The Influence of Critical Race Theory on the Contemporary Ideological Divide in the USA

The article is devoted to the study of the influence of the academic movement represented by supporters of Critical Race Theory (CRT) on the development of modern American society. The paper examines the ideological origins of CRT, rooted in the legacy of the Frankfurt School. The author pays special attention to the consideration of the most significant concepts of CRT, based on the assertion of systematic discrimination against racial and ethnic minorities in the United States, which can only be overcome with the help of radical sociocultural and legal changes. The paper analyzes the consequences of the influence of CRT on the American education system, as an area that was directly exposed to the practical influence of its concepts. Finally, the article demonstrates the transition of disputes regarding CRT to the political plane, in conditions where the Republican Party views its spread as a vital threat to the traditional foundations of American society.

Thermo-Mechanically Coupled Settlement and Temperature Response of a Composite Foundation in Complex Geological Conditions for Molten Salt Tank in Tower Solar Plants

The degradation of complex geological structures due to thermo-mechanical cycling results in a reduction in bearing capacity, which can readily induce engineering issues such as uneven settlement, cracking, and even the destabilization of the foundations of molten salt storage tanks. This study establishes a foundational model for a molten salt storage tank through the use of COMSOL Multiphysics and conducts a numerical simulation analysis to evaluate the settlement deformation and temperature distribution of the foundation under the influence of thermo-mechanical coupling. Concurrently, the research proposes two distinct design approaches for the tank’s foundational structure. A comparative analysis of the results indicates that the use of a pile raft foundation in conjunction with a traditional foundation mode results in a reduction of settlement at the center of the foundation’s top surface by 380.1 mm, while also decreasing the maximum effective stress in the steel ring wall by 240.7 MPa. The thermal effects impact a depth of 10 m in the foundation soil and an influence radius of 20 m. Additionally, the foundation soil exhibits optimal thermal insulation properties, resulting in minimal energy loss. These findings indicate that the pile raft foundation in conjunction with a traditional foundation mode displays remarkable adaptability to complex geological conditions, with both settlement and temperature distribution of the foundation maintained within acceptable limits.

Design and Verification of Blockchain Enabled Monitoring Data Ownership for Foundation Pits

With the rapid development of urban construction, the demand for reliable data management systems is increasing. The Guangzhou Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau has recognized the necessity of data rights confirmation to enhance the management efficiency and security of monitoring data, which is crucial for ensuring the safety of construction projects. In response to the insufficient security and credibility of traditional foundation pit monitoring data during the certification process, this study proposes a design and verification scheme for foundation pit monitoring data certification based on blockchain technology. By designing smart contracts to achieve tamper proof and transparent sharing of data, we ensure the authenticity and reliability of monitoring data throughout its entire lifecycle. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme effectively reduces the security risks of foundation pit monitoring data during storage and transmission, and improves the efficiency and accuracy of data management. Meanwhile, based on the distributed nature of blockchain, the credibility of data has been enhanced, preventing the forgery and tampering of information. The design scheme of this study not only effectively realizes the certification of foundation pit monitoring data, but also provides new ideas for data sharing and security in engineering management, with important application prospects, especially in the fields of engineering safety, risk control, etc., which can provide strong data support for relevant decisions.

Particle Identification in High Energy Collisions at RHIC

This article provides a technical introduction to the study of collider physics by focusing on the concept of particle identification (PID). Through a general overview of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction Experiment (PHENIX), the author discusses the role of Vanderbilt University researchers in collaborative work at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. After explaining the concept of event reconstruction and centrality with graphical images of experimental results, the author outlines the time-of-flight method of particle identification in high energy physics. A final presentation of the design concept for the Multi-Gap Resistive Plate Chamber (MRPC) integrates the more traditional foundations of theoretical physics with the next generation of physics experimentation in the field.

Study on Dynamic Strength Characteristics of Sand Solidified by Enzyme-Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation (EICP).

Saturated sand foundations are susceptible to liquefaction under dynamic loads. This can result in roadbed subsidence, flotation of underground structures, and other engineering failures. Compared with the traditional foundation reinforcement technology, enzyme-induced calcium carbonate precipitation technology (EICP) is a green environmental protection reinforcement technology. The EICP technology can use enzymes to induce calcium carbonate to cement soil particles and fill soil pores, thus effectively improving soil strength and inhibiting sand liquefaction damage. The study takes EICP-solidified standard sand as the research object and, through the dynamic triaxial test, analyzes the influence of different confining pressure (σ3) cementation times (CT), cyclic stress ratio (CSR), dry density (ρd), and vibration frequency (f) on dynamic strength characteristics. Then, a modified dynamic strength model of EICP-solidified standard sand was established. The results show that, under the same confining pressure, the required vibration number for failure decreases with the increase in dynamic strength, and the dynamic strength increases with the rise in dry density. At the same number of cyclic vibrations, the greater the confining pressure and cementation times, the greater the dynamic strength. When the cementation times are constant, the dynamic strength of EICP-solidified sand decreases with the increase in the vibration number. When cementation times are 6, the dynamic strength of the specimens with CSR of 0.35 is 25.9% and 32.4% higher than those with CSR of 0.25 and 0.30, respectively. The predicted results show that the model can predict the measured values well, which fully verifies the applicability of the model. The research results can provide a reference for liquefaction prevention in sand foundations.

Study on Pore Water Pressure Model of EICP-Solidified Sand under Cyclic Loading

Under traffic load, earthquake load, and wave load, saturated sand foundation is prone to liquefaction, and foundation reinforcement is the key measure to improve its stability and liquefaction resistance. Traditional foundation treatment methods have many problems, such as high cost, long construction period, and environmental pollution. As a new solidification method, enzyme-induced calcium carbonate precipitation (EICP) technology has the advantages of economy, environmental protection, and durability. Through a triaxial consolidated undrained shear test under cyclic loading, the impacts of confining pressure (σ3), cementation number (Pc), cyclic stress ratio (CSR), initial dry density (ρd), and vibration frequency (f) on the development law of pore water pressure of EICP-solidified sand are analyzed and then a pore water pressure model suitable for EICP-solidified sand is established. The result shows that as σ3 and CSR increase, the rise rate of pore water pressure of solidified sand gradually accelerates, and with a lower vibration number required for liquefaction, the anti-liquefaction ability of solidified sand gradually weakens. However, as Pc, ρd, and f rise, the increase rate of pore water pressure of solidified sand gradually lowers, the vibration number required for liquefaction increases correspondingly, and its liquefaction resistance gradually increases. The test results are highly consistent with the predictive results, which show that the three-parameter unified pore water pressure model is suitable for describing the development law of A-type and B-type pore water pressure of EICP-solidified sand at the same time. The study results provide essential reference value and scientific significance in guidance for preventing sand foundations from liquefying.

This study aims to examine the selection and utilization of talents by Injae Choi Hyun, a mid-Joseon figure, in connection with his Neo-Confucian characteristics. Born in Jeonju, he demonstrated exceptional academic talent from a young age and raised a militia during the Imjin War, earning commendations. He subsequently held various official positions, actively engaging as both a scholar and an official. His academic orientation is characterized by a foundation in Neo-Confucian tradition while emphasizing practicality. He sought to promote national development by integrating scholarly principles with political practice. In particular, he advocated for a fair and efficient personnel system, criticizing the flaws of the existing nepotismbased system (Mun-eum) and proposing various reforms to address these issues. He also emphasized the importance of protecting and nurturing talent, arguing that the king should fairly evaluate and protect capable individuals to contribute to national progress. His approach combined Neo-Confucian principles with practical needs, striving to address the challenges faced by Joseon society at the time.

Assessment of the performance of spread footings and mat foundations on expansive soils

This paper presents two real case buildings that are redesigned considering the heave of the ground formation. The buildings are evaluated for upward swelling pressure, taking into account dead load, live load, and expansive soil load combinations. The criterion used to evaluate the safety of buildings constructed on expansive soils is first presented. Then, two scenarios regarding soil wetting are examined. In the first scenario, water only reaches the perimeter of the building, causing soil expansion at the outer boundaries. In this case, swelling pressure is only applied to the outer parts of the buildings. In the second scenario, heave occurs beneath the interior part of the building due to leakage from the domestic supply network. The structural integrity of the two buildings is evaluated by observing angular distortion at varying levels of swelling pressure. This assessment aims to determine to what extent the use of traditional foundation systems (spread footing and mat foundation) is feasible to support buildings on expansive soils considering different levels of swelling pressure. The study focuses on performing a detailed structural analysis of the building using the ETABS. The findings of this study have important implications for the design and construction practices in semi-arid regions.

Research on the Talent Cultivation Mode of Colleges and Universities Specializing in Japanese Language in the Context of “New Arts”

In the context of the "New Liberal Arts," the talent cultivation model for Japanese language programs in higher education faces both new challenges and opportunities. The "New Liberal Arts" promotes core principles such as interdisciplinary integration, innovation and practice orientation, and the cultivation of comprehensive qualities, driving profound transformations in the education sector. As a language discipline, Japanese studies must innovate upon traditional foundations to meet the contemporary demand for multifaceted and application-oriented talent. This paper analyzes the current state of Japanese language talent cultivation, reveals existing issues, and proposes corresponding optimization strategies. The research finds that curriculum design needs to enhance interdisciplinary content integration, teaching methods should focus on interaction and practical application, faculty development requires urgent improvement, and practical training and internships must be reinforced. Additionally, the enhancement of students' comprehensive abilities should be woven throughout the entire educational process. By exploring these aspects, this study aims to provide references for the reform of Japanese language education in higher education, supporting the development of high-quality Japanese professionals with an international perspective, innovative capability, and practical skills.

The article analyzes the correspondence of Kyiv voivode V.- K. Ostrozkyi to his son-in-law, an influential Lithuanian politician Kryštof Radziwill. This is almost the only relatively complete complex of the prince's correspondence in Ostroh, which, given the trusting relationship between both participants of the correspondence, allows us to reconstruct his inner world. As one might suspect, he significantly contradicted Ostroh's public persona. For the prince, the correct ("old") "world" remained in the past, in the times before the Union of Lublin from the year 1569. Innovations were perceived by Vasyl-Kostiantyn as a challenge to this world, which violated its traditional foundations and consisted of an attack on regionalism, a reduction in the political role of princes, and attempts to change the confessional picture of the newly created state. The prince believed that the policy of the Rzeczpospolita's leadership toward the Moscow state was ill-conceived. Ostrozkyi argued that constant wars with the eastern neighbor reduced the overall potential of Christian civilization in its confrontation with Islamic civilization, especially with the country which at that time embodied its offensive in Europe, the Ottoman Empire. Ostrozkyi appealed to Radziwill with the expectation of finding support in the confrontation with Jan Zajmoyskyi, an extremely influential crown chancellor and hetman in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It is no coincidence that the Kyiv voivode focused on issues that might have been of interest to the Lithuanian magnate. In particular, these interests included: the attempts of the crown elite, led by J. Zamoyskyi to ignore the interests of the Lithuanian and Ruthenian nobility, unwillingness to pay due attention to defense issues, insufficient allocation of funds for the repair and construction of castle fortifications. Gradually, the correspondence reflects the problem of interfaith confrontation, which was the result of the growth of counter-reformation processes from the beginning of Sigismund III's rule in the Polish-Lithuanian state. Their main emphasis in Europe was on Protestantism (K. Radziwill represented Calvinism), but in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, as a result of the Union of Brest in 1596, the Counter-Reformation also acquired anti-Orthodox content. In general, the correspondence of Prince V.-K. Ostrozkyi is a unique source that allows us to reconstruct the main features of the identity of an influential princely stratum, which was significantly influenced by the transformation processes in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the second half of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.

Vibro stone as periodic wave barriers for train-induced vibration attenuation of Lamb and surface waves

The rising cost of traditional foundations (e.g., concrete piles) and their environmental limits have prompted using natural ways to strengthen poor soils. The Vibro stone column technique has grown in popularity in the building industry because it is a cost-effective and ecologically friendly way of strengthening the soil-bearing capacity of poor soil and avoiding the risk of soil liquefaction. The usage of stone columns in soft clay as periodic wave barriers to attenuate undesirable waves is numerically examined in this paper. The finite element method was used to investigate the band gap characteristics of Lamb and surface waves in the periodic structures of the stone column. In both wave analyses, eigenfrequency simulation, mode shapes simulation, frequency domain simulation, and time transient simulation are used to investigate the traditional vibroflot shape and proposed square and notch types vibroflot. It was established that the notch type vibroflot performed excellently in attenuating Lamb and surface waves compared to the traditional and square vibroflot types. The numerical outcomes in the frequency and time domains support the attenuation impact of finite Vibro stone in the band gap as well as the phenomena of attenuation broadening brought on by the dissipation of leak modes into the bulk. As a result, the proposed barriers can be used to shield the broadband incident waves generated by both Lamb and surface waves by trains in a tunnel.

Wine Cups and the Early Chronology of Apollonia Pontica: Archaic Pottery from the Island of St. Kirik

Abstract In the last 15 years, the excavations at the island of St. Kirik offshore from Sozopol (ancient Apollonia Pontica) on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast have yielded thousands of fragments of Archaic Greek pottery, including a sizeable collection of drinking cups from the last decades of the 7th and the early 6th centuries BC – North Ionian hemispherical cups (“bird bowls”, “meander bowls”, etc.) and early types of South Ionian cups with everted rims (“Ionian cups”). The comparison with the assemblages from Istros, Berezan, Orgame, and Taganrog, all of them presumably earlier than Apollonia – with a traditional foundation date c.610 BC, reveals practically an identical repertoire. A couple of “anomalous” fragments that are even earlier, from the middle or third quarter of the 7th century BC, have parallels only at Berezan. The paper argues that there are grounds to suggest an earlier chronology of Apollonia’s foundation, closer to that of the other early Ionian apoikiai.

The Evolution of Humanitarian Aid in Disasters: Ethical Implications and Future Challenges

Ethical dilemmas affect several essential elements of humanitarian aid, such as the adequate selection of crises to which to provide aid and a selection of beneficiaries based on needs and not political or geostrategic criteria. Other challenges encompass maintaining neutrality against aggressors, deciding whether to collaborate with governments that violate human rights, and managing the allocation and prioritization of limited resources. Additionally, issues arise concerning the safety and protection of aid recipients, the need for cultural and political sensitivity, and recognition of the importance of local knowledge, skills, and capacity. The appropriateness, sustainability, and long-term impact of actions; security risks for aid personnel; and the need for transparency and accountability are also crucial. Furthermore, humanitarian workers face the duty to report and engage in civil activism in response to human rights violations and the erosion of respect for international humanitarian law. Lastly, the rights of affected groups and local communities in the decision-making and implementation of humanitarian aid are vital. The traditional foundations and approaches of humanitarian aid appear insufficient in today’s landscape of disasters and crises, which are increasingly complex and divergent, marked by a diminished capacity and shifting roles of various actors in alleviating suffering. This article reviews the historical evolution of the conceptualization of humanitarian aid and addresses some of its ethical challenges and dilemmas.

Comedy of architectural thought: Development, degradation and history

Development and degradation in architecture are relative concepts. In our time, development criteria turn out to be subordinate to the desires of certain sociocultural groups: national, religious, property, etc. In such a situation, it is almost impossible to rely on any theory or methods of development and degradation that overcome the historical difference in understanding and approaches.The traditional foundations of architecture, which had developed over thousands of years, were destroyed at the beginning of the twentieth century. The history of forms became the theory of forms, leading to a carnival of rapidly changing architectural styles, theories and interpretations of architectural history. As a result, palaces were replaced by “glass barracks”.

Vibration isolation characteristics of a novel composite flexible vibration-damping foundation

To address the challenge of low-frequency vibration in ships, we introduce a vibration isolation technique and a composite flexible vibration-damping foundation grounded in the principles of impedance equalization and the off-plane attenuation properties of surface waves. We utilize a fluid-structural coupling finite element method and experimental validation to analyze the effect of various properties of the liquid layer of the base. The results indicate that the composite foundation offers superior vibration isolation compared to traditional foundations across a frequency range of 10–500 Hz. Enhancements in the liquid’s viscosity and an increased layer thickness are found to significantly bolster the foundation’s ability to isolate vibrations. The relationship between liquid density and the vibration isolation performance of the base is not entirely positive. An increase in liquid density does provide some improvement to the vibration isolation performance at higher frequencies. Additionally, the presence of multiple liquid sacs within the foundation has a minimal influence on low-frequency isolation but proves to be increasingly beneficial at higher frequencies. Through this study, we aim to provide fresh perspectives and solutions for the attenuation and management of low-frequency vibrations in ships.

Standarisasi Manajemen Pesantren Kontemporer Di Era Postmodern

All contemporary pesantren in the current era must be able and brave enough to set management standards appropriate for the Postmodern era. This is because many major changes in technology, culture, and thought that occur in the Postmodern era affect pesantren. As a result, contemporary pesantren must adapt to these changes while maintaining their traditional foundation and strong Islamic values. The analysis of references on the type of standardization of contemporary pesantren management in the Postmodern era resulted in the writing of this article, which outlines several important points that can be used as a framework for the preparation of the intended contemporary pesantren standards. The ultimate goal of this standardization is expected to be able to make contemporary pesantren have a clear reference in maintaining its existence. The writing of this article uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach. This means that the data is described in the form of narratives about the standardization of contemporary pesantren management. The results of the analysis of various documents, there are at least several important points that become management standards as contemporary pesantren, including relevant curriculum development, information technology, transparency and accountability, partnerships with educational and business institutions, inclusiveness, attention to the welfare of students, environmental management, and continuous evaluation and renewal.

Specificity of politication and radicalization of the Kurdish national liberation movement in the Middle East

The authors reveal the interdependence of the Kurdish national liberation movement in the Middle East and the internal policies pursued by the Ottoman state, and later by Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran, aimed at state centralization and modernization of these states, which violates the traditional foundations of Kurdish society and threatens the tribal autonomy of these people. The authors also identify the role of leading world powers in the radicalization of the Kurdish issue and the strengthening of the Kurdish national liberation movement in the region. The research methodology is based on a civilizational approach. The article examines the history, specifics and features of the development of the internal policy of the Ottoman Empire, later of Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran, the consequences of its implementation and the reasons that led to the formation of the Kurdish national-territorial issue and the increased radicalization of Kurdish society in the period from the 19th to the end of the 20th centuries. The scientific novelty of the article consists of: 1. The analysis of domestic policies carried out on the territory of the Ottoman Empire, and subsequently in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran during the period of the late XIX – XX centuries. 2) Identification of the influence of direct and indirect historical and foreign policy factors that influenced the Young Turk state’s policy of centralization and modernization, as well as the relationship of these factors with the emergence, formation and development of the Kurdish national liberation movement. 3) Study of the root causes and main stages of the politicization and radicalization of the Kurdish issue in the Middle East. 4) The findings of the study also reveal the role of leading foreign policy players represented by Russia, the USA, Great Britain, France and Germany in the Kurdish issue.
