The Effect Using Animated Video as Teaching Media

Teaching writing is not easy. Teacher needs to think the appropriate and effective medium that will be able to attract the students’ interest. Due to this case, an animated video was chosen as a medium to facilitate students' learning process to be more interactive and attract students' interest for composing, particularly to write Descriptive Texts. The research explored the use animated videos to teach descriptive text in grade seventh academic year 2023/2024 at MTsN 6 Tulungagung. The type of experiment utilized is a Quantitative with Pre-Experiment Designs. The sample consisted of 31 students as control group. There are three steps conducting this research: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The expert formed the validation of the questions. Based of the data analysis results, the pre-experimental class’s mean scores 76.35 and 86.32 in the post-test. Researchers found that the score of Sig. (2-Tailed) is 0.001 less than 0.05, therefore H0 is denied by acceptance of Ha. So in this case it was concluded that the differences in the analysis of the mean between the results of the pre and post-test meant that there were effects of using the animated video as the medium of learning in writing Descriptive Text in class VII in the 2023/2024 school year at MTsN 6 Tulungagung.

Enhancing the conceptual comprehension of astronomy for grade seventh students using multimedia

This study was motivated by the absence of studies examining the effectiveness and students' perceptions toward multimedia in learning concepts in astronomy related to the Bhutanese context. The study used an explanatory sequential mixed-method research approach with a pre-test and post-test experiment on a single group. The study examined the effectiveness of multimedia in learning astronomy concepts. Additionally, it also explored the perceptions of students toward the use of multimedia in learning astronomy concepts. The participants consist of 44-grade seventh students. The quantitative data was collected using an astronomy conceptual test. The qualitative data were collected from semi-structured interviews conducted with 12 students. Quantitative data was analyzed employing histograms and paired samples t-tests. To generate themes for the qualitative data, Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis was used in the study. The semi-structured interview data were analyzed to get the students' perceptions of multimedia. The quantitative result indicated that after the multimedia intervention, the performance on the astronomy conceptual test significantly improved. Moreover, students' perceptions were positive towards multimedia. However, students face certain challenges such as time constraints and being unable to discern appropriate information for astronomy concepts. It was recommended that multimedia could be used to learn concepts in astronomy.

Effectiveness of Using Quizizz Media as an Evaluation of Explanatory Text Learning for Students in Junior High School

The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of employing Quizizz as a learning tool in enhancing the engagement and academic performance of eighth-grade students in comprehending explanatory texts. This research used quasi-experimental methodologies, specifically utilising a pre-test and post-test non-equivalent control group design. The study's population consisted of all pupils in the eighth grade. This study employed purposive sampling procedures to choose a total of 44 students from grade seventh in junior high school. The results of the study showed that the use of the Quizizz platform in evaluation activities was in the very good criteria (SB) of 55.91%, and student responses to evaluation activities were in the good category (B) of 44.01%. In the learning outcomes, students showed that the experimental class pretest data got an average of 65.05 and a posttest score of 82.10. In the control class, the pretest results got an average of 62.57, and the posttest results were 76.98. This shows that the average value result of the experimental class is higher than that of the control class. In calculating the hypothesis test sig 0.032 0.05, the hypothesis (H0) was rejected and (Ha) accepted. Based on the n-gain test results 56.7% which was included in the effective category. It can be concluded that the application of Quizizz media is effective in increasing interest and learning outcomes in evaluation activities for students.

Analysis Ecological Literacy Skill through Implementation of Learning Instruction Based on Local Potential “Pulau Kembang”

Ecological literacy needs to be trained for students so that the formation of human characters who care about the environment can be formed. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the ability of ecological literacy by implementing learning instructions based on local potential in eco-system materials and their components. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The population in this research is the student in grade seventh, and the total number of samples in this research is 60 students from junior high school in Banjarmasin. Ecological literacy questions consist of ten multiple-choice questions. The level of ecological literacy students can be identified with quantitative data that have been obtained and then converted into qualitative data (interval data). Based on the result, the first and second indicators get the high categorize with an average of 60.68% and 66.67%. The third until five hands get the medium to categorize with each average is 43.44%; 46.67%, and 56.67%. The result of the ecological literacy test can be used to develop learning instruction that is integrated with local potential.

Spelling Bee Games to Increase Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at the Islamic-Affiliated Middle Schools: An Action Research

Spelling bee game can be considered as a method to teach vocabulary mastery for junior high school using a game. The students not only memorize the words abut also can spell and pronounce them correctly. There are problems faced by the students particularly the seventh grade students of this research location such as the difficulty to understand the form of English words and to pronounce them. The objective of this research was to solve those problems in order to increase the students’ mastery of vocabulary by applying spelling bee game. The research method used was a classroom action research by fulfilling planning, acting, observing, and reflecting in each cycle. It was accomplished in two cycles since the determined achievement was not obtained in the first cycle. The subject involved was 35 students of grade seventh. Qualitative data were gathered by administering interview, observation, and questionnaire while quantitative data were obtained from students’ vocabulary mean score. The qualitative data analysis from questionnaire showed that there was increasing of positive responses (23.97%) while observation and interview showed that the students were more motivated in engaging the teaching-learning process through spelling bee game. The quantitative data analysis showed that there was increasing on students’ vocabulary mastery seen from the increasing of mean score from 25.07% in orientation test to 88.57% in post-test cycle II. There were 31 students in post-test cycle II passed the criteria. Thus, the criteria of success were achieved. It can be concluded that using spelling bee game can be an alternative method to increase the vocabulary mastery in an enjoyable and fun atmosphere.

IMPROVING VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH SAY STRUCTURE CONTEXT DICTIONARY TECHNIQUE (SSCD)

The objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of Say Structure Context Dictionary in learning vocabulary at the grade seventh students of SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani Palu. This research used pre-experimental research design. The sample of this research was the grade seventh Lamalonda with 21 students that selected by using purposive sampling. The data was collected by administering a vocabulary test conducted before and after the treatment. The result of pre-test and post-test showed that the mean score of pre-test was 32.70 and the mean score of post-test was 76.19. The result of data analysis showed that the t-counted value (4.30) was higher than t-table value (1.725) by applying 0.05 level of significance and 20 degree of freedom (df). In conclusion, the application of Say Structure Context Dictionary in teaching vocabulary is effective improving vocabulary mastery at the grade seventh students’ of SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani.

STUDENTS’ ABILITIES IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT GRADE SEVENTH STUDENTS OF SMP DAR AL-FALAH IN TANJUNGBALAI

<p>Writing is the most important skill that we should consider because the student must know how to write a text grammatically and correctly. Descriptive text is a piece of text that describes a place, person, or thing. This research was aimed to analysis of students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text at grade seventh students of SMP Daar Al-Falah in Tanjngbalai.. In this research, researcher uses the quantitative description data. The most problems faced by the students were grammar and organization with a total mean 75, 18. And based on the result of this research, there are 16 students who able in writing descriptive text by percentage 73%. And there are 6 students who unable in writing descriptive text by percentage 27, 27%. The Effect of Picture Teaching Media to the Ability of Grade 7th Students in English Vocabulary Mastery of SMP Yayasan Perguruan Keluarga (YPK) Pematangsiantar

English is an international language that use by many people in this world. Human used English to make communication in daily life. It can help human to make connection with other people, nation country in this world to get information. As we know in learning English there are four skills, they are: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Vocabulary is also an essential skill for learning to read, speak, write and listen. Without sufficient vocabulary, people cannot communicate and express their feeling both in form of spoken and written effectively. Nowadays, the students must improve their vocabulary because in their school, they are not only learning vocabulary in English lesson, but also in other books, there are also some English vocabularies that must be known by students. In improving student vocabulary, the students need some method or technique. The used picture of media will be needed to help the students in teaching-learning vocabulary. Picture is one of visual material in teaching that well established. This researcher experience at learning practice program in SMP YPK Pematangsiantar, many of students were lack of vocabularies.The students had many problems in mastering English words and this situation made them to be lazy to study English. One of the strategies can be used to solve the problems in teaching English is using media. As what have been mentioned previously, the purpose of this research was to find out the effect by uding Picture media on students’ ability in english vocabulary at grade seventh SMP YPK. Researcher chose two classes as the sample that divided into two groups are VII-6 as Experimental Group and VII-4 as Control Group. From all the analyzed data, it is found that there was a significant using Picture media on students’ ability in English Vocabulary at grade seventh SMP YPK Pematangsiantar. It shows that the result of t-test was higher than t-table (5.02>1.67), therefore the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.Based on the result of the research, it was concluded that by using Picture media on students’ ability in English Vocabulary is most effective.

Evaluasi Penerapan Problem-based Learning dalam Mengatasi Kesulitan Konsentrasi saat Pembelajaran

<p>The Merdeka Curriculum adds significant changes to the field of education. After the Information and Communication Technology subject in the 2013 curriculum changed to ICT Guidance in the independent curriculum, the Information and Communication Technology subject appeared under the name Informatics. Informatics still needs to be discovered, especially for grade 7 students who have just entered junior high school. Based on observations made when the teacher gave material about Informatics, students needed to be more focused and active in learning. The teacher has yet to involve students in their learning so that students do not concentrate on learning. However, distractions arise, such as students talking to their friends, not concentrating on learning and often being allowed to leave class. So that efforts are needed so that students concentrate when learning takes place. Students are expected to be actively involved in learning activities by concentrating on learning.</p><p>For this reason, researchers used a problem-based learning model using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. This study aims to evaluate whether the application of the Problem-Based Learning method can overcome concentration difficulties while learning in grade seventh of students of a junior high school at Blora, Central Java. This research is classroom action research with research subjects consisting of 28 class VII students consisting of 13 male students and 14 female students.</p>

The Effect of Portfolio-based Assessment and Language Processing on Acquiring Second Language


 
 
 
 Only little research has explored how information from alternative assessments especially portfolios might be best utilized in developing second language acquisition processes of a single individual student’s comprehension of simple present tense as one of grammar aspects. To understand these ideas more complete, a greater initial has to be set on a study. In addition, there must be a more prominent center on how teachers can implement alternative assessment especially portfolio assessment and how the information from these assessments can be utilized to inform and direct the learning process. Using mix method design, this study examined the language processing of two students (i.e., a high-ability learner and a low-ability learner) studying at grade seventh at MTsN 4 surabaya. According to the findings, There was difference in the degree to which the high ability student accurately noticed the answers of the questions (the use of s/es in simple present tense), rather than the low ability student. Both low ability and high ability learners could recognize the learning gaps before and after the learning process, and they notice their development system towards the target language. However, the high ability student performed better.
 
 
 

Analysis of Character Education Value on English Textbook Students Grade Seventh Of SMPN 10 Parepare

Character values should be taken into consideration in teaching and learning material. Textbook is one of media that can be used in teaching character education. The purpose of this research were to find out what character education values in English textbook students for grade seventh entitled “When English Rings A Bells”. This research was focused on revealing the Character Educational Value based on The Ministry of Education and Culture within the textbooks. This research used content analysis study to know the implemented EFL textbook. The procedure in data collection were table checklist and documentation. Technique of data analysis is data collection, data reduction, data display and conclussion. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion that has been described shows that Character Educational value in English Textbook entitled When English Rings A Bell, The value of Friendship/Communicative was the most Common Value With 21%. Then it was followed by Independent with 17%. The other valaue such as Religious 12%. Hard work value contains 7%. Discipline and Social Care value with 5%. Curiosity value with 4.6%. Creativity, Nationalism, and Appreciation Achievement with 4.1%. Enviromental Awareness and Honesty values with 3.5%. Reading Interest value with 2.5%. Tolerance value with 2.0%.Patriotism and Responsibility value contains 1.02%. The smallest were Love and Peace value with 0.5%. These findings lead to the conclusion that the textbook contain character educational values and upcoming for the future textbooks must pay a lot more attention to the character values.

The Development of Constructivist-Based Junior High School Mathematic Worksheet (LKS) on the Polyhedron

The LKS(worksheets) that are used in schools generally only contain questions, so they have not helped the students in constructing mathematical knowledge. Therefore, constructivist-based LKS is developed for learning mathematical knowledge. This study aimed to develop constructivist-based LKS on the subject of Polyhedronand to see the validity of the produced worksheets. This research was a research development using a 4-D model. This model consists of the stages of define, design, and disseminate. Data collection was carried out through validation and trial of the developed LKS. Validation was carried out by 3 validators who are experienced in their fields and the trials were conducted on grade seventh of SMP Negeri (Public Junior High School) 1 Kubung to determine the practicality and effectiveness of the LKS. This study produced constructivist-based LKS on the subject of Polyhedron. The validity of the LKS was categorized as very valid. Validity test that was carried out consisted of several aspects, namely aspects of content / material, form / presentation and language / legibility. The validation results showed that theLKS was very valid with an average value of 3.42. The practicality test results in aspects of the attractiveness of the LKS to student interest, ease of use and content, and the efficiency of time showed this constructivist-based LKS was very practical for students and teachers with an average value of 89.14% and 79.25%.

Relationship between interference control and working memory with academic performance in high school students: The Adolescent Student Academic Performance longitudinal study (ASAP)

IntroductionThe purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between interference control and working memory with academic performance in both female and male high school students using a longitudinal design. MethodsOne hundred and eighty-seven grade seventh to ninth students (mean age: 13.1 ± 1.0 years old) from a French-Canadian high school located in Montreal, Canada, completed a 3-year prospective study. Interference control (Flanker task), working memory (N-back task) and academic performance (grades in science, mathematics, language and the overall average) were assessed every year during the 3-year study. ResultsFemale students had significantly higher grades than male students for overall average, science and language at year 1 as well as higher grades for overall average and language at year 3 (p < 0.05). However, no differences were found between genders for any measures of interference control or working memory at year 1 and 3. Furthermore, we noted that the relations between cognitive control with our academic performance measures differ according to gender. Finally, our results showed that neither interference control nor working memory seem to be the primary predictor for any of our academic performance measures in both female and male students. ConclusionsResults of the present study indicate that cognitive control measures were not able to explain the gender differences in academic performance. Our results also show that interference control and working memory were weakly related to academic performance and that these associations had a poor ability to predict variations in academic performance during a 3-year period.

The role of performance and self-assessment to determine students’ science process skills in SMP Negeri 11 Kota Tangerang Selatan

This study aims to describe the pattern of students’ scientific processes based on observations when performance appraisals are carried out. Science process skills are assessed using performance indicator instruments and supported by student self-assessment instruments. The research method used in this research is descriptive analysis. Data collection instruments in this study were observation sheets, student worksheets, and self-assessment sheets. Research subjects were 38 students of grade seventh in SMP Negeri 11 Kota Tangerang Selatan. The results of the study showed from 3 out of 10 aspects of observed skills that still score below 80%. These aspects were aspects of asking (75%); apply the concept (77.7%), and communicate the results (65.5%). However, three aspects have been in the good category. The aspects of science process skills with 100% value owned by students are aspects of prediction and hypothesis formulation. There are two aspects of science process skills that have opposite results from the results of students’ self-assessment, namely aspects of developing hypotheses and communicating. Hypothesis aspect in self-assessment has a value of 79%, this is contrary to the results of observations using performance appraisal. In addition, the aspect of communication in self-assessment also has the opposite results from observations in a performance evaluation that is equal to 89%. Even so the category of science process skills possessed by students in the assessment of performance indicators and self-assessment included in both criteria.

SPORTS ORIENTATION DURING LEARNING TEAM OR INDIVIDUAL SPORTS USING A SPORT EDUCATION MODEL

Since competition activities can improve sportsmanship, moral development, motivation, and prepare students in the "real world", competition activities (sports orientation) in physical education is very necessary. A strategy that is proposed to stimulate sports orientation in physical education in this study is a Sport Education Model (SEM). The purpose of this study was to determine the differences between team sports and individual sports when using SEM, towards sports orientation in physical education for junior high school students. The research method uses true experiments with posttest-only control group design. The participants in this study were 80 grade seventh junior high school students. Using the Sport Orientation Questionnaire (SOQ), the data was analysed using independent samples t-test. The results stated that there were significant differences between the two conditions. The findings suggests that sports orientation in SEM team sports are more influenced by goal orientation is in accord with the statement that achievement in sports competition (sports orientation) depends on goal orientation, but not at SEM individual sports.

The Influence of Learning Style on Learning Attitude with Multimedia Teaching Materials

The aim of this study is to discover the influence of multimedia materials of Taekwondo Aerobic on students’ learning attitude with diverse learning styles. Taekwondo Aerobic class is a new subject for junior high school teachers in Taiwan. The junior high school students are promoted to learn this activity to improve their health. With the advance of digital technology, multimedia-based teaching style has been emphasized and applied. Not every student handles the material well and their learning styles also influence their learning achievement. Participants were students on grade seventh and eighth. Students are divided into two groups, with one experiment group adopting multimedia-based teaching, and one control group adopting traditional teaching respectively. Students are given questionnaires after the experiment. There were 101 valid questionnaires. The results show that adopting multimedia-based teaching style promotes students’ learning attitude. Using multimedia-based teaching style has significant effects on students’ learning attitude with different learning styles in teaching Taekwondo Aerobic.

Meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Peserta Didik dalam Pembelajaran IPS (Materi Sejarah) Melalui Media Power Point di SMP Negeri 16 Kota Bogor

The purpose of this research is to know the improvement of quality learning process and learning outcomes of Social Sciences in class 7.6 through media Power Ponit. The population of this research is the grade seventh of Yunior High School are consisted 36 students, there are 17 female and 19 male students. The implementation of this research at mid semester in 2010/2011. The result of this research showed in the first cycle get the value 73,89 or completeness study of 97,22% while in the second cycle get the value 80,83 or completeness study of 100%, it means that the research is successfully. Meanwhile, the assessment of quality in learning on the first cycle is 77,50% and the second cycle is 99,17%. In the other hand, the observation result of students behavior are showed an increasing with the value of the first cycle is 69,44% and in the second cycle is get the value 100%. Based on the result of this research above, it can be conclude that the implementation of Media Power Point can improve the result in cognitive learning of Social Sciences.
