Hematological analyses were performed in Danish landrace goats of different ages from birth to over 5 years of age. Hemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume, number of erythrocytes and leukocytes were lower in neonates and juveniles than in goats of other ages. Their levels increased to maximum within 8–12 months. Mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin were highest in neonatal kids and decreased with age concomitantly with increases in erythrocyte counts, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit. The nonparametric range from 5th to 95th percentile intervals were within mean ± 2 s.d. ( x + 2s) in most parameters except for basophils, monocytes, eosinophils and band neutrophil counts. There were significant age differences except for mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. Sex differences were noted only for total leukocyte counts and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration at some ages. Age influence makes distinction between kids, juveniles and adult goats necessary for interpretation of laboratory results.
