The Serat Piwulang Kasampurnaning Ngagesang manuscript is one of the Javanese manuscripts that contains the teachings of life. This manuscript is important to study because it contains teachings to achieve perfection in life according to Javanese thinking. The problem in this study is that the Javanese people's thoughts about the perfection of life contained in this manuscript have not been revealed. The purpose of the research is to explore the thoughts of the Javanese people from the source of the text of Serat Piwulang Kasampurnaning Ngagesang which then the results of the description can be known to the general public and can be used as a guideline for the younger generation. This study uses an objective approach, with heuristic and hermeneutic reading models. Heuristic reading is carried out by reading the entire text sourced from the NB 807 manuscript of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. Hermeneutic reading is carried out by paying attention to textual, historical and philosophical meanings. The results of the study show that there is a view of the importance of names for human life and the seven things that are desired in life. Javanese people view the name as something important because it is an honor for everyone. Perfection of life for Javanese people is the fulfillment of seven desired things consisting of health and safety, food, shelter, clothing, honor or power, security and peace of mind, sincerity and sustainability. And the key to getting these seven things is to be grateful, patient, praying, and trying. All of it comes from the heart of each one. The heart can have taste, but the taste does not have the heart.

Kematian dalam Puisi “Jauh” Karya Joko Pinurbo: Kajian Semotika Riffaterre

The aim of this research is to analyze the meaning of the poem "Jauh" in the poetry collection "Pants" by Joko Pinurbo in 1996 using a semiotic approach developed by Riffaterre. This approach was chosen because it can explore the meaning of the diction used by the poet. To describe the data, a qualitative descriptive method was applied. The data source was taken from the poem "Jauh" by Joko Pinurbo, while the supporting data was taken from various literature related to Riffaterre's semiotic theory and Indonesian poetry. The analysis process begins with heuristic reading to understand the denotative meaning, followed by hermeneutic reading to find the second (connotative) meaning. In conclusion, the poem "Far" describes someone who is thinking about his death. The symbols used in this poem refer to the concepts of death and rebirth, as well as the relationship between individuals and the world around them. This research will add to the treasures of developing literary studies which focus on poetry analysis using a semiotic approach

Nurses' values when caring for persons suffering from substance use disorder: A hermeneutical study.

Persons suffering from a substance use disorder (SUD) in need of help from low-threshold centres have complex and severe conditions together with uncontrolled use of mainly illicit substances. Their sufferings are all-encompassing and demand ethically aware nurses with competence to take care of somatic, existential and spiritual needs. To explore and describe a new understanding of the ethical and ontological values upon which nurses base their work when caring for persons suffering from SUD. The study had a hermeneutical approach. A focus-group interview was conducted with five nurses working at a low-threshold centre in Norway. Data analysis was carried out through a hermeneutical reading based on Gadamer's hermeneutics. The study was approved by the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (SIKT). Oral and written consent was obtained from the participants. The hermeneutical reading revealed three dimensions; A wish to be useful; Nurses' motive for caring for persons suffering from SUD is a wish to be useful and needed. Nurses are fighting a battle against injustice and stigmatisation. Neighbourly love, the core value; Neighbourly love serves as the basis for the nurses` work. Nurses feel humble towards their clients, they feel privileged to have the opportunity to help others through compassionate care. The value of being clients` advocate; Nurses are trying to ensure that clients receive the help they need. A large part of nurses` job is to monitor and take care of the clients` condition. This involves working close to death, trying to save lives. Nurses wish to care in accordance with their ethos of usefulness. Sacrifice stands out as the ultimate form of neighbourly love, empowering nurses with moral authority to act as advocates for their clients.

Social Change and Demythologization: (A Reading of Kuntowijoyo's Novels)

This study attempts to read Kuntowijoyo's thoughts in five of his novels, namely Kereta Api yang Berangkat Pagi Hari (KAyBPH, 1966), Pasar (1972), Khotbah di Atas Bukit (KdAB, 1976), Mantra Pejinak Ular (MPU, 2000), and Wasripin dan Satinah (WS, 2003). Through heuristic and hermeneutic readings and analysis using a socio-historical approach, the following results were obtained. First, the five novels contain a common thread of relatively similar issues, namely social change. The first novel emphasizes social change in the village community in the post-war Sala region. It illustrates that the village community is still in the value system of "guyub rukun", although it has been infiltrated by the values of individualism. The second novel emphasizes social change with the setting of a market in Java. It depicts a society that is entering an era of madness (manners are violated, capital owners act exploitatively, government officials work at will); only those who are eling (remembering) and vigilant and understand the role of taste will survive life. The third novel emphasizes the social changes caused by development that is too physical, neglecting spiritual development, so that people lose their grip on life. The fourth novel emphasizes the social changes in the sub-district around Sala under the New Order regime. There is resistance from community members to the party's power, but it is subtle. Furthermore, in the last novel, social changes in the fishing community on the North Coast of Java under the New Order regime are also emphasized. The heavy pressure of socio-economic life gave birth to the myth of Ratu Adil. The treatment of the authoritarian regime was met with strong resistance: the community attacked and killed the security forces who engineered injustice. Secondly, socio-historically, the five novels show the development of problems in Indonesian society. Thirdly, all five novels show the details of the physical location of villages in Java, as well as the socio-cultural values of the people. Fourth, the novels show the author's response to the social life of Indonesian society from the beginning of independence to under the New Order regime.

Struktur Naratif Kakawin Nirartha Prakreta : Kajian Bahasa, Sastra, Dan Budaya

Bali is one of the regions in Indonesia helping maintain the richness of the archipelago in the form of literary works, one of which is Old Javanese literary works which are still well preserved today. Old Javanese literary works are special and relatively old literary ones because most of the literary works are from the IX and XV centuries (Zoetmulder, 1985: 18-25). The method used is the library study method and manuscript reading, namely using the listening method. The listening method is a method used to obtain data by listening to language use. The term listening here is not only related to the use of language orally, but also in writing (Mashun, 2005:90). Heuristic and hermeneutic reading is also used and assisted by note-taking and translation techniques. Based on the corpus of Kakawin Nirartha Prakrĕta, it can be concluded that the storyline contains a life picture of good and bad behavior in life which in Hinduism is called Subha Asubha Karma. This proves the narrative unit about dharma teachings (dharmasastra) which dominates the story content of Kakawin Nirartha Prakrĕta. It can be concluded that before interpreting a kakawin text we must first know its structureThe narrative structure that builds Kakawin Nirartha Prakrĕtha includes Manggala "opening section", corpus "content section", epilogue "concluding section". The three parts of the Kakawin Nirartha Prakrĕtha narrative structure certainly have a very close and interrelated relationship.

Toward a Positive hiv Theology: A Queer Hermeneutic Reading of the Book of Job

This article aims to trace the history of hiv/aids in Central America, with particular attention to El Salvador. Its first section presents a periodization that details the evolution of the response and understanding of the region in the social context. The second section focuses on a detailed periodization of how faith communities reacted to the presence of hiv/aids, especially highlighting their responses to the affected people. The third section of the article provides a biblical, theological, and pastoral perspective from the early days to the current response of faith communities to hiv/aids.

Kontra Narasi Terorisme Dalam Syair Arab: Kajian Syair Karya Muhammad bin Rasyid Ali Maktum

<p><strong>Until now, terrorism is still a big problem in society. That is why it is very necessary to carry out movements to counter acts of terrorism. One way to overcome this is by carrying out a counter-narrative of terrorism, namely by compiling a narrative that is deliberately created and framed with the aim of countering or minimizing the influence of negative narratives that have an intolerant and extreme tone. Sheikh Muhammad bin Rasyid Ali Maktum is a high-ranking official in the UAE who took part in carrying out a counter-narrative of terrorism in poetry. This study focuses on examining the counter-narrative in his poetry entitled <em>Fitnah al-Irhab</em> using a descriptive qualitative method that uses heuristic and hermeneutic reading of the poetry. This study resulted in the finding that the poem entitled <em>Fitnah al-Irhab</em> has fulfilled four steps or four points as a form of counter-narrative of terorism. Namely, first: reframing the conflict, second: counter analogy, third: counter strategic goals, and fourth: use rhetorical language style.</strong></p><p><strong><em>Keywords</em></strong> - <em>Terrorism, Counter Narrative, Arabic Poem, Muhammad bin Rasyid Ali Maktum</em>.<em></em></p>

Prophetic Literary Ethics in the Book of Poetry When Grass Meets God by Ahmadun Yosi Herfanda

Ahmadun Yosi Herfanda is a widely recognized Sufistic-religious poet, known for his poetry book When Grass Meets God. The book is divided into two parts: The First Kiss for God and the influential Prayer of Grass. This compilation showcases the significance of prophetic literary ethics in Herfanda's creations. This study aims to uncover the prophetic literary ethics within When Grass Meets God, employing a semiotic approach guided by Paul Recoeur's hermeneutics. The research primarily relies on the poems within the book as data sources. To identify instances of prophetic literary ethics, the study analyzes words, phrases, and sentences that exemplify these principles. The analytical method employed is hermeneutic reading. The book reveals three distinct forms of prophetic literary ethics. Firstly, the poems embody an epistemology of transcendental structuralism, presenting the ethical principles of prophetic literature. Secondly, poems serve as a means of worship, embodying the ethical principles of prophetic literature. Lastly, they establish inter-conscious relationships, further reflecting these ethical principles.

<div class="container"><p><em>In recent years, the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence has significantly impacted various aspects of life, including the realm of creative writing in literature. One prominent application of AI is ChatGPT, which can synthesize poetry. However, questions have arisen regarding the extent of their ability to understand and replicate symbolic and sign meanings in literary works, particularly in poetry. This research aims to explore the intervention of artificial intelligence in the poetry creation process and identify limitations related to the use of symbolic and sign functions. Utilizing the perspective of Roland Barthes' Semiotics, this study delves into the symbolic meanings in poetry. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with hermeneutic reading and content analysis of poetry, comparing it with human-authored poetry. The research data consists of poetry created by the artificial intelligence ChatGPT and human-authored poetry. The results indicate limitations in the ability of artificial intelligence to use symbols and signs in poetry, resulting in interpretations that are limited and tend to follow conventional patterns. Artificial intelligence often relies on common symbols and signs, frequently associated with existing cultural myths. Therefore, the role of humans in the creative process remains crucial in literary writing to ensure the diversity of symbols and signs, fostering the development of more innovative and profound interpretations in poetry.</em></p></div>

ANALISIS SEMIOTIKA PESAN DAKWAH DALAM PUISI “SAJADAH PANJANG” KARYA TAUFIQ ISMAIL

The literary works of Taufiq Ismail, an Indonesian cleric and writer, embed Islamic values within his creations, including the poem "Sajadah Panjang." This poem, characterized by its beautiful yet accessible language, possesses a magical allure that captivates readers and listeners alike, inviting them to experience reverence in connecting life with the divine. Adapted into lyrics and sung by Bimbo and Noah, the poem further enhances its solemnity and popularity among the public. This research aims to uncover the message of Islamic propagation contained within Taufiq Ismail's poem "Sajadah Panjang." Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and the semiotic analysis method of Michael Rifatterre's model, the researcher examines discontinuities in expression, heuristic and hermeneutic readings, matrix searches, models, variants, and determines the hypogram text as the genesis of the poem's creation. The research findings reveal the propagation message encompassing two main issues: the outward and inward aspects of worship, and belief in Allah SWT. This poem serves as a reminder of life's meaning, bridging existence with the greatness of the Divine and our obligations to Him

The Existence of Classical Malay Literature in the Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0

This study aims to investigate the structure of Syair Gulung that are still being created, the materials, themes, the publics’ acceptance and the effectiveness of syair gulung. The Syair Gulung were studied from three books, namely Syair Bunga Jambu, Syair Gulung Ketapang and Kumpulan Naskah Lomba Syair Gulung. The heuristic and hermeneutic reading methods were used in this study. The findings indicate that the structure of Syair Gulung was relatively similar to the hundred-years-old general verse pattern: the opening and closing stanzas were formulaic, consisting of four words, rhyming a-a-a-a. Some of the materials that were processed into poetry came from folklore and some from daily social activities. The themes of Syair Gulung were related to love, greed, preservation of Malay culture, love for Islam and the Prophet of Muhammad as well as effort to create and maintain the harmonization of the nation and state. At the same time, given the fact that until present, Syair Gulung are still being created and sung on various occasions, even being contested among students and the general public. It can interpreted that Syair Gulung are still effective in carrying out the function as a medium for conveying certain messages.

Semiotika Riffaterre dalam Puisi “Baju Baru” Karya Joko Pinurbo

It is undeniable that poets often convey ideas with signs in the form of words, clauses, even sentences, thereby creating implicit or implicit messages. Studying a poem requires structural and semiotic analysis, because poetry is a structure of meaningful signs. Joko Pinurbo's poems contain many messages from deep anxiety. This study seeks to explain the meaning of related poetry according to Riffaterre's Semiotics theory. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The material object in this research is a poem by Joko Pinurbo "Baju Baru". Meanwhile, the formal object is meaning based on language and literary conventions with Riffaterre's Semiotics theory which consists of heuristic readings, hermeneutic readings, as well as matrices, models and variants, hypograms. The results of the research through heuristic reading analysis found that fathers bought new clothes after payday because fathers' salaries increased. From the hermeneutic reading as a whole, the poem was created by the author as a form of outpouring of his heart as well as a form of criticism of the government for the phenomenon he is seeing, the increase in basic prices that afflict the lower class society, the matrix of the poem is a situation where basic needs soar, while workers' wages only increased slightly or even did not increase. The model of the poem is "gaji bapak" and "presiden". The variants consist of five variants. The first variant is "bapak gajian", the second variant is "reaksi si aku", the third variant is "perasaan presiden", the fourth variant is "kerusakan baju", the fifth variant is "keberadaan tukang becak dan presiden".

TIME, MYTH AND NARRATIVE IN BEAT FURRER'S NUUN

AbstractThe title of Beat Furrer's nuun, for two pianos and chamber orchestra (1996), invites two principal readings. As a pun on the German ‘nun’, meaning ‘now’, it invokes a presentist mode of musical thinking, whereby each moment is heard to exist in a continuous state of development. It also invokes myth, as suggested by Wolfgang Fuhrmann, in its palindromic reflection of the name of the Breton goddess Nu, who, in medieval mysticism, ‘had the power to let time stand still’. In this article, I use Byron Almén's 2017 theory of musical narrative as the basis for a narrative analysis of nuun, aiming to reconcile these allusions with the aesthetics and formal processes of the piece, as well as Furrer's documented preoccupation with notions of storytelling in music. In doing so, I expand upon the hermeneutic readings of the piece proposed thus far, establish connections with textural archetypes in Furrer's oeuvre, both pioneered by and preceding nuun, and consider lines of dialogue with broader discourse on time in contemporary music.

Rereading Nietzsche with Philosophical Hermeneutics

In this article I examine Nietzsche’s commentaries on the discipline of classical philology in relation to twentieth century philosophical hermeneutics. I argue that Nietzsche frequently made use of the concept of “life” to reflect ‘meta-critically’ on philology and nineteenth century hermeneutics, and that this use is much better represented by Heidegger and Gadamer than representatives of the standard Lebensphilosophie reading. Whereas the standard life-philosophical reading suggests that Nietzsche viewed the activity of interpretation as a mere symptom of biological, psychological life, the hermeneutic reading suggests that Nietzsche uses the concept of “life” to refer to the effective reality of interpretation, i.e., the “hermeneutic situation.” By this reading, Nietzsche’s interest in “life” is in fact an interest in deciphering the meaning content behind our own interpretations, and thus implies a commitment to interpretive pluralism—an interpretive pluralism which Nietzsche recognized as being essentially ontological in character.

HUMAN EXISTENCE IN THE POEM "MUKHODH LIL WILADAH FI AL AKHDHARAR"

Poetry is a type of literature that's more than just words on a page; it carries deep significance. One way to understand the meaning of poetry is by applying Riffaterre's semiotic theory as an analytical tool. Michael Riffaterre’s theory of semiotic poetry analysis highlights the need to focus on a poem’s language structure and elements. This approach helps to comprehend the overall meaning of the poem in three steps. The aim of this study is to understand the heuristic and hermeneutic reading process as well as identify instances of discontinuous expression in the poem "Mukhodh Lil Wiladah Fi Al Akhdharar.". This study is qualitative descriptive research that uses Michael Riffaterre's theory as a conceptual framework for analyzing poetry as a source of data. The method of analysis employed in this study is the technique developed by Mills and Humberman. The heuristic and hermeneutic analyses reveal that the poem "Mukhodh lil wiladah fi al akhdhahrar" by Ahmad Binmaimun broadly addresses matters related to life and humanitarian concerns. In the heuristic reading, the poem largely reflects the author's fascination with the concept of birth. Generally, the hermeneutic interpretation of Ahmad bin Maimun's poem "Mukhadh lil wiladah fi al akhdhahrar" conveys life's meaning and is rich with metaphorical language about human existence. The writer aims to communicate to the reader a profound desire to experience rebirth. Fueled by dreams and unwavering resolve, the writer expresses readiness to rise once more, striving to enhance all conditions for the better. The discontinuity of expression indicates that there are 13 instances of word meaning substitution, including 3 similes, 3 metaphors, 2 instances of personification, 1 allegory, 1 synecdoche, 2 metonymies, and 1 epic parable. As for the deviation of meaning, it includes 1 ambiguity, 1 contradiction, and 1 nonsensical expression. In terms of meaning creation, there is 1 instance of enjambement.

Analysis of Heuristic and Hermeneutic Reading in Burdah Book: A Study of Michael Rifaterre's Semiotic Approach

This study aimed to analyze the application of Michael Rifaterre's semiotic approach in discussing heuristic and hermeneutic reading methods in the book of Burdah. This research used a qualitative approach with a focus on text analysis. The method used involves Michael Rifaterre's semiotic approach as the main framework. Data was collected through literature studies related to Burdah and semiotic approaches, as well as analysis of Burdah texts using heuristic and hermeneutic lenses. The results showed that the heuristic approach helps reveal symbolic and metaphorical elements, while the hermeneutic approach deepens the understanding of the historical and cultural context surrounding Burdah. Thus, a combinative reading of both approaches forms a more holistic understanding. The study concluded that Michael Rifaterre's semiotic approach can be an effective framework for analyzing heuristic and hermeneutic readings in classical Islamic texts such as Burdah. The combination of the two approaches enriches the understanding of literary work, revealing deeper layers of meaning.

Gender-based violence in Tereza Batista cansada da guerra

This paper concerns about gender-based violence in relation to the literary work Tereza Batista cansada de Guerra (1972) by Jorge Amado and it aims at seeking answers to the following questions: How is gender-based violence represented in the novel? Which female characters suffer such violence? How do they react to it? As for the theoretical background, the thoughts of Saffioti (1999), Moore (2000), Bandeira (2014), Spivak (2010), Gomes (2014), XXXXX (2020), Grijalva (2020), Xavier (2021) among others were relevant for the construction of this hermeneutical reading from the literary text, specially to notice the gender-based violence as a structural and systemic issue that subjugates women. The findings lead to the fact that gender-based violence is diversify due to the type as well as to the victimized female characters. Those prior ones may be categorized in three distinct groups: those who promote gender-based violence against other female characters; the ones who are resigned to the gender-based violence they suffer and naturalize their reality; and the ones who struggle against gender-based violence.

The novel The Last Shoe tells the story of the life of a father named Pak Marwan. The character Pak Marwan in the novel The Last Shoe is the main character of the story. Mr, Marwan is a shoe craftsman whose name is known as the “father of shoes”. Pak Marwan opened a shoe business and made the name of his village known to many people. This type of research is qualitative research which aims to understand social phenomena, including the phenomenon being studied. The descriptive method of analysis is to describe the facts followed by content analysis. The data in this research is in the form of discourse related to the object of research is the novel The Last Shoe by Toni Tegar Sahidi. The primary data source in this research is the next of the novel The Last Shoe. Data collection techniques use heuristic and hermeneutic reading methods. The results of this research are to find out the characterizations contained in the novel The Last Shoes by Toni Tegar Sahidi, namely responsible, hardworking, business style, and teaching employees to be independent.
