Development of a Modified Hilbert Curve Fractal Antenna for Multiband Applications

This paper presents the development of a Modified Hilbert Curve Fractal (MHCF) antenna with parasitic patches for multiband applications. The fractal antenna has been designed on a dual-layer substrate having a dimension of 50 × 60 × 3 mm simultaneously fed by a modified coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed. The geometry of the step feed has been optimized using swarm intelligence-based Dragonfly Optimization (DO) technique to enhance the bandwidth. The antenna offers multiband resonating characteristics with a bandwidth of 0.315 GHz (0.68–0.99 GHz), 3.220 GHz (3.98–7.20 GHz), 2.955 GHz (8.043–10.998 GHz) and 1.94 GHz (12.7–14.64 GHz). The proposed antenna indicates a higher degree of impedance matching with a stable omnidirectional radiation pattern at all resonating frequencies. The reported antenna has been fabricated and tested for the validation of resonating and radiation characteristics. Simulated and measured results are found in good agreement with each other. The fractal antenna is useful for radiolocation in Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band and for aeronautical radionavigation service (ARNS) in C-band, X-band and Ku-band as defined by International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Moore, Minkowski and Koch Curves Based Hybrid Fractal Antenna for Multiband Applications

Today’s world, multiband antenna has immensely beneficial for fulfill the requirements of wireless communication. In this paper, Hybrid Fractal Antenna (HFA) is designed using three popular fractal curves koch, minkowski and moore. The generator curve is created by adding minkowski curve and invert of koch curve. This hybrid generator curve is then superimposed on moore curve to get proposed HFA. FR4 material is used for the design of proposed HFA. The effect of defected ground and dielectric constant of different materials on the performance of antenna is studied. Proposed antenna is fabricated and S11 in dB is measured using Vector Network Analyzer. A comparison between simulated and measured return loss is done. It is found that simulated and measured results are agreement with each other. The antenna parameters such as return loss, VSWR, radiation pattern, gain are described in this article. A gain of 20.1 dB is obtained at frequency 1.70 GHz. The maximum bandwidth of proposed HFA is 2870 MHz and VSWR range varies between 1.887MAX and 1.008MIN. The dimensions of proposed HFA is 41.5 × 37 mm2 which is small as compared to existing hybrid geometries in literature. This proposed HFA can be used for Bluetooth (2.4 GHz), Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g) Wireless LAN (5.5 GHz), Wireless computer networking (2.4 GHz and 5.5 GHz), Wi-MAX (5.20 GHz–5.8 GHz), Satellite communication uplink (5.90 GHz), Military satellite downlink (7.25–7.30 GHz) applications.

Fractal Antenna Design for Multiple Applications

The sudden development in in wireless applications has leveled up the use of antennas. Multiband antennas are used to operate at different frequencies for the reliability in various applications. This paper presents design of a novel fractal antenna for multiband applications. Attributes of proposed antenna are simulated using Ansoft HFSS. Due to the homogeneous property in the design of proposed fractal receiving wire it has the various multiband applications. Proposed Antenna design consists of FR4_epoxy material with dielectric constant of 4.4, height 1.6 mm. The operating frequency is taken as 2.4GHz. The antenna is simulated. The proposed antenna resonates at different frequencies. The results are measured and return losses are compared. Here the geometry of fractal antenna is analyzed for the C band resonating at 6.2 GHz, X band resonating at 11.9 GHz and Ku band resonating at 13.8 GHz for S11<-10db.

Compact metamaterial inspired periwinkle shaped fractal antenna for multiband applications

A compact periwinkle flower shaped fractal antenna loaded with split-ring resonator on either side of the feedline is proposed in this article. The proposed antenna consists of partial ground on flipside and a periwinkle flower petal is located on the rectangular patch. The proposed antenna works in multiband i.e., at 4.1GHz,4.5GHz,4.8Ghz(S-band) at 6.7GHz,6.75GHz(C-band) at 9.4GHz(X-band) and at 12.7(ku) i.e., proposed antenna covers almost one frequency at all radar frequency bands. The proposed antenna has been analyzed and maximum gain of 4dB and radiation efficiency of 87 percent is observed.

SRR loaded periwinkle flower shaped fractal antenna for multiband applications

AbstractThe split ring resonator (SRR) loaded periwinkle flower (PWF) shaped fractal antenna for multiband applications are presented. The CPW‐Fed antenna consists of SRR, which is fixed on the back side of the FR4 and periwinkle petals which are etched on top of the FR4 i.e., on the circular patch. The periwinkle flower‐shaped irregular fractal patch is erected on the substrate whose dimensions are Ws × Ls × h mm3 and the ground is also modified (MG) to achieve multiple frequency bands covering 3.476 GHz at S‐band, 4.844 GHz at C‐band, 8.3 GHz also 10.28 GHz at X‐band, 17.76 GHz and at Ku‐band. Parametric analysis and measured antenna device results are also presented.

Novel star-shaped fractal antenna for multiband applications

Fractals have unique properties such as self-similarity and space-filling. The use of fractal geometry in antenna design provides a good method for achieving the desired miniaturization, multi-band, and wideband properties. In this communication, novel fractal geometry is proposed based on which a multiband antenna is designed. The proposed antenna has fractal patches which are shaped as different iterations of an eight-pointed star. The multiband behavior is in the frequency range from 4.50 to 17.00 GHz. The proposed antenna is designed on a dielectric substrate Roggers RO4003 lossy with a dielectric constant of εr = 3.55. The antenna has applications in commercial and military communication system.

Modified Square Fractal Antenna for Multiband Application

Antennas with low profile, compact size, multiband are in great insist in modern telecommunication system. Fractal antennas are simple, lightweight and compact. A compact fractal antenna derived from Sierpinski triangle concept, but in different modern way by rotating the square in tiny degrees, then migrated the new square with the old one to create a new antenna with 70 × 70 mm2 substrate scale. In this paper, a new model antenna was researched for application that requires multiband and wide range of frequencies from 1 GHz to 10 GHz, with 10 frequency responses with VSWR bandwidth nearly less than 1.8 for all these frequencies, and with average return loss bandwidth almost -15 dB.

Design of Sierpinski Carpet Fractal Antenna for Multiband Applications

In this paper, the design of Sierpinski Carpet fractal antenna for multiband application is presented. The return loss of designed structures is simulated using 3D electromagnetic simulator CST MWS 14.0.The proposed antenna is designed on (FR-4) Lossy Substrate with thickness 1.58 mm and relativity permittivity 4.44. It is the combination of initial, first and second iterations. Simulated results show that from initial, first and second iteration, it starts showing different frequency which cover the multiband applications. It also covers the C Band communication satellite for their uplink and downlink frequency application. The Broadband and multiple frequency features of fractal antenna will be presented and discussed.

Design of A Novel Reconfigurable Fractal Antenna for Multi-Band Application

With advancement in communication technology over the past decade, there is an increasing demand for miniaturization, cost effective, multiband and wideband antennas. Fractal antenna designs can support in meeting these requirements. Though these antennas provide several advantages but at the same time miniaturization and performance of the fractal antennas can be further enhanced using reconfiguration concept. This paper proposes a novel hybrid reconfigurable fractal antenna that combines the advantage of both the categories. A reconfigurable fractal antenna is designed, simulated and optimized using Ansoft-High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The optimized antenna is fabricated and tested using Vector Network Analyzer. The fabricated antenna results are in good agreement with simulated results. The proposed antenna can be used for satellite communication, medical imaging and microwave imaging application, Vehicular radar applications and wireless industry application.

Modified Sierpinski Gasket Patch Antenna for UMTS and 2.4/5.2 WLAN

A modified Sierpinski Gasket fractal antenna for multiband application is proposed in this paper. The modified ground plane and the microstrip feed are used to obtain the wider bandwidth at the resonance frequency. The antenna is designed and printed on two layers FR-4 substrate (εr=4.4 and h=1.6 mm) to cover the UMTS and 2.4/5.2 WLAN. The radiation pattern of the proposed antenna is similar to an omnidirectional. The proposed antenna has maximum gain of 1.88, 1.6, 4.31 dB at 2, 2.4, 5.2 GHz, respectively The properties of the antenna such as return losses, radiation pattern, input resistance and gain are determined via numerical CST Microwave Studio 2010 software.

A Modified Sierpinski Fractal Antenna for Multiband Application

A broadband planar Sierpinski fractal antenna for multiband application is proposed, designed, and tested. The perturbed Sierpinski fractal patch and slotted ground plane are employed to achieve broadband characteristics. The implemented antenna including the ground plane has a total dimension of 100 times 53.7 times 0.8 mm3. The measured 10-dB return loss bandwidths are 808-1008 MHz (22%) and 1581-2760 MHz (54.3%), which cover the GSM/DCS/PCS/IMT-2000/ISM/satellite DMB bands. The measured return loss, radiation patterns, and gain of the proposed antenna are presented and compared with simulated results.
