HARMS and Douglas (1960) suggested that a valid comparison could not be made on Haugh unit values of eggs from hens producing at different rates in nutritional experiments. They found a negative correlation between rate of past egg production as influenced by dietary treatment and Haugh units of eggs.In order to gather more information on this relationship, Haugh units of eggs were determined from pullets fed diets which varied sufficiently in protein and energy so as to greatly affect rate of egg production. PROCEDURECommerical egg production type pullets were used in these experiments. They were grown in confinement and “full fed” during the entire growing period. The starter diet fed during the first eight weeks contained 22 percent protein and 940 Calories of productive energy per pound of diet.
