Data from our studies on normal human gastric juice secreted after histamine stimulation indicate that B12 binding capacity in vitro is an excellent indicator of intrinsic factor activity measured in vivo. Volume and nitrogen content of gastric juice do not correlate well with intrinsic factor activity. There is a good correlation between total B12 binding capacity and the amount of binding capacity that can be blocked by spontaneously appearing antibody to intrinsic factor.For purposes of study...
