ABSTRACT Recent interest in human service program integration at the local, regional, and state levels has led to increased attention on the management of multiprogram agencies. Focus on the management process has resulted in new efforts to develop auditing procedures and case management mechanisms. The concern for developing new personnel management systems, however, has been absent. This paper reports on part of a larger study designed to define the nature of human service work through the use of functional job analysis. The results of this study include a human service task bank that represents the first multiprogram effort to define in task-specific format the range of human service work from direct service workers to district program administrators.
