An analysis of trust governance mechanism in airline-airport relationship with resource dependence theory and transaction cost theory perspectives

Developments have transformed airport operations into more commercially focused centers in the airport sector. This situation has raised the question of how to execute interdependent airport-airline relationships. In interdependent relationships, trust-based governance is the least costly governance structure and is crucial for fostering cooperation in long-term relationships. Trust-based governance is a management approach where relationships and decisions are guided by mutual trust, transparency, and collaboration between parties. When considering the nature of the relationship, it is observed that environmental uncertainty and asset specificity are high. Transaction cost theory suggests that trust governance mechanisms can be the least costly governance structure under high uncertainty and asset specificity. Similarly, resource dependency theory indicates that in situations with high environmental uncertainty, dependencies can be managed through trust governance mechanisms. Therefore, this study analyzes the trust governance mechanism in airport-airline relationships. Drawing from the perspectives of resource dependency theory and transaction cost theory, this research analyzes the trust governance mechanism in airport-airline relationships using case studies of Turkish Airlines and Istanbul Airport relationship is governed by contract-based trust, while the Pegasus Airlines and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport relationship is based on goodwill-based trust. It can be argued that the history of the airport-airline relationship and the belief in the continuity of the relationship have a positive impact on trust.

Enabling efficient patient discharge with a mindset, toolset, and skillset framework.

33 Background: Timely access to care for patients coming through the emergency center can be achieved by efficiently discharging patients. When continued bed growth is not sustainable, improvements in team-based approaches to discharges are necessary and require a multi-pronged approach. Our institution embarked on a process improvement effort anchored on completing 1 out of 2 patients discharged by 12PM. We hypothesize that a discharge before noon will assist with getting our next patient to a bed by 2PM. We conducted a pilot on our Stem Cell Transplant units to test and enable our case for change allowing for scale and spread to other units. Methods: Our multi-pronged framework was focused on mindset, toolset, and skillset. As our first step, executive leadership set direction to achieve a shift in mindset by socializing the case for change using a hospital throughput framework including a 9-12-2 branding. A discharge launchpad [toolset] was established to define expectations of discharge tasks including accountability within a 2-day window of medical readiness for discharge. This served as the tool aligning various teams to a date for task completion. Lastly, we evaluated skillset and defined best practices for the unit RN role and APP, along with others, which included empowering various roles to discharge patients. Results: For discharges during the baseline period of 12/1/2022 - 11/30/2023 from the Stem Cell Transplant service, the percent of discharge orders in by 9AM was 10.3% and discharges completed by 12PM was 12.2%. The pilot period month of April 2024 resulted in a month close performance of 52.5% for orders in by 9AM and 55.4% of patients discharged by 12PM. The average time spent by Stem Cell patients boarding in our emergency center during the baseline period was 6 hours and 34 minutes with a reduction to 2 hours and 23 minutes in April 2024. There were no Stem Cell beds added during the pilot period compared to baseline. The period of 12/1/2023 – 3/31/2024 was excluded to limit any improving data from the Hawthorne effect since throughput socialization began during those months. Conclusions: We met the goal within one month with plans underway to assess sustainability for implementation readiness for scale and spread to other units. Early efforts made to scale this model within the institution confirm the multi-pronged model approach is necessary. Additionally, we believe that a frontline leadership model would contribute best to implementation success. Missing any component of the multi-pronged approach or team member, such as the APP role without the RN role, will not yield the ultimate result of discharging patients by noon. This change requires a coordinated, team-based approach. The new institutional governance structure for hospital throughput, including academic and operational departments, and a logistics center in the future may contribute to building trust in leadership’s commitment to improving patient care.

Stock price spillovers from foreign institutional investor divestment: Evidence from BlackRock's closure of the China Flexible Equity Fund

This study investigates the impact of BlackRock's September 7, 2023, announcement to close the China Flexible Equity fund on Chinese A-share listed firms held by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). Using event study methodology, we find that the cumulative abnormal return (CAR) of these firms significantly decreases around the announcement date. The decline is attributed to investor concerns about the absence of original governance structures and pessimistic sentiments driven by representativeness bias. The effect is more pronounced in firms with overseas business, weaker investor protection, and overvalued stocks. Our findings provide insights into the influence of FIIs on capital market stability amid global financial movements.

Governance intricacies in implementing regional shared care records: A qualitative study in the national health service, England.

This study explores the governance intricacies in establishing a large-scale information infrastructure for integrated care within the National Health Service of England. By focusing on the initial 5years of a regional interoperability program, we examine the challenges and dynamics of creating a unified system across organizational boundaries. A longitudinal multi-methods approach was utilized, collecting data through interviews with health and social care personnel involved in project governance, meeting observations, and document analysis. This provided an in-depth understanding of the processes and challenges of developing the regional interoperability program. This study reveals a dynamic negotiation process and evolving governance structures that must continuously adapt to integrate diverse systems. Key findings include challenges in reconciling multiplicity and heterogeneity, the importance of social learning and stakeholder adaptation, and the role of ongoing negotiation and collaborative group construction in implementing interorganizational infrastructures. This study underscores the necessity of continuous adaptation and negotiation among stakeholders in establishing effective governance of integrated care infrastructures. Social learning and active participation play pivotal roles in overcoming the challenges associated with system integration. Strategic insights from this research can guide stakeholders in developing sociotechnical solutions for digital interorganizational infrastructures in integrated care.

Implementation of Positive Advanced Recovery Connections in Primary and Secondary Mental Health Care-A Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner-Led Initiative.

This study reports on the implementation of a registered advanced nurse practitioner intervention. Aims include improving access, service user outcomes and integration between primary and secondary care. This paper reports the quantitative results of a mixed methods implementation study. Qualitative data are reported separately. The PARiHS framework informs the implementation process itself, with considerations for nurses and other healthcare professionals explored. The CORE-OM 34 item rating scale was administered both pre- and post-intervention. Service user attendances in secondary care was monitored. Findings suggest that the intervention was associated with clinically significant improvements in global or generic distress, reported by service users, as evidenced by changes in the CORE-OM scores. Access to care was recorded at an average of 3.6 days. Implementation science supported effective and safe implementation with clear governance structures. Registered advanced nurse practice in mental health clinics which provide full episodes of care results in improved integration and may be associated with positive patient outcomes. Implementation science is taught on Irish nursing programmes and this is important if innovative services are to be embedded in the healthcare system. The development of a model of care for mental health Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioners at the interface of primary and secondary care settings may be merited. Positive Advanced Recovery Connections may be associated with improving mental health outcomes and bolstering integration of primary and secondary care services. The utilisation of implementation science highlights the need for collaboration with all stakeholders to overcome barriers and recognise facilitators to attain the necessary model of integrated care. Peer recovery input was provided by members of the service Recovery College, with participation evident in all stages of the project. The psychosocial assessment template was also co-designed.

The influence of the industrial organization on farmers' willingness to adopt water-saving irrigation technologies: a perspective of organizational support

ABSTRACT Water scarcity and inefficiency hinder China's sustainable agriculture. Water-saving irrigation (WSI) technology, as a crucial means to improve water efficiency, has relatively low adoption rates. In this context, this study utilizes survey data from 1,178 farmers in the Yellow River Basin in China, employing both the Binary Probit model and the Iv-Probit model to deeply explore the influence and mechanism of industrial organizations on farmers' willingness to adopt WSI technology. Our study shows that organizational participation behavior and degree of organizational support can effectively enhance farmers' willingness to adopt WSI technology. Organizational support indirectly enhances farmers' willingness to adopt WSI technology by standardizing production, providing agricultural training, and being proactive in learning agricultural techniques. Furthermore, organizational support has a significant impact on farmers with low education, young age, large land management areas, and poor agricultural production conditions. Our study also found that organizational support and government support can play a synergistic role in promoting farmers' willingness to adopt WSI technology. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the cultivation of industrial organizations, improve the governance structure of industrial organizations, strengthen the institutional guarantee of industrial organizations, and pay attention to the heterogeneity of farmer groups when leveraging the role of industrial organizations.

Crime and Governance in the Global South

This article considers the relationship between crime and governance in the peripheries of the Global North. It draws on examples from across the Global South to show how conceptualizations of crimes are impacted by history, politics, and socio-economic contexts and how crime is influenced by, and in turn influences, governance practices. The review centers on four arguments: Western ideologies and epistemologies are inadequate for conceptualizing the nexus between crime and governance in the Global South; understandings of crime must be informed by knowledge of contextual harmscapes; models of crime control and policing do not always capture the hybridity and plurality of everyday governing practices in the Global South; and crime dynamics intersect with governance structures to create complex challenges for state control. The review highlights the need for scholars and practitioners to adopt historically and contextually informed approaches to theorizing the governance of criminalized harms in the Global South.

Challenges to Gender Equality in Governance: Legal Mechanisms and Barriers

The This study explores the multifaceted challenges to achieving gender equality in public administration, focusing on legal mechanisms, best practices, and the impact of digital technologies. It examines the effectiveness of existing legal frameworks across various jurisdictions, including the United States, the European Union, Canada, and more, highlighting successes and shortcomings in promoting gender parity. The research also investigates the role of digital technologies in either advancing or hindering gender equality, particularly through e-recruitment, telework, and digital skills training. By analyzing qualitative data and doctrinal documents, this study aims to identify key barriers and provide actionable recommendations for enhancing gender equality in governance structures. The findings underscore the need for a more integrated approach to addressing gender disparities, especially in the evolving digital landscape.

Feminist Movement in Turkey in the 1990s

According to a feminism worldview, women should have economic, social, civil, political, and cultural rights. For this, women need to go a long, controversial and interesting path. On the one hand, they are aware of their place in society, in the state, and on the other hand, they are trying to change the cultural norms that cause oppression. Turkey is the only country in which the majority of the population is Muslim, and at the same time, it is a candidate for EU membership. Turkey has managed to create a progress-oriented state. This is a well-planned and calculated path with predetermined steps, paved with the reforms of the founder of the republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881–1938). The problem of feminism is one of the most lively topics in republican Turkey. The processes taking place in the Ottoman Empire at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century prepared a solid ground for further development of the feminist movement. On October 29, 1923, after Turkey was declared a republic, the feminist movement took a new direction. The feminist movement in Turkey went through three periods. The first period includes the processes of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and “Europeanization”, which led to the advancement of the women’s problems to the fore and the active struggle for the rights and place of educated Ottoman women in society. The second period was determined by the civil law on the participation of women in elections, adopted in republican Turkey in 1926. And the third one was the period of the 1990s, when the feminist movement became more widespread and active. Feminist policies have been founded and carried out, the role of women in government structures has increased; feminist organizations were created in Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya, etc. In the 1990s, the movement of Muslim feminists, Islamist women, known as “Islamic feminism”, became active in Turkey. After the creation of the republic in Turkey, religious associations came under the direct subordination and control of the state. There have been prepared various projects to solve women’s problems. Centers for the study of women’s issues have been opened at universities. For the first time, women spoke openly about sexual freedom, etc.

Since the establishment of the Company Law in 1993, China's Company Law has revised five revisions in 1999, 2004, 2006, 2013, and 2018, but the large-scale revision was in 2006 and 2023. The 2023 revised Chinese company law is a complete revision, including the company capital system and governance structure, but the most noticeable change among them is the active attitude toward the company litigation system. The newly revised company law was more faithful to its role in mediating commercial disputes. In this paper, we looked at the shareholders' right to know, defects in resolutions at the general shareholders' meeting, and amendments to the lower limit of the representative litigation system.Because of the revision of China's company law will be a significant impact on commercial transactions in China, but also on Korean enterprises in China and transactions between South Korea and China, the writing of this article is particularly meaningful.

Purpose: This study examines the role and challenges of Digital Public Goods (DPGs) in international development cooperation. Emphasizing openness, it analyzes the socio-technical dimensions of DPGs, identifying key considerations and constraints for their development and application. Originality: DPGs are emerging as a strategic tool to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address digital inequality. However, questions persist about whether technical openness alone can ensure successful development outcomes, suggesting the need for a broader analysis. Methodology: Using a socio-technical systems approach, this study reviews scholarly work on open-source software and open data in the Digital for Development (D4D) field over the past 15 years. Result: The findings show that DPGs enhance public service efficiency, support service expansion, and foster innovation through open access to data and knowledge. Despite these benefits, challenges such as technological complexity, infrastructure limitations, gaps in stakeholder awareness, capabilities, and trust, and hierarchical governance structures reveal tensions between technical and social dimensions. Conclusion and Implication: For effective implementation, DPGs require not only technical openness but also open governance structures, sustainable financial and technical capacities, and context-specific strategies. Governments and international organizations play a critical role as coordinators, while the formation of intermediaries and tailored strategies is crucial. This study contributes to the growing body of DPG research by offering a comprehensive analysis through a socio-technical lens.

Cultural heritage and modernization: the evolution of Lifen neighborhoods in Wuhan

ABSTRACT The paper probes into the modernization and conservation of Hankou old Lifen which is a typical residential building with high historical value in Wuhan, China. This research emphasizes the range of government and community structures, using analysis on three different modernization models: Xian’an Fang, Changnian Li, and Tongxing Li. This includes qualitative analysis using a mixed method approach; on-site observation with photography to capture the spatial features as well as narratives from residents within these areas; and semi-structured interviews. The findings highlight the importance of conserving Lifen neighborhoods in view of its historical knowledge, cultural legacy and other urban development experience. In the end, maintaining and evolving them can be sustainable only through a hybrid that pairs state support with community involvement. This research provides key insights for policymakers, urban planners and conservationists working to balance heritage preservation with the contemporary needs of cities.

Effect of Ownership Structure on Performance of Quoted Financial Firms in Nigeria

This study investigates the relationship between ownership structure and firm performance of quoted Nigerian financial firms in Nigeria. This study employs an Ex post facto research design, utilizing data extracted from annual reports of the financial firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) between the years 2014 to 2023. The population of interest consists of 48 listed financial firms. Secondary data from the firms' annual reports were collected and analyzed using fixed effect panel regression analysis as specified by Hausman test. The findings reveal significant positive effects of managerial ownership, institutional ownership, and ownership concentration on firm performance. These results align with established theories such as agency theory and stewardship theory, as well as previous empirical studies in the field of corporate governance and ownership structure. The study concludes that increasing managerial ownership can align the interests of managers with shareholders, leading to improved firm performance. Attracting institutional investors who bring expertise, monitoring capabilities, and long-term investment perspectives can also contribute to enhanced firm performance. Furthermore, careful management of ownership concentration can enhance monitoring and decision-making efficiency, align shareholder interests, and reduce agency costs. However, the study finds no significant impact of foreign ownership on firm performance in the Nigerian context. This suggests the need for further research to better understand the specific dynamics and potential implications of foreign ownership in the Nigerian financial industry, considering factors such as regulatory restrictions, cultural differences, and information asymmetry.

Evaluating the Development Dynamics, Challenges, and Strategic Enhancements of Private Undergraduate Colleges

This study examined the development effects, existing challenges, and potential improvement strategies for private undergraduate colleges in Guangdong Province, China, over the past 40 years. Since establishing the first private higher education institution in 1993, the sector has expanded significantly, with private colleges now accounting for a substantial portion of the province's higher education landscape. The analysis highlights the effectiveness of these institutions in aligning with national educational goals and regional economic needs, as well as their contributions to talent cultivation. However, the study also identifies critical issues, including the quality of talent training, internal governance deficiencies, and the need for enhanced faculty development. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of strengthening party building and ideological education within these institutions. The paper proposed comprehensive strategies to address these challenges to improve governance structures, optimize educational quality, and foster a high-quality teaching workforce. Ultimately, this research aims to provide insights that can guide the development of private undergraduate colleges in Guangdong Province, ensuring they contribute effectively to the region's economic and social advancement.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): A Comprehensive Review

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) represents a significant leap in the field of artificial intelligence, defined by its ability to perform any intellectual task that a human can. Unlike narrow AI, which is task-specific, AGI is characterized by versatility, adaptability, autonomy, and reasoning capabilities. This comprehensive review explores the defining features of AGI, including its cognitive flexibility and capacity for autonomous decision-making and problem-solving. The current state of AGI research is examined, highlighting key areas such as cognitive architectures, neuroscience-inspired AI, and machine learning and deep learning advancements. Examining the impact of climate change on local ecosystems and communities

We examine the particular impacts of rising temperatures, changed precipitation patterns, and an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events using climate models, field data, and socioeconomic analysis. The results of our investigation show that phenology, biodiversity, and species distributions are all significantly changing in the local ecosystems. Ecosystem services including pollination, water purification, and carbon sequestration are being hampered by these changes. One of the most important environmental issues facing humanity in the twenty-first century is climate change. The world's wealthiest and poorest nations are both impacted by climate change. In areas that are susceptible, for instance, shorter growing seasons and more frequent droughts are reducing agricultural productivity and leading to food insecurity. In addition to the environmental effects, local residents have substantial financial challenges. According to economic assessments, climate-related calamities such as floods and droughts have a substantial financial impact on both infrastructure and people. Particularly impacted are communities that depend on agriculture and natural resources, which has a big impact on their standard of living and economic stability. Our research also demonstrates how different adaptation tactics, including as water conservation and sustainable land management, can improve community resilience. Another important component of our research is the effects on health. We see a rise in climate-sensitive health outcomes, especially in areas with poor access to healthcare, such as vector-borne infections and heat-related illnesses. The mediating function of socioeconomic factors, such as income and education levels, on these health outcomes is significant. Our results highlight the necessity of focused interventions and policies to improve adaptive ability and reduce health risks. The study's finding highlights how intricately local ecosystems and communities are impacted by climate change. By providing a comprehensive analysis, our aim is to inform stakeholders and policymakers about workable mitigation and adaptation strategies. Future research should focus on longer observation periods and developing comprehensive approaches to address the complex issues caused by climate change. The paper concludes that although policy frameworks are necessary, their implementation and enforcement are hampered by Africa's poor governance structure and lack of political will.

ESG disclosures, green innovation, and greenwashing: All for sustainable development?

AbstractAs stakeholder concerns about corporate sustainability intensify, greenwashing—where companies deceptively report their environmental performance for short‐term economic gain—poses a significant threat to long‐term sustainability, making it crucial to explore effective ways to curb this practice. Using data from 1,270 Chinese listed companies from 2009 to 2019, this study constructs two‐way fixed effects and moderating effects models to explore the crucial role of green innovation in curbing greenwashing. Green innovation not only reduces the incentives for greenwashing, but also makes a genuine contribution to environmental protection, thus promoting a “win‐win” scenario for both sustainability and corporate development. Moreover, the positive impact of green innovation on curbing greenwashing can be significantly amplified by easing financial constraints and enhancing firms’ risk‐taking capabilities to foster a stable financial environment, as well as by strengthening the governance structure through increased gender diversity and environmental background among managers. Heterogeneity tests show that this pathway is particularly effective in companies with heavy pollution and higher economic performance. The research findings help to formulate more effective management strategies and incentive mechanisms to reduce greenwashing and achieve sustainable development.

The Australian Frailty Network: Development of a consumer-focussed national response to frailty.

Frailty is an important concept in the care of older adults. Over the past two decades, significant advances have been made in measuring frailty. While it is now well-recognised that frailty status is an important determinant of outcomes from medical illnesses or surgical interventions, frailty measurement is not currently routinely integrated into clinical practice. In the community setting, it is uncommon for general practitioners to deliver frailty-optimised care. In hospitals, there is substantial variability in how people living with frailty are managed. This variability is notable between and even within disciplines. Furthermore, gains from understanding frailty mechanisms and risk factors are not yet applied/implemented at scale to delay the progression of frailty in community-dwellers. The Australian Frailty Network (AFN) is a national collaborative group of researchers, clinicians, non-government organisations, consumers and policymakers, in which the engagement and active involvement of consumers has been embedded from the outset. The AFN aims to generate new knowledge to improve health outcomes, to ensure evidence-based management is translated into clinical practice and to build capacity in multidisciplinary and translational frailty research. Here, we describe the development of the AFN, highlighting important milestones: (i) securing funding for the network and flagship elements; (ii) an inaugural summit to establish the strategic vision, values and scope with end-users; (iii) sabbatical visits to learn from international examples; and (iv) developing the governance structure and an actionable plan encompassing consumer engagement, research, education and policy and practice to maximise impact.

Board Gender Diversity and Workplace Safety: Evidence From Quasi‐Natural Experiments

ABSTRACTResearch Questions/IssueThis paper examines the impact of board gender diversity on workplace safety in an international setting from 2002 to 2019. Utilizing gender quotas on corporate boards as a quasi‐natural experiment, we explore the causal effects of gender diversity on workplace safety, highlighting the significant influence of corporate board gender quotas on corporate policies.Research Findings/ResultsUsing a sample of 13,124 firm‐year observations from 48 countries, our findings reveal that gender quotas on corporate boards are linked to higher rates of work‐related injuries. The association is particularly strong in financially constrained firms, as well as in those with high workloads and low investments in workplace safety. In contrast, this effect is mitigated in firms located in countries with strong institutional frameworks and high union representation. The results hold across various regression specifications and remain robust when considering different measures of workplace injuries, board gender diversity, and additional control variables.Theoretical ImplicationsOur study draws on gender behavior theory, social role theory, and gender socialization theory, with findings particularly aligning with gender behavior theory. It advances understanding of how changes in corporate governance structures related to board diversity influence workplace safety. This research underscores the importance of further empirical work to expand this area of study, suggesting valuable directions for future research through cross‐sectional and longitudinal analyses.Practical ImplicationsThe findings provide critical insights for policymakers considering the implementation of gender quotas in boardrooms. Additionally, this research highlights the need for further exploration of unexamined aspects within governance studies, which will significantly influence future policy debates, legislative processes, and corporate practices in promoting gender diversity and enhancing workplace safety.
