High-frequency diffraction of electromagnetic waves by a circular aperture in an infinite plane conducting screen

The scattering of plane electromagnetic wave of wave number k by a circular aperture of radius a in an infinitely conducting plane screen of zero thickness and infinite extent is considered. In the limit of large ka and at normal incidence, the ratio of the transmission cross section to the geometrical optical value \pi a^{2} , is found up to the order (ka)^{-5^{j}2} .

High-frequency diffraction of plane waves by an infinite slit for grazing incidence

The scattering of plane electromagnetic waves of wave number <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">k</tex> by an infinite slit of width <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2a</tex> formed by two perfectly conducting coplanar screens of zero thickness is considered. In the limit of large <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">ka</tex> and at grazing incidence, the asymptotic series for the transmission cross section per unit length of the slit is evaluated up to the order <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">(ka)^{-11 i 2}</tex> .
