Pedestrian Arrangement On Wr Soepratman Street Bengkulu City as an Educational Area

Urban development is one of the forms of progress of a city, which shows that the economy of an area is running well, especially in the education area. The education area is an area that has a level of density at a certain time span and provides facilities for pedestrian space. A good educational area is to provide ease of movement for pedestrians. However, this is rarely found in the education area. Education areas are more dominated by the economy in the form of trade and services, so the need for pedestrian ways is often forgotten and considered unimportant. This can be seen on Jalan WR Soepratman (the gate of Bengkulu University (UNIB) up to Elementary School 69 Bengkulu City. Every day, Jalan WR Soepratman is high in motorized vehicle and pedestrian activity, both from students and from the community. The high level of activity in the area along WR Soepratman is due to the large number of Bengkulu University students and students from 69 Bengkulu City elementary schools. On the WR Soepratman road that connects Bengkulu University (UNIB) with Elementary School 69 Bengkulu City, there are no pedestrian facilities. On the shoulder of the road is used for selling activities for street vendors. Based on this, research is needed so that the end of this research can be a design solution in planning pedestrian paths on WR Soepratman Road. The research methods used are literature study, observation study, and descriptive analysis.

Modulation of brain energy metabolism in hepatic encephalopathy: impact of glucose metabolic dysfunction.

Cerebral function is linked to a high level of metabolic activity and relies on glucose as its primary energy source. Glucose aids in the maintenance of physiological brain activities; as a result, a disruption in metabolism has a significant impact on brain function, launching a chain of events that leads to neuronal death. This metabolic insufficiency has been observed in a variety of brain diseases and neuroexcitotoxicity disorders, including hepatic encephalopathy. It is a significant neurological complication that develops in people with liver disease, ranging from asymptomatic abnormalities to coma. Hyperammonemia is the main neurotoxic villain in the development of hepatic encephalopathy and induces a wide range of complications in the brain. The neurotoxic effects of ammonia on brain function are thought to be mediated by impaired glucose metabolism. Accordingly, in this review, we provide an understanding of deranged brain energy metabolism, emphasizing the role of glucose metabolic dysfunction in the pathogenesis of hepatic encephalopathy. We also highlighted the differential metabolic profiles of brain cells and the status of metabolic cooperation between them. The major metabolic pathways that have been explored are glycolysis, glycogen metabolism, lactate metabolism, the pentose phosphate pathway, and the Krebs cycle. Furthermore, the lack of efficacy in current hepatic encephalopathy treatment methods highlights the need to investigate potential therapeutic targets for hepatic encephalopathy, with regulating deficient bioenergetics being a viable alternative in this case. This review also demonstrates the importance of the development of glucose metabolism-focused disease diagnostics and treatments, which are now being pursued for many ailments.

Show and tell: scaffolding practices in lower secondary social science classrooms

ABSTRACT Inquiry and teaching with high levels of student activity are central to social science education, and research has shown the importance of scaffolding and other expressions of supportive structures in teaching (Christensen, 2021; Mathé, 2020). Nevertheless, there have been few studies documenting how actual teaching takes place and whether a teacher’s activities support the work of their students. This article, part of QUINT—Quality in Nordic Teaching, drew on video observations from 16 lower secondary social science classrooms in Denmark and Norway. We began by using the Protocol for Language Arts Teaching Observation (PLATO; Grossman, 2019) to identify the extent of teacher scaffolding practices. From this, we analysed the scaffolding to understand what kinds can be observed in social science education, with a specific focus on inquiry-based teaching. Although we identified scaffolding in a minority of lesson segments, what we did observe was related to a number of skills and strategies, both generic and specific to social science education. We concluded by identifying the strong potential in developing scaffolding practices related to social science inquiry further, before discussing implications and opportunities based on our findings.

68Ga Radiolabeling of NODASA-Functionalized Phage Display-Derived Peptides for Prospective Assessment as Tuberculosis-Specific PET Radiotracers.

This research presents the development of positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracers for detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) for the diagnosis and monitoring of tuberculosis. Two phage display-derived peptides with proven selective binding to MTB were identified for development into PET radiopharmaceuticals: H8 (linear peptide) and PH1 (cyclic peptide). We sought to functionalize H8/PH1 with NODASA, a bifunctional chelator that allows complexation of PET-compatible radiometals such as gallium-68. Herein, we report on the chelator functionalization, optimized radiosynthesis, and assessment of the radiopharmaceutical properties of [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-H8 and [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-PH1. Robust radiolabeling was achieved using the established routine method, indicating consistent production of a radiochemically pure product (RCP ≥ 99.6%). For respective [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-H8 and [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-PH1, relatively high levels of decay-corrected radiochemical yield (91.2% ± 2.3%, 86.7% ± 4.0%) and apparent molar activity (Am, 3.9 ± 0.8 and 34.0 ± 5.3 GBq/μmol) were reliably achieved within 42 min, suitable for imaging purposes. Notably, [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-PH1 remained stable in blood plasma for up to 2 h, while [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-H8 degraded within 30 min. For both 68Ga peptides, minimal whole-blood cell binding and plasma protein binding were observed, indicating a favorable pharmaceutical behavior. [68Ga]Ga-NODASA-PH1 is a promising candidate for further invitro/in vivo evaluation as a tuberculosis-specific infection imaging agent.

Effect of individual activity level heterogeneity on disease spreading in higher-order networks.

The active state of individuals has a significant impact on disease spread dynamics. In addition, pairwise interactions and higher-order interactions coexist in complex systems, and the pairwise networks proved insufficient for capturing the essence of complex systems. Here, we propose a higher-order network model to study the effect of individual activity level heterogeneity on disease-spreading dynamics. Activity level heterogeneity radically alters the dynamics of disease spread in higher-order networks. First, the evolution equations for infected individuals are derived using the mean field method. Second, numerical simulations of artificial networks reveal that higher-order interactions give rise to a discontinuous phase transition zone where the coexistence of health and disease occurs. Furthermore, the system becomes more unstable as individual activity levels rise, leading to a higher likelihood of disease outbreaks. Finally, we simulate the proposed model on two real higher-order networks, and the results are consistent with the artificial networks and validate the inferences from theoretical analysis. Our results explain the underlying reasons why groups with higher activity levels are more likely to initiate social changes. Simultaneously, the reduction in group activity, characterized by measures such as "isolation," emerges as a potent strategy for disease control.

OO Leo: An Active Contact Binary with Possible Solar-like Differential Rotation

With Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) high-precision photometry and Large Sky Area Multi-object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope medium-resolution spectra, we present the first light and radial velocity curve analyses for the eclipsing binary OO Leo. The simultaneous solution suggests that OO Leo is a W-subtype contact binary with a relatively low mass ratio (1/q = 0.173) and a moderate degree of contact (f = 28.1%). The asymmetry and continuous changes observed in the TESS light curve were properly modeled by one retrograde cool spot on its secondary surface. A detailed investigation of the Hα line also confirmed that the secondary star had a high level of magnetic activity. The retrograde longitudinal motion of the spot can be explained by a solar-like differential rotation in the secondary component. The orbital period investigation revealed that OO Leo is undergoing a secular decrease and a cyclic variation in its orbital period. The secular decrease may be mainly caused by mass transfer from the more massive secondary star to the less massive primary star. The cyclic period variation can be explained by the light–time effect of an invisible third body or the cyclic magnetic activity of the secondary star. The long-lived spot migration in the longitudinal direction makes OO Leo an excellent target for investigating the differential rotations of contact binaries.

Relationship Between Physical Activity and Depressive Symptoms Among Middle-Aged and Older Adults in Chengdu,Sichuan,China

Objective To investigate the current status of physical activity and depressive symptoms among middle-aged and older adults in Chengdu,Sichuan and explore the relationship between physical activity and depressive symptoms. Methods Multi-stage proportional stratified random sampling was employed to select middle-aged and older adults aged ≥45 years as the participants,and face-to-face interviews were carried out to collect data.Logistic regression was adopted to explore the relationship between physical activity and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults.The trend test was performed for the relationship between different levels of physical activity and depressive symptoms.The subgroup analysis and the test for multiplicative interactions were conducted for the relationship between physical activity and depressive symptoms. Results A total of 4376 middle-aged and older adults were included.Among them,14.58% (638/4376),25.98% (1137/4376),and 27.83% (1218/4376) had depressive symptoms,failed to reach the guideline-recommended standards of physical activity,and were at low levels of physical activity,respectively.There was a negative association between reaching guideline-recommended physical activity standard and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults (OR=0.713,95%CI=0.589-0.861,P<0.001).In addition,moderate levels (OR=0.714,95%CI=0.586-0.871,P=0.001) and high levels of physical activity (OR=0.705,95%CI=0.548-0.906,P=0.006) had negative associations with the presence of depressive symptoms.The trend test revealed that the negative association between physical activity and depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults enhanced as the level of physical activity increased (Pfor trend=0.001).The subgroup analysis and the test for multiplicative interactions revealed that neither reaching guideline-recommended physical activity standards or not nor the physical activity level had an interaction with each of the subgroups (all Pfor interaction>0.05). Conclusion The current status of depressive symptoms among middle-aged and older adults in Chengdu,Sichuan needs to be ameliorated.A negative association existed between reaching the guideline-recommended physical activity standard and presence of depressive symptoms,and the negative association enhanced as the physical activity level elevated.

Understanding the Activity Performance of Comets 38P/Stephan-Oterma, 64P/Swift-Gehrels and C/2017 M4 (ATLAS) through Broadband Photometric Observations

In this work, we report observations of three comets: 38P/Stephan-Oterma, 64P/Swift-Gehrels, and C/2017 M4 (ATLAS), conducted with the Nanshan one-meter wide-field telescope in 2018 August and November, and 2019 January. We extracted morphological features through image enhancement techniques and calculated the dust activity parameter, Afρ, along with dust mass loss rates and coma color indices using broadband photometric data. Our morphological analysis uncovered a spectrum of dust characteristics among the observed comets, ranging from a significant twisted structure in comet 38P/Stephan-Oterma’s coma to the regular coma envelope surrounding comet 64P/Swift-Gehrels. The Af ρ values varied between 148.8 ± 0.3 cm for 64P/Swift-Gehrels and 1118.5 ± 6.2 cm for C/2017 M4 (ATLAS) (measured within a reference aperture radius of ρ = 6″), indicating a range from moderate to high activity levels. Dust mass loss rates were estimated from 328.1 kg s−1 for comet 64P/Swift-Gehrels to 1395.5 kg s−1 for comet C/2017 M4 (ATLAS). The color indices of comets 38P/Stephan-Oterma and C/2017 M4 (ATLAS) closely resemble the average colors of active short-period comets and active long-period comets, respectively. In contrast, 64P/Swift-Gehrels exhibits a significantly bluer hue than typical Jupiter family comets.

Exploring the Potential of Oleanolic Acid Dimers-Cytostatic and Antioxidant Activities, Molecular Docking, and ADMETox Profile.

The presented work aimed to explore the potential of oleanolic acid dimers (OADs): their cytostatic and antioxidant activities, molecular docking, pharmacokinetics, and ADMETox profile. The cytostatic properties of oleanolic acid (1) and its 14 synthesised dimers (2a-2n) were evaluated against 10 tumour types and expressed as IC50 values. Molecular docking was performed with the CB-Dock2 server. Antioxidant properties were evaluated with the CUPRAC method. ADMETox properties were evaluated with the ADMETlab Manual (2.0) database. The results indicate that the obtained OADs can be effective cytostatic agents, for which the IC50 not exceeded 10.00 for many tested cancer cell lines. All OADs were much more active against all cell lines than the mother compound (1). All dimers can inhibit the interaction between the 1MP8 protein and cellular proteins with the best results for compounds 2f and 2g with unsaturated bonds within the linker. An additional advantage of the tested OADs was a high level of antioxidant activity, with Trolox equivalent for OADs 2c, 2d, 2g-2j, 2l, and 2m of approximately 0.04 mg/mL, and beneficial pharmacokinetics and ADMETox properties. The differences in the DPPH and CUPRAC assay results obtained for OADs may indicate that these compounds may be effective antioxidants against different radicals.

Stellar chromospheric activity database of solar-like stars based on the LAMOST Low-Resolution Spectroscopic Survey

Context. The dependence of stellar magnetic activity on stellar parameters is inspired by the chromospheric activity studies based on the large-scale spectroscopic surveys. Aims. The main objective of this project is to provide the chromospheric activity parameter database for the LAMOST Low-Resolution Spectroscopic Survey (LRS) spectra of solar-like stars and explore the overall property of stellar chromospheric activity. Methods. The Ca II H and K lines were employed to construct indicators for assessing and studying the chromospheric activity of solar-like stars. We investigated the widely used bolometric- and photospheric-calibrated chromospheric activity index R′HK, derived from the method in the classic literature (R′HK,classic) and the method based on the PHOENIX model (R′HK,PHOENIX). Since the detailed stellar atmospheric parameters, effective temperature (Teff), surface gravity (log g), and metallicity ([Fe/H]) are available for LAMOST, we estimated the chromospheric activity index R′HK,PHOENIX, along with the corresponding bolometric calibrated index RHK,PHOENIX, taking these parameters into account. Results. We provided the database of the derived chromospheric activity parameters for 1 122 495 LAMOST LRS spectra of solar-like stars. Our calculations show that log R′HK,PHOENIX is approximately linearly correlated with log R′HK,classic. The results based on our extensive archive support the view that the dynamo mechanism of solar-like stars is generally consistent with the Sun; and the value of the solar chromospheric activity index is located at the midpoint of the solar-like star sample. We further investigated the proportions of solar-like stars with different chromospheric activity levels (very active, active, inactive, and very inactive). The investigation indicates that the occurrence rate of high levels of chromospheric activity is lower among the stars with effective temperatures between 5600 and 5900 K.

Assessment of Physical Activity and Sleep Quality Among Doctors and Medical Students: A Cross-Sectional Study From South India.

Sleep quality is critical for medical professionals and students, who often face sleep disturbances due to demanding schedules. This study explores the association between physical activity and sleep quality among doctors and medical students in Tamil Nadu, India, addressing a notable gap in existing research. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Tamil Nadu, India, targeting doctors and medical students. Participants were recruited through an online Google Forms (Google LLC,Mountain View, California, United States) questionnaire distributed via social media platforms, which included the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) which provided measures of physical activity in MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Tasks) minutes/week and comprehensive sleep quality assessments, respectively, with a PSQI score above 5 indicating poor sleep quality. Data analysis was performed using jamovi version 2.2.2. In this study of 222 participants, predominantly young adults (80% were aged 18-40) and medical students (68.6%), we found a high prevalence of poor sleep quality (74.9%). Physical activity levels varied, with only 5.4% engaging in high levels of activity and no significant association between physical activity level and sleep quality (p=0.659). Additionally, while males showed significantly higher MET scores than females (p < 0.001), there was no significant correlation between MET scores and PSQI scores (p=0.205, r=-0.075). This study highlights a high prevalence of poor sleep quality and a low prevalence of high physical activity among medical professionals and students in South India. The study findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to enhance sleep quality and overall well-being in this demographic.

THE FORM OF GOVERNMENT OF A DEMOCRATIC STATE ON THE BACKGROUND OF CRISIS POLITICAL AND INSTITUTIONAL DESIGN

The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of the form of government as a structural basis for the exercise of power, formed within the framework of constitutional law, under the condition of representation of the main socio-economic groups of society. The purpose of the study is to establish the peculiarities of the form of state government as a factor in the formation of democratic institutional design. Features of the form of government as a factor of institutionalization of relations between authorized centers of power are characterized. It was emphasized that the modernization of the form of government in the political agenda may indicate a lack of deep consensus regarding the development of the political system. The significance of changes for institutional design within the evolution of the form of state government, which depends on the level of satisfaction of the requirements and needs of key political players, is analyzed. The significance of the political experience of Ukraine, which during the last decades has shown that political expediency is a more significant principle than considerations of preserving constitutional stability, is revealed. It was found that the existence of the current form of government in Ukraine is the result of the evolution of certain institutions, first of all, the institution of the presidency. In the context of the experience of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the assessment of the crisis phenomena of 2008 and 2010 becomes important, in particular the pressure of the demands of socio-economic balancing, which caused the “internal national reading” of the functioning of the form of government. It is revealed that the use of the existing potential of the form of government to ensure advantages in political competition led to the authoritarianization of the institution of the prime minister in modern Hungary. It has been proven that the international community’s fixation on the deterioration of the state of human rights protection has become a clear evidence of the influence of the form of government on inter-institutional interactions, in particular, in increasing the pressure of public authorities on civil society. It was established that the contradictions between high standards and the demands of the consumer society caused the support of right-wing conservative populist political forces. It was found that the situation in modern Slovakia shows that the parliamentary republic as a form of government also ensured the transition to democracy and the observance of democratic procedures. It was established that the trends of “non-normative” use of the power potential of the form of state government may indicate the search for a national model of balance between branches of government and key officials. It was concluded that a high level of self-regulation in the political system corresponds to a high level of civil political activity, responsibility and consensus of political elites, professionalism of the political class as a whole.

Effect of Physical Activity on the Association Between Diet and Constipation: Evidence From the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-2010.

Previous studies have shown that diet and physical activity can influence constipation. However, the combined effect of diet and physical activity on constipation remains unclear. Constipation was defined based on stool consistency and frequency, while overall diet quality was assessed using Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015 scores. Participants were categorized into low (metabolic equivalent [MET]-min/wk < 500) and high physical activity groups (MET-min/wk ≥ 500). The association between diet and constipation across physical activity groups was analyzed using survey logistic regression and restricted cubic splines. Higher HEI-2015 scores were associated with reduced constipation risk in the high physical activity group when constipation was defined by stool consistency (odds ratio [OR], 0.98; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.97-0.99). However, in the low physical activity group, increased HEI-2015 scores did not significantly affect constipation risk (OR, 1.01; 95% CI, 0.97-1.05). Similar results were found when constipation was defined based on stool frequency. In the high physical activity group, increased HEI-2015 scores were significantly associated with a reduced constipation risk (OR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.94-0.98). Conversely, in the low physical activity group, increased HEI-2015 scores did not affect the risk of constipation (OR, 0.96; 95% CI, 0.90-1.03). Our findings suggest that a higher HEI-2015 score is negatively associated with constipation among individuals with high physical activity levels but not among those with low physical activity levels. This association was consistent when different definitions of constipation were used. These results highlight the importance of combining healthy diet with regular physical activity to alleviate constipation.

The influence of air pollution on asthma in athletes – a brief review of the literature

Introduction and purpose Air pollution, stemming from natural occurrences and human activities, significantly threatens global health, particularly impacting respiratory conditions like asthma. Air pollution substantially influences asthma exacerbation in athletes, a group particularly vulnerable due to their high physical activity levels and increased respiratory demands. Key pollutants, including particulate matter (PM), ground-level ozone (O3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), play critical roles in asthma development and exacerbation. The State of Knowledge Asthma, a chronic inflammatory disease influenced by genetic predisposition and environmental factors like air pollution, is characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness, obstruction, and chronic inflammation, leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. Research highlights the link between air pollution exposure and asthma development, with PM2.5 exposure associated with increased asthma risk and pollutants exacerbating symptoms, especially in children. Athletes inhaling air pollutants during exercise face increased airway inflammation, mucus production, and bronchospasm, worsening asthma symptoms like wheezing and shortness of breath. Chronic exposure decreases lung function, increasing reliance on medication and limiting outdoor training on polluted days. Summary Effective asthma management amidst air pollution requires personal, community, and governmental measures. Patients should minimize exposure by wearing N95 masks and choosing low-traffic routes. Governments must monitor pollution, inform the public, and control emissions through alternative fuels and technologies. Adhering to WHO air quality guidelines could prevent many new asthma cases, emphasizing comprehensive air quality management's importance, especially among vulnerable populations like children.

CuO vs. AgO: A comparative study of cathode catalysts for boosting oxygen reduction in microbial desalination cells

Microbial Desalination Cell (MDC) is an innovative approach for water desalination that concurrently produces energy through the process of substrate oxidation. The primary issue of the technique is its limited power on capabilities during the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). While the depletion of oxygen is a significant process in electrochemical energy conversion, its slow kinetics hinder its utilization in MDCs. One potential resolution to this problem is the utilization of a cathode catalyst with a high level of activity, which effectively enhances the rate of ORR. Different concentrations of copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (NPs) were used to investigate the behavior of ORR and its impact on the performance of the MDC. The optimal concentration of silver oxide (AgO) NPs was utilized to conduct a comparative analysis of both types of NPs. The size of CuO NPs and AgO NPs was found to be 65 nm and 55 nm respectively by material characterization studies. The power density achieved in the absence of the catalyst was 1.1 W/m3, and this value increased to 4.9 W/m3 with the incorporation of 3 mg/cm2 AgO. The use of a catalyst loading of 3 mg/cm2 has been determined to be efficacious in enhancing the desalination rate in MDC. The electrochemical investigations conducted also showed an improvement in the electrocatalytic behavior of cathodic kinetics while operating under these specific afterward. Therefore, the utilization of AgO catalyst exhibits potential as a viable option for the expansion of MDC processes, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable development objectives.

Sacral neuromodulation in pediatric refractory bladder and bowel dysfunction Insights from Canada's first pediatric cohort.

Refractory bladder and bowel dysfunction (BBD) significantly affects the health and quality of life of children and their caregivers, emphasizing the need for effective and minimally invasive treatments. This study aims to present the inaugural Canadian experience using sacral neuromodulation (SNM ) as a therapeutic option for children with refractory BBD. Patients <18 years old with refractory BBD were prospectively followed from 2018 to the present. Preoperative evaluation included spinal MRI and video urodynamics. Two-stage SNM implantation was executed with a minimum two-week stage 1 trial. Functional outcomes and complication rates were measured following validated questionnaires. Six patients completed staged implantation at a median age of 10.8 years (range 8.2-18). The median baseline Dysfunctional Voiding Scoring System (DVSS) score was 12.5 (10-22). At six months of followup, only one patient required adjunct bladder medication. Median DVSS at one-year followup was 5.5 (0-7). Symptomatic resolution was noted in three patients at six months, sustained over one year. Early surgical complications were reported in one (infection) and late complications in three (lead fracture, battery depletion, non-traumatic malfunction), requiring reimplantation at a median of 37.5 (1-49) months. Post-SNM reimplantation, oral medication and rectal therapy decreased, and DVSS scores improved by 30% (0-63.6) at six months. SNM is feasible and offers promising results for refractory pediatric BBD in Canada. The significant improvement of symptoms highlights the treatment's potential, which must be balanced against the high need for revision detected at three years, possibly related to patients' growth and high activity level.

Physical Activity, Fitness, and Long-Term Risk of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Observational studies have demonstrated an increased amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) risk among professional athletes in various sports. For moderately increased levels of physical activity and fitness, the results are diverging. Through a cohort study, we aimed to assess the relationship between indicators of physical activity and fitness (self-reported physical activity and resting heart rate) and long-term ALS risk. From a large Norwegian cardiovascular health survey (1985-1999), we collected information on self-reported physical activity in leisure time, resting heart rate, and other cardiovascular risk factors. Patients with ALS were identified through health registries covering the whole population. We fitted Cox proportional hazard models to assess the risk of ALS according to levels of self-reported physical activity in 3 categories (1: sedentary; 2: minimum 4 hours per week of walking or cycling; 3: minimum 4 hours per week of recreational sports or hard training), and resting heart rate modeled both on the continuous scale and as quartiles of distribution. Out of 373,696 study participants (mean 40.9 [SD 1.1] years at inclusion), 504 (41.2% women) developed ALS during a mean follow-up time of 27.2 (SD 5.0) years. Compared with participants with the lowest level of physical activity, the hazard ratio was 0.71 (95% CI 0.53-0.95) for those with the highest level. There were no clear associations between resting heart rate and ALS in the total sample. In men, the hazard ratio of ALS was 0.71 (95% CI 0.53-0.95) for those reporting moderate levels of physical activity and 0.59 (95% CI 0.42-0.84) for those reporting high levels, compared with those reporting low levels. Men with resting heart rate in the lowest quartile had 32% reduced risk of ALS (hazard ratio 0.68, 95% CI 0.49-0.94) compared with those in the second highest quartile. In women, no association was detected between neither self-reported levels of physical activity nor resting heart rate and ALS risk. Indicators of high levels of physical activity and fitness are associated with a reduced risk of ALS more than 30 years later in men, but not in women.

Does adherence to physiotherapy depend on the typologies of patients with back pain and their physiotherapists? A qualitative typology study

BackgroundPatient adherence to physiotherapy is influenced by a multitude of factors including the characteristics and attitudes of patients and physiotherapists. This study aims to identify typologies of patients with back pain and their physiotherapists and attempts to explain how typologies could influence patient adherence. MethodThis study was based on a secondary data analysis from focus group interviews to identify barriers and facilitators for adherence. Transcribed interview data were used for a structured content analysis based on deductive and inductive categorization and coding. The Big-five Personality Traits were applied to build deductive categories about the physiotherapists’ and the patients' typologies. ResultsTen patients with low back pain (6 women) and 11 physiotherapists (5 women) were recruited. The four patient types are based on conscientiousness, high activity level (HAL), internal locus of control (ILC), high adherence level (HADL) (= type 1); neuroticism, HAL, ILC, low adherence level (LADL) (= type 2); extraversion, HADL, external locus of control (ELC), HADL (= type 3); agreeableness, active behavior, ELC, HADL (= type 4). The three physiotherapist types are based on conscientiousness, high adherence influence (HADI), use of guidelines (= type 1); agreeableness, acceptance of requests, low adherence influence (= type 2); neuroticism, HADI, preference for active therapy (= type 3). ConclusionAwareness of typologies of patients with back pain and their physiotherapists may help to facilitate adherence and subsequently treatment effectiveness. Further quantitative research should aim to validate the correlation between the identified typologies and the adherence level of patients with back pain.

Teaching social support to promote inclusive physical activity for people with autism

Purpose Previous research found that when exercise partners provided social support to each other, both participants engaged in higher levels of activity (Gellert et al., 2011). These results suggest that there may be benefits to providing inclusive physical activity (PA) programming to individuals with autism; however, little research has explored specific strategies. The purpose of this study is to explore the use of a behavioral intervention consisting of visual social stories and additional intervention components (i.e. prompting, checklists) to teach adolescents/young adults with autism and their workout partners without disabilities to provide social support to one another during partnered PA. Design/methodology/approach A multiple probe across dyads was used to explore the effects of the intervention on social support (i.e. verbal encouragement and feedback). Findings The results indicate the treatment was effective during the intervention phase. When partners and settings changed during generalization, results were maintained in all but one participant. Originality/value Areas for future research and implications for practice to support inclusive PA for autistics are discussed.

Interface engineering assisted La1-xSrxCoO3/FeOOH heterostructure as a high-performance electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction

Perovskite oxides play a crucial role as catalysts in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to their distinctive structure and diverse physical and chemical characteristics. Currently, enhancing the electronic structure and specific surface area of the perovskite surface through strategic regulation poses a significant challenge in the advancement of perovskite catalyst development. Here, we propose a novel method for enhancing the OER activity of LaCoO3 (LCO) perovskite through atomic doping and interface engineering. The La0.6Sr0.4CoO3–FeOOH (Fe-LSCO) composite exhibits a notable enhancement in electrocatalytic performance, manifesting a low overpotential of 296.3 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at a current density of 10 mA cm−2, while maintaining a high level of activity for a duration of 120 h. The enhanced activity of Fe-LSCO can be attributed to oxygen vacancy defects and the increase of the active site caused by A-site-doping and amorphous nanosheets of FeOOH, which synergistic effect reduces the energy barrier for water dissociation. The highly disordered surface and high surface energy of amorphous FeOOH render it highly active. This study presents a viable interface engineering approach for manipulating the reconstruction of the active phase in high-performance perovskite-based electrocatalytic materials.
