Analytics of cap-and-trade policy for dual supply chain network structures

Nowadays, managing clean and green supply chain activities by reducing carbon footprint is a prominent aspect of the research. This study presents a dual supply chain (DSC) model under the cap-and-trade (CAT) emission reduction for the manufacturer-led five different DSC network structures, namely vertically integrated, decentralized, partially integrated retail, partially integrated direct, and horizontally integrated to minimize the carbon footprint. It uses a backward induction method to find optimum decision variables namely wholesale price, selling price, demand, and emission reduction rate. It presents a mathematical analysis to evaluate how the permitted emission quota and emission level of channel members affect the decision variables of various network structures. Further, it conducts a sensitivity analysis to measure how consumers’ channel preferences affect price and emission reduction rates. This study illustrates that (1) the emission reduction investment can increase demand and improve the emission reduction rate with a considerable drop in price. Also, (2) the additional purchased carbon quota can help maintain emission levels up to a certain extent only because any additional buying will be considered a short-term salutation. As a result, channel members are encouraged to invest in emission reduction technology instead of buying additional permits. These results conclude that promoting CAT can help achieve targets to reduce emissions and foster economic and social development.

An Integrated Multicriteria Group Decision-Making Approach for Green Supplier Selection Under Pythagorean Fuzzy Scenarios

As a critical component in green supply chain activities, green supplier selection modelled as the typical multicriteria group decision-making (MCGDM) problem, has received tremendous attention both from scholars and practitioners. This article aims to advance an integrated approach for precisely addressing this urgent problem under Pythagorean fuzzy (PF) scenario. Firstly, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is utilized for computing criterion weights that comprehensively reflect the intention of decision makers (DMs). Secondly, extend the Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) to PF scenario, and apply the newest magnitude comparison method and distance measure of PF sets in the $L_{p} -$ metric equation to accurately acquire the ranking indices, then obtain the different ranks of candidates along with the adjustment of DM's preference value to balance the group utility and individual regret. Thirdly, median ranking method (MRM) is employed to reach a consensus opinion for the differentiated ranks of candidates via the attribute-wise rank and linear programming model. Subsequently, a numerical example for an agri-food company in China is introduced to illustrate the feasibility of our AHP-VIKOR-MRM method. Finally, conduct the comparison with some available MCGDM methods with PF information to interpret the stability and practicability of our presented method.

Modelling the interrelationship of risks for green supply chain management adoption: a DEMATEL approach

The present paper provides an analysis of architecture of risks for green supply chain management (GSCM) implementation in Indian paper industries. Literature and opinions of the industrial experts are used to construct the conceptual framework of risks for green supply chain management in an Indian paper industry. The objectives of this study are to analyse and identify the interrelationship between the risks for the GSCM in Indian paper industries perspective. With the literature survey and interaction with industrial experts, 32 risks under six categories were identified and with further interaction with experts 20 risks were considered for Indian paper industry perspective. Then the decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method is applied on the selected risks and key risks are found. The analysis indicates that industries need to develop better supplier relationships in order to minimise the environmental impact of a product. The findings of the study could be helpful for the industry to manage the risks and successfully implement green supply chain activities in the business.

Environmental Issues in Supply Chain Management using MCDM Tool - An Example from Mining Industry

Green supply chain management is being concerned for both development and eminent difficulties are observed through supply chain mining activities. In Mining Industry, All the exercises engaged with extraction, generation, circulation add to ecological concerns. The ecological and health problem are still now prevailing due to uncaring in green supply chain activities. In our thesis the environmental problems are categorized as main factors and sub factors by collecting opinion from industrial experts & reputed literature survey. The main factors and sub- factors are rated and evaluated by one of the multi criteria decision making tool (MCDM) i.e Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (ANP). According to AHP, the main factors and sub factors are rated and arranged as more affecting factor to environment based on global value attained. As the result, it was found that the most influencing factors are Impact on land and its sub factors.

THE EVALUATION OF GREEN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT EFFORTS OF TURKISH FIRMS

Environmental threats like the devastating impacts of climate change and scarcity of resources require companies to operate in a more eco-friendly way and to take the necessary precautions to preserve the environment. In this context, achieving the profit and market share targets and eliminating their environmental risks and negative effects simultaneously pave the way for the effective management of the supply chains. Green supply chain management (GSCM) aiming at the integration of environmental thinking into supply chain management processes like product design, material procurement and selection, production process, delivery of the final product to the consumer, as well as the management of end-of-life is crucial to increase their environmental efficiency. In this regard, The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) emerges as one of the most important efforts to accelerate viable solutions for companies and their supply chains against climate change. Within the scope of the project, the progress of Turkish firms’ actions against climate change has been surveyed. Thus, the objective of the current study is to determine the level of the green supply chain activities, and evaluate the adequacy of the current efforts of the firms which responded to the CDP 2017 climate change survey in Turkey and are listed in the industrial category in Istanbul Stock Exchange (BIST) 100. Content analysis will be conducted to analyze the sustainability and/or annual reports of the firms based on the GSCM theoretical framework of Islam et al. (2017). It is hoped that this study will serve as a road map for firms in Turkey in both means of obtaining the gaps in their GSCM efforts and the activities and operations needed to close those gaps.

Improving sustainable development and firm performance in emerging economies by implementing green supply chain activities

AbstractThe concept of green supply chain management (GrSCM) and sustainable development is still thought to be in the initial phases in the academic and research arena especially in Asian emerging economies. This study adopts a more holistic approach toward investigating the influential power of GrSCM on firm performance measures with a mediating role of investment recovery and competitiveness. The current study serves as an initiative to identify if the association between investment recovery and firm performance measures is mediated by competitiveness. Data were collected from 272, ISO (14001) certified textile firms based in Pakistan, and the theoretical model was assessed using partial least square structural equation modeling. Underpinning the resource dependence theory, the statistical results reveal that GrSCM practices positively impact firm performances whereas investment recovery acts as a strong mediator between intraorganizational green activities and company's performance.

Performance modeling and benchmarking of green supply chain management

PurposeBased on the existing literature in the field of green supply chain management (GSCM), the purpose of this paper is to find essential to conceptualize and develop an efficient appraisement platform for the purpose of benchmarking green alternative in supply chain network.Design/methodology/approachThe authors explored multiple approaches, i.e. Višekriterijumsko kompromisno rangiranje (VIKOR), simple additive weighting (SAW) and grey relational analysis (GRA) by amalgamating fuzzy sets theory to select the most appropriate alternative for GSCM. The work is supported by triangular fuzzy number sets to choose the green alternative industry among available industries, while dealing with the uncertainty and vagueness in GSCM. A case study is exposed to identify strong and weak indices and to exhibit the feasibility of the proposed work.FindingsIt is requisite by the managers of many firms to identify the strong and weak indices relating their firms. Thus, the authors presented an approach for measuring and appraising the performance of the selected green alternative by determining the strong and weak indices. The presented work illustrates the performance measurement model that identifies comprehensive GSCM practices of the firms. The presented work incorporates green supply chain activities to support environmental sustainability throughout the supply chain.Research limitations/implicationsGSCM is necessary to the firms, as it considers impact onto the environment due to their supply chain activities. The authors build decision support system to facilitate the managers of various firms for modeling green practices in their decision making. The authors attempt to devise a conceptual framework linked with knowledge-based theory.Originality/valueThe authors conceptualized VIKOR, SAW and GRA methodology to rank and benchmark the green performance of distinguish alternative industries among available industries. Additionally, the performance measurement model for the selected significant green alternative is presented for determining the strong and weak indices.

Application of green collaboration operation on network industry

Traditional information system and managerial mechanism cannot meet the new environment protection regulations; therefore, a new solution must be set up, else it may run the risk of losing the market and the value of product brand.This research focuses on the solutions provided by the network and communication industry, manufacture of the green products, and the establishment of a Webbased green collaboration management system, which incorporates the environment protection requests into the product development and green supply chain activities. There are three goals: (1) For the design of green products, green components and product management are set up for the purpose of de-toxin and ease of disassemble; (2) For the green supply chain, the management of hazardous substances, product recycle and disassemble are set up; (3) For the product recycling management, the recycling information is feedback for the product update and collaboration operation. The result of research can provide information for the integration of workflow and information system currently in use, provide RoHS and WEEE management solutions, and set up green collaboration information system, so that green products, brand leadership, and environment protection endeavor can be assured.

Developing performance management systems for the green supply chain

As ‘green’ issues continue to become a global concern in the manufacturing supply chain, developing appropriate performance measurement systems for specific supply chains is imperative. Various green supply chain management strategies have been proposed in different contexts. On the other hand, a number of performance management systems (PMS) have been proposed. However, given the variations in the contexts of the available green strategies and the performance measurement approaches, selecting or developing suitable performance measures and the ensuing PMS under a given supply chain context is not trivial. The purpose of this study is to develop a structured taxonomic approach to developing PMS under various green supply chain conditions, contexts, and business objectives. Therefore, we (i) explore extant empirical studies on green supply chain activities and environmental management, (ii) develop a taxonomy of green supply chain strategies, (iii) derive a structured approach to developing green performance management systems, and (iv) provide a taxonomic performance measurement framework consisting of environmental, economic, and social performance metrics. Unlike past studies, the taxonomic framework forms a practical platform to assist decision makers when developing a suitable set of performance measures and the ultimate PMS while considering the particular context of specific green strategies under which the PMS is supposed to operate.

Is environmental management an economically sustainable business?

This paper investigates whether environmental management is an economically sustainable business. While firms invest in green production and green supply chain activities with the primary purpose of reducing their environmental impact, the reciprocal relationships with economic performance need to be clarified. Would firms and suppliers adjust their environmental strategies if the higher economic value that environmental management generates is reinvested in greening actions? We found out that environmental management positively influences economic performance as second order (long term) target, to be reached conditioned by higher environmental performance; in addition, firms can increase their performance if they reinvest the higher economic value gained through environmental management in green practices: While investing in environmental management programs is a short term strategy, economic rewards can be obtained only with some delays. Consequently, environmental management is an economically sustainable business only for patient firms. In the evaluation of these reciprocal relationships, we discovered that green supply chain initiatives are more effective and more economically sustainable than internal actions.

Developing green supply chain management strategies: A taxonomic approach

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to explore the empirical green supply chain activities found in the literature, and to develop a taxonomic framework that can be used for formulating appropriate strategies for green supply chains based on characteristic dimensions for the green supply chain. Design/methodology/approach: The taxonomic framework is developed through (i) analysis of green supply chain activities found in existing empirical work or case studies recorded in the literature, (ii) identification of key dimensions that influence green supply chain management strategies, and (iii) development of a taxonomic scheme for selecting or developing green strategies. Findings: The paper finds that this study yielded a set of three characteristic dimensions that influence strategic green supply chain management, and a guided structured approach for selecting appropriate green strategies, providing useful managerial insights.
