A technology was developed for obtaining a hard-faced layer with different physical properties on steel rolls of rolling mills. The method uses electric-arc hard-facing with powder wire and whole-drawn wire under a layer of ceramic flux. The technology is based on a device which simultaneously feeds electrode wires of different chemical compositions into the arc combustion zone. The feed rate of each wire is regulated automatically to ensure a constant total quantity of hard-faced metal. Taking into account that each steel roll can be hard-faced at least twice, replacing cast-iron work rolls with steel rolls hard-faced according to this method will make it possible to save about 200 tons of cast-iron rolls over a year.
