Communal space design as student interaction in polnep campus

Communal space is a means to do for social interaction, from private to the public. The purpose of this study was conducted to explore the phenomenon of communal space setting of Pontianak State Polytechnic students from 8 departments of study both indoor and outdoor spaces. The research method used is a rationalistic study. The planned activities to be undertaken include the determination of communal places (indoor and outdoor), sample determination, data collection with surveys and interviews, presenting data and analysis and drawing conclusions as a basis for designing communal space for Polnep students. The research were analyzed of building and space character, analysis of space organization and circulation, space requirement analysis, material and color analysis, site analysis, and analysis of inner space elements and outer space elements. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Polnep campus environment requires the addition of public space for students in conducting formal activities outside lectures. Some activity which to do some student such as activity to waiting lecturer, do some coursework, discussion, relaxation, extracurricular activities, and other informal activities still require adequate space infrastructure and are equipped with street furnitures such as garden lights, benches, outer space markers and shade vegetation.

Sposol: 5 In 1 Smart Portable Solar Light

Smart Portable Solar Light is a project based on a circuit obtained through the internet connection. A few modifications have been done to the original circuit; original circuit uses eight LEDs while this project only uses one main LED. The main source of this system is harvest form the sun. The sun’s radiation is converted to electrical energy that is supplied to a battery, which acts as a power storage for the system. Another set of batteries is used as the structure of the lamp is design to be portable. At the detachable section of the lamp, there is a power point that can be used as a charger for small voltage devices such as mp3s not exceeding 5V. Therefore, this project is suitable to be used as a stand lamp as well as torchlight. Keywords: stand lamp; garden light; emergency light; torchlight; power source

융복합 담장 디자인 연구

본 연구는 벽화의 기법이 적용된 융복합적 성격의 판장형 담장 디자인을 제시한다. 기본적인 구조는 담장 평면에 회화적 요소를 담아 벽화가 그려진 담장이 된다. 여기에 담장 기둥을 중심으로 전력 통신 설비를 내장함으로써 담장의 고유한 기능 외에 가로나 정원조명, 방범설비로 활용될 수 있도록 기능면에서 복합성과 확장성을 갖추었다. 담장을 구성하는 부분들은 공장에서 규격에 맞춰 생산할 수 있도록 고려했다. 이러한 디자인 제안을 통해 담장의 기본적인 역할인 공간 구획을 넘어 개인과 사회적 소통을 유도할 수 있는 담장을 제시하고자 했다. 이 결과 심미적 효용뿐만 아니라 범죄예방 등의 사회적 기능에 까지 도움을 주는 폭넓은 융복합적 기능을 구현하는 담장으로 기능할 수 있다. This study suggests a board fence design with a convergence-style mural. The basic structure contains pictorial factors with mural paintings on the fence. It is also equipped with electricity facilities inside the fence itself, so it has not only the unique function of the fence but also the complexity and expandability in order to be used as a garden lighting and security alarm system. All the components meet the standard so they can be manufactured in a factory. Through this design proposal, this study tries to suggest a fence which encourages personal or social communication one another as well as the basic function of the fence. As a result, the fence realizes a broad convergence function of its usefulness for social functioning such as the crime prevention as well as an esthetic function.

Performance of new generation pole light

This paper describes the design and implementation of a standalone photovoltaic power supply which caters for garden lighting scheme. New Generation Pole Light (NGPL) consists of three parts which are light dependent resistor (LDR) and pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensors, microcontroller and light emitting diode (LED) and finally, solar charging system. During the night, LED is switched on with two operating modes which are ultra-bright lighting for a predetermine period (when human presence is detected) and dim lighting. Meanwhile, LED is switched off at day time and solar charging system will recover the capacity of discharged battery. NGPL provides portable, sustainable, environmental friendly and requires minimal maintenance for outdoor lighting scheme for both urban and rural areas.

Assessing the value of the Garden Moth Scheme citizen science dataset: how does light trap type affect catch?

AbstractDone well, citizen science projects can gather datasets of a size and scope far larger than would be possible using professional researchers. This study uses data gathered in Britain by the Garden Moth Scheme (GMS). Participants run garden light traps for at least 26 weeks a year and complete garden questionnaires detailing garden habitat and nearby landscape features. We used data exploration and generalised linear modelling (GLM) to investigate whether the data can be used to generate reliable research findings, testing the effect of moth light trap type on moth catch. Robinson traps, then Skinner traps, then Heath traps were found to catch the highest abundance and diversity of moths. Mercury vapour bulbs, then blended light bulbs, then actinic bulbs collected the highest abundance and diversity of moths. The GMS dataset can be used to generate useful and reliable research findings, and can be used in the future to investigate temporal and spatial trends in moth assemblage. Under international law, the use of mercury vapour bulbs will be phased out in coming years, leading to changes in the way moth assemblages are sampled. Information on the relative efficacy of different bulb types will aid the analysis of long‐term moth datasets after these changes.

Solar Lighting with Advanced Intelligent Controller

This paper reports the design and performance details of a new solar lighting project in Hong Kong. An advanced intelligent-controller was developed for this solar lighting project, which consists of 15 solar street lighting systems and 5 solar garden lighting systems at the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. The controller not only performs normal control functions, but also improves the charge/discharge characteristics between battery and photovoltaic panels. The floating and pulse charging techniques were adopted in the controlling system. Monitoring results have shown that the advanced intelligent controller operation is accurate, reliabie and satisfactory. The PV lighting systems are switched-on from direct to floating charging status before approaching the battery’s full capacity for reducing the battery polarizations. Voltage pulses are developed by the controller to charge the batteriesfor cloudy/rainy days so that the size of the battery and PV panels is smaller for reducing capital investment.

Light-induced variation in the growth and dynamics of transplanted ramets of the understory herb, Aster acuminatus.

Ramets of the understory herb, Aster acuminatus, were transplanted from two source populations into eight understory garden sites that varied in light and soil moisture levels. Ramet growth, clonal growth, flowering and survivorship were monitored for three growing seasons. Large differences among gardens in ramet growth, clonal growth and flowering developed in the first growing season and increased in the next two years. This variation was positively correlated with garden light level but not at all with soil moisture. Mortality rates were low in all gardens and showed that genets from any particular source could survive over a broad range of environmental conditions. There was no conclusive evidence for any source population differences in the capacity to survive or grow in different environments. The rapid, light-induced responses of transplanted ramets resulted in garden populations very similar in appearance to natural populations experiencing similar light regimes. These results combined with those from other studies of A. acuminatus provide strong evidence for the importance of light in explaining population patterns and dynamics in this species.
