As a means of validating E. Hartmann's clinical observations that suggest differences in reasoning ability between habitual short and long sleepers (favoring the latter), the responses of 73 short and 56 long sleepers to a measure of fluid intelligence were compared. Congruent with Hartmann's observations, the long sleepers were significantly higher than the short sleepers in level of fluid intelligence.
