1. The addition of from 1 to 30% MoS2 to TsIATIM-201 lithium grease had practically no effect on yield value at 20–80°C, viscosity at −50 to +50°C, mechanical stability, or heat hardening. MoS2 does not have any appreciable thickening capability when it is added to the grease either cold or with remelting. 2. The addition of up to 2% MoS2 gives a sharp increase in Pc and reduces the frictional torque and wear in four-ball tests. Increasing the MoS2 content to 30% gives little additional improvement in these characteristics, and is not advisable from the standpoint of improving E.P. properties. 3. In tests on samples of grease containing MoS2, the method of application (tight packing or thin film) does not affect the antifriction, E.P., or antiwear properties, whereas in the absence of MoS2 the transition to tight packing gives substantially poorer test results.
