The high-density beam in the NBI negative ion source relies on surface production on the converter with low work function, which is facilitated by cesium injection. Maintaining the appropriate cesium conditions during the source operation sequence is essential for achieving optimal cesium coverage on the converter. To better understand cesium cycle in the source and to enhance beam production performance during operation sequences, analysis of cesium dynamics and optimization of cesium operation have been carried out. The analysis model is established based on the Monte-Carlo method with cesium sources, cesium transport and surface process during the operation sequence considered. Cesium distribution and converter surface coverage can be obtained from the model using input parameters from the HUST negative ion source. For the operation in the HUST negative ion source, the influence of temperature settings and time sequence is discussed, with suggested parameters for cesium injection proposed to achieve appropriate cesium coverage on converter surface through operation sequences.
