Global research landscape and burden of disease in pediatrics: Identifying the research gaps to set directions for a new general pediatric journal

AbstractPediatrics intersects with almost the entire field of medicine, and thus the diversity of suitable publication platforms is particularly broad. We reviewed the current health issues among children and adolescents, the topics and scope of existing pediatric journals, as well as the distribution of a random selection of articles according to different health topics and journal types. Neurological disorders, mental health, and neonatal conditions were major contributors not only to loss of health and life among children and adolescents but also common themes of research articles and pediatric subspecialty journals. On the other hand, in some clinical areas, such as dermatology, the research does not necessarily meet the needs of practice. Methodological studies in pediatrics were rarely published, but they were common among preprints. We call for Pediatric Discovery to promote a research viewpoint that focuses on the child instead of individual conditions, pay particular attention to health concerns associated with the greatest burden and interactions between them, and promote the further standardization of reporting and methodologies that account for the unique characteristics of children and adolescents.

Research landscape and hotspots of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for NOx removal: insights from a comprehensive bibliometric analysis

Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) has been one of the most efficient and widely used technologies to remove nitrogen oxides (NOx). SCR research has developed rapidly in recent years, which can be reflected by the dramatic increase of related academic publications. Herein, based on the 10,627 documents from 2001 to 2020 in Web of Science, the global research landscape and hotspots in SCR are investigated based on a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. The results show that SCR research has developed positively; the annul number of articles increase sharply from 246 in 2001 to 1092 in 2020. People's Republic of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences are the most productive country and institution, respectively. The global collaboration is extensive and frequent, while People's Republic of China and USA have the most frequent research cooperation. Applied Catalysis B-Environmental is the leading publication source with 711 records. Five major research areas on SCR are identified and elaborated, including catalyst, reductant, deactivation, mechanism, and others. Zeolite is the most widely studied SCR catalyst, while copper, silver, platinum, and iron are the most popular metal elements in catalyst. Ammonia (NH3) is dominated among various SCR reductants, while hydrocarbon reductant has gained more attention. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and vapor are the two most concerned factors leading to catalyst deactivation, and catalyst regeneration is also an important research topic. Density functional theory (DFT), in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and kinetics are the most widely used methods to conduct mechanism study. The studies on "low temperature," "atomic-scale insight," "elemental mercury," "situ DIRFTS investigation," "arsenic poisoning," "SPOA-34," "Cu-CHA catalyst," "TiO2 catalyst," and "Ce catalyst" have been the hotspots in recent years.

An overview of global research landscape in etiology of urolithiasis based on bibliometric analysis.

The high incidence, recurrence and treatment costs of urolithiasis have a serious impact on patients and society. For a long time, countless scholars have been working tirelessly on studies related to the etiology of urolithiasis. A comprehensive understanding of the current status will be beneficial to the development of this field. We collected all literature about the etiology of urolithiasis from 1990 to 2022 using the Web of Science (WoS) database. VOSviewer, Bibliometrix and CiteSpace software were used to quantitatively analyze and visualize the data as well. The query identified 3177 articles for final analysis, of which related to the etiology of urolithiasis. The annual number of publications related to urolithiasis research has steadily increased during the latest decade. United States (1106) and China (449) contributed the most publications. University of Chicago (92) and Indiana University (86) have the highest number of publications. Urolithiasis and Journal of Urology have published the most articles in the field. Coe FL is the most productive author (63 articles), whose articles have obtained the most citations in all (4141 times). The keyword, such as hypercalciuria, hyperoxaluria, citrate, oxidative stress, inflammation, Randall's plaque, are the most attractive targets for the researchers. Our review provides a global landscape of studies related to the etiology of urolithiasis, which can serve as a reference for future studies in this field.

Academic and Corporate Vehicle Electrification Research

We developed and used methodology to analyze scientific publications in Scopus relating to vehicle electrification and associated key enabling technologies: batteries, fuel cells and electric machines with power electronics. The global research landscape was mapped, and an analysis of the 16 most active countries was carried out. Vehicle electrification publications are rewarded with a high citation impact, and they include corporate actors to a great extent. China dominates in vehicle electrification research as well as in the enabling technologies, and China’s position is set to become even more dominating. Battery research has grown rapidly with a high citation impact, whereas the volume of research for the other enabling technologies was more constant during 2017–2021. Automakers’ research that has led to scientific publications was specifically studied. Ford Motor Company was the automaker with the highest number of vehicle electrification publications during 2017–2021. A large share of the automakers’ publications was co-authored with academic actors, and such publications were rewarded with a higher citation impact than those without. However, the share of international co-publications among the automakers was meager. It is concluded that the analysis of vehicle electrification publications gives an overview of the rapidly developing field. Moreover, the analysis of automakers’ involvement in such research is one way of obtaining one perspective on their strategies and priorities.

Mapping the global research landscape on nutritional support for patients with gastrointestinal malignancy: visualization analysis.

Early nutritional treatment is crucial for the care of patients with operable and advanced gastrointestinal malignancies. Therefore, much research has focused on nutritional support for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the global scientific output and activity with respect to nutritional support and gastrointestinal malignancy. We searched in Scopus for publications on gastrointestinal cancer and nutritional assistance published between January 2002 and December 2021. Then, using VOSviewer 1.6.18 and Microsoft Excel 2013, we conducted bibliometric analysis and visualization. A total of 906 documents were published between 2002 and 2021, including 740 original articles (81.68%) and 107 reviews (11.81%). China ranked first (298 publications, 32.89%), Japan ranked second (86 publications, 9.49%) and the USA ranked third (84 publications, 9.27%). The organisation with the highest number of publications was the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College from China, with 14 articles, followed by the Peking Union Medical College Hospital from China and the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron from Spain (13 publications for each). Before 2016, most studies focused on 'nutrition support for patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery'. However, the latest trends showed that 'nutrition support and clinical outcomes in gastrointestinal malignancies' and 'malnutrition in patients with gastrointestinal cancer' would be more widespread in the future. This review is the first bibliometric study to provide a thorough and scientific analysis of gastrointestinal cancer and nutritional support trends worldwide over the last 20 years. This study can aid researchers in decision-making by helping them understand the frontiers and hotspots in nutrition support and gastrointestinal cancer research. Future institutional and international collaboration is expected to accelerate the advancement of gastrointestinal cancer and nutritional support research and investigate more efficient treatment methods.

Whose job is it anyway? A qualitative investigation into the influence of agents, race organisers, and sponsors on the risk of doping in elite distance running

ABSTRACT Agents, race-organisers, and sponsors have a key influence in shaping the world of elite professional distance running. Yet to date this important but hard-to-reach stakeholder group has been omitted from the global research landscape of doping and anti-doping. The purpose of this study is to address this gap in the literature and explore the systematic contributors to doping in elite long-distance running, along with potential solutions to this issue, from this influential perspective. Thirteen in-depth interviews were conducted with agents (n = 8) of world-class long-distance runners, major race organisers (n = 3), and sports marketing managers for global brands (n = 2). The interviews were conducted via the phone, audio-recorded, and transcribed verbatim. Reflexive thematic analysis generated three themes which focused on: 1) The framework of professional distance running and the contextual aspects which may contribute to doping risk, 2) the impact of various recruitment strategies on doping and anti-doping, and 3) the lessons that can be learnt from the participants’ first-hand experiences with doping cases and/or managing anti-doping requirements. Reflecting on the sector rather than the sample, the results highlighted that not all commercial stakeholders feel responsible for anti-doping. Collective responsibility from all stakeholders, which is currently borne by some and not others, is necessary to minimise doping in distance running. The challenge is how to convince all stakeholders of their share of the responsibility.

Global research landscape on artificial intelligence in arthroplasty: A bibliometric analysis.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has promising applications in arthroplasty. In response to the knowledge explosion resulting from the rapid growth of publications, we applied bibliometric analysis to explore the research profile and topical trends in this field. The articles and reviews related to AI in arthroplasty were retrieved from 2000 to 2021. The Java-based Citespace, VOSviewer, R software-based Bibiometrix, and an online platform systematically evaluated publications by countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords. A total of 867 publications were included. Over the past 22 years, the number of AI-related publications in the field of arthroplasty has grown exponentially. The United States was the most productive and academically influential country. The Cleveland Clinic was the most prolific institution. Most publications were published in high academic impact journals. However, collaborative networks revealed a lack and imbalance of inter-regional, inter-institutional, and inter-author cooperation. Two emerging research areas represented the development trends: major AI subfields such as machine learning and deep learning, and the other is research related to clinical outcomes. AI in arthroplasty is evolving rapidly. Collaboration between different regions and institutions should be strengthened to deepen our understanding further and exert critical implications for decision-making. Predicting clinical outcomes of arthroplasty using novel AI strategies may be a promising application in this field.

Bibliometric Analysis of Global Research Landscape and Hotspots on Dysmenorrhea: Where are We Now?

Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecological condition among women of childbearing age and remains a challenging public health issue. This study aimed to visualize profiles and hotspots in dysmenorrhea research through a bibliometric analysis to deepen the understanding of knowledge in this field. Articles and reviews on dysmenorrhea published from 2000 to 2021 were collected. We summarized standard bibliometric indicators. Publications were systematically assessed in terms of country, institution, author, journal, reference, and keywords using Citespace, VOSviewer, Bibliometric, and an online platform. Besides, correlation analyses of country-specific characteristics and bibliometric indicators were performed. 3407 publications were included. Dysmenorrhea-related publications have been increasing steadily annually. China and the United States were the most productive and academically influential countries, respectively. Correlation analysis revealed that economic power is an essential factor influencing scientific activity. However, collaboration in dysmenorrhea research remained weak. Natl Yang Ming Univ and Vercellini P were the most productive institution and influential author, respectively. A significant proportion of dysmenorrhea research was published in high-impact journals and it was explored at a multidisciplinary level. Current research topics focus on two primary areas: (1) pathophysiology, such as pathogenesis, oxidative stress, and functional connectivity, and (2) public health impacts, such as quality of life, burden, depression, and exercise. Dysmenorrhea research has received extensive attention from scholars and is rapidly evolving. Improved collaboration and interdisciplinary exploration may advance this field. Public health research and pathophysiological exploration of dysmenorrhea are current research hotspots and may also be a focus of research in the coming years.

Spatial video projection and public open spaces: A distinct bibliometric study approach

In the 21st century, digital technologies have begun to play a more active role in ensuring sustainability. This situation has led to studies examining the interaction between digital technologies and different academic disciplines in many study areas. In terms of spatial planning and design disciplines, this study focuses on spatial video projection (SVP). Through bibliometric analysis, this paper aims to identify and locate an assortment of SVP technologies and contemporary urban public open spaces (POSs) within the global research landscape. Utilizing WOS, Scopus, and the VOSviewer software, a 6-phase process is used to evaluate the current research landscape. The phases include: identifying groups of keywords for cross-examination within the manuscripts; exploring words inside articles with their dominancy levels and linkage clarity through bibliometric analysis; developing a grading technique regarding dominancy levels; grouping graded words into thematic fields; calculating overall values of each of the fields for both databases settings; and comparing the fields for developing discussions and strategies. The findings of this study indicate that architectural disciplines lack SVP-related research. In future academic studies, the approach used in this study could be used to develop topic selection strategies in multidisciplinary settings. In addition, it is expected that SVP will offer potential applications for enhancing the quality of the shared public spatial experience of cities. Thus, this study also forms a cornerstone for further research investigating the potential of utilizing SVP in POSs for the sustainability of cities.

Global research landscape and trends of lung cancer immunotherapy: A bibliometric analysis.

Immunotherapy for lung cancer has been a hot research area for years. This bibliometric analysis aims to present the research trends on lung cancer immunotherapy. On 1 July, 2022, the authors identified 2,941 papers on lung cancer immunotherapy by the Web of Science and extracted their general information and the total number of citations. A bibliometric analysis was carried out to present the research landscape, demonstrate the research trends, and determine the most cited papers (top papers) as well as major journals on lung cancer immunotherapy. After that, recent research hotspots were analyzed based on the latest publications in major journals. These 2,941 papers were cited a total of 122,467 times. "Nivolumab vs. docetaxel in advanced non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer" published in 2015 by Borghaei H etal. was the most cited paper (5,854 citations). Among the journals, New England Journal of Medicine was most influential. Corresponding authors represented China took part in most articles (904) and papers with corresponding authors from the USA were most cited (139.46 citations per paper). Since 2015, anti-PD-(L)1 has become the hottest research area. This bibliometric analysis comprehensively and quantitatively presents the research trends and hotspots based on thousands of publications, and further suggests future research directions. Moreover, the results can benefit researchers to select journals and find potential collaborators. This study can help researchers get a comprehensive impression of the research landscape, historical development, and recent hotspots in lung cancer immunotherapy and provide inspiration for further research.

Mapping the Contributions of the Review of Educational Research to Education, 1931–2020

The goals of this bibliometric review of the Review of Educational Research were to gain insights into the evolution of the journal and identify its key contributions to the education literature. Bibliographic data associated with the full set of 3,022 review articles published in RER from 1931 through 2021 were exported from Scopus for bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer software. The review confirmed that RER remains rooted in the American education context, with scholars located outside the United States accounting for only 6% of the RER corpus. The review identified authors and documents published in RER that have had the greatest impact on the broader education literature. Author co-citation analysis visualized the “intellectual structure” of the RER corpus, which is anchored by a “school of thought” associated with Teaching and Learning Strategies and Effects. This research stream has been informed by complementary schools of researchers who have generated theory and research on cognition, teaching, and learning as well as motivation and learning. Although conceptual reviews of research are more prominent, meta-analytic reviews have also come to represent a key pillar in the intellectual structure of RER. Journal co-citation analysis validated the centrality of RER’s place within a community of highly ranked education and psychology journals. The findings confirm the strong disciplinary influence of psychology in shaping the journal’s direction and content. Adapting to a changing global research landscape in education was identified as a key challenge facing RER in the next decade.

Climate Change, Pollution, Deforestation, and Mental Health: Research Trends, Gaps, and Ethical Considerations.

Climate change, pollution, and deforestation have a negative impact on global mental health. There is an environmental justice dimension to this challenge as wealthy people and high-income countries are major contributors to climate change and pollution, while poor people and low-income countries are heavily affected by the consequences. Using state-of-the art data mining, we analyzed and visualized the global research landscape on mental health, climate change, pollution and deforestation over a 15-year period. Metadata of papers were exported from PubMed®, and both relevance and relatedness of terms in different time frames were computed using VOSviewer. Co-occurrence graphs were used to visualize results. The development of exemplary terms over time was plotted separately. The number of research papers on mental health and environmental challenges is growing in a linear fashion. Major topics are climate change, chemical pollution, including psychiatric medication in wastewater, and neurobiological effects. Research on specific psychiatric syndromes and diseases, particularly on their ethical and social aspects is less prominent. There is a growing body of research literature on links between mental health, climate change, pollution, and deforestation. This research provides a graphic overview to mental healthcare professionals and political stakeholders. Social and ethical aspects of the climate change-mental health link have been neglected, and more research is needed.

Current global research landscape on COVID-19 and cancer: Bibliometric and visualization analysis.

Cancer is a severe public health issue that seriously jeopardizes global health. In individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), cancer is considered an independent risk factor for severe illness and increased mortality. To identify research hotspots and prospects, we used bibliometrics to examine the global production of COVID-19 literature published in the field of oncology. Data on publication output were identified based on the Scopus database between January 1, 2020, and June 21, 2022. This study used VOSviewer to analyze collaboration networks among countries and assess the terms most often used in the titles and abstracts of retrieved publications to determine research hotspots linked to cancer and COVID-19. The Impact Index Per Article for the top 10 high-cited papers collected from Reference Citation Analysis (RCA) are presented. A total of 7015 publications were retrieved from the database. The United States published the greatest number of articles (2025; 28.87%), followed by Italy (964; 13.74%), the United Kingdom (839; 11.96%), and China (538; 7.67%). The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (n = 205, 2.92%) ranked first, followed by the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (n = 176, 2.51%). The European Journal of Cancer (n = 106, 1.51%) ranked first, followed by the Frontiers in Oncology (n = 104, 1.48%), Cancers (n = 102, 1.45%), and Pediatric Blood and Cancer (n = 95; 1.35%). The hot topics were stratified into "cancer care management during the COVID-19 pandemic"; and "COVID-19 vaccines in cancer patients". This is the first bibliometric analysis to determine the present state and upcoming hot themes related to cancer and COVID-19 and vice versa using VOSviewer during the early stages of the pandemic. The emergence of hot themes related to cancer and COVID-19 may aid researchers in identifying new research areas in this field.

Mapping the global research landscape on insulin resistance: Visualization and bibliometric analysis.

BACKGROUNDInsulin resistance is a risk factor for metabolic syndromes and is associated with a wide variety of metabolic illnesses, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.AIMTo investigate and map global insulin resistance studies.METHODSA bibliometric methodology was applied to the literature retrieved from the Scopus database and Reference Citation Analysis (https://www.referencecitationanalysis.com) by using a validated search strategy. The study period was limited from 2002 to 2021. Bibliometric indicators and mapping were presented.RESULTSA total of 26808 articles on the topic of insulin resistance were included in the Scopus database. The articles included research articles (n = 21918; 81.76%), review articles (n = 2641; 9.85%), and letters (n = 653; 2.44%). During the study period, 136 countries contributed to the research on insulin resistance. The highest number of articles was from the United States (n = 7360; 27.45%), followed by China (n = 3713; 13.85%), Japan (n = 1730, 6.45%), Italy (n = 1545; 5.54%), and the United Kingdom (n = 1484; 5.54%). The retrieved articles identified two main research themes: “inflammatory mechanisms in the regulation of insulin resistance” and “mechanisms linking obesity to insulin resistance”.CONCLUSIONOur data show that insulin resistance has steadily gained interest from researchers, as evidenced by the number of citations and yearly publications. Publications have grown significantly in the last decade, while low-income countries with greater burdens continue to produce fewer publications in this field. This approach might assist researchers in choosing new research areas and recognizing research hotspots and frontiers. In the future, perhaps high-quality clinical evidence will be acquired.

The global landscape of approved antibody therapies.

Antibody therapies have become an important class of therapeutics in recent years as they have exhibited outstanding efficacy and safety in the treatment of several major diseases including cancers, immune-related diseases, infectious disease and hematological disease. There has been significant progress in the global research and development landscape of antibody therapies in the past decade. In this review, we have collected available data from the Umabs Antibody Therapies Database (Umabs-DB, https://umabs.com) as of 30 June 2022. The Umabs-DB shows that 162 antibody therapies have been approved by at least one regulatory agency in the world, including 122 approvals in the US, followed by 114 in Europe, 82 in Japan and 73 in China, whereas biosimilar, diagnostic and veterinary antibodies are not included in our statistics. Although the US and Europe have been at the leading position for decades, rapid advancement has been witnessed in Japan and China in the past decade. The approved antibody therapies include 115 canonical antibodies, 14 antibody-drug conjugates, 7 bispecific antibodies, 8 antibody fragments, 3 radiolabeled antibodies, 1 antibody-conjugate immunotoxin, 2 immunoconjugates and 12 Fc-Fusion proteins. They have been developed against 91 drug targets, of which PD-1 is the most popular, with 14 approved antibody-based blockades for cancer treatment in the world. This review outlined the global landscape of the approved antibody therapies with respect to the regulation agencies, therapeutic targets and indications, aiming to provide an insight into the trends of the global development of antibody therapies.

Mapping the global research landscape and hotspot of exercise therapy and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A bibliometric study based on the web of science database from 2011 to 2020.

Background: The application of exercise therapy (ET) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is generating increasing clinical efficacy and social-economic value. In this study, research trends, evolutionary processes and hot topics in this field are detailed, as well as predictions of future development directions. Methods: Search for literature in the field of COPD and ET and analyze data to generate knowledge graphs using VOSiewer and CiteSpace software. The time frame for the search was from 2011 to January 2021. Then we extracted full-text key information (such as title, journal category, publication date, author, country and institution, abstract, and keyword) and obtained the co-citation analysis. Use hierarchal clustering analysis software developed by VOSviewer to map common citations, and use Citespace software to plot trend networks. Results: The United States topped the list with 27.91% of the number of articles posted, followed by the UK at 25.44%. Imperial College London was the highest number of article publications in institutions, followed by Maastricht University and the University of Toronto. The Royal Brompton Harefield NHS Foundation Trust was one of many research institutions and currently holds the highest average citations per item (ACI) value, followed by Imperial College London and the University of Leuven. Judging from the number of publications related to ET and COPD, it is mainly published in cell biology, respiratory pulmonary diseases, and rehabilitation experiments study medicine. The European Respiration Journal is the most widely published in this field, followed by the International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Respiratory Medicine. Conclusion: COPD combined with ET is widely used in clinical practice and is on the rise. A distinctive feature of the field is multidisciplinary integration. Rehabilitation research for COPD involves multidisciplinary collaboration, tissue engineering, and molecular biology mechanism studies to help patients remodel healthy breathing. Multidisciplinary rehabilitation measures provide a solid foundation for advancing clinical efficacy in the field of COPD.

Investigating the global research landscape, barriers, and facilitators of scientific productivity in ethnomedicinal research in diabetes mellitus

Currently, the number of ethnomedicinal studies in diabetes has increased, resulting in more medical data and treatment strategies using traditional medicine for diabetes. Bibliometric analysis can be applied to understand better the research landscape of ethnomedicinal studies related to diabetes. This study described the global research landscape, research hotspots, and future direction of ethnomedicinal studies in diabetes. The Scopus database retrieved articles related to ethnomedicinal studies in diabetes. The search was conducted from inception to 2021. Bibliometric information was extracted from the database, and network visualization was performed using VOSviewer software. This study showed a continuous increase in ethnomedicinal research related to diabetes. China, India, and Bangladesh produced the most significant number of papers in this field. The top journals that published ethnomedicinal studies related to diabetes include the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, the American Eurasian Journal of Sustainable Agriculture, and Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Lastly, gross domestic product (GDP), GDP per capita, research funding, researchers and physicians per million people, and collaborations with other countries were correlated to the scientific productivity in ethnomedicinal research in diabetes. Leaders and authorities in different countries, especially those that still heavily rely on traditional medicine, consider increasing their financial support to physicians and researchers and foster more collaborations with other countries to facilitate ethnomedicinal studies related to diabetes. This endeavor may help find herbal medicines that may help control and manage diabetes, especially in low-resource settings. • We obtained 1004 publications for ethnomedicinal research on diabetes. • China, India, and Bangladesh are the most productive countries in this field. • Journal of Ethnopharmacology is the most productive journal in this field. • International collaboration promotes research productivity in this field. • Funding, researchers, and physicians promote research productivity in this field.

Bibliometric Insights of Global Research Landscape in Mitophagy.

Background: Autophagy is a highly regulated and evolutionarily conserved process in eukaryotes which is responsible for protein and organelle degradation. Although this process was described over 60 years ago, the selective autophagy of mitochondria (mitophagy) was recently coined in 2005. Research on the topic of mitophagy has made rapid progress in the past decade, which proposed to play critical roles in human health and disease. This study aimed to visualize the scientific outputs and research trends of mitophagy. Methods: Articles and reviews related to the topic of mitophagy were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection on 30 November 2021. Two kinds of software (CiteSpace and VOSviewer) were used to perform a visualized analysis of countries/regions, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords. Results: From 2005 to 2021, total 5844 publications on mitophagy were identified for final analysis. The annual number of publications grew yearly over the past 17 years. United States (N = 2025) and Chinese Academy of Sciences is the leading country and institute (N = 112) ranked by the number of publications, respectively. The most productive author was Jun Ren (N = 38) and Derek P. Narendra obtained the most co-cited times (2693 times). The journals with the highest output and the highest co-citation frequency were Autophagy (N = 208) and Journal of Biological Chemistry (co-citation: 17226), respectively. Analyses of references and keywords suggested that “mechanism of mitochondrial quality control”, “molecule and signaling pathway in mitophagy”, and “mitophagy related diseases” were research hotspots, and parkin-mediated mitophagy and its roles in skeletal muscle and inflammation-related diseases may be the frontiers of future research. Conclusion: Although mitophagy research has flourished and attracted attention from all over the world, the regional imbalance in the development of mitophagy research was observed. Our results provided a comprehensive global research landscape of mitophagy from 2005– 2021 from a perspective of bibliometrics, which may serve as a reference for future mitophagy studies.

Mapping the global research landscape on nutrition and the gut microbiota: Visualization and bibliometric analysis.

BACKGROUNDNutrition is a significant modifiable element that influences the composition of the gastrointestinal microbiota, implying the possibility of therapeutic diet methods that manipulate the composition and diversity of the microbial.AIMTo overview research papers on nutrition and gut microbiota and determines the hotspots in this field at the global level.METHODSScopus and Reference Citation Analysis were used to construct a bibliometric technique. It was decided to create bibliometric indicators and mapping as in most previous studies. 2012 through 2021 served as the study's timeframe.RESULTSA total of 5378 documents from the Scopus database were selected for analysis. Of all retrieved studies, 78.52% were research papers (n = 4223), followed by reviews (n = 820; 15.25%). China ranked first with a total number of articles of 1634 (30.38%), followed by the United States in second place with a total number of articles of 1307 (24.3%). In the last decade, emerging hotspots for gut microbiota and nutrition research included "gut microbiota metabolism and interaction with dietary components", "connection between the gut microbiota and weight gain", and "the influence of high-fat diet and gut microbiota on metabolic disorders".CONCLUSIONThis is the first thorough bibliometric analysis of nutrition and gut microbiota publications conducted on a global level. Investigation of the association between nutrition/diet and the gut microbiota is still in its infancy and will be expanded in the future. However, according to recent trends, the “effect of gut microbiota and high-fat diet on metabolic disorders" will be an increasing concern in the future.
