PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA COUNTING BOX PADA PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA MATERI PENJUMLAHAN DAN PENGURANGAN KELAS 1 SEKOLAH DASAR

The aim of this research is to find out the process of developing media, as well as the level of validity and practicality of counting box media. This research uses research and development (RD) methods with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) development model. Quantitative data was obtained from material and media validation questionnaires as well as teacher and student responses. Qualitative data consists of input from material and media validators regarding the products being developed. The research was conducted in February 2024 in Class I SDN 103/II Tanjung Agung. The material expert validation results showed a percentage score of 87.5% in the very valid category, while the media expert validation results showed a percentage score of 92.5% in the very valid category. The teacher's response shows a percentage score of 95% in the very practical category, and the student response shows a percentage score of 95.60% in the very practical category. Therefore, based on the findings of this research, it can be concluded that the counting box for teaching addition and subtraction material in first grade elementary schools is very valid and practical. The results also show that the counting box is suitable for use

PENGARUH MEDIA KARTU DOMINO TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN HOTS PADA MATA PELAJARAN MATEMATIKA KELAS IV SEKOLAH DASAR

This study seeks to prove whether or not there is an influence of domino card media on higher order thinking abilities (HOTS) in Mathematics subjects in class IV elementary school. A quasi-experimental design employing a quantitative method was utilized. A posttest-only non-equivalent control group design was the research design applied. Class IV students, totaling 64, were the sample used in this research, divided into two classes: the experimental class and the control class. The method of data collecting uses saturated sampling. Data collection is carried out through test instruments that include HOTS indicators. Testing shows that there is an influence on students' higher order thinking skills (HOTS) between the control class and the experimental class. According to data analysis, it is proven that there is an influence of the implementation of domino cards on HOTS abilities in fourth grade elementary school mathematics lessons.

Problem-Based Learning Model Assisted by Graphic Media in Poetry Text Learning for Fourth Grade Elementary School Students

This research aims to explain the problem-based learning model assisted by graphic media in learning poetry texts for fourth-grade elementary school students, as well as the process of implementing it in learning. The research was conducted in the 2022/2023 Academic Year, Even Semester, at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Zaytun, Sandrem Village, Gantar District, Indramayu Regency, with fourth-grade students in West Java Province. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method. The research design used is research and development (Research and Development) with the ADDIE model. The steps/phases of development include: Analysis, Design, Development or Production, Implementation or Delivery, and Evaluation. Data collection methods include interviews, questionnaires, observations, written tests, and performance assessments. The results of the research show that the design of a problem-based learning model assisted by graphic media in learning poetry texts for fourth-grade elementary school students is a new learning model developed from a problem-based learning model associated with graphic media, making learning more meaningful. The assessment results of the learning model design and media use were 70.5%, categorized as suitable for use. The learning media expert assessment results of 80% indicate that the learning media is suitable for use. Meanwhile, based on the results of the implementation of the problem-based learning model assisted by graphic media in learning poetry texts, the assessment results were 38 out of 44, or 86.4%, indicating that the implementation of the learning model was very suitable for use. Based on the data above, it is evident that a problem-based learning model assisted by graphic media in learning poetry texts for fourth-grade elementary school students is highly needed.

Building Science Teacher Leaders for Indigenous Schools: Lessons from a Science Professional Development Workshop in Nepal

This is a case study of a science professional development workshop in Nepal with 17 teacher participants from four public schools. These schools mainly served Indigenous students in elementary, middle, and high school (Grades 9 and 10). The workshop focused on educating and building science teacher leaders for culturally relevant teaching and antiracist pedagogy by valuing and integrating Indigenous leadership practices and local knowledge. The teachers participated in a 2-day workshop co-organized by the local district education office and the local high school and led by the high school principal and a U.S.-based university faculty. Data were collected during and after the workshop through field notes, audio/video recordings of some sections of the workshop, and focus group interviews with a select group of participating teachers. The analysis of the data showed (a) struggles and opportunities to prioritize Indigenous science knowledge and Tharu sociocultural connections, (b) teachers seeking affirmation from principals to be science teacher leaders modeled on Indigenous leadership values, and (c) greater willingness for culturally relevant pedagogy among female and Indigenous teachers. The hope is that this paper will contribute to the value of a science teacher leadership professional development program (PD) in building awareness among science teachers about the value of culturally appropriate antiracist pedagogy in science teacher leaders. In addition, the PD also shows that science teacher leaders in Indigenous schools would benefit from the Indigenous relational model of leadership in leading their peers and students in antiracist and culturally relevant science teaching and learning. Finally, the study seems to indicate that a successful science teacher leader always incorporates local Indigenous community values, knowledge, and practices.

DEVELOPMENT OF POP-UP BOOK MEDIA IN THEMATIC LEARNING IN GRADE III SDN 101921 BERINGIN

This study aims to: (1) produce Pop-Up Book learning media in the Thematic learning of food production technology development material in grade III SD Negeri 101921 Beringin, (2) find out the feasibility and practicality of Pop-Up Book learning media in the Thematic learning of food production technology development material in grade III SD Negeri 101921 Beringin which is valid from the results of feasibility validation by material experts, media experts, learning experts, and student responses. This research is a type of Research and Development (R&D) research with a 4D model developed by Thiagarajan (1974) which includes four steps, namely: the stages of define, design, development, and disseminate. The instruments used to collect data are interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. Based on the assessment of the validation results by material experts, 96% scores, media experts get 97.3% and learning experts get 93.3%, resulting in Pop-Up Book products that are very suitable for use for third grade elementary school students. Therefore, from the data from the validation results of the three validators, it can be concluded that the Pop-Up Book media in the Thematic learning of the Food Production Technology Development material was declared valid and there was no revision by experts, so it was declared very suitable to be used as a teaching material in learning.

Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Berbantuan Alat Peraga Big Book terhadap Keterampilan Menulis Siswa Kelas III SD

This research aims to describe the influence of the CIRC learning model assisted by Big Book teaching aids on the writing skills of class III students at SD Negeri 17 Singkawang. The type of research was quantitative research using the Quasi Experimental method, Posttest Only Nonequivalent Groups Design. The population of this study was all class III students consisting of classes IIIA, IIIB, and IIIC, totaling 86 students. The sample in this study was selected using a purposive sampling technique consisting of class IIIB as the control class and IIIC as the experimental class, each with 28 students. The data collection technique used an essay test technique which contains indicators of writing skills and observation techniques for learning implementation. The data analysis technique used a independent two sample t-test, effect size, and percentage of learning implementation. The results of the research showed that (1) there was differences in the writing skills of third grade elementary school students between classes that use the CIRC model assisted by Big Book teaching aids and classes that use direct learning with the calculation results showing namely 14.068 > 1.674; (2) the CIRC learning model assisted by Big Book teaching aids had a high influence on the writing skills of third grade elementary school students with an effect size calculation result of 2.36; (3) implementation of the CIRC learning model assisted by Big Book teaching aids in learning energy source material with a percentage of 92.71% in very good criteria. Thus, it could be concluded that there was an influence of the CIRC model assisted by Big teaching aids on the writing skills of class III students at SD Negeri 17 Singkawang.

Model Pembelajaran Discovery Learning dengan Pendekatan CRT untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis dan Literasi Membaca

Preliminary research obtained data that there were fifth grade elementary school students who had levels of critical thinking and reading literacy in the low category. These two abilities are very important for students' academic development, so they need to be improved. The aims of this research are: 1) improve critical thinking skills; 2) improve reading literacy skills; 3) know the value of increasing critical thinking skills, and; 4) know the value of increasing reading literacy skills. The research uses the classroom action research (PTK) method with the Stringer model. The research was carried out over two cycles through 3 stages, namely look, think, and act. The number of samples in cycles I and II was 26 children. Data collection techniques were carried out using tests and non-tests, while the instruments were in the form of questions and questionnaires. The research resulted in: 1) students' critical thinking skills and reading literacy increasing; 2) Critical thinking skills in cycle I had an average of 68 or in the medium category and the average in cycle II was 75 or in the high category; 3) Reading literacy skills in cycles I and II each have an average of 70 in the medium category and 78 in the high category; 4) students' critical thinking skills reach a minimum of 54% in the high category; 4) students' reading literacy skills reach a minimum of 65% in the high category. These data have reached indicators of research success, thus confirming that the discovery learning model with the CRT approach is able to improve critical thinking skills and reading literacy.

Socio-demographic and other factors contributing to excessive leisure screen time in preadolescent children.

Excessive screen use in early school age is associated with worsened health habits and negative child development in later age. We aimed to assess the time spent on modern and traditional screen-based devices and examine its associations with socio-demographic characteristics. This population-based cross-sectional observation study was conducted in Czechia, Slovakia and Finland between April and June 2021. Participants (N = 1,915) were parents/caregivers of children attending elementary school grades 1 to 3, selected by stratified random sampling. Children's daily leisure screen time (LST) based on parental reports was the main outcome. Descriptive statistics, mean comparison and linear regression analysis were used for the analysis. The average daily LST was found to be as high as 3.5 hours and significantly associated with most socio-demographic variables. Eighty percent of children exceeded the threshold of two hours of LST per day, which was formerly introduced by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The most important predictor of LST in children was having their screen-based device(s) for their exclusive personal use (EPU). Linear regression with all predictors assessed together confirmed the significant effect of the screen-based devices' EPU, the child's sex and grade, the child's birth order and the parent's education, even when controlled for media parenting practices. Given the widespread availability of smartphones for exclusive personal use among young children, the regulation of EPU and the reinforcement of effective media parenting practices, particularly in families with lower education and income, are critical public health strategies to mitigate the negative impact of excessive screen time on child development and overall well-being.

Determinants of parents’ readiness for face-to-face learning among elementary school children during the new normal

Introduction: This study aimed to identify factors influencing the readiness of parents with elementary school-age children for face-to-face learning using the Health Promotion Model (HPM). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The study population consisted of parents of elementary school students in Surabaya. A purposive sampling method was used to select 395 respondents. The independent variables included motivation, parental knowledge, perceived benefits, perceptions of barriers, self-efficacy, interpersonal factors, situational factors, and commitment. The dependent variable was parental behavior in face-to-face learning readiness. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using a logistic regression test, with a significance level of α ≤ 0.05. Results: Most parents were 37 years old, and children in the 5th grade of elementary school. Most of the parents' motivation was in the sufficient category (57%). The parents’ knowledge of COVID-19 was good (66.8%). Most parents had a good perception of benefits (68.4%), and the perception of barriers was sufficient (59.7%). Good self-efficacy was observed in only 49% of cases, and interpersonal and situational factors accounted for 99.7% and 100%, respectively. Meanwhile, regarding parental readiness for face-to-face learning, the majority exhibited good behavior (96.2%). The factors that influenced parental behavior in face-to-face learning readiness were parental knowledge (0.010), perceived benefits (0.019), and commitment (0.029). Conclusions: Good knowledge, perceived benefits, and parental commitment are factors that influence parents' readiness to participate in face-to-face learning. STEM-PjBL Learning Model To Enhance Critical Thinking Skills of Students on Magnets, Electricity, and Technology

This study aims to enhance the critical thinking skills of fifth grade elementary school students on topics of magnet, electricity, and technology through the STEM-PjBL model. The study involved 20 students. The research design employed was classroom action research conducted in three cycles. Qualitative data analysis techniques were utilized. The analysis of students' critical thinking skills focused on five indicators: Identify Question at Issue, conceptual understanding, ideas connection, assumptions, and inferences, with five levels of achievement. The results showed an improvement in critical thinking skills, with 75% of students' responses at a very good level of critical thinking, 35% at the mastering level in cycles I and II, and 45% in cycle III, along with 35% at the competent level. Meanwhile, those at the developing level were 15% in cycles I and II, increasing to 20% in cycle III. The remainder was 5% at the emerging stage in cycle I and 10% in cycle II. There were 5% at the absent level in cycle I. Therefore, the STEM-PjBL model can be considered an effective approach for students to enhance their critical thinking skills in IPAS learning and to support their active engagement in the classroom.

A case study of how first-year early childhood teachers figure their roles within the profession and whether to remain in it

ABSTRACT The first year of teaching can be overwhelming, and many early educators in elementary schools located in the United States often choose to exit the classroom. Despite various suggestions for reversing this trend, many early childhood teachers working in elementary schools still leave teaching as their profession’s complexity continues to increase. Here, we examine how first-year early childhood teachers whom we have followed since they enrolled in their teacher education program figured their roles within the profession and whether they thought they would remain in it. Through this analysis, we illuminate the complexity of the world of teaching in which these beginning teachers figured their identities as professionals, and we offer suggestions for teacher educators to employ figured worlds as a construct to support novice as well as preservice teachers as they navigate the realities and unexpected challenges of teaching in the early childhood grades in elementary schools.

The Effect of Children’s Sleep Problems on Problem Behaviors: The Serial Mediating Effect of Executive Function and Emotion Regulation

Objectives: This study explains the process by which sleep problems affect problem behaviors in early elementary school children and explores the roles of executive function and emotion regulation, which are concepts related to cognitive or emotional regulation.Methods: This study’s participants consisted of 283 children in first to third grades of elementary school. Questionnaires asked mothers about their children’s sleep problems, executive function, emotion regulation, and problem behaviors. Model 6 of PROCESS macro version 3.4 was used to analyze the collected data.Results: First, children’s sleep problems had a directly positive effect on problem behaviors. Second, children’s sleep problems had a negative effect on executive function, and executive function had a negative effect on problem behaviors. Third, children’s sleep problems had a negative effect on emotion regulation, and emotion regulation had a negative effect on problem behaviors. Finally, children’s sleep problems had a negative effect on executive function; executive function had a positive effect on emotion regulation; and emotion regulation had a negative effect on problem behaviors. Bootstrapping tests revealed that the mediating effect of executive function, the mediating effect of emotion regulation, and the serial mediating effect of executive function and emotion regulation were all significant in the relationship between children’s sleep problems and problem behaviors.Conclusion: This study expands on studies that revealed the mediating effect of executive function or emotion regulation in the relationship between sleep problems and problem behaviors. In other words, by confirming the serial mediating effect of executive function and emotion regulation, this study expands our understanding of the mechanisms by which children’s sleep problems affect problem behaviors.

Low Class Primary School Students' Handwriting Readability Using Behaviorism Theory

Handwriting is a typical work result expressed in the form of letters, symbols and numbers. This research uses qualitative research methods with a case study design. The aim of the research was to determine the legibility of class 1 students' handwriting. The data collection instruments used were in-depth interviews, observation and document study. Researchers validated the data by triangulating data collection techniques and triangulating data sources. The results of the research are that behaviorism theory provides an understanding of how the legibility of lower grade elementary school students' handwriting develops through learning, experience and reinforcement. However, other factors also need to be considered in understanding the legibility of students' handwriting.

JOGOS DE LUTA CORPORAL COMO POSSIBILIDADE DE ENSINO NA EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA: UM ARTEFATO PEDAGÓGICO NO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL

This experience report originates from Physical Education classes with a 5th-grade class at a rural school in the Federal District, located in the peripheral Administrative Region of São Sebastião. The experiment aimed to create, implement, and evaluate a Pedagogical Artifact for the fifth grade of elementary school, incorporating elements of body combat, such as conditional principles and classification by approach groups. This provided students with the opportunity to experience the diversity of content and motor actions related to the theme through playful games. The methodology of Educational Design was used, resulting in a pedagogical artifact for teaching body combat. The application was monitored through participant observation, as described by Gil (2002), along with field notebook entries and photographic records. The results showed that teaching and learning occurred through playful experiences in body combat games, as well as reflections in discussion circles, enabling students to initiate into the world of body combat before specialization.

The Implementation of Course Review Hooray to Teach Vocabulary at Elementary School in Mojokerto

This research aims to describe the implementation of the Course Review Hooray (CRH) method in teaching vocabulary and to see students' perceptions of the use Course Review Hooray (CRH) in their class. This research was based on the problem of students lack of vocabulary and motivation in learning vocabulary. The design of this research is qualitative approach. The Participants in this research were 28 students from the fourth grade of elementary school in Jrambe, Dlanggu, Mojokerto Regency. The data was collected through observation and questionnaires. The result of the first research question is the implementation of Course Review Hooray (CRH) in the classroom. There are fourth steps for the implementatition. The first, students are instructed to form groups with a total of 5 students in each group. Second, each group is given a card that is used to collect points. Third, when the teacher throws questions related to transportation material and if anyone can answer the question, the students raise their hands,and then they answer the question. Fourth, if the group's answer is correct, then 1 group cheered together “Hooraay” and followed by teacher giving points to the group's card in the form of a stamp. The group that gets the most points will get a reward at the end of the lesson. Based on the results of student perception from the implementation of Course Review Hooray (CRH), most of students feel this method is exciting, fun, the class atmosphere becomes lively, and they understand the material better if they use Course Review Hooray because it is challenging as they should collect points and they are actively involved in the learning process.

RME Educational Game Based on Android Mobile to Increase Students’ Mathematical Understanding Ability

This research aims to: 1) create an RME educational game based on Android about integers called Story Math Game as an edutainment medium for 1st grade elementary school students that contains stories about basic concepts of counting (addition and subtraction), practice questions, and learning evaluations (with various varying levels of difficulty) with the characteristic of using real problems; 2) assess whether the game is suitable for learning mathematics; and 3) describe the increase in students' mathematical understanding abilities who have used RME educational games in learning. This research is research and development (R&D) with a 4D development model. There are four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data analysis techniques include expert assessment (feasibility test and media quality test) and development testing (one-group pretestposttest design experiment). The feasibility of the RME educational game was evaluated by media and materials experts. The research results showed that 1) educational games reached a feasibility level of 75.00% with good criteria from media experts and 82.32% with good criteria from material experts, 2) the media was tested publicly by 100 parents of students, and the test results The public obtained application quality results of 83.20% with good criteria, and 3) development testing resulted in an increase in the mathematical understanding abilities of 1 st grade elementary school students. Based on the results of the data obtained, it appears that the RME educational game is suitable for use as a mathematics learning medium and can increase the students’ mathematical understanding abilities in 1 st grade elementary school.

Exploring meaning: an analysis of denotative diction and connotative diction in Indonesian language textbook stories for second grade elementary school

This study examines denotative and connotative diction in Indonesian textbooks for grade II primary schools under the Merdeka Curriculum. The main objective of this study is to assess how denotative and connotative word choice can affect the understanding of diction in primary school students' stories. Through the content analysis method, this study evaluated various stories in the textbook, focusing on word choice and its influence on teaching effectiveness. Denotative diction and connotative diction were chosen as the objects of analysis because of their critical role in helping students understand literal texts, which is the foundation for further learning at an early age. Increased consistency of diction use across all subject matter to support learning effectiveness at the primary level. It is hoped that these findings can be used as a reference for curriculum development and the preparation of better Indonesian language textbooks in the future, in accordance with the principles of Merdeka Curriculum which supports inclusive and comprehensive education. The conclusion of the study shows that the use of words with clear and unambiguous denotative meanings tends to make it easier for students to understand the concepts taught. Through connotative diction learners can develop analytical skills that are important in reading and understanding texts.
