AbstractThe integration of electromagnetic sensing and wireless communication is considered as one of the fundamental characteristics of the future information society. Here, it is propose to realize the electromagnetic sensing and wireless communication using a single information metasurface. For sensing function, the metasurface serves as a remote sensor that can image the surrounding target and locate the local user based on random receiving patterns. For communication function, the metasurface transmits the sensing information to the local user by modulating the radiation phase of directional beam that points to the local user. Experimental results validate the ability of the information metasurface in electromagnetic sensing and signal transmission to designated user, showing great potentials of the information metasurface in realizing intelligent, universal, and ubiquitous electromagnetic terminals in the future information society.
