Eight selections from 1991 progenies, selected for root rot resistance, were tested in an infested field. Field resistance was at a high level in all selections, and most selections combined resistance with better yield, fruit size and firmness than 'Asker' (='Winkler’s Samling'). Fruit quality is almost acceptable for fresh market use. Seedlings from 1997 crosses were planted in a root rot infested field for selection. First year results indicate a high level of resistance in the families 'Algonquin' x 'Asker', 'Asker' x 'Glen Ample', 'Asker' x 'Qualicum' and 'Glen Ample' x 'Qualicum'. Root rot susceptibility of the recently released Norwegian cultivars 'Frosta', 'Hitra', 'Stiora', 'Tambar' and 'Varnes' was tested. In pot tests all cultivars were heavily attacked by the disease. Except for 'Varnes', results from field test indicate some field resistance.
