Factors to Success in Life as Perceived by Ukrainian War Refugees

This paper is to present the results of the research on how Ukrainian war refugees perceive the category of success in life. The information obtained shed some light on how the respondents understand success in life and which factors, in their opinion, contribute to achieving it. Additionally, the results unveil their opinions and beliefs regarding their own success in life and whether they believe achieving life success makes people happy. The full-scale war that has been ravaging Ukraine since February 24, 2022 has forced a significant Ukrainian population out of the borders of their own country. Fearing for their life and safety, most of them took temporary shelter in Poland. Scientific studies with Ukrainian refugees as participants are not something that scholars engage in frequently. There are many reasons for that, and the most important is the fact that a suitable and willing group of participants is hard to come by. However, researching this population has a very important social dimension, especially from the educational and psychological perspective, because the majority of Ukrainian refugees have been arriving in Poland with minor children, who are then enrolled in the Polish school system, are cared for by Polish teachers, and participate in Polish educational, socialisation, and adaptation processes. That is why, it is crucial to consistently investigate the refugees’ opinions on their personal and social life. Teachers are a particularly important group of readers who might benefit from this paper. It is them who are predominantly responsible for the processes taking place in the educational domain. Due to the vast numbers of refugee children and students from Ukraine taught in Polish kindergartens and schools, researching the topic of success and self-fulfilment factors may increase the effectiveness of teaching, upbringing, and care in educational institutions.

The Sequence Argument Against the Procreation Asymmetry

AbstractThe procreation asymmetry is a widely held view in ethics, claiming that one should make existing people happy but has no reason to make happy people. Here, I shall present a new objection demonstrating from modest premises that one has a reason to take a sequence of actions that simply creates a happy person; yet this judgment in combination with plausible principles about sequences of actions entails that one has some reason to simply create a happy person. Additionally, I will argue that one's reasons to create a happy person are quite strong.

A study on Modeling and Simulation of Sports Training Injury Optimization from a Biomechanical Perspective

With the development of artificial intelligence technology today, sports training is one of the important ways to keep people healthy. Reasonable sports training can keep people happy, and can also improve the physical quality of athletes. However, because the intensity of sports training is greater than the physical endurance, it may lead to physical injury. The sports training injury model can collect the physical data of athletes, and simulate whether the actions that athletes want to practice are standard and correct through the collected data. If there are errors in the simulated exercise actions, the wrong exercise actions can be corrected in time, so as to reduce the incidence of sports injury accidents. The construction of the experimental model and the calculation and analysis process of the construction data are very complex, and the existing simulation models are difficult to achieve this, which has a significant impact on the subsequent development of the simulation model. In view of this phenomenon, this paper, on the basis of the sports training injury model, combined with the neural network method, conducted an effective research on the construction of the sports training injury model, and inspected the performance of the model by testing the accuracy of the evaluation of the injury risk level, the degree of sports training injury, and the accuracy of the evaluation of the prediction results of the sports training injury model. The experimental data shows that the maximum accuracy of the sports training injury model in the horizontal and vertical directions was 94.43% and 95.26% respectively, and the maximum accuracy of the single injury degree and the composite injury degree was 48.68% and 55.01% respectively, which had high accuracy and operational efficiency, and can effectively avoid the occurrence of training injury.

The effect of hedonic and eudaimonic happiness in driving altruistic food choices

AbstractThis study investigates whether individual happiness affects prosocial behavior in food choices. We considered two distinct dimensions of happiness: hedonic and eudaimonic. The hedonic component is focused on pleasure, joy, and immediate gratification, while the eudaimonic aspect is related to a sense of purpose in life, personal growth, and the fulfillment of individual aspirations. We conducted a discrete choice experiment to assess if happy people are more prone to altruistic choices when buying food. The results indicate that individual happiness exerts distinct effects according to its two dimensions, eudaimonia and hedonism. We found that happiness influences the demand for ethical foods, whereas it exerts a detrimental effect on preferences for food with environmental labels.

Having to ‘go beyond’: Staff perspectives on activity programs for older people living in nursing homes

Activity programs are run by many nursing homes (also known as residential aged care facilities or long-term care facilities) however little is known about how activities are chosen or how well they meet the needs of residents. The aim of this study was to learn more about activity programs currently offered to older people living in nursing homes in Victoria, Australia. Interviews were undertaken with 13 activities/lifestyle staff working across six nursing homes. Staff were asked about their role and training; how activities were chosen, run, and evaluated; and barriers to providing social participation opportunities for residents. Thematic analysis of interview transcripts revealed six main themes: the role of the activities staff is to make people happy and meet their needs; activities staff largely choose (group based) activities; evaluation of activity programs is mostly informal; activity programs are poorly resourced; staff are often required to ‘go beyond’; and catering to the unique needs of residents is challenging. Given the established importance of social interaction to physical and psychosocial health, it is essential that activity programs and staff are viewed as integral to resident wellbeing; that staff are trained and supported; and that programs are funded and resourced adequately to deliver programs that are person-centred and meet the needs and preferences of residents.

People in relationally mobile cultures report higher well-being.

In cultures with high relational mobility, relationships are free and flexible. People can make new friends easily, and they have the freedom to leave unsatisfying relationships. In cultures with low relational mobility, relationships are more fixed, and people have less freedom to leave relationships. We argue that people experience higher well-being if they have the freedom to exit toxic relationships and find new partners easily. In Study 1, we ran a controlled comparison by testing people all within the same nation. We measured well-being and relational mobility in a representative sample of 22,669 people across China. People reported greater well-being in relationally mobile prefectures. Study 2 found this same relationship across 74,657 people in 34 cultures. Study 3 used a cross-lagged design to give more insight into the direction of the relationship. The results showed that relational mobility predicted later subjective well-being, but not the opposite direction. What matters more for happiness than income in China: Intentional activities, social attitudes, or social comparison?

AbstractThe article integrates interdisciplinary insights in an analytical framework and aims to examine what factors matter more for happiness than income in China from a sociological perspective. The study emphasizes the importance of social contexts and adopts a mixed‐methods approach. Quantitative analysis of the 2015 Chinese General Social Survey data shows that intentional activities, social attitudes, and social comparison are significantly associated with Chinese people's happiness after economic circumstances and sociodemographic characteristics have been taken into account as control variables. In addition, qualitative analysis of in‐depth interviews helps to contextualize the quantitative findings and to enrich the understanding of why these factors rather than income would play a more significant role in making people happy in China. This study demonstrates the value of investigating happiness across disciplinary boundaries and makes an empirical contribution to examining subjective well‐being in contemporary society.

Happy People in Russia: The Role of Economic and Social Capital

Amid conditions of global instability in recent years, approximately one-tenth of the residents of Russia consistently report high levels of subjective well-being. The aim of this article is to analyze the socio-demographic characteristics of the “happy and satisfied” segment of Russians and the influence of economic and social capital on their high level of affective and cognitive components of subjective well-being. This study is based on data from the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey – Higher School of Economics (RLMS-HSE), with surveys conducted from 2016 to 2020. For the purposes of analysis, a stable segment of "fully satisfied with life" and "very happy" Russians (10–12% of 5–6 thousand respondents annually) was selected from the sample array. Economic capital in the study is measured through indicators such as absolute income, assessment of material well-being and remuneration, and perception of economic inequality, while social capital is measured through the structure, intensity, and quality of social connections and the nature of group identity. The analysis of the empirical data shows that people who are fully satisfied with life and happy are aged 25–34, married, have children, and possess average incomes. Low incomes are associated with subjective disadvantage, but for maximum happiness and life satisfaction, it is quite enough to have an average income level. Additionally, the cognitive component of subjective well-being assessments is more related to material and financial factors than the affective component. It is demonstrated that high levels of subjective well-being are more influenced by parameters of social, rather than economic, capital. Representatives of the predominantly happy segment of Russians communicate more frequently with family members and friends, care for young children or grandchildren, and feel a sense of belonging to broader social communities (professional, national, or territorial).

Meaning and Joy at Work and Nurse Self-Care Practices: An Exploratory Study.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement Framework for Improving Joy at Work includes self-care as a strategy to support happy, healthy, and productive people; however, this relationship has not previously been empirically demonstrated. The purpose of this study was to describe self-care practices and levels of meaning and joy in work (MJW) in a sample of registered nurses and to explore the relationship between self-care and MJW. Registered nurses (n=122) from a regional health system completed a survey during a nursing recognition event. Measures included a Demographic Questionnaire, the Meaning and Joy in Work Questionnaire (MJWQ), and the Brief Mindful Self-Care Scale (Brief MSCS). The mean MJWQ score was 4.29 on a scale of 1 to 5, and the mean Brief MSCS score was 3.05. There was a significant relationship between MJWQ and Brief MSCS scores (r=0.43, P<.001). These results indicate that supporting self-care in nurses may improve MJW.

Dwelling in Active Serenity: Nature in Werner Herzog’s Cinema

Abstract This article puts Werner Herzog’s films in dialogue with Martin Heidegger’s philosophy to answer the question of how to dwell, to be at home with nature. I argue that an apathy–empathy aporia blockades the discussion of the nature–human relationship in Herzog’s cinema, which tends to view his representation of nature as either entirely apathetic to human flourishing or totally identifiable with being human. Both versions of nature fail to do full justice to the nuanced vision of nature in Herzog, especially its dynamics and problematics as a safe place. To address this problem, I will closely read and compare three of his films across his career: Aguirre, The Wrath Of God (1972), Grizzly Man (2005), and Happy People: A Year in the Taiga (2010) in the light of Heidegger’s philosophy. Drawing on Heidegger’s thought on dwelling, technology, being-in-the-world, temporality, Gelassenheit, and Care, I move away from the standard paradigm and reinterpret the nature–human relationship in Herzog as a negotiation between the homely and the unhomely in search of an equilibrium I call “active serenity.” Thus, this article is both a film-philosophy experiment with Herzog and Heidegger and a contemplation of the antagonism between humans and nature, which underlines our modern world.

Evaluating happiness trends across Europe: A comparative study

In our contribution, by using data from European Social Survey, we show that the percentage of happy people in European countries has increased over the last two decades, and that Eastern European countries are catching up. However, considerable differences between nations remain.

Happy people are always similar: The evidence from brain morphological and functional inter-subject correlations

A fundamental question in the study of happiness is whether there is neural evidence to support a well-known hypothesis that happy people are always similar while unfortunate people have their own misfortunes. To investigate this, we employed several happiness-related questionnaires to identify potential components of happiness, and further investigated and confirmed their associations with personality, mood, aggressive behaviors, and amygdala reactivity to fearful faces within a substantial sample size of college students (n = 570). Additionally, we examined the functional and morphological similarities and differences among happy individuals using the inter-subject representational similarity analysis (IS-RSA). IS-RSA emphasizes the geometric properties in a high-dimensional space constructed by brain or behavioral patterns and focuses on individual subjects. Our behavioral findings unveiled two factors of happiness: individual and social, both of which mediated the effect of personality traits on individual aggression. Subsequently, mood mediated the impact of happiness on aggressive behaviors across two subgroup splits. Functional imaging data revealed that individuals with higher levels of happiness exhibited reduced amygdala reactivity to fearful faces, as evidenced by a conventional face-matching task (n = 104). Moreover, IS-RSA demonstrated that these participants manifested similar neural activation patterns when processing fearful faces within the visual pathway, but not within the emotional network (e.g., amygdala). Morphological observations (n = 425) indicated that individuals with similar high happiness levels exhibited comparable gray matter volume patterns within several networks, including the default mode network, fronto-parietal network, visual network, and attention network. Collectively, these findings offer early neural evidence supporting the proposition that happy individuals may share common neural characteristics.

Impact of Perceived Parenting Styles on Happiness and Aggression among Youth

Abstract: This study explores the complex relationship between perceived parenting styles, aggressiveness, and happiness, with a particular emphasis on how these relationships affect young adults' emotional and psychological health. The home environment, which is frequently regarded as a testing ground for emotional growth, is investigated as a major factor in determining how young people view parents. Happy people experience emotional stability,positive behavioural modelling, and open communication—all of which are essential for a child's healthy development. Happiness is a key motivator for these significant outcomes. On the other hand, family violence has long-term consequences that affect not just the victim's immediate emotional reaction, but also their behaviour patterns and interpersonal relationships. This study sheds light on the complex relationships between these emotionaldynamics, as well as their long-term impact on young people' psychological development. The study's findings pave the way for targeted treatments, support networks, and legislativerecommendations aimed at promoting emotionally supportive family environments

The Development of Happy Organization Indicators of Private Vocational Colleges in The Northeast

Background and Aims: The concept of a happiness organization is another idea aimed at promoting the quality of life in the workplace for individuals. It believes that fostering relationships within the organization leads to happiness. The feeling of being valued and having a sense of worth to the organization creates a sense of commitment, joy, love in work, and devotion to the organization. ready to dedicate physical and mental strength to contribute fullest potential of the organization. This research aims, to development of happy organization indicators and to test the goodness of fit of the structural relationship model of happy organization indicators of private vocational colleges in the Northeast with empirical data. Methodology: The research is divided into 2 phases. Phases 1 to development of happy organization indicators. The key informants group consisted of 9 experts, a sample group of 490 administrators and teachers. The research instrument is an interview form and a questionnaire. Statistics to analyze data by mean and standard deviation. Phase 2 to test the goodness of fit of the structural relationship model happy organization indicators of private vocational colleges in the Northeast with the empirical data, by second-order confirmatory factor analysis. Results: The indicators of the happy organization of private vocational colleges in the Northeast comprised 5 factors and 25 indicators, Happy people 5 indicators, Happy home 5 indicators, Organizational culture 5 indicators, Job satisfaction 5 indicators, and Happy Teamwork 5 indicators. 2. The goodness of fit of the structural relationship model of happy organization indicators of private vocational colleges in the Northeast. It was in good agreement with the empirical data, with Chi-Square = 3853.531, df = 270, P-Value = 0.000, CMIN/df. = 1.428, CFI = .962, GFI = 0.929 TLI = .958, AGFI= 0.915, RMSEA=0.033 RMR= 0.030, NFI= 0.886, IFI= 0.963. Every component had a statistically significant relationship at the 0.001 level. Conclusion: The consideration of workplace happiness is deemed a crucial factor in organizational management, particularly in the realm of human resource management. It has a significant impact on an individual level, fostering greater motivation and effectiveness in the workplace, and creating an atmosphere of happiness in the educational environment, administrators, teachers, and students collaboratively work together with full dedication and ability, resulting in improved operations and increased efficiency and effectiveness. OPTIMIZATION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE MARRIAGE ADVISORY, GUIDANCE, PRESERVATION AGENCY (BP4) IN RELATION TO THE DIVORCE RATE IN THE BANDUNG HIGH RELIGIOUS COURT (PTA) AREA

This research starts from the fact that shows the high divorce rate in Indonesia, this is evidence of the absence of household harmony that is not sufficient before entering into marriage, so the State is responsible as ordered by law, for the welfare of its people, making their households happy and eternal, that is where the State must be present and act to realize the households of its people happy and prosperous, one of which is by establishing premarital education early on as a concrete step to reduce the high divorce rate in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze the optimal function of BP4 in tackling the divorce rate, the divorce rate in the PTA Bandung area 2017 to 2022, the function of BP4 in relation to the competence of judges, and BP4's efforts to reduce the divorce rate in the PTA Bandung area. The results of this study indicate that, First, Optimizing the Function of the Marriage Counseling, Guidance, Preservation Agency in relation to the high divorce rate in the Bandung PTA area, including: enhancing and improving the quality of marriage and happy families, preventing underage marriage, preventing unhealthy polygamy, and providing information advice in guidance to those concerned about Nikah, Talak and Rujuk (NTR) issues, especially for broken home households.

Visual analysis of behavioral differences in online dating by age and gender

With the development of science and technology, people's dependence on the Internet and spiritual needs have increased simultaneously, so online dating has gradually become popular. Because high-quality online dating can increase people's happiness and benefit people's physical and mental health, and people's multifaceted preferences will affect the choice of dating partners and the success rate of online dating, so the research on users' behavior preferences in online dating is of great importance. This paper uses the method of data visualization to conduct research, focusing on the comparative study of behavioral preferences in online dating among different ages and genders. The analysis shows that the elderly and women in the dating market are relatively passive. At the same time, people still have certain prejudices against online dating, and there may be some people who do not aim to obtain a romantic relationship.
