The analysis of temperature observations at the meteorological Observatory of Nuwara Eliya (1896 m) and the tea estates Pedro (1900 m) and Park (2000 m) clearly shows the incidence of frost in Ceylon which may occur from December to April only, mainly as ground frost during the night. The mean annual number of frost days amounts to 1.5 days with frost in the air and 8.7 days with ground frost (values for Nuwara Eliya). Usually frost is experienced on single days and frost temperatures only drop slightly below zero. The annual and monthly number of frost days highly varies from year to year.
