Glossopteris shailae, a new fossil leaf from Upper Permian (Raniganj Formation) of India

A new species of Glossopteris, i.e., G. Shailae is reported from the Kumarpur Sandstone (Raniganj Formation), West Bengal. Morphologically the leaf is characterised by an evanescent midrib. The cuticular structure of the leaf is also different from those of known species of the genus Glossopteris.

Glossopterideas de fluviópolis (permiano superior) no sul do Estado do Parana

This paper describes the Glossopteris species of a compact carbonaceous siltstone of the Upper Permian Serra Alta (or Terezina?) Formation (Paraná Basin), cropping out along the right margin of the Iguacu River, néar Fluviópolis, State of Parana, southern Brazil. The study of over 100 specimens related to the genus Glossopteris showed that they predominantly are of two possibly new species. However, because the small number of specimens with well preserved venation does not constitute an adequate basis for the creation of new species, the specimens are here referred to Glossopteris cf. G. occidentalis and Glossopteris cf. G. angustifolia

Glossopterid Leaves from the Middle Jurassic of Oaxaca, Mexico

Leaves indistinguishable from those of the late Paleozoic genus Glossopteris occur in Middle Jurassic beds in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. If they are biologically related to the Permo-Carboniferous Glossopteris, the occurrence in Mexico is the latest report of the genus. Alternatively, these leaves may have belonged to another group of plants with foliage similar to that of Glossopteris, but with a different reproductive structure.

The geology of Buckley and Darwin Nunataks, Beardmore Glacier, Ross Dependency, Antarctica

Abstract The geology of the Buckley and Darwin Nunataks at the head of the Beardmore Glacier, Ross Dependency, Antarctica, is described. Cambrian Archaeocyathid-bearing Shackleton Limestone is unconformably overlain by about 300 ft of hard, pinkish white quartz sandstone with occasional beds of greenish grey and dark grey, micaceous siltstone of the Alexandra Formation. This in turn is conformably overlain by about 400 ft of very well bedded fissile mudstone and siltstone of the McKellar Formation. About 2,000 ft of sandstone and siltstone, the upper beds of which contain plentiful plant fossils of the Permian genus Glossopteris, overlies the McKellar Formation and can be subdivided and correlated with the Lower and Middle Buckley Coal Measures. Intrusions of Ferrar Dolerite are common and 13 representative specimens have been described.

Studies in the Glossopteris flora of India - 31. Some remarks on the genus Glossopteris sternb

The genus Glossopteris so abundant in the southern Palaeozoic flora has neither been properly circumscribed nor correctly delimited into species so far. The reason for this is a complete lack of accepted criteria on which to base these delimitations. In the present paper, the views expressed and the work done so far on this problem have been summarized. On the basis of the study of several hundred specimens from the Barakar and Raniganj stages as well as a survey of published literature some suggestions have been put forth for bringing harmony in the specific circumscription within this genus.

Studies in the Glossopteris Flora of India - 22. On some species of the genus glossopteris from the Raniganj stage of the Raniganj Coalfield, Bengal

This paper contains a description of some Glossopteris species recorded for the first time from the Raniganj stage of the Lower Gondwana of India and also further observations on two species already known from this horizon. The species described are Glossopteris cf. G. fibrosa, Glossopteris sp., G. intermedia, G. emarginata, G. linearis, G. taeniopteroides G. decipiens, G. longicaulis, G. tortuosa, G. verticillata, G. euryneura sp. nov. and G. retusa sp. nov.
