Long-Cycling Cellulose-Based Gel Polymer Electrolyte Utilizing Nanohydrotalcite as a Li+ Transport Redistributor.

The hydroxyl groups on the surface of the cellulose-based gel polymer electrolyte lead to poor interfacial compatibility due to side reactions with lithium sheets. In this paper, a novel cellulose-based gel polymer electrolyte was prepared by uniformly coating the surface of a cellulose membrane with a nanohydrotalcite/PVDF-HFP composite using electrospinning technology. This cellulose-based gel polymer electrolyte exhibits good interfacial compatibility and excellent cycling stability (91.7% specific capacity retention after 500 cycles at 0.5C). Theory and experiments have shown that nanohydrotalcite on the surface of cellulose membrane can effectively prevent the contact of hydroxyl groups with lithium sheets to reduce the side reactions. In addition, nanohydrotalcite can also act as a Li+ transport redistributor to facilitate the uniform deposition of Li+ and reduce the formation of lithium dendrites to extend the cycle life.

Sustainable cottonseed protein bioplastics: Physical and chemical reinforcement, and plant seedling growth application

Petroleum-based plastic containers for plant seedling growth are expensive to recycle and have negative environmental impacts when discarded. In this work, a novel family of sustainable and biodegradable plastic films and containers were fabricated by simply casting and mold-curing methods, which demonstrated outstanding performance promoting crop seed germination and plant seedling growth. Concentrate cottonseed protein (CPC) was used as polymeric matrix, pulp fiber (PF) as a physical reinforcement, tannic acid (TA) as a chemical modifying agent, with their addition contents ranging from 0 ∼ 30 % (PF) and 0 ∼ 10 % (TA), respectively. Evaluations of the composite CPC/PF and CPC/TA films regarding their structure, morphology, tensile properties, and water resistance show that the physical and chemical reinforcement resulted in good interfacial compatibility, mechanical strength, and water resistance. Moreover, the newly prepared bioplastics were biodegradable in soil in three weeks, and did not harm crop seed germination and growth. More importantly, the protein derived biocontainers/pot (CPC/PF30 and CPC/TA10) can provide excellent growth conditions for plant root and leaf growth such as chili peppers because of their low toxicity and 100 % germination rate. More importantly, the healthy growing environment was closely related to the presence of nutritious elements/ions that the plant needed. Specifically, the biodegradation of the bioplastics during plant seedling test released nitrogen-containing ions like NH4+ (0.25 wt% for CPC/TA10 versus 0.17 wt% for polyethylene), and retained in soil, playing a decisive role in seedling growth. Therefore, the cottonseed protein bioplastics reinforced by pulp fiber and tannic acid are beneficial to crop seedling growth, holding great potential for being used as plantable pots/containers in agriculture and horticulture applications.

LLZTO crosslinks form a highly stretchable self-healing network for fast healable all-solid lithium metal batteries

Flexible composite solid electrolytes (CSEs) show great potentials in high-energy all-solid-state lithium metal batteries owing to their easy fabrication, good electrochemical properties, and high safety. However, it remains challenging to achieve good interfacial compatibility between the inorganic fillers and polymer matrix, which affects the lithium-ion transport efficiency and electrochemical performances of CSEs. Herein, a dynamic crosslinked network with Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO) nanoparticles as the cross-linking point is proposed for fabrication of a rapidly self-healing flexible CSE, which is signed as SHENE. The amino groups in the 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane modified LLZTO behave as the bridge sites to react with the copolymer of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-g-4-formylbenzoic acid and poly (ethylene glycol) methoxy acrylate to form imine bonds, which effectively connect the organic/inorganic interface. Compared to the traditional physical contact, the covalent imine bonds can not only enhance the interaction between the two phases, but also improve the dispersion of the ceramic LLZTO nanoparticles. Additionally, the dynamic reversibility of imine bonds allows for enhanced mechanical strength and self-repairing capabilities of SHENE. Therefore, a Li||Li symmetrical cell assembled with SHENE can stably cycle for 5000 h at 0.05 mA cm−2 and 25 °C. The corresponding Li/SHENE/LiFePO4 full battery also exhibits good rate performance under various C-rates. Additionally, the Li/SHENE/LFP pouch cell exhibits superior safety under various abuse conditions. Therefore, this work provides new ideas for the uniform dispersion of ceramic nanoparticles in CSEs by the facile design of forming dynamic crosslinked networks.

Environmental-friendly and fast production of ultra-strong phenolic aerogel composite with superior thermal insulation and ablative-resistance

There is an urgent need for developing “low-carbon” synthesis technology to prepare aerogel composites with both high mechanical strength and efficient thermal insulation for applications of modern aerospace and energy saving. Herein, we propose a strategy for fabricating lightweight phenolic aerogel composites with thick-united connected nano-structure and good aerogel-fiber interfacial compatibility. The specific micro-nano structure and optimized material synergism endow the aerogel composites with an ultrahigh tensile strength (12.84 ± 0.64 MPa), bending strength (24.69 ± 1.96 MPa) and compressive strength (1.7 ± 0.053 MPa under 5 % strain), as well as low thermal conductivity (0.0541 ± 0.0003 W/(m·K)). The aerogel composites behave excellent ablation-resistance under the flame of 1200 °C within 30 min and maintain a cold-side temperature of 56.07 °C without any shape change. The rigid-flexible comminated aerogel composites open up a new technical track for developing lightweight thermal protective composites with high strength, toughness, and efficient thermal insulation demanded in extreme environments.

Dynamically reversible cross-linked polymer electrolytes with highly ionic conductivity for dendrite-free lithium metal batteries

High-safety PEO-based electrolytes have attracted widespread attention, but their inefficient conduction of Li ions and poor contact with electrode interfaces deteriorate the performances of rechargeable lithium metal batteries. Herein, we design a vitrimer polymer electrolyte (V-SPE-PEG) with abundant dynamic imine bonds via Schiff base reaction between aldehyde and ammonia, which achieves high ionic conductivity and good interfacial compatibility with lithium anode. The dynamic polymer network in V-SPE-PEG exhibits solid-state plasticity because reversible imine bonding reactions enable the integrity of the polymer network to be maintained while altering the cross-linked points under external stimuli. Therefore, this 3D dynamic cross-linked network effectively facilitates the polymer chain dynamics and meanwhile enhances ionic conductivity. Additionally, dynamic bond exchange fosters electrolyte flowability and self-healing during lithium deposition, promoting a tightly integrated electrode/electrolyte interface while inhibiting lithium dendrites growth. Consequently, lithium symmetric cells utilizing the V-SPE-PEG electrolyte demonstrate exceptional long-term cycling stability, surpassing 1100 h and exhibit outstanding ionic conductivity of 2.7 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 30 °C. The LiFePO4||Li battery maintains stable cycling performance at both 40 °C and 60 °C. This study introduces an innovative approach to designing solid-state electrolytes for lithium-metal batteries.

Effect of mullite fiber on the properties of glass composite sealing materials

Glass-based sealing materials exhibit significant potential for utilization in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). We conducted a study on the impact of mullite fibers with varying particle sizes on glass composite sealing materials. We evaluated and discussed properties such as coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), softening temperature (Ts), gastightness, interfacial compatibility, and flexural strength of the sealing materials with different ranges of fiber particle sizes. Our findings indicate that the three different particle sizes of mullite fiber-glass composite sealing materials met the required coefficients of thermal expansion, displayed good interfacial compatibility, and exhibited gastightness lower than 0.0016 sccm cm−1. Notably, the mullite fiber-reinforced sealing material that underwent ball-milling for 1 h outperformed the other two variants. It demonstrated fewer defects, a 57.1 % increase in flexural strength, and a 117.4 % higher maximum strain value.

In-situ glass transition of ZIF-62 based mixed matrix membranes for enhancing H2 fast separation

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), combining the advantages of polymer membranes and porous materials, processing the potential to realize large-scale gas separation applications. However, the interfacial defects in MMMs greatly hindered gas separation performance improvement. Therefore, designing an MMM with high loading and good interfacial compatibility remains a critical issue in promoting the application of MMMs. Herein, during in-situ heating process, the melting of liquid ZIF-62 in PBI polymer can largely fill the interfacial defects in MMMs. The microporous transport channels of ZIF-62 glass in MMMs promoted the H2 diffusion and inhibited the CO2 and CH4 diffusion, thus enhancing the H2/CO2 and H2/CH4 separation of MMMs. For mixed gas testing, the 45 wt% ZIF-62 glass/PBI membrane had the maximum H2 permeability of 459 barrer, and its H2/CO2 and H2/CH4 selectivities were 23 and 57, higher than the gas separation upper bonds. In addition, ZIF-62 glass/PBI membrane exhibited stable separation performance under 1–5 bar pressure. Therefore, the rational combination of MOF glass and polymer matrix could provide promising potential for reducing the interfacial defects of high-loading MMMs, thus enhancing the gas separation performance.

Solid polymer electrolytes with fragment-separated microphase for advanced Li ion transport and highly stable lithium metal batteries

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) with high ionic conductivity and good interfacial compatibility are one of the main factors constraining the performance of lithium metal batteries. However, the most common PEO (Polyethylene oxide)-based SPEs always lack of considerable relaxation of PEO segments, and therefore fail to apply into practical situations. Herein a novel method to prepare fragment-separated epoxy polymer electrolytes (FSEEs) characterized with fragment-separated microphase patterns via a rigid-and flexible monomers cross-link reaction is presented to enhance the overall SPE performance. The fragment-separated microphase can separate the PEO chains in framework and improve the relaxation of PEO chains, optimize the Li+ transport, where the ionic conductivity can be up to 0.56 mS cm−1 at 25 °C. The fragment-separated Li+ transport mechanism in FSEEs also provide better interfacial compatibility than that of PEO due to the even Li+ distribution at interface. The utilization of FSEE-S in Li/Li symmetric cells demonstrated a stable voltage plateau after cycling for 2000 h. Additionally, Li/LFP batteries exhibit favorable 0.5 C performance under 45 °C, lasting over 600 h and exceeding 150 cycles. This study offers a promising approach to SPE design, which may catalyze further exploration of the role of microphase in SPE performance.

Self-assembled lignin-based flame retardant hybrids carrying Cu2+ for poly(lactic acid) composites with improved fire safety and mechanical properties

To enhance the flame retardancy and mechanical performance of PLA, a polyelectrolyte complex predicated on lignin was obtained by electrostatic mutual adsorption of ammonium polyphosphate (APP), polyethyleneimine (PEI), and copper ions as raw materials. The FT-IR spectra and EDX analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of a lignin-based flame retardant hybrid (APL-Cu2+) containing copper, phosphorus, and nitrogen elements. The combustion test results showed that the peak heat release rate and total heat release of the PLA composite containing 12 wt% APL-Cu2+ were decreased by 15.1 % and 18.2 %, respectively, as compared to those of pure PLA. The char residue morphology observation revealed that the addition of APL-Cu2+ could promote the formation of a highly dense and stable graphitized char layer, while TG-MS detected the emission of refractory gases such as ammonia gas, carbon dioxide, and water during combustion. The strong hydrogen bonding between APL-Cu2+ and the PLA matrix kept the composite maintaining good strength and toughness. The tensile strength and impact strength of PLA/6APL-Cu2+ increased by 4.73 % and 65.71 %, respectively, due to its high crystallinity and good interfacial compatibility. This work provides a feasible method to develop biobased flame retardant hybrids for PLA composites with better fire safety and improved mechanical properties.

Integrating Lithium Sulfide as a Single Ionic Conductor Interphase for Stable All-Solid-State Lithium-Sulfur Batteries.

As a very prospective solid-state electrolyte, Li10GeP2S12 (LGPS) exhibits high ionic conductivity comparable to liquid electrolytes. However, severe self-decomposition and Li dendrite propagation of LGPS will be triggered due to the thermodynamic incompatibility with Li metal anode. Herein, by adopting a facile chemical vapor deposition method, an artificial solid electrolyte interphase composed of Li2S is proposed as a single ionic conductor to promote the interface stability of LGPS toward Li. The good electronic insulation coupled with ionic conduction property of Li2S effectively blocks electron transfer from Li to LGPS while enabling smooth passage of Li ions. Meanwhile, the generated Li2S layer remains good interface compatibility with LGPS, which is verified by the stable Li-plating/stripping operation for over 500h at 0.15mAcm-2. Consequently, the all-solid-state Li-S batteries (ASSLSBs) with a Li2S layer demonstrate superb capacity retention of 90.8% at 0.2mAcm-2 after 100cycles. Even at the harsh condition of 90 °C, the cell can deliver a high reversible capacity of 1318.8mAhg-1 with decent capacity retention of 88.6% after 100cycles. This approach offers a new insight for interface modification between LGPS and Li and the realization of ASSLSBs with stable cycle life.

Melt processing of graphene-coated polylactide granules for producing biodegradable nanocomposite with higher mechanical strength

ABSTRACT Innovative melt processing technology is necessary for the production of biodegradable polylactide/graphene nanocomposites. In this paper, we present the aqueous spray coating method to prepare graphene-coated polylactide granules for improving the distribution of small graphene contents in polymer matrix during the melt mixing process. Three types of functionalized graphene nanosheets, including graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and poly(ethylene glycol)/RGO (PEG/RGO), were investigated in the formations of graphene coatings on polylactide granules and subsequent melt-processed nanocomposites. It is found that RGO nanosheets have good interfacial compatibility to form better coatings on polylactide granules. Melt processing of graphene-coated granules produced polylactide/graphene nanocomposites with higher mechanical strengths. Nanocomposite materials containing 0.1% RGO showed the best improvements of mechanical and thermal properties. As-prepared nanomaterials and nanocomposites were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), tensile, flexural and impact measurements, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and integrated thermogravimetric analysis (TGA-DTA). In general, the innovative strategy of aqueous spray coating and melt processing is applicable for manufacturing biodegradable PLA/graphene nanocomposites in the sustainable trend of environmentally friendly development.

Screen‐Printed Composite LiFePO4‐LLZO Cathodes Towards Solid‐State Li‐ion Batteries

AbstractLiFePO4 (LFP) is widely used as cathode material for its low cost, high safety, and good thermal properties. It is one of the most exploited cathode materials for commercial Li‐ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we present a screen‐printing method to prepare a LFP composite cathode, and a rational combination of the typical composite solid electrolytes (CSE) consisting of polyethylene oxide (PEO)/Li‐salt (LiTFSi) electrolyte with ceramic filler (LLZO or Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO)) has been successfully demonstrated for SSB. The prepared CSE offers: i) a promising ionic conductivity (0.425 mS cm−1 at 60 °C), ii) a wide electrochemical window (>4.6 V), iii) a high Li‐ion transference number (tLi+=0.44), iv) a good interfacial compatibility with the electrode, v) a good thermal stability, and vi) a high chemical stability toward Li metal anode. The Li/CSE/Li symmetric cells can be cycled for more than 1000 h without Li‐dendrites growth at a current density of 0.2 mA cm−2. The final cell screen‐printed LFP composite cathode (LFP+LLZO)//Li metal displays a high reversible specific capacity of 140 mAh g−1 (0.1 C) and 50 mAh g−1 (0.5 C) after 1st and 500th cycles.

Low-cost and high-safety montmorillonite-based solid electrolyte for lithium metal batteries

Composite solid-state electrolyte have good interfacial compatibility and mechanical properties, but their safety (such as easy to catch fire) and economic cost are still problems. In present work, an composite solid-state electrolyte was prepared by inserting poly(vinylidene fluoride)-based polymer electrolyte matrix into the interlayer of a low cost clay mineral-montmorillonite. The composite electrolyte exhibited remarkable characteristics, including excellent flame retardancy, high room temperature ionic conductivity of 2.28 × 10−4 S cm−1, wide electrochemical stability window of 4.8 V, high lithium-ion transference number of 0.57 and good mechanical strength of 12.58 MPa. Furthermore, LiFePO4-based solid-state battery, utilizing this composite solid-state electrolyte, exhibited stable cycling with discharge specific capacity of 130 mAh g−1 for over 100 cycles at a rate of 0.5C at room temperature. This successful performance demonstrated the potential of utilizing low-cost and environmentally friendly raw clay mineral materials in high energy density solid-state battery applications.

Elucidating intermolecular forces to improve compatibility of kraft lignin in poly(lactic acid).

Owing to its abundant supply from renewable resources, lignin has emerged as a promising functional filler for the development of sustainable composite materials. However, achieving good interfacial compatibility between lignin and synthetic polymers, particularly poly (lactic acid) (PLA), remains a fundamental challenge. To advance the development of high-performance bio-based composites incorporating lignin and PLA, our study has scrutinized to unravel the nuances of interfacial binding interactions with the lignin and PLA composite system. Molecular level and experimental examinations were employed to decipher fundamental mechanisms governing and demonstrating the interfacial adhesion. We synthesized casted films of lignin/PLA and acetylated lignin/PLA at varying weight percentages of lignin (5%, 10%, and 20%) and comprehensively investigated their physicochemical and mechanical properties. The inclusion of acetylated lignin in the composites resulted in improved mechanical strength and Young's modulus, while the glass transition temperature and melting point were reduced compared to neat PLA. Systematic variations in these properties revealed distinct compatibility behaviors between unmodified lignin and acetylated lignin when incorporated into PLA. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation results elucidated that the observed changes in material properties were primarily attributed to the acetylation of lignin. Acetylated lignin exhibited lower Coulombic interaction energy and higher van der Waals forces, indicating a stronger affinity to PLA and a reduced propensity for intermolecular aggregation compared to unmodified lignin. Our findings highlight the critical role of controlling intermolecular interactions and lignin aggregation to develop PLA composites with predictable performance for new applications, such as functional packaging materials.

Graphene oxide-encapsulated baghdadite nanocomposite improved physical, mechanical, and biological properties of a vancomycin-loaded PMMA bone cement

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is commonly used in orthopedic surgeries to fill the bone defects or fix the prostheses. These cements are usually containing amounts of a nonbioactive radiopacifying agent such as barium sulfate and zirconium dioxide, which does not have a good interface compatibility with PMMA, and the clumps formed from these materials can scratch metal counterfaces. In this work, graphene oxide encapsulated baghdadite (GOBgh) nanoparticles were applied as radiopacifying and bioactive agent in a PMMA bone cement containing 2 wt.% of vancomycin (VAN). The addition of 20 wt.% of GOBgh (GOBgh20) nanoparticles to PMMA powder caused a 33.6% increase in compressive strength and a 70.9% increase in elastic modulus compared to the Simplex® P bone cement, and also enhanced the setting properties, radiopacity, antibacterial activity, and the apatite formation in simulated body fluid. In vitro cell assessments confirmed the increase in adhesion and proliferation of MG-63 cells as well as the osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells on the surface of PMMA-GOBgh20 cement. The chorioallantoic membrane assay revealed the excellent angiogenesis activity of nanocomposite cement samples. In vivo experiments on a rat model also demonstrated the mineralization and bone integration of PMMA-GOBgh20 cement within four weeks. Based on the promising results obtained, PMMA-GOBgh20 bone cement is suggested as an optimal sample for use in orthopedic surgeries.

Synchronously improved toughness and dielectric properties of cyanate ester resins via modification with biobased poly(N‐phenylmaleimide‐co‐limonene)

AbstractHigh‐performance cyanate ester (CE) resins have attracted intensive interests due to low‐k and heat resistant properties. However, the extreme high curing temperature and inherent brittleness severely limit their practical application. Herein, novel biobased poly(N‐phenylmaleimide‐co‐limonene) (PML) microspheres were specially designed and synthesized by self‐stabilized precipitation polymerization, which could simultaneously serve as effective curing agents and toughening modifiers for 2,2‐bis(4‐cyanatophenyl) propane (BADCy). The high density of unreacted endocyclic vinyl groups in PML could effectively react with BADCy, leading to lower curing temperature and good interfacial compatibility. Benefitting from both the weakly polarizable flexible chains and the highly crosslinked semi‐interpenetrating network formed during the curing process, BADCy/PML resins exhibited highly enhanced toughness and reduced dielectric constant (ε). Specifically, the BADCy/PML resins showed minimum values of ε and dielectric loss of 2.61 and 0.0032 at 106 Hz, much lower than BADCy resins (2.88, 0.0052). More importantly, a maximum impact strength of 15.6 kJ/m2 was achieved at 10 wt% loading of PML, which was 86% higher than BADCy resin. In summary, this work developed a novel strategy to simultaneously improve toughness and dielectric properties of CE resins using bio‐based PML copolymer, which have great potential in the fields of electronics and information technology.

Revealing structure correlation between ionic liquid and metal-organic framework matrix

Solid-state batteries are rising rapidly in response to the fast-increasing energy demand. Metal-organic framework (MOF) loaded with ionic liquids has brought new opportunities for solid-state batteries owing to its good interfacial compatibility and high ionic conductivity. MOF-808 is selected to be filled with Li-contained ionic liquid for structure and ion dynamics investigation using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-ray diffraction. This study finds that the introduced ionic liquid would partially soften the matrix of MOF-808 and thus yield amorphous phase. By selective isotope replacement under cycling symmetric 6Li metal cell, Li+ ion is observed to mainly go cross ionic liquid in the open channel of matrix under potential polarization.

Functionalisation of lignin with urethane linkages and their strengthening effect on PLA composites

Lignin was functionalised by crosslinking with hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) through the heterogenous reaction in the solvent dimethyl sulfoxide for preferential improvement in the mechanical properties of composites. The successful synthesis of lignin modified with HDI was confirmed by the instrumental analyses, e.g., FTIR, XPS, and FESEM. The incorporation of optimum crosslinked lignin in polylactic acid (PLA) matrix was systematically evaluated on the basis of their thermal stability, mechanical property, glass transition temperature (Tg), water contact angle, water absorption, and water permeability. The results displayed that incorporation of fillers had prominent effects on tensile tear strength, which could improve tensile strength up to 231 % and elongation at break up to 53 % due to the good interface compatibility between PLA and modified lignin. Further, with the inclusion of fillers, PLA composites exhibited higher crystallinity in comparison to neat PLA.

Cellulose acetate oleate-reinforced poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) composite materials

Abstract Cellulose acetate oleate (CAO)-reinforced poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) composites were prepared by the solvent casting method. The influence of the addition of CAO on the mechanical property, thermal property, disintegration property, compatibility, and hydrophobicity of PBAT/CAO composites was investigated. Compared with PBAT, the tensile strength and Young’s modulus of PBAT/CAO with 4 wt% CAO were increased by 9.5% and 25.7%, and the disintegration rate was also increased by 2.8 times. The results of morphological property, contact angle, and water vapor transmission indicated that the PBAT/CAO composites had good interfacial interaction and compatibility, and the hydrophobicity was improved. PBAT/CAO was applied to strawberry preservation, and it showed excellent freshness retention performance. Moreover, a possible degradation pathway for PBAT/CAO composite was proposed. This work provided a way for the preparation and performance improvement of biodegradable materials, which is expected to be applied in the packaging field.

Incorporating 2D porous organic polymer nanosheets into high-temperature proton-exchange membranes for low H3PO4 loss

Phosphoric acid (PA)-doped ion exchange membranes have been recognized as a classical high-temperature proton exchange membrane (HT-PEM) material. Nonetheless, the leaching of PA from membranes occurs progressively during operation, inevitably diminishing overall performance. In this study, we present a novel approach for crafting two-dimensional porous organic polymer nanosheets (NS-POPs) synthesized through nano-interfacial azo-coupling polymerization. The prepared NS-POPs possessed different pore structures with main pore sizes of 0.55 nm and 1.19 nm, which were derived from the discrepancy of monomer structure. Subsequently, the NS-POPs were successfully incorporated into polybenzimidazole to create mixed-matrix membranes due to the good interface compatibility, characterized by homogeneity and stability facilitated by the 2D nature of NS-POPs. As a comparison, POPs with non-2D properties prepared by the solution method cannot be successfully obtained in good MMMs due to poor dispersibility and interface compatibility. Furthermore, the profusion of pore structures and the presence of N/O-rich functional groups in NS-POPs significantly enhance their PA uptake capacity with up to 289 %, consequently boosting proton conductivity. As a result, the composite membrane doped with NS-POPs demonstrated a maximum conductivity of up to 143 mS cm−1 at 180 °C, which is approximately 2.97 times that of pure membrane. And the peak power density of H2/O2 fuel cell based on the composite membrane was 378 mW cm−2, which was higher than PBI. Most significantly, the confinement effect exerted by the small pores in NS-POPs enables composite membranes to maintain a higher PA retention of up to 74 % even after a 48 h of high-temperature and high-humidity treatment. Our study introduces an innovative and straightforward approach to synthesizing porous organic polymer nanosheets. This work not only advances the understanding of the impact of interface compatibility on composite membrane fabrication, but also establishes a versatile technology for modulating pore size and managing PA leaching in HT-PEMs.
