Application and Simulation of SVPWM Control Techniques in Three-Phase PV Grid-Connected Inverter

The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM), as a new kind of vector control technique, has the advantages of high voltage utilization, less distorted output, simple control method, etc. In this paper, the control technique is applied to three-phase photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected inverter system. It uses double loop control method combined with PI control technique. The simulation model of PV grid-connected inverter system is established in Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results show that the application of SVPWM technique effectively improves the dynamic performance of PV grid inverter system and the THD of grid-connected current is low.

Optimization of Photovoltaic Grid-Connected Inverter System

In order to increase the stability of grid connection of photovoltaic plant, effort has been made to study the grid connection principle of photovoltaic plant, mathematical model of grid-connected photovoltaic inverter and power grid distributed parameters, and improve traditional space vector control theory to keep d axis of d-q rotating coordinates consistent with the rotating space vector of network voltage and realize decoupling control over active power and reactive power of grid-connected photovoltaic system, through real-time detection of fluctuations in grid-connected current and network voltage, get voltage current dual-loop to place feedback control, which effectively compensates the modulating signal of inverter, reduces photovoltaic grid-connected output voltage and current harmonics so that the system has better robustness, and improves the reliability of grid connection.

High Reliability and Efficiency Single-Phase Transformerless Inverter for Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems

This paper presents a high-reliability single-phase transformerless grid-connected inverter that utilizes superjunction MOSFETs to achieve high efficiency for photovoltaic applications. The proposed converter utilizes two split ac-coupled inductors that operate separately for positive and negative half grid cycles. This eliminates the shoot-through issue that is encountered by traditional voltage source inverters, leading to enhanced system reliability. Dead time is not required at both the high-frequency pulsewidth modulation switching commutation and the grid zero-crossing instants, improving the quality of the output ac-current and increasing the converter efficiency. The split structure of the proposed inverter does not lead itself to the reverse-recovery issues for the main power switches and as such superjunction MOSFETs can be utilized without any reliability or efficiency penalties. Since MOSFETs are utilized in the proposed converter high efficiency can be achieved even at light load operations achieving a high California energy commission (CEC) or European union efficiency of the converter system. It also has the ability to operate at higher switching frequencies while maintaining high efficiency. The higher operating frequencies with high efficiency enables reduced cooling requirements and results in system cost savings by shrinking passive components. With two additional ac-side switches conducting the currents during the freewheeling phases, the photovoltaic array is decoupled from the grid. This reduces the high-frequency common-mode voltage leading to minimized ground loop leakage current. The operation principle, common-mode characteristic and design considerations of the proposed transformerless inverter are illustrated. The total losses of the power semiconductor devices of several existing transformerless inverters which utilize MOSFETs as main switches are evaluated and compared. The experimental results with a 5 kW prototype circuit show 99.0% CEC efficiency and 99.3% peak efficiency with a 20 kHz switching frequency. The high reliability and efficiency of the proposed converter makes it very attractive for single-phase transformerless photovoltaic inverter applications.

Secondary Distribution for Grid Interconnected Nine-level Inverter using PV system

This paper proposes a Secondary distribution (single phase) nine -level inverter for gridconnected photovoltaic systems, with a novel pulse width modulated (PWM) control scheme. F o u r reference signals that are identical to each other with an offset that is equivalent to the amplitude of the triangular carrier signal were used to generate the PWM signals. The inverter is capable of producing nine levels of output-voltage levels (Vdc , 3Vdc /4, Vdc /2,Vdc/4, 0, −Vdc , −3Vdc /4, −Vdc /2, Vdc/4) from the dc supply voltage. A digital proportional–integral current-control algorithm was implemented in a TMS320F2812 DSP to keep the current injected into the grid sinusoidal. The proposed system was verified through simulation and implemented in a prototype.

Dual-inverter for grid-connected photovoltaic system: Modeling and sliding mode control

A fast and robust control strategy for a multilevel inverter in grid-connected photovoltaic system is presented. The multilevel inverter is based on a dual two-level inverter topology. There are two isolated PV generators that feeding each bridge inverter. The output of each inverter is connected to a three-phase transformer. The active and reactive powers flowing into the grid are controlled by a sliding mode algorithm. An alfa–beta space vector modulator is also used. The inverters DC voltages are also controller by a sliding mode controller. In this way, a fast and robust system controller is obtained. Several test results are presented in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system controller.

Design and Implementation of Digital Control of Photovoltaic Power Inverter

Abstract Inverter grid-connected PV system as a network interface with the main equipment, the control technology has become a research hotspot. Based on the theoretical analysis, a brief introduction of photovoltaic grid-connected inverter system structure and working principle, a linear control model of the inverter, the focus of the working conditions of its control grid design and Digital Realization process. Proposed to achieve zero steady state error conditions for sinusoidal current control, the use of band-pass filter type BPFM (Band-Pass Filter Mode) controller and inverter output current control, achieve high performance inverter Grid. Digital signal processor with TMS320LF2407A (DSP) as the controller design and simulation of the system parameters to achieve the small photovoltaic inverter good control.

Control of a Single-Phase Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter for Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems

This paper presents a single-phase cascaded H-bridge converter for a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) application. The multilevel topology consists of several H-bridge cells connected in series, each one connected to a string of PV modules. The adopted control scheme permits the independent control of each dc-link voltage, enabling, in this way, the tracking of the maximum power point for each string of PV panels. Additionally, low-ripple sinusoidal-current waveforms are generated with almost unity power factor. The topology offers other advantages such as the operation at lower switching frequency or lower current ripple compared to standard two-level topologies. Simulation and experimental results are presented for different operating conditions.

Optimal sizing of array and inverter for grid-connected photovoltaic systems

Optimum PV/inverter sizing ratios for grid-connected PV systems in selected European locations were determined in terms of total system output, system output per specific cost of a system, system output per annualised specific cost of a system, PV surface orientation, inclination, tracking system, inverter characteristics, insolation and PV/inverter cost ratio. Maximum total system output was determined for horizontal, vertical and 45° inclined surfaces for a low efficiency inverter for sizing ratios of 1.5, 1.8 and 1.3, respectively; and for a medium efficiency inverter with sizing ratios of 1.4, 1.5 and 1.2. PV surface orientation and inclination have little impact on the performance of a high efficiency inverter. For different PV tracking systems and for different inverter characteristics, the optimum sizing ratio varied from 1.1 to 1.3. The PV/inverter cost ratio and the PV and inverter lifetimes have significant impact on the optimum PV/inverter sizing ratio. A correlation relating optimum sizing ratio and PV/inverter cost ratio has been developed; the correlation coefficients were found to be functions of insolation and inverter type. The impact of PV/inverter sizing ratio on PV array performance was less when PV array has a much higher cost than the inverter. The optimum sizing ratio for PV/inverter cost ratio of 6 and low efficiency inverter system varied from 1.4 to 1.2 for low to high insolation sites. For a high efficiency inverter system, the corresponding variation was from 1.3 to 1.1.

An Integrated Inverter With Maximum Power Tracking for Grid-Connected PV Systems

An inverter for grid-connected photovoltaic systems is presented in this paper. It can globally locate the maximum power point of the panel over wide insolation and feed the solar energy to the grid. Its structure mainly integrates a previously developed maximum point tracking method and output current shaping function into a buck-boost-derived converter and then inverts the shaped current through a grid frequency bridge to the grid. Instead of having a storage capacitor connecting in parallel with the converter output, series connection is used, so that the required capacitor voltage rating is lower than that in classical inverters. Most importantly, the inverter output current harmonics are less sensitive to the capacitor value. A 30-W laboratory prototype has been built. The tracking capability, inversion efficiency, and large-signal responses at different insolations have been investigated. Detailed analysis on the inverter performance has been performed. The theoretical predictions are verified with the experimental results.
