China has embarked upon a path to expand their tourist product. This expansion will be in the form of twelve destination resort complexes. With generous investment incentive packages, money is flowing into several projects. From the limited information available at this time, it appears that there is little attention being given to neither the current visitor profile nor is there any clear marketing plan for the specific sites. In this rush to build destination resorts, there are many questions remaining as to the economic and cultural impacts. Certainly, this large scale project will warrant continuous analysis as these developments come on-line in 1996.
