A study on awareness and attitude of youth towards the use of herbal cosmetic products in Rajkot district

There is a significance growth in allocation of funds in budget 2022-23 by government of India to Ministry of Ayush as compare to last 10years. At the same time data researched and revealed by ministry and CII shows that CAGR is increasing rapidly of herbal products. Rajkot district is populated and multi cultured city. Youth in particularly will be the contributor to this herbal cosmetic industry in future. Therefore this research mainly focused on awareness and attitude towards herbal cosmetic product amongst youth between 15-29 years of age. Study also focuses their difference of opinions based on gender and age wise.Total Revenue in the Herbal Cosmetics segment amounts to US$0.84bn in 2022. The market is expected to grow annually by 3.41% (CAGR 2022-2026). This shows the potential for growth but at the same time it is important to see awareness and attitude of youth in Rajkot district so that government and companies can design their strategies accordingly.In this research, after studying a lot of literature, data released by government official and research output of CII, researcher has decided to use descriptive research methodology. Sampling technique used is Convenience (non-random sampling) sampling with sample size of 237 out of total population of Rajkot district within decided sample frame.This study reveals that awareness amongst youth related to herbal cosmetic product is very high but at the same time only 9.3% respondents using herbal cosmetics products frequently in their day to day life. If respondents are given a chance they majority of respondents are willing to use herbal cosmetic products. This shows a huge potential to grow in this segment in near future.

An Online Survey on Usability, Acceptability, Attitude and Knowledge of Herbal and Synthetic Cosmetic Among Sikkimese Population

In recent years, the global cosmetics industry has witnessed a notable shift in consumer preferences towards natural and organic products, leading to an increased demand for herbal cosmetics derived from plant-based ingredients. This research survey presents a comparative analysis of herbal and synthetic cosmetics, exploring distinctions in formulation, efficacy, safety, and environmental impact. Herbal cosmetics incorporate natural elements like plant extracts, essential oils, herbs, and fruits, while synthetic counterparts are developed using chemical compounds in laboratories to replicate specific properties. The main objective is to find out the preferences between herbal and synthetic cosmetics among individuals in Sikkim. The methodology adopted for mini survey was pre-prepared questionnaires were developed by using Google forms and shared through the online platforms such as Mail, Whatapps and facebook. An online survey conducted in different districts of Sikkim revealed that 42% of respondents favoured herbal cosmetics, while 31% preferred synthetic products and 23% had no specific preference. Factors influencing those leaning toward synthetic cosmetics included perceived effectiveness, availability, and affordability. Despite the clear interest and preference for herbal cosmetics, the survey also highlighted limited choice and availability in comparison to synthetic alternatives. This suggests a substantial opportunity for growth in the herbal cosmetic industry, emphasizing the need for increased accessibility to meet the growing demand in Sikkim and beyond. Exploring the mechanism of Glycyrrhiza glabra and Curcuma domestica against skin photoaging based on network pharmacology

Excessive exposure to UV radiation results in skin photoaging, which may be prevented or treated using natural plant compounds. Herbal cosmetics and medicines have grown in popularity due to the abundance of relatively safe compounds. This research aims to explore the network pharmacology of Glycyrrhiza glabra (GG) and Curcuma domestica (CD) against skin photoaging. Active compounds from GG‐CD were sourced from databases including TCSMP, KnapSack, TCMID, and published literature, while disease targets were collected from GeneCards and OMIM databases. The STRING database was utilized to construct the protein‐protein interaction (PPI) network. Enrichment analyses for Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway were performed using Metascape. The herb‐compounds‐target‐pathway‐disease (H‐C‐T‐P‐D) network was visualized using Cytoscape software. A total of 529 compounds, 2,335 active compound targets, and 120 skin aging targets were obtained. GO enrichment revealed 1,635 biological processes, 67 cellular components, and 121 molecular functions. The study suggests that GG and CD have the potential to treat skin photoaging by targeting multiple targets, such as TP53, TNF, AKT1, IL6, and IL‐1B, as well as multiple pathways, such as those in cancer, apoptosis, TNF, IL‐17, and the AGE‐RAGE signaling pathway. Experiment validation is necessary to confirm the preliminary network pharmacology results.

The current study set out to create a herbal cream with antifungal, antibacterial, anti-acne properties, as well as moisturizing, nourishing, lightening, and treating a range of skin conditions. Various unrefined medications were consumed, including Curcuma longa (turmeric rhizomes), Nirgundi (Vitex negundo Linn), Azadirachta Indica (neem leaves). The cream is prepared by slab Technique. Final samples underwent accelerated stability testing in an environmental chamber with a temperature of 25 ± 100C and a humidity of 60 ± 10% RH. It was discovered that every product was stable, showing no evidence of phase separation or color change. Additionally, a patch test was performed for sensitivity testing, and there was no indication of any allergic reactions or skin irritation. This work primarily it focuses on evaluating the microbiological quality of prepared cosmetics. To everyone's amazement, both formulations passed the microbiological limit tests according to international standards. It has been established that the formulation of herbal cosmetics is safe for use and can be applied as a barrier to protect skin.

The current research works focuses extraction of neem leaves (Azadirachta indica), turmeric (Curcuma longa), aloe vera, glycerin, lemon juice, rose water and xanthan gum they have anti-acne, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant properties, with the help of this herbal ingredient developed and evaluates as a herbal anti-acne face wash. The face wash showed a multipurpose effect and all these herbal ingredients showed significant different activities. The ingredient uses in herbal face wash having properties softening of skin, remove acne as well as promote healing. The prepared formulation was evaluated based on number of criteria including consistency, pH test, spread ability, stability test, cleansing test, foam ability and grittiness.

Training on Making Sunscreen Cream from Tapak Dara Leaf Extract in Banjarsari Bojonegoro Village

Background: The use of natural ingredients, especially family medicinal plants (TOGA), for treatment has not received much attention from the public. The tapak dara plant has benefits, including being antihyperglycemic, antidiabetic, and antibacterial, an agent for reducing oxidative stress, and a sunscreen effect that can protect the skin from ultraviolet rays. This service activity aims to provide a new understanding to the public about the benefits of the TOGA plant, especially periwinkle so that they can preserve and process it as sunscreen cream. Method: This training uses a technique of presenting material through training videos and explanatory slides. This training activity was conducted in Banjarsari Village using video material and PowerPoint slides. This training in making sunscreen cream involved 50 PKK cadres and was carried out for two months. Results: During the two-way discussion, participants' enthusiasm was seen in the questions asked regarding the technicalities of making the cream and the benefits of the tapak dara plant, showing the public's great interest in using herbal cosmetics from the TOGA plant. Conclusion: Training on making sunscreen cream from tapak dara leaf extract in Banjarsari Village is an effort to inform the community about the process of making cream from the TOGA plant with the result of community enthusiasm for holding similar activities.

In order to nourish and moisturize the skin, the current study set out to formulate and evaluate herbal cold creams that contained plant extracts, liquid paraffin as a lubricating agent, bees Cetyl alcohol, stearic acid and distilled water paraben as a antibacterial agent by using the water in oil method. The cold cream is prepared by using the neem oil and almond oil. After preparation of cream, cream was evaluated for different parameters like appearance, PH, viscosity, stability test, dye test, spread ability & Test for microbial growth. From evaluation study it was concluded that it is a very good attempt to formulate the herbal face pack containing naturally available ingredients like Gudhal, Gauva and Tea plant. Preparation of herbal hair oil exploring the therapeutic benefits of herbs and its evaluation

Background: Herbal cosmetics, particularly herbal hair oils, have gained popularity due to their perceived efficacy and minimal adverse effects. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate herbal hair oils for promoting hair growth. Methodology: Various herbal extracts, including Coconut, Curry leaves, Amla, Fenugreek, and Onion, were prepared and incorporated into virgin Coconut oil. Phytochemical screening, total flavonoid content, organoleptic evaluation, chemical analysis (acid value, saponification value, specific gravity), stability studies, antioxidant assay (DPPH), antimicrobial assay, sensitivity studies, and in-vivo hair growth activity were conducted. Results: Organoleptic evaluation revealed characteristic odors and colors across formulations. Chemical analysis showed acceptable values for acid value (0.68 - 1.86 mg KOH/g), saponification value (117.87 - 224.27 mg KOH/g), and specific gravity (0.865 - 0.933 g/cm^3). Stability studies over 45 days demonstrated consistent physicochemical properties. The DPPH assay indicated dose-dependent antioxidant activity, with inhibition ranging from 13.8% to 66.5%. Antimicrobial assay showed inhibition zones ranging from 6 mm to 20 mm against Staphylococcus aureus. Sensitivity studies exhibited no adverse reactions. In-vivo hair growth activity demonstrated significant improvements compared to controls. Discussion: The formulated herbal hair oils exhibited promising physicochemical properties, antioxidant activity, antimicrobial efficacy, safety, and hair growth promotion in animal models. These findings suggest their potential as natural remedies for hair care. Conclusion: Herbal hair oils formulated in this study show significant potential for promoting hair growth and addressing hair-related concerns. Whereas, formulation F3 shown significant efficacy across multiple parameters among the formulations. Further research and clinical trials are warranted to validate their efficacy and safety for human use.
