21Na nuclei, produced by the reaction 20Ne(d,n), were polarized by means of optical pumping in the atmosphere of the target. An asymmetry of 0.3% of the subsequent β decay was found. Radio-frequency transitions between hyperfine levels of the atomic ground state of 21Na were detected by a decease of the decay asymmetry.
