Compare the effect of different teaching methods in piano education

Piano education is an important part of music education, the choice of teaching methods has a profound impact on students' learning results. By comparing the application effects of traditional teaching method, gamified learning method and technology-assisted teaching method in piano education, this paper aims to explore the influence of different teaching methods on students' learning interest, skill mastery speed and long-term retention rate. The study selected 120 beginners from a music college as samples and randomly assigned them to three different teaching methods for a half-year course. The data were collected by means of pre and post test results, questionnaire survey and in-depth interview, and the SPSS software was used for quantitative analysis of the data. The results show that gamified learning method has the best performance in stimulating students' learning interest; The technology-assisted teaching method has obvious advantages in improving the efficiency of skill mastery. Traditional teaching rules are more conducive to students to form stable learning habits and maintain long-term skills. This study not only enriched the theoretical basis of piano education, but also provided teachers with diversified teaching strategy reference, which is helpful to improve the overall teaching quality. In addition, the study points out the limitations of each teaching method and makes recommendations for future research directions.

Learning Culture from the Perspective of the Successful Indonesian Nurse Competency Examination

Background: The Indonesian Nurse Competency Examination (INCE) is a strategic component that determines the output of nursing graduate students. The varied geographical conditions of the various islands in Indonesia can influence access and quality of education, causing students to have a more inclusive perspective. The learning culture of Indonesian nursing students is unique and generally carries over to higher education, notably nursing profession education.Objective: The purpose of the study is to explain the learning culture model from the perspective of the success of the nurse competency examination and the relationship between learning culture and the success of the nurse competency examination.Methods: A qualitative and quantitative combination research (mixed method) with a sequential-exploratory design was employed. Stage 1 used descriptive qualitative methods. While data collecting used structured interviews, the sampling technique utilized snowball with (n=9), and data analysis used Sandelowski content analysis. Stage 2 was an observational analytical design with a retrospective approach involving 74 nursing students at Wiraraja University who lived in the Indonesian student area. Data analysis then employed the Structural Equation Model (SEM) test to find variables that significantly influence the success of INCE.Results: Stage-1 produced three themes: Theme-1: background of the learning environment concerning facilities utilization and searching strategy for learning resources; Theme-2: learning activities including learning styles, learning motivation, and self-confidence and abilities; Theme-3: learning habits comprising learning methods, concentration, and repeating the learning material. In stage 2, the result revealed that learning environment background (p=0.031), learning activities (p=0.021), and study habits (p=0.028) were significantly related to the success of the INCE on students.Conclusion: The learning culture of Indonesian students from the perspective of success in the INCE is formed starting from the pre-graduate level and continuing at the higher and professional levels.

Design of a Student Recommendation Platform Based on Learning Behavior and Habit Training

This study innovatively built an intelligent analysis platform for learning behavior, which deeply integrated the cutting-edge technology of big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), \mined and analyzed students’ learning data, and realized the personalized customization of learning resources and the accurate matching of intelligent learning partners. With the help of advanced algorithms and multi-dimensional data fusion strategies, the platform not only promotes positive interaction and collaboration in the learning environment but also provides teachers with comprehensive and in-depth students’ learning portraits, which provides solid support for the implementation of precision education and the personalized adjustment of teaching strategies. In this study, a recommender system based on user similarity evaluation and a collaborative filtering mechanism is carefully designed, and its technical architecture and implementation process are described in detail.

Academic Self-Concept, Efficacy, and Procrastination Behavior among College Students in China

The study aims to explore the relationship among academic procrastination behavior among college students, academic self-concept and academic self-efficacy. It examines the effect mechanism of academic self-concept on academic procrastination behavior. This study enriched relevant research on college students ‘academic procrastination behavior, and provide a corresponding theoretical basis for improving college students’ learning habits and learning efficiency. This study utilizes 437 survey questionnaires through the combination of the Academic Self-Efficacy and Academic Procrastination and the General Academic Self-Concept Scale of Young People and College Students. Descriptive statistical analysis, and regression analysis were completed using SPSS software The results of the study show the overall level of academic self-concept of contemporary college students is relatively general while the level of academic self-concept shows significant age differences. Nowadays, students in Chinese colleges and universities have academic procrastination behavior, and the level of academic procrastination behavior shows significant differences between sexes. Students ‘academic self-efficacy plays a partial intermediary role between academic procrastination behavior and academic self-concept, college students’ academic self-concept can affect their level of academic self-efficacy, thus affecting their academic procrastination behavior. A training program was suggested to improve the academic procrastination of Chinese college students.

Research on Creative Practice in Music Education Empowered by AI

This paper reviews the development of AI in music, And introduced three AI products to demonstrate their wide range of applications and innovative capabilities in creation. It explores the transformation of student roles and the value of AI in art education in conjunction with the new art curriculum standards. The paper emphasizes enhancing student skills through creative practice. It also reflects on the challenges and opportunities of integrating technology with art, noting that AI should assist rather than replace human creativity. Looking ahead, this paper underscores the importance of maintaining human creativity at the core amidst the AI wave, providing theoretical support and direction for integrating technology into art education and promoting harmonious coexistence between art and technology. It also emphasizes indirectly that in this process, educators need to continuously explore, making technology a powerful assistant in cultivating students' creativity. Students also need to learn to use AI to cultivate the habit of autonomous learning.

Factors Influencing Students' Learning Preferences in College Piano Teaching and Countermeasures

In the course of higher education development, piano teaching plays a vital role in fostering students' basic musical literacy, guiding them to form good music learning habits, helping them establish a fundamental understanding of music knowledge, and thereby enhancing their music appreciation abilities. Due to the diversification of educational environments and the increasing personalization of student demands, in order to improve the quality of piano music teaching and stimulate students' potential, it is crucial to study students' learning preferences from various angles. This forms an important foundation for personalized teaching. Therefore, university piano teaching still needs continuous improvement in teaching strategies. Piano teaching should be adjusted according to course requirements, abandoning outdated piano education concepts and rigid methods, and analyzing from multiple dimensions to clarify the connection between students' learning preferences and the effectiveness of piano teaching. This helps students master piano playing techniques and strengthen their skills, equipping them with solid basics and advancing college piano education to new heights.

Fog Computing for Artificial Intelligence Digital Textbooks: Educational Scaffolding and Security and Privacy Challenges

ABSTRACTDigital textbooks (DTs) have evolved from DT 1.0, which simply converted paper textbooks to PDF format, to DT 2.0, which provides various multimedia content, for example, video and audio content. DTs have now advanced to DT 3.0, which enhances learner engagement through gamification and simulations. Recently, with the advancement of cloud computing technology and digital devices, for example, tablets, DT 4.0, which supports personalised learning through artificial intelligence (AI) tutors and chatbots, has been realised. South Korea is actively implementing a policy to distribute artificial intelligence–based DTs, equivalent to DT 4.0, to all schools under national leadership. For artificial intelligence–based DTs (AIDTs) in South Korea to develop into a sustainable education system, reliance on cloud computing alone is insufficient. It is also necessary to build layers of fog computing and edge computing from the initial stage. There are concerns that AIDTs may exacerbate the learning gap because they are more likely to be utilised actively by high‐performing students with established self‐directed learning habits rather than struggling students. Thus, it is essential to enhance usage monitoring and explore strategies that provide educational scaffolding to prevent differences in the level of AIDT utilisation from leading to a widening learning gap.

Sex and estradiol effects in the rodent dorsal striatum.

17β-Estradiol (E2) is a sex hormone that acts on many brain regions to produce changes in neuronal activity and learning. A key brain region sensitive to E2 is the dorsal striatum (also called caudate-putamen), which controls motor behaviour, goal-directed learning and habit learning. In adult rodents, oestrogen receptors (ERs) in the dorsal striatum are localized to the plasma membrane and include ERα, ERβ and G protein-coupled ER (GPER). E2, either naturally produced or exogenously applied, may influence neuronal excitability, basal synaptic transmission and long-term synaptic potentiation. These effects may be due to direct action on signalling pathways or may be due to changes in dopamine availability. In particular, estradiol influences dopamine release, dopamine receptor expression and dopamine transporter expression. We review the cellular effects that E2 has in the dorsal striatum, distinguishing between exogenously applied E2 and the oestrous cycle, as well as its influence on dorsal striatal-dependent motor and learning behaviour.

Scalable Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Data Mining Protecting Career Success in Labor Education

This paper examines the creative approaches to labor education by looking at them through the prism of educational and technical advancements. It tackles the current issue of insufficient worker preparation for the complexity of contemporary workplaces caused by antiquated educational methods. There is a widening skills gap since traditional labor education has a hard time keeping up with the changes. Labor Education based on Digital Technologies (LE-DT) is proposed as a solution to this problem in this paper. To make labor education more engaging, accessible, and relevant to today’s workers, LE-DT uses digital technologies and platforms to transform its delivery. Learners’ engagement, retention, and skill development may be improved by the use of multimedia materials, interactive simulations, virtual reality experiences, online courses, and LE-DT. Personalized learning paths, remote collaboration tools, gamified learning modules, and virtual apprenticeships are a few of the many uses of LE-DT covered in the paper. In doing so, it prepares employees for the challenges of the contemporary workplace by bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. The paper evaluates the efficacy of LE-DT in enhancing learning outcomes, boosting labor productivity, and encouraging lifelong learning habits by presenting results from its deployment in various scenarios. Job rates, organizational performance indicators, learner happiness, and skill mastery are some of the evaluation measures.

In the process of urbanization, a large number of migrant workers have appeared. Such migration often leads to the migration of rural youth to cities, leaving their children to the care of older relatives due to various restrictions. This situation requires social attention to the overall well-being of left-behind children, especially in their education. Lack of parental guidance and support due to long-term separation often leads to unbalanced academic and personal life, leading to problems such as passive participation, disinterest in learning, inattention in class and poor note-taking. This paper aims to explore the influence of learning habits and English learning performance of left-behind children in rural primary schools in Shandong Province. This provides comprehensive support for left-behind children in rural areas and cultivates their ability to learn independently.

Implementing online discussion boards to enhance professional skills and news reading habits in accounting students

ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of a teaching and learning activity using news articles on fostering professional skills (including critical thinking, collaboration, and openness to learning). In this activity, an Asynchronous Online Discussion Board (AODB) was used as a medium to facilitate learning. Implemented in two postgraduate accounting courses over two academic years, the AODB activity required students to engage with relevant business news, make a meaningful contribution, and interact with their peers. A mixed-method approach, involving a survey of 231 students and 22 semi-structured interviews, was used to assess the effectiveness of the activity. The results show that the activity significantly enhanced engagement, critical thinking, and collaborative learning, with critical thinking emerging as the predominant skill developed. Additionally, students demonstrated an increased frequency of reading business news, reflecting the integration of lifelong learning habits. This research contributes to the literature by offering a practical and scalable approach for accounting educators globally to develop both technical and non-technical skills, addressing the growing demands of the profession in a digitalised, global business environment. The study also emphasises the importance of innovative teaching methods that can be adapted to diverse educational contexts.

PENINGKATAN KEBIASAAN MANDIRI SISWA MELALUI KEGIATAN RUTIN DI SDN CIPICUNG

One of the focuses of KKN activities is improving the quality of education in the surrounding environment. Routine activities carried out during KKN, especially in the educational environment, one of which is at SDN Cipicung includes: (1) Flag Ceremony on Monday, (2) Reading Literacy on Tuesday and Wednesday, (3) Fatonah (Memorization) on Thursday, (4) Yasinan on Friday, and (5) Sports on Saturday. These activities are designed to familiarize students with routines that can support their independent learning. The results of observations show that routine activities at SDN Cipicung have a positive impact on improving students' independent learning habits. Students show increased self-discipline, responsibility, and good learning habits. This article concludes that routine activities carried out at SDN Cipicung can be a model in developing educational practices that support students' independent learning

Emotional Intelligence and Study Habits as Predictors of Online Learning Motivation of Students in Filipino

The study aims to predict the level of emotional intelligence, study habits, and their significant influence on the online learning motivation of students in Filipino. Analysis was conducted on data collected from 251 STEM students in selected public Senior High Schools who still opted for online learning as delivery of instruction. The study used a quantitative research design and applied a descriptive-correlational technique. Meanwhile, the adopted survey questionnaire was validated and used to gather the data needed for the study. Results revealed through weighted mean that the level of emotional intelligence, study habits, and online learning motivation of students in Filipino were high. With the help of regression analysis, results proved that there was a significant relationship among variables. Thus, the study also showed that learners with high levels of emotional intelligence and study habits significantly influenced their motivation to learn in an online environment, which results in academic success. These findings indicate that a strong foundation in emotion and systematic study habits in learning plays a vital role in sustaining motivation and acquiring knowledge online. Therefore, students will be more engaged in an online learning environment and will be encouraged to learn intrinsically when their emotional intelligence and study habits are well-established. School management, teachers, and institutions can use these findings to understand, support, and make interventions for the development of motivation in the modern way of learning in the online world.

New Directions and Development Models for College Student Education based on Machine Learning Classification Algorithms

For the contemporary student teaching system, the information-based education management system has played a positive role in the rapid promotion of teaching. In order to get the teaching exploration data of modern information management from the data increment on the Internet, this paper updates the technology of data mining. This paper constructs a quantitative table for teacher positions and conducts ideological and political job evaluations in the database. This paper mainly focuses on the management and construction of ideological informatization based on the [Formula: see text]-means algorithm. By using the [Formula: see text]-means algorithm to analyze the daily behavior data of students, we can discover their behavior patterns and trends, providing decision support for student management. For example, by analyzing data such as students’ internet time, social activities, and library borrowing records, we can understand their interests, hobbies, and learning habits, providing a foundation for personalized education. Cluster analysis of students’ ideological and political performance using the [Formula: see text]-means algorithm can identify student groups with different ideological tendencies. This helps schools to carry out targeted ideological and political education work, and improve the pertinence and effectiveness of ideological and political education. Through quality tracking analysis of educational evaluation, it has carried out educational informatization tracking management using an information model. In the process of judging and analyzing different subjects, it utilized the hot topics of universities for a more comprehensive information intelligent tracking management.

Analisis Kebiasaan cara belajar siswa berprestasi pada mata Pelajaran IPS Terpadu Kelas VII di SMP Negeri 2 Boalaang Mongondow Utara.

This research aims to describe (1) the learning habits of high-achieving students in Integrated Social Science subject for Class VII of SMP Negeri 2 Bolaang Mongondow Utara, and (2) the factors influencing the learning habits of high- achieving students. The research method employs qualitative research, and utilizes observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection methods. The subjects of this research include one key informant and four supporting informants, consisting of the school principal of SMP Negeri 2 Bolaang Mongondow Utara, teachers of Integrated Social Science subject, and Class VII B students. The results indicate that: (1) students have various learning habits; they are highly active during lessons, particularly enjoying reading and writing activities. They take notes when the teacher explains, prefer listening to the teacher, and actively participate in answering questions. High-achieving students effectively manage their study time. (2) Factors influencing students learning habits include physiological factor, where students' health conditions upon arriving at school affect their learning habits. Meanwhile, it also includes psychological factor en which can impact learning habits and social environment factor motivation

Use of Learner Engagement Analytics to empower medical educators to make data-informed decisions

Learner Engagement Analytics (LEA) has enabled Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to identify learners who are not engaging with their studies and provide targeted support and help (Naeem and Bosman, 2023). It has also allowed educators to make data-informed decisions to inform their curriculum design and classroom practice (Cogliano et al., 2022). The LEA data is captured from a wide range of sources related to teaching and learning which offer meaningful insights into a learner’s learning habits (Eady et al., 2021). Previous research suggests that providing learning analytics to educators in Higher Education Institutions can improve learning outcomes for students (Aslan et al., 2019). At Queen Mary University of London, a multidisciplinary team was formed of medical educators, LEA experts, learning technologists, and learning innovation professionals to investigate how LEA can inform curriculum redesign in the early phase of the medical curriculum. Through a series of scholarship meetings on LEA using data dashboards from the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the team analysed learners’ engagement with the virtual pre-sessional resources. The VLE interactive resources were designed to allow medical learners to develop clinical interpretation skills during practical sessions, as recommended by the General Medical Council (GMC, 2018). However, medical educators lacked the metrics to evaluate learners’ interaction with these virtual resources. Therefore, it was inevitable to train educators on how to use LEA to optimise students’ learning. The team assessed the learners' engagement on the VLE, quantified engagement scores, and evaluated the results against key outcomes, including the learners' performance. The LEA data offered further insights into virtual engagement across multiple modules in the medical curriculum. Effectively, the outcome of this work empowered medical educators to make informed decisions regarding the future use of VLE resources in curriculum design and develop virtual resources to increase students’ engagement and enhance their learning.

Evaluating our “impact”: reflections from the personal learning advice service

The neoliberalisation of higher education in the UK has placed greater pressure on Learning Development units to demonstrate impact. Together with increased regulatory scrutiny from bodies such as the Office for Students in England (and the monitoring of B3 thresholds, awarding gaps, the Teaching Excellence Framework, and other measures), rigorous evaluation is arguably more crucial than ever. In this workshop, we offered reflections and learning from the evaluation of the four-year Personal Learning Advice Service pilot at the Open University (UK). The Personal Learning Advice (PLA) Service project is an Access and Participation Plan initiative which has delivered a one-to-one and group coaching and mentoring service (Clay et al., 2023) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds since January 2021 (Lochtie and Hillman, 2023). Coaching and mentoring approaches have been used by our team to support students’ learning and study habits, wellbeing, and help-seeking behaviours (Hillman et al., in press). In the first part of this workshop, we shared learning from approaches used to evaluate the work of the service – from narrative and empirical evidence to causal evaluation in randomised controlled trials (TASO, 2022) – and situated this in the wider literature on evaluation in HE (Sabri, 2023). We shared findings from our work and reflected on the standards of evidence in HE (OfS, 2019). In the second part of the workshop, we invited delegates to consider how they measure and evaluate impact in their own context. We also explored relevant LD scholarship and publications. Our presentation aligned with the ALDcon24 theme ‘Building Learning Development for the Future’, and we sought to invite discussion about the way we demonstrate ‘impact’ as Learning Developers.

An Investigatıon of the Adaptation, Physical Activity and Nutrition Habits of First-Year University Students in Online Education

Aim: The COVID-19 pandemic has instigated a profound transformation in the education sector, ushering in comprehensive changes from students' learning habits to the functioning of educational institutions. This study aims to evaluate the adaptations, nutritional habits, and physical activities of first-year university students following the transition to online education. Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted between April and May 2021, was carried out online with a total of 275 participants. The data collection process involved the utilization of a personal information form developed by the researchers in light of the literature, as well as the Mediterranean Diet Score and University Life Scale. Results: There was no significant difference observed in the Mediterranean diet score and body weight during the university period compared to the pre-university period (p > 0.05). Students living with their families at home demonstrated higher emotional and academic adaptation scores, and those engaging in exercise exhibited significantly higher scores in social adaptation. Conclusion: The pandemic period and the online education process influenced students' supplement usage and dietary habits, but there was no significant change in the exercise participation rate. Furthermore, it was determined that the adjustment to university life, living situation with family, and engagement in exercise had a significant impact on social adaptation.

Oseltamivir phosphate (Tamiflu) alters neurobehavior of zebrafish larvae by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction

Antiviral drugs are widely used, yet their potential risks during early development, particularly within the central nervous system, remain contentious. Oseltamivir phosphate (OSE), a commonly prescribed antiviral, is increasingly detected in various environments. However, its toxicity to organisms and the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. In this study, we employed the zebrafish model to evaluate the developmental neurotoxic effects of OSE at environmentally and therapeutically relevant doses, through high-throughput behavioral analysis, in vivo two-photon imaging, transcriptomic sequencing, pharmacological intervention, and biochemical and molecular assays. Our results indicated that OSE exposure increased heart rate and induced pericardial edema in zebrafish larvae. Additionally, OSE-exposed larvae exhibited hyperactive behavior, impaired social interactions, and reduced habitual learning capacity. Although OSE at our selected levels did not significantly affect neuron count in the brain, it activated neuroinflammatory responses, altered blood vessel morphology, modulated neurotransmitter levels and the expression of neurodevelopment-related genes. Transcriptomic analysis revealed upregulation of mitochondria-related genes associated with oxidative phosphorylation. Further assessments of mitochondrial function demonstrated altered activities of respiratory chain complexes, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and decreased ATP content. Notably, co-treatment with mitochondrial protectants acetyl-l-carnitine-hydrochloride (ALC) or nicotinamide riboside (NR) effectively mitigated OSE-induced neurobehavioral disorders. These findings suggest that overuse of OSE can pose neurodevelopmental risks for both humans and animals, potentially attributable to mitochondrial dysfunction.
