Highly specific aptamer trap for extremophilic RNA polymerases

During transcription initiation, the holoenzyme of bacterial RNA polymerase (RNAP) specifically recognizes promoters using a dedicated σ factor. During transcription elongation, the core enzyme of RNAP interacts with nucleic acids mainly nonspecifically, by stably locking the DNA template and RNA transcript inside the main cleft. Here, we present a synthetic DNA aptamer that is specifically recognized by both core and holoenzyme RNAPs from extremophilic bacteria of the Deinococcus-Thermus lineage. The aptamer binds RNAP with subnanomolar affinities, forming extremely stable complexes even at high ionic strength conditions, blocks RNAP interactions with the DNA template and inhibits RNAP activity during transcription elongation. We propose that the aptamer binds at a conserved site within the downstream DNA-binding cleft of RNAP and traps it in an inactive conformation. The aptamer can potentially be used for structural studies to reveal RNAP conformational states, affinity binding of RNAP and associated factors, and screening of transcriptional inhibitors.

Leaching behaviour of 226Ra from uranium tailings and adsorption behaviour in geotechnical medias

The leaching process of uranium tailings is a typical water-rock interaction. The release of 226Ra from uranium tailings depends on the nuclides outside the intrinsic properties of uranium tailings on the one hand, and is influenced by the water medium on the other. In this paper, a uranium tailings repository in southern China was used as a research object, and uranium tailings at different depths were collected by drilling samples and mixed to analyse the 226Ra occurrence states. Static dissolution leaching experiments of 226Ra under different pH conditions, solid-liquid ratio conditions, and ionic strength conditions were carried out, and the adsorption and desorption behaviours of 226Ra in five representative stratigraphic media were investigated. The results show that 226Ra has a strong adsorption capacity in representative strata, with adsorption distribution coefficient Kd values ranging from 1.07E+02 to 1.29E+03 (mL/g) and desorption distribution coefficients ranging from 4.97E+02 to 2.71E+03 (mL/g), but the adsorption is reversible. The 226Ra in uranium tailings exists mainly in the residual and water-soluble states, and the release of 226Ra from uranium tailings under different conditions is mainly from the water-soluble and exchangeable state fractions. Low pH conditions, low solid-liquid ratio conditions and high ionic strength conditions are favourable to the release of 226Ra from uranium tailings, so the release of 226Ra from uranium tailings can be reduced by means of adjusting the pH in the tailings and setting up a water barrier. The results of this research have important guiding significance for the management of existing uranium tailings ponds and the control of 226Ra migration in groundwater, which is conducive to guaranteeing the long-term safety, stability and sustainability of uranium mining sites.

Rapid hydrolysis of NO2 at High Ionic Strengths of Deliquesced Aerosol Particles.

Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) hydrolysis in deliquesced aerosol particles forms nitrous acid and nitrate and thus impacts air quality, climate, and the nitrogen cycle. Traditionally, it is considered to proceed far too slowly in the atmosphere. However, the significance of this process is highly uncertain because kinetic studies have only been made in dilute aqueous solutions but not under high ionic strength conditions of the aerosol particles. Here, we use laboratory experiments, air quality models, and field measurements to examine the effect of the ionic strength on the reaction kinetics of NO2 hydrolysis. We find that high ionic strengths (I) enhance the reaction rate constants (kI) by more than an order of magnitude compared to that at infinite dilution (kI=0), yielding log10(kI/kI=0) = 0.04I or rate enhancement factor = 100.04I. A state-of-the-art air quality model shows that the enhanced NO2 hydrolysis reduces the negative bias in the simulated concentrations of nitrous acid by 28% on average when compared to field observations over the North China Plain. Rapid NO2 hydrolysis also enhances the levels of nitrous acid in other polluted regions such as North India and further promotes atmospheric oxidation capacity. This study highlights the need to evaluate various reaction kinetics of atmospheric aerosols with high ionic strengths.

Characterization of Nanoparticles in Mixtures by Taylor Dispersion Analysis Hyphenated to Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry.

A novel methodology for investigating the behavior of nanoparticles in their mixtures in aqueous high-ionic strength conditions is presented in this work. Our approach utilizes Taylor dispersion analysis in capillaries connected to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to probe metal-derived nanoparticles. This methodology simultaneously distinguishes between different kinds of nanoparticles and accurately determines their essential parameters, such as hydrodynamic size, diffusion coefficient, and elemental composition. Moreover, the isotope-specific ICP-MS detection allows for unique targeting of the fate of isotopically enriched nanoparticles. The complexity of our methodology opens the way for studying barely explored areas of interparticle interactions or unequivocal characterization of one type of nanoparticle in complex mixtures without any need for calibration as well as labor-consuming sample preparation.

Visualization of phenanthrene effect on biochar colloids transport in porous media

Biochar colloids (BCs) can be used as adsorbent materials for remediation of phenanthrene due to their high specific surface area and other characteristics. Understanding the effects of phenanthrene on the transport of BCs contributes to facilitate the removal of phenanthrene in soil and water habitats. In this work, the influence of phenanthrene on the transport of BCs under different environmental factors (pH, ionic strength (IS), media size) in a one-dimensional sand column was firstly explored together with a real-time visualization system to explore the transport mechanism of BCs in two-dimensional sand tank. The results show that phenanthrene adsorbed on the surface of BCs, shielded its surface charge and reduced the mobility of BCs in porous media. Acidic conditions promoted the agglomeration of BCs and adsorption of phenanthrene, resulting in a 51.03 % decrease in the maximum breakthrough rate of BCs compared to alkaline conditions. The same was true for the high IS condition, where the maximum breakthrough rate of BCs was only 0.95 % at IS = 50. Additionally, there was a substantial and positive correlation between media particle size and BCs mobility. As the quartz sand particle size increased, the maximum breakthrough rates of BCs were 2.67 %, 33.28 %, and 52.27 % in the 1-D experiment, and 0, 13.88 %, and 13.10 % in the 2-D experiment, respectively. The contact area of BCs with the medium expands under the fine particle size condition, leading to a significant decrease in the mobility of BCs at low potentials influenced by phenanthrene. This finding is significant for biochar application in phenanthrene contaminated soil and groundwater remediation.

Nanogel-type nano-objects from a random polyelectrolyte through intermolecular cross-linking

Polyelectrolyte nanogel-like nano-objects were synthesized from poly((2-dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate-co-oligoethylene glycol methacrylate), P(DMAEMA-co-OEGMA), random copolymers through covalent cross-linking with the hydrophobic 1,12-dibromododecane difunctional quaternizing agent, with varying degrees of cross-linking, corresponding to different dimethylamino group molar conversions to quaternized, permanently cationic amino groups. Physicochemical characterization, employing dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering (DLS, ELS), along with fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) measurements under various solution conditions elucidated distinct self-assembled structures of the formed polymer networks, most probably due to the utilization of the hydrophilic random copolymers as precursor macromolecules. The nanogels demonstrated pH responsiveness and temperature sensitivity, advantageous for applications requiring controlled release or environmental adaptability, while the stability under high ionic strength conditions indicated their resilience in complex physiological environments and varying salinities. Furthermore, Nanogel 2, displaying a balanced response to environmental factors, was successfully complexed with protein ovalbumin (OVA). The produced OVA/Nanogel 2 complexes maintained their size under high salt concentrations and sustained colloidal stability over time, even under ultrasound exposure. Further characterization through Cryo-TEM and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy highlighted the efficient complexation of OVA, revealing varying co-assembled structures, including irregular nano-objects consisting of thread-like structures and sphere-like morphologies comprised of branched-like internal structures, dependent on the protein concentration. We expect that such hybrid nanostructures may be promising for enzyme immobilization and as vaccine-delivering vehicles with special morphologies.

Removal of Pb(II), Cu(II), and Ag(I) from aqueous solutions using biochar derived by P-enriched water hyacinth

ABSTRACT A new synthesis was developed to prepare engineered biochar derived from phosphorous-rich water hyacinth. The statistical analysis indicated a significant correlation between P content and the removal rates of Pb (II), Cu (II), and Ag (I), revealing the pivotal role of enrich P in the biochar for heavy metals (HM) removal. SEM-EDX, XRD and FTIR analyses validated the presence of P functional groups on the surface of P-biochar. Batch experiments showed that the strong acidic initial solution negatively affected the adsorption of HM ions, and a similar negative impact was observed during Cu (II) adsorption under the high ionic strength conditions. Competitive adsorption experiment confirmed P-biochar’s resilience against competing metal ions during the adsorption of HM ions. Pb (II) and Ag (I) adsorption were primarily governed by precipitation/reduction, along with complexation reactions involving P functional groups. Cu (II) adsorption was dominated by complexation between Cu (II) and P functional groups.

Determination of the interior pH of lipid nanoparticles using a pH-sensitive fluorescent dye-based DNA probe

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) containing ionizable cationic lipids are proven delivery systems for therapeutic nucleic acids, such as small interfering RNA (siRNA). It is important to understand the relationship between the interior pH of LNPs and the pH of the external environment to understand LNP formulation and function. Here, we developed a simple and rapid approach for determining the pH of the LNP core using a pH-sensitive fluorescent dye-based DNA probe. LNP siRNA systems containing pH-responsive DNA probes (LNP-siRNA&DNA) were generated by rapid mixing of lipids in ethanol and pH 4 aqueous buffer containing siRNA and DNA probes. We demonstrated that DNA probes were readily encapsulated in LNP systems and were sequestered into an environment at a high concentration as evidenced by an inter-probe FRET signal. It was shown that the pH of LNP encapsulated probes closely follows the pH increase or decrease of the external environment. This indicates that the clinically approved LNP RNA systems with similar lipid compositions (e.g., Onpattro and Comirnaty) are highly permeable to protons and that the pH of the interior environment closely mirrors the external environment. The pH-dependent response of the probe in LNPs was also confirmed under buffer conditions at various pHs. Furthermore, we showed that the pH-sensitive DNA probe can be incorporated into LNP systems at levels that allow the pH response to be monitored at a single LNP level using convex lens-induced confinement (CLiC) confocal microscopy. Direct visualization of the internal pH of single particles with the fluorescent DNA probe was achieved by CLiC for LNP-siRNA&DNA systems formulated under both high and normal ionic strength conditions.

Actin Paracrystals Display Double Schottky Diode‐Like Electrical Behavior

AbstractActin filaments are abundant intracellular polymers implicated in cell motility and contraction. Actin also forms paracrystalline structures under various conditions, including exposure to lanthanides and other high ionic strength conditions. Here the electrical properties of purified actin paracrystals induced by either MgCl2 or GdCl3 are tested. Tight electrically seal‐voltage‐clamped crystals display strong rectification with a nonlinear conductance under symmetrical and biionic conditions, including 20 mm GdCl3/140 mm KCl and 10 mm MgCl2/140 mm KCl. Rectification is observed in symmetrical ionic conditions with positive‐to‐negative conductance ratios ranging from 4.18 to 9.00 nS. The current‐to‐voltage relationships can be fitted with theoretical double Schottky equations and resemble the behavior of semiconducting nanotubes. The highly nonlinear electrical properties of paracrystalline actin arrays may help explain the physiology of actin‐rich cellular compartments, such as stereocilia of the cochlea and neuronal dendritic spines also suggest potentially relevant nano‐technological properties of this protein.

Functional Carbon Capsules Supporting Ruthenium Nanoclusters for Efficient Electrocatalytic 99 TcO4 - /ReO4 - Removal from Acidic and Alkaline Nuclear Wastes.

The selective removal of the β-emitting pertechnetate ion (99 TcO4 - ) from nuclear waste streams is technically challenging. Herein, a practical approach is proposed for the selective removal of 99 TcO4 - (or its surrogate ReO4 - ) under extreme conditions of high acidity, alkalinity, ionic strength, and radiation field. Hollow porous N-doped carbon capsules loaded with ruthenium clusters (Ru@HNCC) are first prepared, then modified with a cationic polymeric network (R) containing imidazolium-N+ units (Ru@HNCC-R) for selective 99 TcO4 - and ReO4 - binding. The Ru@HNCC-R capsules offer high binding affinities for 99 TcO4 - /ReO4 - under wide-ranging conditions. An electrochemical redox process then transformsadsorbed ReO4 - to bulk ReO3 , delivering record-high removal capacities, fast kinetics, and excellent long-term durability for removing ReO4 - (as a proxy for 99 TcO4 - ) in a 3m HNO3 , simulated nuclear waste-Hanford melter recycle streamand an alkaline high-level waste stream (HLW) at the U.S. Savannah River Site (SRS). In situ Raman and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) analyses showed that adsorbed Re(VII) is electrocatalytically reduced on Ru sites to a Re(IV)O2 intermediate, which can then be re-oxidized to insoluble Re(VI)O3 for facile collection. This approach overcomes many of the challenges associated with the selective separation and removal of 99 TcO4 - /ReO4 - under extreme conditions, offering new vistas for nuclear waste management and environmental remediation.

Evaluating the efficacy of endolysins and membrane permeabilizers against Vibrio parahaemolyticus in marine conditions

Endolysins have garnered significant attention as a potential alternative to antibiotics in aquaculture, mainly for combating Vibrio spp., Gram-negative pathogens responsible for infectious outbreaks. However, endolysin effectiveness against Gram-negative bacteria is limited due to the outer membrane's poor permeability. The combat against marine pathogens poses an additional challenge of finding endolysins that retain their activity in high ionic strength conditions. Thus, this study aimed to demonstrate that certain endolysins retain muralytic activity in seawater and also evaluated outer membrane permeabilizers as endolysin adjuvants. The effectiveness of KZ144 and LysPA26 endolysins, along with EDTA and oregano essential oil, was evaluated against Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC-17802 in natural seawater. Results revealed the muralytic activity of both endolysins in seawater. However, the endolysins appeared to counteract the permeabilizers' effect during the initial bactericidal assays. Further investigations revealed that the observed effect was not antagonistic. After the permeabilizer action, V. parahaemolyticus likely used endolysins as a growth substrate. Endolysins may not play an indifferent role if they fail to exert a bactericidal effect. Instead, they can serve as a substrate for fast-growing bacteria, such as V. parahaemolyticus, increasing bacterial density. It should be considered a potential drawback of endolysins' proteinaceous nature as bactericidal agents.

High ionic strength dissociation assay reduces dimeric target interference in immunogenicity testing.

Aim: The presence of di-/multi-meric forms of soluble target in biological samples can interfere in anti-drug antibody (ADA) assays, leading to increased background values and potentially false positivity. The authors investigated the use of the high ionic strength dissociation assay (HISDA) to reduce target interference in two different ADA assays. Results: Interference caused by homodimeric FAP was successfully eliminated to enable cut point determination after applying HISDA. Biochemical experiments confirmed the dissociation of homodimeric FAPafter treatment with high ionic strength conditions. Conclusion: HISDA is a promising approach to simultaneously achieve high drug tolerance and reduced interference by noncovalently bound dimeric target molecules in ADA assays without extensive optimization, which is particularly advantageous in routine use.

Peculiarities of oligomerization of smooth muscle titin and skeletal myosin-binding protein C

Protein oligomers are important intermediates in the formation of amyloid fibrils. In amyloidoses, for instance, in Alzheimer's disease, oligomers are able to exert toxic effects on cells. This paper describes the distinctive features of oligomerization of multidomain muscle proteins such as smooth muscle titin and myosin-binding protein C (MyBP-C) of skeletal muscles, which consist of FnIII-like and IgC2-like domains and form amorphous amyloid aggregates in vitro. MyBP-C at low ionic strength (below physiological values) formed stable oligomers that did not participate in further aggregation. In high ionic strength conditions (µ ~ 0.6), smooth muscle titin formed oligomers, which were precursors of amyloid amorphous aggregates of this protein. The results obtained help expand existing knowledge about the process of protein aggregation.

Co-transport of polystyrene microplastics and kaolinite colloids in goethite-coated quartz sand: Joint effects of heteropolymerization and surface charge modification

This study investigated the transport behavior of polystyrene microplastics (MPs) in saturated quartz sand and goethite-coated sand in the presence of coexisting kaolinite colloids. Column experiments were conducted under a wide range of solution chemistry conditions, including pH levels of 6.0, 7.0, and 9.0, as well as background Na+ concentrations of 5 mM and 25 mM. We found that: (1) The individual transport of MPs in porous media diminished both with increasing background ion strength and decreasing pH, and its transport ability was significantly dominated by the interactions between MPs and porous media rather than the interplay between MPs, which has been further corroborated by the aggregation stability experiments of MPs particles. (2) MPs had a much lower ability to move through goethite-coated sand columns than quartz sand columns. This is because goethite coating reduces the repulsion energy barriers between porous media and MPs. The increased specific surface area and surface complexity of sand columns after goethite coating should also account for this difference. (3) MPs transport would be subjected to the differentiated impact of co-transported kaolinite colloids in the two types of porous media. The promotion effect of kaolinite colloid on MPs' transport capacity is not significantly affected by background ionic strength changes when quartz sand is served as the porous medium; however, the promotion effect is highly correlated with the background ionic strength when goethite-coated sand is served as the porous medium. In comparison with low background ionic strength conditions, kaolinite colloids under high background ionic strength conditions significantly facilitated MPs transport. This is mainly because under high background ionic conditions, kaolinite colloids are more likely to be deposited on the surface of goethite-covered sand, competing with MPs for the limited deposition sites. The extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (XDLVO) theory is applicable to describe the transport behavior of MPs.

Ionic Strength Enhances the Multiphase Oxidation Rate of Sulfur Dioxide by Ozone in Aqueous Aerosols: Implications for Sulfate Production in the Marine Atmosphere.

Multiphase oxidation of sulfur dioxide (SO2) by ozone (O3) in alkaline sea salt aerosols is an important source of sulfate aerosols in the marine atmosphere. However, a recently reported low pH of fresh supermicron sea spray aerosols (mainly sea salt) would argue against the importance of this mechanism. Here, we investigated the impact of ionic strength on the kinetics of multiphase oxidation of SO2 by O3 in proxies of aqueous acidified sea salt aerosols with buffered pH of ∼4.0 via well-controlled flow tube experiments. We find that the sulfate formation rate for the O3 oxidation pathway proceeds 7.9 to 233 times faster under high ionic strength conditions of 2-14 mol kg-1 compared to the dilute bulk solutions. The ionic strength effect is likely to sustain the importance of multiphase oxidation of SO2 by O3 in sea salt aerosols in the marine atmosphere. Our results indicate that atmospheric models should consider the ionic strength effects on the multiphase oxidation of SO2 by O3 in sea salt aerosols to improve the predictions of the sulfate formation rate and the sulfate aerosol budget in the marine atmosphere.

Effect of Salts on the Conformational Dynamics of the Cytochrome P450 OleP.

Cytochrome P450 OleP catalytic activity is strongly influenced by its structural dynamic conformational behavior. Here, we combine equilibrium-binding experiments with all-atom molecular dynamics simulations to clarify how different environments affect OleP conformational equilibrium between the open and the closed-catalytic competent-forms. Our data clearly show that at high-ionic strength conditions, the closed form is favored, and, very interestingly, different mechanisms, depending on the chemistry of the cations, can be used to rationalize such an effect.

Nanofluidic diodes based on asymmetric bio-inspired surface coatings in straight glass nanochannels.

In this study, we present nanofluidic diodes fabricated from straight glass nanochannels and functionalized using bio-inspired polydopamine (PDA) and poly-L-lysine (PLL) coatings. The resulting PDA coatings are shown to be asymmetric due to a combination of transport considerations which can be leveraged to provide a measure of control over the effective channel geometry. By subsequently introducing a layer of amine-bearing PLL chains covalently bound to the PDA, we enhance heterogeneities in the charge and ion distributions within the channel and enable significant current rectification between forward-bias and reverse-bias modes; our PDA-PLL-coated channels yielded a rectification ratio greater than 1000 in a 100 nm channel filled with 0.01× phosphate-buffered saline solution (PBS). We further demonstrated that at higher ionic strength conditions, reducing the solution pH increased the number of protonated amines within the PLL layer, amplifying the charge disparities along the channel and leading to greater rectification. As nanofluidic diodes with bipolar surface charge distributions tend to provide superior performance compared to those with a single wall charge polarity, we imposed a more bipolar charge distribution in our devices by partially coating our PDA-PLL-coated channels with negatively charged polyacrylic acid (PAA). These enhanced bipolar channels exhibited greater current rectification than the PDA-PLL-coated channels, reaching rectification ratios in excess of 100 even in more physiologically-relevant 1× PBS solutions. Our fabrication approach and the results herein provide a promising platform from which the scientific community can build upon in the relentless endeavor for improved sensitivity in biosensors and other analytical devices.

Swelling Behavior and Flow Rates of a Novel Hydrophilic Gasket Used in Composite Geomembrane Vertical Cutoff Walls and Infrastructures Exposed to Contaminated Groundwater

The swelling capacity of novel hydrophilic gaskets used in geomembrane cutoff walls and infrastructures is critical for decreasing the flow rates of contaminated groundwater. This study investigated the swelling behavior, relaxation characteristics, flow rates, and micro-morphology of a hydrophilic gasket with different testing liquids. The radial swelling tests were performed using a device modified from single-lever consolidation instrument. A flow rates model apparatus was manufactured and employed to measure the flow rates of the poor-sealing hydrophilic gasket. According to the test results, the swelling ratio of the hydrophilic gaskets soaked in the DIW were the highest, followed by the NaCl solution, the MSW landfill leachate, and the CaCl2 solution. Relaxation phenomena appeared in all the specimens regardless of the testing liquids. The flow rates of the specimens penetrated with DIW, NaCl, and CaCl2 decreased to a stable state, and then increased extremely slowly to stable values. Moreover, self-healing of the hydrophilic gasket was observed. The micro-morphology indicated that sodium polyacrylate (PAAS) with insufficient expansion could separate from the matrix under high multivalent ionic strength or loading pressure conditions. Therefore, it is critical to develop the modified hydrophilic gasket with resistance to contaminated groundwater for a better barrier performance for use in contaminated sites and infrastructures.

Ruthenium Complexes of Rigid, Dianionic, Tetradentate N‐Donor Ligands and their Potential as Catalysts for Water Oxidation

AbstractTwo mononuclear ruthenium(II) complexes based on dianionic {N4} ligands and with axial pyridines have been prepared and characterized crystallographically (1) or by 2D NMR spectroscopy using residual dipolar couplings (2). The {N4} ligands provide a constrained equatorial coordination with one large N−Ru−N angle, and additional non‐coordinating N atoms in case of 2. Their redox properties have been investigated (spectro)electrochemically, and their potential to serve as water oxidation catalysts has been probed using cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN) at pH 1.0. Complex 1 undergoes rapid degradation, likely via ligand oxidation, whereas 2 is more rugged and exhibits 80 % efficiency in the CeIV‐driven water oxidation, with a high initial turnover frequency (TOFi) of 3.07×10−2 s−1 (at 100 equiv. CAN). The initial rate of O2 evolution exhibits 1st order dependence on catalyst concentration, suggesting a water nucleophilic attack mechanism. Repeated addition of CAN and control experiments show that high ionic strength conditions (both NO3− and CeIII) significantly decrease the TOF.

Acrylamide: New Organic Solvent with Chemically Tunable Viscosity for Rapid Gram-Scale Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles.

Noble metal nanoparticles have demonstrated various biomedical, optical, and electronic applications owing to their unique chemical and physical properties. However, their gram-scale synthesis remains a challenge. We have developed a method for the gram-scale synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using acrylamide (AAm) as a solvent. AAm possesses unique properties such as low melting temperature, high solvating power, and high solubility of its polymer (polyacrylamide(pAAm)) in water. The viscosity of the AAm solvent can be chemically tuned by the polymerization of AAm and addition of a low-volatile diluent, which can stabilize highly concentrated as-synthesized AuNPs in gram quantities. The synthesized AuNPs are substantially stable and catalytically active under high ionic strength conditions owing to the pAAm protection on the particle surface. Further, the synthesis mechanism of the AuNPs has been thoroughly investigated. The versatility of the synthesis method is proved by synthesizing other mono-(Ag and Pd) and bimetallic (Au + Pd and Ag + Pd) nanoparticles using the AAm solvent with controlled viscosity. Importantly, the productivity of this synthetic strategy is the highest among the previously reported gram-scale synthesis methods of AuNPs. To the best of our knowledge, our study presents the use of acrylic monomer as a solvent for the gram-scale synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles for the first time. This study significantly extends the list of solvents with chemically tunable viscosity by including other acrylic reagents for nanomaterial synthesis, functionalization, and catalytic, optical, and electrical reactions under highly localized reaction conditions.
