight amine (HMWA) is given. Also, methods for lead determination in biological samples by use of extraction flameless analysis and direct aspiration-flame analysis are reported. A study of lead contamination of Vacutainer tubes is given.

Liquid-liquid extraction of hafnium complex ion from aqueous oxalic acid solution with high molecular weight amine

Extraction of hafnium from aqueous oxalic acid solution with high molecular weight amine was studied. It was confirmed that the tetraoxalato complex ion of the hafnium is extracted from aqueous oxalic acid solution with tri- n-octylamine in xylene solution. A mechanism for the extraction of hafnium complex ion was discussed on the basis of the results obtained.

Extraction of cadmium as chloride by high molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium salt

Abstract The extraction of Hg(II) chlorocomplexes by various high molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium salt has been studied using tracer techniques. The dependence of extraction on the type of amine, anion concentration, nature of organic diluent, temperature, and amine concentration has been investigated. The possible mechanism of extraction has also been discussed in light of the results of extraction isotherms and log-log plots of amine concentration vs distribution ratio.

Extraction of zinc chloro complexes by high molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium salts

The extraction behaviour of zinc chlorocomplexes has been investigated in various commercially available liquid anion exchangers by tracer techniques. The topics studied include the extraction efficiency of various amines and ammonium salt, the dependence of extraction on anion concentration. nature of organic diluent, metal and amine concentration. An attempt has also been made to identify the extracting metal chloride-amine species by analysis of the organic extract and by log-log plots of amine concentration vs. distribution ratio

Solvent Extraction Behavior of Magnesium and Calcium in Versatic Acid-Amine Systems

Abstract Quantitative extraction of calcium and magnesium in high molecular weight carboxylic acid, versatic-9, and amine systems is reported. Butanol was used as diluent. The study includes the extraction behavior as a function of pH by controlled addition of amines, such as monoethanol amine, diethanol amine, and triethanol amine, the effect of diluent, solvent concentration, and different high molecular carboxylic acids such as versatic-10, versatic-911, and SRS-100. A comparison with the β-diketone-buffer-extraction system and versatic-9-buffer system has also been studied. The proposed method is very simple, and quantitative extraction has been achieved.

The reversed phase thin-layer chromatographic behavior of the rare earths, thorium, uranium and zirconuim with a high molecular weight amine in sulfuric acid and ammonium sulfate systems

Thin-layer plates of silica gel impregnated with a high molecular weight amine Amberlite LA-2, in the sulfate form, were used to investigate systematically the chromatographic behavior of the rare earths thorium, uranium(VI) and zirconium in sulfuric acid and acid ammonium sulfate media. The R F values for these metal ions decrease with increasing concentration of the acid sulfate, in teh acid system particularly. An interesting correlation is revealed between the R F values of the rare earths and the paramagnetic moment of the trivalent rare earths in the high concentration range of the acid and sulfate. An odd—even fluctuation of the R F values against atomic number is also found for the heavy lanthanides. Differences in the R F values of the rare earths in acid sulfate media indicate teh possibility of good separations of adjacent pairs or groups of the rare earths from each other by selecting an appropriate concentration of sulfate. The rare earths, thorium, uranium(VI) and zirconium can also be separated chromatographically with either 0.5 or 1.0 M sulfuric acid as developing solvent.

Determination of cadmium by atomic absorption spectrometry combined with solvent extraction with high molecular weight amines

Cadmium was extracted from 0.5N hydrobromic acid solution with 1 vol.% tri-n-octylamine or trioctylmethylammonium chloride in methyl-isobutyl ketone (MIBK), and quantitation of cadmium in the organic solvent layer was directly performed.In order to know the optimum experimental conditions, various factors such as the settings of the instrument, the conditions of the extraction, etc. have been studied.The optimum conditions were found as follows. Wavelength 2288A, hollow cathode lamp current 6.5 mA, slit width 0.2 mm, air pressure 1.4 kg/cm2, and acetylene pressure 0.3kg/cm2.The absorbance became about 2.5 times higher than that of the complex in aqueous solutions. The method was applied to the determination of trace amounts of cadmium in water, soil and rice and the results were found satisfactory in comparison with DDTC method.

Use of high molecular weight amines for end-point indication in the complexometric titration of Iron(III) with thiocyanate as indicator

A new type of end-point indication for the complexometric titration of iron(III) is proposed. A 10% carbon tetrachloride solution of Amberlite LA-1 is applied for the extraction of the thiocyanate complexes. Very sharp color change of the organic phase from red to pale yellow gives the accurate end point for titrations with 0.01M EDTA as in the Variamine Blue B method.

Extraction of platinum group metals by high molecular weight amines (H.M.W.A.): A study of Pt(IV)‐HCI system

AbstractThe distribution of Pt(IV), between aqueous hydrochloric acid solutions and various High Molecular Weight Amines in organic solvents has been studied and the effects of HCl concentration, the type of amine and various organic solvents investigated. Spectrophotometric studies were carried out on the aqueous Pt(IV) solution in hydrochloric acid solution and on the extracted species in the organic phase. Diffuse reflectance studies on the complexes were also carried out and evidence is presented to support the conclusion that the extracted species is the hexachloroplatinate(IV) ion.

Extraction of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids with high molecular weight amine

トリ-n-オクチルアミンによる脂肪族カルボン酸の抽出挙動および抽出機構などについて検討した.クロル置換酢酸類は無機酸と異なり,低濃度領域からアミンに当量以上抽出される.1分子のアミンによって抽出される最大の酸分子数は約3である.トリ-n-オクチルアミンと有機酸とのイオン対と過剰の酸の間で生成する高次の錯合体は有機酸の酸強度の大きいものほどあるいは水相の酸濃度が高いほど生成しやすい傾向にある.さらにアミンの希釈溶媒を変えると酢酸では溶媒の極性の増加とともに高次の錯合体が生成しやすくなるが,クロル置換酢酸ではn-ヘキサンを用いた場合最も多量体化しやすいようである.これに対して,イオン対の生成は特に弱い酸(酢酸)の場合,溶媒の極性の大きいほうが容易であることを認めた.なお,酢酸,プロピオン酸および酪酸などの抽出曲線はクロル置換酢酸のそれと異なり,その抽出量はn-ヘキサンを溶媒とした場合,アルキル基の炭素数の増加とともに著しく増し,これらの酸では有機溶媒への溶解的抽出が大である.さらに,有機相での分子間相互作用を明らかにするため,トリ-n-オクチルアミンとジクロル酢酸を例として赤外吸収スペクトルとNMRスペクトルを測定した.その結果,アミンと酸とのモル比が1以下ではトリ-n-オクチルアンモニウム陽イオンとジクロル酢酸陰イオンがイオン対を形成していることを認めた.さらに酸を増すと遊離の酸はイオン対と水素結合を行なって多量体化し,トリ-n-オクチルアンモニウム陽イオンとジクロル酢酸陰イオンとの結合は弱められる.この多量体の酸分子数は赤外吸収法およびNMR法のいずれにおいても3分子程度で,それ以上の相互作用はかなり弱いようである.以上のカルボン酸の抽出挙動は酸からアミンへのプロトン移動の平衡,生成したイオン対と過剰の酸との多量体化とそれらに対する溶媒の影響や水溶液相と有機相への酸の分配などを考慮してある程度の定性的説明が可能である.

Separation of scandium by anionic liquid-liquid extraction from sulfuric acid-ammonium sulfate medium using a high molecular weight amine.

高分子量アミン(Amberlite LA-2)の10%キシレン溶液による硫酸および硫酸アンモニウム溶液からのスカンジウム,トリウム,ウラン(VI),ジルコニウム,希土類元素およびイットリウムの抽出率を求め,各種金属イオンからのスカンジウムの抽出分離法について検討した.その結果,0.1M硫酸-0.01M硫酸アンモニウム溶液から,10%LA-2キシレン溶液によって,スカンジウムはトリウム,ウラン(VI)およびジルコニウムとともにほとんど完全に抽出され,アルミニウム,カドミウム,コバルト,銅,ガリウム,マグネシウム,マンガン(II),ニッケル,イットリウムおよび希土類元素から分離される.ただし,鉄(III),インジウムおよびバナジウム(IV)との分離は不完全であった.次に,10%LA-2キシレン溶液中より1M硫酸によって,スカンジウムはトリウムとともに逆抽出されるが,ジルコニウムおよびウラン(VI)は有機層に残る.その有機層より5M塩酸によってジルコニウムを,また,10%炭酸ナトリウム溶液によってウラン(VI)を,それぞれに逆抽出する.本法に関して,トリウムはスカンジウムと行動をともにするので分離できない.

Infrared absorption spectrophotometric analysis of water soluble acids by use of amine

An examination was made on the general problems in the solvent extraction-infrared analysis of water soluble acids with amines and the findings obtained are:(1) The amines used for the solvent extraction should not always be high molecular weight amine. It is extractable even with low molecular weight amine depending on the kinds of water soluble acids, and an excess of amines in organic layer is transfered to the water layer and therefore it will not interfere with the absorbance of the sample, accordingly it is considered to be convenient to the IR measurements.(2) To this method, the compensation method is applicable, and so it is found to be effectively applicable to the qualitative and quantitative analysis of small amount of impurities.(3) Without any influence on the ratio of water content in samples, it is found to be usuful for analysis in measuring their spectra.

Infrared spectrophotometric determination of sodium lauryl sulfate by the use of high molecular weight amine

Although sodium lauryl sulfate is little soluble in organic solvents for IR determination, high molecular weight amine is attempted to utilize for the solvent extraction method and employment has been found to be applicable as a new determination method by solution method. A quantitative extraction with 5% CS2 solution of Amberlite LA-2 is found to be capable, followed by the determination at 1194cm-1 as a key band. By this method, even if sodium chloride, sodium sulfate and Tween 40 are present in an equivalent amount to sodium lauryl sulfate, they will not interfere with the determination, and in the case of coexistence of sodium lauryl benzene sulfonate, both components are determined quantitatively at 1250cm-1 and 1164cm-1, key bands, respectively as a binary system.

Infrared spectrophotometric analysis of some water soluble mono- and di-thiophosphoric acid esters by the use of high molecular weight amine

An attempt was made to apply the solvent extraction methods by using high molecular weight amine to the IR analysis of water soluble mono-and di-thiophosphoric acid ester. Both O, O-dimethylthiophosphoric acid and O, O-dimethyldithiophosphoric acid are found to be effective for the qualitative analysis, being extractable with 5% of CS2 solution of Amberlite LA-2, and the latter O, O-dimethyldithio compound is found to be applicable also as a quantitative method. As to "Sumithion" and "Malathion", one of the effective organophosphoric insecticides, solvent extraction was carried out with the hydrolyzed water solution and the presence of O, O-dimethylthiophosphoric acid and O, O-dimethyldithiophosphoric acid have been identified.This method has been proved to be applicable to the investigations of hydrolytic mechanism and partial structures of thiophsphoric acid ester series of insecticides.

Extraction equilibrium of monovalent anions by a high molecular weight amine

トリ-n-オクチルアミンによる無機酸の抽出平衡にイオン交換樹脂の交換平衡に対するArgersingerらの理論を拡張適用して,硝酸イオンとハロゲンイオンとの抽出平衡定数や有機相内におけるこれらの酸のアンモニウム塩の活量係数などを求めた.その結果,水溶液相の陰イオン濃度に依存しない真の抽出平衡定数が得られ,有機相内におけるこれらのアミン塩の活量係数はほぼ1であった.また,抽出平衡定数に対するイオンの水和-脱水和過程に伴う自由エネルギー変化の寄与は有機相内における交換の静電自由エネルギー変化のそれよりも大で,ハロゲンイオンの種類については水和されやすいイオンほど抽出されにくいことを認めた.
