Blockchain in Agro-Industrial Complex

Abstract The article reviews the available projects and programs using digital technologies and the results of their adaptation in agriculture and specifically in the agro-industrial complex. Tokenization makes any production sector attractive and transparent for investment. The blockchain enables an investor to understand and estimate where the money is invested and what the result will be, how large the final profit will be and whether there will be an additional investment income from the agribusiness. Most of the initial efforts in blockchain in agribusiness are trackable achievements. The authors point out that it is possible to create an efficient supply chain that provides full product serviceability and improves the transactions efficiency by using modern digital technologies. It is about improving margins by reducing bureaucracy and supporting continuity of business problem-solving with blockchain. In doing so, blockchain provides all stakeholders with a common source of reliable information for the agro-industrial and logistics chain.

The effects of dynamic learning and the forgetting process on an optimising modelling for full-service repair pricing contracts for medical devices

In order to improve the profitability and customer service management of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in a market where full-service (FS) and on-call service (OS) co-exist, this article extends the optimising modelling for pricing FS repair contracts with the effects of dynamic learning and forgetting. Along with considering autonomous learning in maintenance practice, this study also analyses how induced learning and forgetting process in a workplace put impact on the pricing optimising model of FS contracts in the portfolio of FS and OS. A numerical analysis based on real data from a medical industry proves that the enhanced FS pricing model discussed here has two main advantages: (1) It could prominently improve repair efficiency, and (2) It help OEMs gain better profits compared to the original FS model and the sole OS maintenance. Sensitivity analysis shows that if internal failure rate increases, the optimised FS price rises gradually until reaching the maximum value, and profitability to the OEM increases overall; if frequency of induced learning goes up, the optimal FS price rises after a short-term downward trend, with a stable profitability to the OEM.

Influence of socio-demographic factors on the use of maternal health care among Muslim women in urban slums of Mumbai, India

Background: Low and middle-income countries such as India face significant challenges in improving maternal health and reducing maternal mortality rate. To combat this problem, it is essential to utilize maternal health-care services. Objective: This study aims to assess the utilization of maternal health-care services (Antenatal care [ANC] and skilled attendance at birth) and the determining factors of maternal health-care utilization. Materials and Methods: This study is cross-sectional. The study is carried out in an urban slum in Mumbai, India. The respondents were selected using a multistage sampling procedure, and 300 Muslim women who delivered in the past 2 years in the reproductive age group (15–49 years) were selected. The data were collected using a structured interview schedule. Data were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. Results: The study shows that maternal health-care utilization among respondents was unsatisfactory. Only 43.8% of the respondents utilized full ANC service and 27.3% still delivered at home with unskilled birth attendance (traditional Dai). A medical emergency, high cost, and lack of quality of services were the most common reasons to deliver at home. Respondents’ age at marriage, education (respondents and partners), monthly income, number of children, and type of family are the most important determining factors for the utilization of maternal health-care services. Conclusion: Better utilization of maternal health-care services can be achieved by improving the overall socioeconomic status of Muslim women. To improve maternal healthcare, special attention is required to be paid to the education of women and spouses. Furthermore, policies may address the women’s subordinate position in socioeconomic parameters. Similarly, close monitoring is required by the government through different agencies on the utilization of maternal health-care services.

Contextualizing the standard maternal continuum of care in Pakistan: an application of revised recommendation of the World Health Organization.

This study utilizes recent nationally representative data to contextualize the standard maternal continuum of care (SMCoC) in Pakistan. The revised SMCoC framework encompasses at least eight antenatal care visits, skilled birth attendants during delivery, and postnatal care within 48 h of childbirth. The study used a sample of 3,887 ever-married women aged 15-49 from the latest Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) conducted in 2017-18. Several statistical methods were employed: descriptive statistics, bivariate, multilevel logistic regression models, and Fairlie decomposition analysis. Only 12% of women had accessed full SMCoC services in Pakistan. Education and the wealth quintile emerged as pivotal factors influencing the utilization of SMCoC. The likelihood of full SMCC utilization was more likely among higher educated women (OR: 3.37; 95% CI: 2.16-5.25) and those belonging to the wealthiest household wealth quintile (OR: 4.95; 95% CI: 2.33-5.51). Media exposure, autonomy, healthcare accessibility, residence, and region were also identified as significant predictors of SMCoC utilization among women. In conclusion, while most women did not utilize full SMCoC services in Pakistan, the pattern is substantially varied by background characteristics. Education, wealth quintile, mass media exposure, and autonomy were significant factors, along with geographical aspects such as healthcare accessibility and region. The study underscores the need for a multifaceted approach to ensure equitable access to full SMCoC services for women in Pakistan, addressing individual, socioeconomic, and geographical factors.

Coverage of Antenatal Care Services in a Rural Area of District Nuh, Haryana

Background: The district Nuh has been declared as the most backward district of Haryana state and is also listedamong the 108 most backward districts of India identified by the National Institute for Transformation of India(NITI) Aayog. National Family Health Survey-4 (NFHS-4) conducted during 2015-16 reported that only 6.5% ofmothers utilize four antenatal check-ups in district Nuh. This study was carried out to estimate the coverage ofantenatal care services in district Nuh.Methods: A total of 300 pregnant women who were in their 1st trimester were recruited from the rural area ofPrimary Health Centre Nagina starting from January 2022 till December 2022. All eligible study participants wereinterviewed through house-to-house visits to assess the coverage of antenatal care received by them.Results: A total of 83 (27.6%) participants were primigravida, and 217 (72.3%) were multigravida. Only 25 (8.33%)participants reported receiving full antenatal care services which include early registration of pregnancy (within12 weeks), a minimum of four ANC visits, at least one dose of diphtheria-tetanus toxoid vaccine, and 100 days ofiron & folic acid supplementation.Conclusion: The coverage of antenatal care services received by pregnant women is low despite the availabilityof free government services.

Internet Service Provider User Customer Lifetime Segmentation Analysis using RFM and K-Means Algorithm

The characteristics of each customer can be segmented using RFM (Recency, Frequency, Monetary) which means customer's last transaction time, number of customer transactions, and amount of money spent. The largest amount of revenue services or product is transponder full time use services, support network and contact center application as top 3 results.

Optimal management of full train load services in the shunting yard: A comprehensive study on Shunt-In Shunt-Out policies

A key aim of the European Union is to double freight rail traffic by 2050 in order to reduce pollution emissions and alleviate congestion by shifting traffic from roads to rail networks. To accomplish this objective, it is crucial to minimize emissions and high costs associated with shunting yard operations while maintaining an acceptable level of service. This research paper introduces a new MINLP model that optimizes the shunt-in and shunt-out (SISO) operations of wagons in a shunting yard that handles full train load services. Additionally, an efficient Multi-Objective Dijkstra Algorithm (MDA) is proposed to handle simultaneous shunt-out operations in a multi-train scenario. The MINLP model takes a mesoscopic approach, aiming to minimize the number of SISO operations while satisfying strategic and tactical objectives such as wagon fleet size, operational costs, and shunting locomotive emissions. Several versions of the mathematical model are described, each employing different Shunt-In (SI) policies with varying criteria for wagon selection and strong goal orientation. The Multi-Objective Dijkstra Algorithm determines the Multi-Objective Shortest Path between mandatory shunts, considering both the time required for shunting and clustering costs. It provides information on the clusters of wagons that need to be shunted out. To assess the effectiveness of the MINLP model, real train timetables for freight trains in the Bettembourg Eurohub Sud Terminal (Luxembourg) are used, and various KPIs related to tactical and strategic objectives are evaluated. Furthermore, the performance of the Multi-Objective Dijkstra Algorithm is compared to the Shunt-Out sub-model, considering average computation time and solution quality in relation to the MINLP model. The computational results demonstrate that the criteria for wagon selection have a significant impact on the analyzed KPIs.

Numerical investigation of cold-formed steel channels with edge-stiffened and unstiffened elongated web holes under shear

Over the past decade, cold-formed steel (CFS) channel sections having edge-stiffened circular web holes have been developed in New Zealand. Such edge-stiffened holes increase the strength of the CFS channel sections, compared to an equivalent section having unstiffened web holes, while still allowing full building service integration. In the case of shear, previous research has found that the use of edge-stiffened web holes significantly improves the shear strength of such channel sections. However, no studies are available in the literature investigating the shear strength of CFS channel sections with edge-stiffened elongated web holes. The issue is addressed herein. Non-linear finite element (FE) analyses are used to investigate the shear strength of CFS channel sections with a shear span aspect ratio of 2.0. The FE models were validated against the experimental test results of sections having unstiffened elongated web holes and edge-stiffened circular web holes; good agreement in terms of the load-displacement curves and failure behaviour was shown. Using the validated FE models, a parametric study was conducted, comprising 2124 finite element analyses (FEA) results. The parametric results were then compared to the design predictions of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI 2016), and Australia/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS 2018) and Wanniarchchi et al. (2017) for unstiffened elongated web holes, showing that the design predictions are unconservative in comparison results. Moreover, the direct strength method (DSM) approach of Pham et al. (2020a and 2023) provides conservative results for channels with unstiffened elongated web holes. It was also found that the design equations proposed by Chen et al. (2022) for edge-stiffened circular web holes were unconservative in predicting the shear strength of channels having edge-stiffened elongated web holes. Therefore, design equations in the form of a shear reduction factor and a modified DSM approach for CFS channel sections having unstiffened and edge-stiffened elongated web holes were proposed. Finally, a reliability analysis was carried out to ensure that the proposed equations are reliable to predict the shear strength of CFS channel sections with edge-stiffened and unstiffened web holes.

Elevating the Educational Mission of "Full-Service" Core Facilities through Formal Biotechnology Workshops.

Core facility laboratories are an essential part of the successful research enterprise of many universities around the world. Core facilities provide state-of-the-art instrumentation and technologies to support research of all faculty, postdocs, and students on a fee-for-service basis. Academic next-generation sequencing cores are typically "full service" facilities, and access to and training on their instrumentation is limited to core staff. To address these limitations, we provided graduate students with technical training at our core facility. We developed a 1-week noncredit-bearing workshop and recruited 6 graduate students (N = 6) as part of a pilot program. The program involved online teaching, classroom-based teaching, and hands-on training in next-generation sequencing library preparation and sequencer operation. A post-participation survey revealed highly positive outcomes in terms of skill development and increased awareness of technologies offered by the core facility. A workshop of this scale could be incorporated into the graduate curriculum and extended to core facilities that focus on other technologies. We believe that introducing formal standardized teaching spearheaded by core facilities would improve the graduate student curriculum and hope that this study can provide guidance on curriculum design for similar workshops.

What are the Primary Drivers of Marketing Success?: Evidence From Brand-Level Data on Restaurants

A multivariate analysis of brand level data from the restaurant industry found that penetration increased with number of units for limited and full service restaurants (LSRs and FSRs) and with customer service experience ratings for FSRs. For both types of restaurants, average purchase frequency increased reliably with the number of units and with perceived value, but not with broader customer experience ratings or the existence of a reward program. Finally, average check size increased with service experience but only for FSRs. Given that brands differ much more in penetration than in average purchase frequency or average check size, these findings suggest that marketing success comes primarily from increased physical and mental availability, with brand differentiation, but not reward programs, also contributing to that success.

2499. What Are We Waiting for? Chronic Hepatitis C Treatment Initiation During Inpatient Admission

Abstract Background Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is highly prevalent among people who inject drugs. This vulnerable population experiences many barriers to engaging with the healthcare system. Evaluating and treating HCV during a hospital stay can be an opportunity to cure and prevent adverse HCV complications in a population that can be difficult to reach in an outpatient setting. Methods This was a retrospective review of treatment outcomes of patients who started on treatment for HCV infection with direct acting antivirals (DAAs) while hospitalized at an academic medical center between January 2022 and January 2023. DAAs were dispensed by outpatient pharmacies and brought into the hospital for patient use. Various teams were involved in the treatment of these patients and level of support varied between groups, ranging from full social services and pharmacy support to follow-up clinic visits only. Data collected included demographics, insurance type, injection drug use, housing status, DAA agents used, treatment duration and completion status, and sustained virological response (SVR) 12 or more weeks post-treatment. Results A total of 17 patients began treatment with DAAs while hospitalized. Sixteen (94%) were treated with glecaprevir-pibrentasvir for 8 weeks, while 1 (6%) received sofosbuvir-velpatasvir for 12 weeks. Sixteen (94%) reported using injection drugs and 12 (71%) reported unstable housing. All patients had government-managed health insurance, with 16 having Medicaid. Twelve (71%) patients completed treatment: 9 of 12 patients who completed treatment attained SVR12 and 3 were lost to follow up after treatment completion. Of the 5 patients who did not finish treatment, 2 attained SVR12 despite incomplete therapy, 1 is not yet due for SVR12, and 2 were lost to follow up. Conclusion In a vulnerable population with barriers to outpatient care, in-hospital evaluation and DAA initiation is a valuable opportunity to cure. Further evaluation is needed to optimize and implement strategies for inpatient HCV treatment initiation. Disclosures All Authors: No reported disclosures

Analysis of omni-channel implementations that are preferred by consumers in clothing sector

Abstract The omni-channel strategy, which presents a continuous purchasing experience to consumers and which provides the full integration of different channels, promises the consumers an effortless, simple, and issueless buying process. In this context, this study aimed to analyze the consumer-preferred omni-channel implementations in clothing sector. At the same time, it also aimed to make suggestions, which are based on consumer desires, to clothing producers and marketers in the light of the obtained findings. An online survey is conducted to volunteer Turkish citizens, who are at the age of 18 or elder and who are the residents of Türkiye, in order to be able to obtain the data, which are used within the scope of this study. The relationships between omni-channel implementations are analyzed using statistical methods, such as exploratory factor analysis, t-test, and analysis of variance, on the basis of clothing sector. According to the obtained study results, Turkish consumers give great importance to omni-channel strategy and its elements. More specifically, they give great importance to the integration between physical and online channels, and they prefer a full information, customer services, and price integration between channels. The study results indicate that the consumers are aware of the advantages of omni-channel strategy and they demand these factors from enterprises, brands, and retailers. The study is detailed and comprehensive on the basis of both scope and used methods. All studies are designed on the basis of clothing sector, and all analyses and evaluations are actualized on this basis. In this context, this study differs and individuates from the other studies in the literature due to these aspects. This study both contributes to the deficiencies in sector’s marketing and retailing areas and to the fulfillment of gap within the literature.

Simulation study on the influence of longitudinal dynamic force on extreme-long heavy-haul trains

PurposeThe objective of this study is to investigate the impact of longitudinal forces on extreme-long heavy-haul trains, providing new insights and methods for their design and operation, thereby enhancing safety, operational efficiency and track system design.Design/methodology/approachA longitudinal dynamics simulation model of the super long heavy haul train was established and verified by the braking test data of 30,000 t heavy-haul combination train on the long and steep down grade of Daqing Line. The simulation model was used to analyze the influence of factors on the longitudinal force of super long heavy haul train.FindingsUnder normal conditions, the formation length of extreme-long heavy-haul combined train has a small effect on the maximum longitudinal coupler force under full service braking and emergency braking on the straight line. The slope difference of the long and steep down grade has a great impact on the maximum longitudinal coupler force of the extreme-long heavy-haul trains. Under the condition that the longitudinal force does not exceed the safety limit of 2,250 kN under full service braking at the speed of 60 km/h the maximum allowable slope difference of long and steep down grade for 40,000 t super long heavy-haul combined trains is 13‰, and that of 100,000 t is only 5‰.Originality/valueThe results will provide important theoretical basis and practical guidance for further improving the transportation efficiency and safety of extreme-long heavy-haul trains.

This article has two objectives, the first is to find out the organization's performance, and the second is the feasibility of West Sulawesi University becoming a State University with a Public Service Agency (BLU). The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques are through interviews, documentation, and observation. Data analysis techniques used in analyzing Organizational Performance and Feasibility to Become PTN BLU (Case Study of West Sulawesi University) There are several steps: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results achieved are that the organizational performance of the University of West Sulawesi has not met the requirements to change status from working unit to BLU. The University of West Sulawesi is not yet able to implement a full public service agency management pattern where the requirements are substantive requirements, technical requirements, and administrative requirements must be met optimally, but Universitas Sulawesi Barat has gradually been fulfilled to become a BLU, where the reference is from the 3 existing requirements. Substantive and technical requirements have been fulfilled but administration has not been fulfilled.

Multi-level marketing system with industrial food processing in Africa: smallholder tomato farmers in Tanzania

Abstract There are few challenges greater than the puzzle of how to move perishable goods from smallholders’ fields to final consumers, particularly where transportation barriers abound. Industrial processing can relax the perishability constraint and improve smallholders’ options. In Iringa, Tanzania, multiple tomato processing establishments and traditional marketing agents are available for farmers to use. Information about the channels is expected to be vital for producers to choose optimally. In this study, we collected field data from 286 smallholder farmers and analyzed their market channel choice using the random utility model implemented with multinomial logit regression. Revenue performance was further evaluated. Our results confirm that access to market information and extension services were associated with higher farm revenue. Women farmers had more concerns than men about lacking information. Market participation differed by size of the business. Farmers with higher harvested quantity were more likely to choose industrial processing. Producers with small farms preferred full marketing service and mid-size farms chose wholesale markets. Agribusiness management scholars may follow similar research design with future attention paid to elicitation of producers’ information about the marketing channels.

Optimising ePrescribing in hospitals through the interoperability of systems and processes: a qualitative study in the UK, US, Norway and the Netherlands

BackgroundInvestment in the implementation of hospital ePrescribing systems has been a priority in many economically-developed countries in order to modernise the delivery of healthcare. However, maximum gains in the safety, quality and efficiency of care are unlikely to be fully realised unless ePrescribing systems are further optimised in a local context. Typical barriers to optimal use are often encountered in relation to a lack of systemic capacity and preparedness to meet various levels of interoperability requirements, including at the data, systems and services levels. This lack of systemic interoperability may in turn limit the opportunities and benefits potentially arising from implementing novel digital heath systems.MethodsWe undertook n = 54 qualitative interviews with key stakeholders at nine digitally advanced hospital sites across the UK, US, Norway and the Netherlands. We included hospitals featuring ‘standalone, best of breed’ systems, which were interfaced locally, and multi-component and integrated electronic health record enterprise systems. We analysed the data inductively, looking at strategies and constraints for ePrescribing interoperability within and beyond hospital systems.ResultsOur thematic analysis identified 4 main drivers for increasing ePrescribing systems interoperability: (1) improving patient safety (2) improving integration & continuity of care (3) optimising care pathways and providing tailored decision support to meet local and contextualised care priorities and (4) to enable full patient care services interoperability in a variety of settings and contexts. These 4 interoperability dimensions were not always pursued equally at each implementation site, and these were often dependent on the specific national, policy, organisational or technical contexts of the ePrescribing implementations. Safety and efficiency objectives drove optimisation targeted at infrastructure and governance at all levels. Constraints to interoperability came from factors such as legacy systems, but barriers to interoperability of processes came from system capability, hospital policy and staff culture.ConclusionsAchieving interoperability is key in making ePrescribing systems both safe and useable. Data resources exist at macro, meso and micro levels, as do the governance interventions necessary to achieve system interoperability. Strategic objectives, most notably improved safety, often motivated hospitals to push for evolution across the entire data architecture of which they formed a part. However, hospitals negotiated this terrain with varying degrees of centralised coordination. Hospitals were heavily reliant on staff buy-in to ensure that systems interoperability was built upon to achieve effective data sharing and use. Positive outcomes were founded on a culture of agreement about the usefulness of access by stakeholders, including prescribers, policymakers, vendors and lab technicians, which was reflected in an alignment of governance goals with system design.

Cooperative generation of photovoltaic solar energy with adoption of microgrids in residential condominiums

The distributed generation of photovoltaic solar energy has grown significantly in recent years and a new opportunity has emerged which is cooperative generation in condominiums. Buildings can compose a microgrid and take advantage of joint operation benefits such as: minimization with shared costs, market opportunities and better protection in scarcity situations. This configuration increases localized energy sustainability and decongests distribution and transmission systems, especially during peak demand times. This research made a case study, in a residential condominium, with white energy tariff, photovoltaic solar energy generation and energy storage in batteries. The methodology included a survey of physical data from the system and stratified the calculations for peak, intermediate and off-peak hours of energy demand. It was concluded that the adoption of the cooperative micronetwork among the tenants, to meet peak consumption, reduced the total investment by 71.2% and payback time by 36.3%, when compared to the individual system and full service to the customer demand.

Virtual twin for healthcare management.

Healthcare is increasingly fragmented, resulting in escalating costs, patient dissatisfaction, and sometimes adverse clinical outcomes. Strategies to decrease healthcare fragmentation are therefore attractive from payer and patient perspectives. In this commentary, a patient-centered smart phone application called Virtual Twin for Healthcare Management (VTHM) is proposed, including its organizational layout, basic functionality, and potential clinical applications. The platform features a virtual twin hub that displays the body and its health data. This is a physiologically based human model that is "virtualized" for the patient based on their unique genetic, molecular, physiological, and disease characteristics. The spokes of the system are a full service and interoperable electronic-health record, accessible to healthcare providers with permission on any device with internet access. Theoretical case studies based on real scenarios are presented to show how VTHM could potentially improve patient care and clinical efficiency. Challenges that must be overcome to turn VTHM into reality are also briefly outlined. Notably, the VTHM platform is designed to operationalize current and future precision medicine initiatives, such as access to molecular diagnostic results, pharmacogenomics-guided prescribing, and model-informed precision dosing.
