Problematic aspects of the influence of the legal system on social phenomena

The article examines the problem of the interaction of law with other social phenomena. On the one hand, law can be used to protect other social phenomena, such as moral norms, economic interests, cultural values, and on the other hand, social phenomena can influence the formation of legal norms and law and order in society. An important aspect of research is the interaction of legal norms with such social phenomena as politics, economy, culture, morality, and others, as well as the influence of legal norms on social reality and the interaction of various aspects of society’s life. The article examines the problem of the correlation of legal policy with certain social phenomena, and also determines the role of law in the formation of social reality. In addition, the author investigates the problem of regulation of social phenomena by the norms of national and international law in the context of social phenomena. Understanding the relationship between law and various social phenomena is important for the development of legal policy in the conditions of constantly changing social realities. Studying the relationship between law and other social phenomena allows us to understand the causes of such conflicts and find ways to solve problems. Understanding the relationship between law and social phenomena is important for the effective functioning of the legal system, ensuring the protection of human rights and freedoms, the development of international law and legal awareness. Knowledge of this interaction helps to understand trends in the development of law as a social phenomenon, as well as social phenomena as components of law. Also, understanding the relationship between law and other social phenomena is important for the development of the international legal system and the implementation of international legal cooperation. In connection with the growth of globalization and international cooperation, there is a need for the development of international law and legal instruments that regulate relations between different states and international organizations. Understanding legal norms and their relationship with social phenomena contributes to the formation of a high legal culture in society and ensuring the protection of human rights and freedoms.

‘Homegrown and national culture’: the cultural policies of Erdogan’s ‘New Turkey’

ABSTRACT The events that have happened since 2002, when the Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power, contain rich research topics that need to be examined for many years by social scientists who work on Turkey. However, AKP’s cultural policies have not yet received sufficient attention in academic studies. The dissolution of the moderate atmosphere created by the EU accession negotiations and liberal policies in the early 2000s had a direct impact on AKP’s cultural policies in the 2010s. This article argues that the cultural policies implemented in the last decade, which I will define as yerli ve milli (homegrown and national) cultural policy, emerged intending to fill the cultural hegemony gap that manifested after the conservative art debates (2012), Gezi Park Protests (2013) and the termination of the Turkish-Kurdish peace process (2015). By analysing the formation and implementation levels of the yerli ve milli culture, the article shows that this unofficially implemented yerli ve milli cultural policy seeks to construct a neoliberal cultural space in which the Islamic elements are integrated into the traditional national cultural policies centred on Turkishness.

THE ROLE OF THEATER IN ENHANCING CULTURAL IDENTITY IN THE MIDDLE EAST

The impact of theater on Middle Eastern cultural identity formation and enhancement is the focus of this research. This study delves into how theater has played a significant role in reflecting, building, and negotiating cultural identities in different Middle Eastern societies through an extensive examination of current theatrical plays. Case studies of well-known theatrical productions and interviews with creatives involved in making these plays are all part of the qualitative methodology used in this study. To round out the analysis, secondary sources are examined to shed light on the political and historical factors that shaped the region's theatrical expression. The research points to the theater in the Middle East performing arts as a place for cultural preservation and education, a platform for political commentary, and a reflection of social issues. This study sheds light on concrete instances where theater has directly impacted public discourse and helped people reconnect with their cultural heritage. These instances primarily occur in nations undergoing social transition or conflict. Topics and styles of theatrical expression are frequently influenced by the difficulties encountered by regional theater practitioners, such as censorship and inadequate funding. Despite all these obstacles, the conclusion argues that theater is still an essential part of Middle Eastern culture, providing a potent arena for affirming and reimagining cultural identities. The study emphasizes the importance of cultural policy, giving the arts, and theater in particular, more credit for their positive effects on social cohesiveness and cultural identity.

Preserving Traditional Ghanaian Folklore through Storytelling

This study examines the role of storytelling in preserving traditional Ghanaian folklore, considering its significance in cultural continuity and identity formation. Ghana boasts a rich tapestry of oral traditions, comprising myths, legends, proverbs, and folktales that have been passed down through generations. However, in the face of modernization and globalization, these indigenous narratives face the risk of being marginalized or forgotten. Through qualitative analysis and literature review, this paper explores how storytelling serves as a vital mechanism for the transmission and preservation of Ghanaian folklore. It investigates the cultural, social, and educational implications of storytelling practices within Ghanaian communities, highlighting their capacity to instill values, foster intergenerational bonds, and reinforce cultural pride. Moreover, the study investigates contemporary initiatives aimed at revitalizing traditional storytelling methods, such as community storytelling events, educational programs, and digital media platforms. By recognizing the intrinsic value of storytelling in safeguarding Ghana's cultural heritage, this research underscores the importance of ongoing efforts to ensure the continued vitality and relevance of Ghanaian folklore in the modern era.

THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AS THE BASIS OF CONTINUOUS ECOLOGICAL TRAINING OF FUTURE TEACHERS

Increasing attention to the ecological training of young people in the system of modern education is one of the important problems nowadays. Guarantees of environmental protection are presented in ecological knowledge, abilities and skills, as well as in the socio-cultural behavior and worldview of the population. Therefore, one of the priority tasks of the educational system is the formation of the ecological culture of the younger generation through the implementation of a system of continuous environmental education based on the principles of sustainable development. The purpose of the article is to investigate the problem of continuous ecological training of future teachers based on sustainable development. Research methods: analysis and synthesis of scientific literature (to clarify key research concepts), systematization, and generalization (for the purpose of forming the author's conclusions). It is established that ensuring the sustainable development of society involves positive life activities of people through the creation of conditions that contribute to the harmonization of their relationships, development, and satisfaction of their needs in the socio-natural environment, providing opportunities for the formation of ecological culture in the educational sphere. The peculiarities of continuous ecological training of future teachers based on the concept of sustainable development are studied, and the content and results of this process are highlighted. The goal of continuous ecological training for sustainable development is to teach people to manage the quality of life; the formation of an ecological culture in the young generation, which involves the ecological orientation of the individual, the ability to increase their ecological education and literacy, to carry out social-ecological and ecological-project activities for the benefit of sustainable development. The main tasks of continuous ecological training are the formation of scientific knowledge and ecologically oriented knowledge, the development of environmental protection skills and abilities aimed at improving the state of the environment and improving the quality of life of people, and the upbringing of a highly educated and ecologically cultural personality. Continuous ecological education for the benefit of sustainable development originates in preschool education institutions, where for the first time children master the basics of environmental education and culture, and form an idea of their unity with nature. The next stage is general secondary education, where students form environmental competence and develop an environmental outlook. The next level of the continuous ecological education system is the higher school, where the professional ecological training of the future teacher is carried out, the value-meaning sphere of the individual is formed, social-ecological norms of professional activity are mastered.

Forging Romanitas: The Intersection of Urbanization and Identity in Mérida

This paper aims to explore the role of urbanization in the formation of a shared Roman identity during the time of the Roman Empire. By examining the physical features of urban settlements and the economic opportunities that arose from them, it seeks to understand how these factors contributed to the development of a cohesive identity across the empire’s vast and diverse territory. This paper will use examples from cities in the western regions of the empire, such as Pompeii and Mérida, to demonstrate how urbanization and the economic opportunities it brought forth helped create a sense of Romanness among diverse ethnic groups. It will also investigate the impact of building projects and intervention from wealthy elites in the fostering of a Roman identity through urbanization. This idea will then be tied into the role of Roman architecture and urban planning in the development of said identity, exemplified by the similarities and differences between settlements across the empire. At the same time, this paper will also consider the historical context in which these urban settlements emerged, examining how the broader geopolitical situation might have impacted urbanization. By analyzing the intersection between physical structures and economic opportunities brought about within Roman urban settlements, this paper hopes to shed light on the significance of urbanization as a driving force behind the formation of a shared Roman identity. This research will contribute to the broader understanding of cultural identity formation in ancient societies and the role of urbanization in shaping the collective consciousness of diverse populations.

Ways of forming the socio-psychological competence of sociology students in the course of training in higher education institutions

The existing uncertainties in modern social life cause personal and mental stress in the field of communication and joint activities of people. The subject of the research is socio-psychological competence of sociology students. The purpose of the work is to study the existing ways of forming this competence in the process of teaching students at higher education institutions. In turn, in order to achieve the original purpose, the authors formulated the following objectives: to identify the current problems connected to the social competence, to consider the existing psychological culture of sociology students, and to explore the contemporary approaches to the formation of professional competence of sociology students. In order to fulfill the purpose and the corresponding objectives, the authors studied scientific articles written by other Russian researchers as a methodological basis and also considered the information contained on the Internet. Due to its own specifics, the topic is used in the process of teaching students at higher education institutions. This topic has been relevant throughout history, and therefore it seems necessary to continue research in this field. According to the research results, the following conclusions were made. The existence of ways of forming the professional competence of a future specialist allows us to identify options for improving the socio-psychological competencies of sociology students in the process of training at higher education institutions. Due to diverse approaches, it is possible to determine the manifestation of personal psychological culture most accurately. Educational institutions at the same time act as one of the main factors that influence socialisation and formation of the psychological culture of a sociology student during their education.

Rationally designed β-cyclodextrin-crosslinked polyacrylamide hydrogels for cell spheroid formation and 3D tumor model construction

In vitro tumor models are essential for understanding tumor behavior and evaluating tumor biological properties. Hydrogels that can mimic the tumor extracellular matrix have become popular for creating 3D in vitro tumor models. However, designing biocompatible hydrogels with appropriate chemical and physical properties for constructing tumor models is still a challenge. In this study, we synthesized a series of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD)-crosslinked polyacrylamide hydrogels with different β-CD densities and mechanical properties and evaluated their potential for use in 3D in vitro tumor model construction, including cell capture and spheroid formation. By utilizing a combination of β-CD-methacrylate (CD-MA) and a small amount of N,N′-methylene bisacrylamide (BIS) as hydrogel crosslinkers and optimizing the CD-MA/BIS ratio, the hydrogels performed excellently for tumor cell 3D culture and spheroid formation. Notably, when we co-cultured L929 fibroblasts with HeLa tumor cells on the hydrogel surface, co-cultured spheroids were formed, showing that the hydrogel can mimic the complexity of the tumor extracellular matrix. This comprehensive investigation of the relationship between hydrogel mechanical properties and biocompatibility provides important insights for hydrogel-based in vitro tumor modeling and advances our understanding of the mechanisms underlying tumor growth and progression.

Electoral Systems in Sudan: In Quest for an Appropriate Type

This article reviews the types of electoral systems applied in Sudan since independence – in both democratic and military rules. It goes beyond that to touch on the general features of electoral behavior as well. It employs historical and descriptive approaches to examine some facts pertaining to the reality of elections and hindrances to democracy in the Sudan: <i>First</i>, the democratic process has been obstructed several times by military coups and regimes. <i>Second,</i> children who grew up under al-Bashir's Militant Islamic Regime (MIR) were deprived form exercising democracy or know anything about voting. <i>Third,</i> the lack of continual political participation hindered the process of accumulating political awareness that could enrich the formation of political culture. <i>Fourth,</i> the tribal influence in the socio-political life in many parts of the country, had negatively affected the political behavior of the ordinary people as well as the politicians. This political reality shatters any hope for proper democracy to work in the country. This essay argues that for such pluralism and ethno-cultural multiplicity entails the adoption of consensual democracy. However, it believes that this consociationalism should be supported by the Proportional Representation type of elections –along with federalism and presidential system.

CcdC Regulates Biofilm Dispersal in Bacillus velezensis FZB42.

Bacillus velezensis FZB42 is a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium (PGPR) and a model microorganism for biofilm studies. Biofilms are required for the colonization and promotion of plant growth in the rhizosphere. However, little is known about how the final stage of the biofilm life cycle is regulated, when cells regain their motility and escape the mature biofilm to spread and colonize new niches. In this study, the non-annotated gene ccdC was found to be involved in the process of biofilm dispersion. We found that the ccdC-deficient strain maintained a wrinkled state at the late stage of biofilm formation in the liquid-gas interface culture, and the bottom solution showed a clear state, indicating that no bacterial cells actively escaped, which was further evidenced by the formation of a cellular ring (biofilm pellicle) located on top of the preformed biofilm. It can be concluded that dispersal, a biofilm property that relies on motility proficiency, is also positively affected by the unannotated gene ccdC. Furthermore, we found that the level of cyclic diguanylate (c-di-GMP) in the ccdC-deficient strain was significantly greater than that in the wild-type strain, suggesting that B. velezensis exhibits a similar mechanism by regulating the level of c-di-GMP, the master regulator of biofilm formation, dispersal, and cell motility, which controls the fitness of biofilms in Pseudomonas aeruginosain. In this study, we investigated the mechanism regulating biofilm dispersion in PGPR.

High School Students and Cultural Capital from the Perspective of Teachers

The present research aims to investigate how the high school, from the perspective of the teachers, has been contributing to the cultural formation of its students. This is a qualitative study with a descriptive-analytical approach, which used questionnaires and interviews as data collection procedures. With the data generated from the research, we were able to trace the profile of the participants and learn how teachers develop practices favorable to the expansion of cultural capital. With the analysis of the data, we found some obstacles that teachers face when they intend to develop practices that promote cultural development. They are: structural difficulties, little pedagogical support from the management team, lack of time for the organization of pedagogical work and lack of interest from the students themselves. In addition, the study pointed out that teachers have little experience with cultural actions.

Cultural Hybridity and Identity Formation in Globalized Societies

Purpose: The general purpose of the study was to explore cultural hybridity and identity formation in globalized societies. Methodology: The study adopted a desktop research methodology. Desk research refers to secondary data or that which can be collected without fieldwork. Desk research is basically involved in collecting data from existing resources hence it is often considered a low cost technique as compared to field research, as the main cost is involved in executive’s time, telephone charges and directories. Thus, the study relied on already published studies, reports and statistics. This secondary data was easily accessed through the online journals and library. Findings: The findings reveal that there exists a contextual and methodological gap relating to cultural hybridity and identity formation in globalized societies. Preliminary empirical review revealed that cultural hybridity was pervasive, with individuals blending diverse cultural influences to construct hybrid identities. Identity formation was dynamic and influenced by globalization, migration, and historical legacies. Power dynamics, including race and socio-economic status, intersected with cultural hybridity to shape experiences of identity and belonging. The study emphasized the importance of promoting inclusivity and dialogue to navigate the complexities of cultural hybridity and foster greater understanding across diverse cultural landscapes. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The Post- Colonial theory, Intersectionality theory and Transnationalism theory may be used to anchor future studies on cultural hybridity and identity formation in globalized societies. The study provided valuable insights and recommendations that contributed to theory, practice, and policy. It enriched theoretical frameworks by adopting a multidimensional approach to understanding identity formation and underscored the importance of recognizing cultural diversity. Educators, community organizations, and policymakers utilized the study's findings to develop inclusive practices and policies that promoted intercultural understanding, social cohesion, and equitable access to resources. Additionally, media practitioners incorporated the study's insights to produce content that challenged stereotypes and fostered positive representations of cultural diversity. Overall, the study's recommendations have had a significant impact on efforts to promote inclusive development and intercultural dialogue in globalized societies.

The novel The Satanic Verses focuses on the cross-cultural influences and delves into the complexities of cultural hybridity by exploring the collision and blending of diverse traditions, identities, and belief systems. The narrative follows the intertwined lives of two Indian expatriates, Gibreel Farishta and Saladin Chamcha, who survive a terrorist attack on their flight from Bombay to London. Following the miraculous survival, the characters experience a series of surreal and fantastical transformations, blurring the lines between reality and myth. Rushdie's novel is renowned for its exploration of cultural syncretism, where elements of Eastern and Western cultures converge and coalesce. The characters navigate between different cultural landscapes, grappling with questions of identity, belonging, and the clash of civilizations. The narrative traverses various historical and geographical contexts, including India, Britain, and the Islamic world, highlighting the interconnectedness and fluidity of cultural boundaries. Central to the novel is the concept of hybridity, where characters embody multiple cultural identities and negotiate the complexities of their hybrid existence. Through vivid imagery, intricate storytelling, and linguistic experimentation, Rushdie depicts the rich tapestry of cultural influences shaping the characters' lives and experiences. The novel challenges essentialist notions of cultural purity and celebrates the dynamic interplay between diverse cultural traditions. Furthermore, the text explores the impact of colonialism, migration, and globalization on cultural formations, illustrating how power dynamics shape cultural exchanges and encounters. Rushdie critiques the hegemony of dominant cultural narratives and emphasizes the importance of embracing pluralism and diversity in contemporary societies. Overall, "The Satanic Verses" serves as a provocative and illuminating exploration of cross-cultural influences, offering profound insights into the complexities of cultural identity, hybridity, and the ever-evolving nature of human experience in an increasingly interconnected world.

The article is a study of the state of modern physical activity in higher education institutions of Ukraine. The author examines the problems of physical and psychological state of higher education students during theoretical classes. The physical exercises described in the article have a comprehensive approach and help to strengthen muscles, improve blood circulation, increase flexibility and provide reliable support for the musculoskeletal system. Moreover, they help improve concentration and attention during exercise. Studies have shown that regular exercise is a useful and effective means of preventing the spread and occurrence of diseases such as osteochondrosis, arthritis, arthrosis, bursitis, and others. Various methods of physical exercises, taking into account the peculiarities of academic workload and the possibility of pauses for physical activity during theoretical classes. Recommendations are given on how to choose the optimal time and intensity of exercises to maximize benefits and minimize fatigue. The results of the study can be used by teachers and students seeking to ensure a balanced approach to learning that promotes not only intellectual development but also physical abilities. This article looks at an innovative approach to physical health and shows how you can combine theory and practice to always have a strong and healthy body. Performing special physical exercises during theoretical classes can effectively prevent diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This approach proves to be simple, accessible, and useful for everyone, especially for those who spend a lot of time sitting in a sedentary position in theory classes or working individually at a computer. That is, students studying at a higher education institution receive not only general and professionally oriented physical and motor training, but also a system of knowledge on the basics of a healthy lifestyle and the theory and methods of physical education. Non-specialized physical education is a level of assimilation of physical culture values, mastery of special knowledge and vital motor actions and, as a result, a level of physical activity and somatic health that allows for the effective formation of physical culture in a young person’s personality. Supporting the mental health of young people from ethnically diverse groups during the transition from primary to secondary school

Background: The transition from primary to secondary school is a pivotal period in young people’s lives and can significantly impact their mental health. However, the experiences of young people from ethnically diverse groups during this crucial period of physical, social and emotional development are under-researched, limiting the evidence base for meaningful support. Objectives: This study explored the experiences of young people from ethnically diverse groups during primary-secondary school transition and co-designed ideas for culturally sensitive support. It explicitly focused on the intersection between ethnic and cultural identity, primary-secondary transition and mental health. Methods: The study employed participatory design to collaborate with seven young people from ethnically diverse groups and a peer researcher. Four online workshops mapped participant experiences and ideas concerning the primary-secondary transition, identity and mental health. These were developed into implications for practice, policy and research. Results: Participants highlighted feeling unprepared for the transition, with some experiencing poor mental health and difficulty navigating their ethnic and cultural identity during this time. Participants’ ideas for future transition experiences included: supporting a longer transition period, schools promoting diversity among students and staff, enabling education on ethnicity and culture, breaking stereotypes, enabling mutual learning among staff and students and enabling an open and caring environment to support mental health. Conclusions: The study provides an in-depth understanding of experiences of young people from ethnically diverse groups during primary-secondary transition and suggests ways of supporting multi-faceted transitions and mental health, with a key focus on ethnic and cultural identity formation.

Generation of 'semi-guided' cortical organoids with complex neural oscillations.

Temporal development of neural electrophysiology follows genetic programming, similar to cellular maturation and organization during development. The emergent properties of this electrophysiological development, namely neural oscillations, can be used to characterize brain development. Recently, we utilized the innate programming encoded in the human genome to generate functionally mature cortical organoids. In brief, stem cells are suspended in culture via continuous shaking and naturally aggregate into embryoid bodies before being exposed to media formulations for neural induction, differentiation and maturation. The specific culture format, media composition and duration of exposure to these media distinguish organoid protocols and determine whether a protocol is guided or unguided toward specific neural fate. The 'semi-guided' protocol presented here has shorter induction and differentiation steps with less-specific patterning molecules than most guided protocols but maintains the use of neurotrophic factors such as brain-derived growth factor and neurotrophin-3, unlike unguided approaches. This approach yields the cell type diversity of unguided approaches while maintaining reproducibility for disease modeling. Importantly, we characterized the electrophysiology of these organoids and found that they recapitulate the maturation of neural oscillations observed in the developing human brain, a feature not shown with other approaches. This protocol represents the potential first steps toward bridging molecular and cellular biology to human cognition, and it has already been used to discover underlying features of human brain development, evolution and neurological conditions. Experienced cell culture technicians can expect the protocol to take 1 month, with extended maturation, electrophysiology recording, and adeno-associated virus transduction procedure options.

Micrococcal nuclease regulates biofilm formation and dispersal in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus USA300.

Biofilm formation is an important virulence factor for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The extracellular matrix of MRSA biofilms contains significant amounts of double-stranded DNA that hold the biofilm together. MRSA cells secrete micrococcal nuclease (Nuc1), which degrades double-stranded DNA. In this study, we used standard methodologies to investigate the role of Nuc1 in MRSA biofilm formation and dispersal. We quantified biofilm formation and extracellular DNA (eDNA) levels in broth and agar cultures. In some experiments, cultures were supplemented with sub-MIC amoxicillin to induce biofilm formation. Biofilm erosion was quantitated by culturing biofilms on rods and enumerating detached colony-forming units (CFUs), and biofilm sloughing was investigated by perfusing biofilms cultured in glass tubes with fresh broth and measuring the sizes of the detached cell aggregates. We found that an MRSA nuc1- mutant strain produced significantly more biofilm and more eDNA than a wild-type strain, both in the absence and presence of sub-MIC amoxicillin. nuc1- mutant biofilms grown on rods detached significantly less than wild-type biofilms. Detachment was restored by exogenous DNase or complementing the nuc1- mutant. In the sloughing assay, nuc1- mutant biofilms released cell aggregates that were significantly larger than those released by wild-type biofilms. Our results suggest that Nuc1 modulates biofilm formation, biofilm detachment, and the sizes of detached cell aggregates. These processes may play a role in the spread and subsequent survival of MRSA biofilms during biofilm-related infections.IMPORTANCEInfections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria known as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are a significant problem in hospitals. MRSA forms adherent biofilms on implanted medical devices such as catheters and breathing tubes. Bacteria can detach from biofilms on these devices and spread to other parts of the body such as the blood or lungs, where they can cause life-threatening infections. In this article, researchers show that MRSA secretes an enzyme known as thermonuclease that causes bacteria to detach from the biofilm. This is important because understanding the mechanism by which MRSA detaches from biofilms could lead to the development of procedures to mitigate the problem.

The reaction of London newspapers to the proclamation of the Monroe doctrine

The presented article analyzes the reaction of the British press to the proclamation of the Monroe Doctrine by the American president in 1823. The reaction of leading London periodicals such as The Examiner, The Monthly Magazine, The London Magazine and The Morning Post is considered. The article examines the reaction to the Monroe Doctrine, which is one of the fundamental documents of American public policy, which became one of the first steps for the formation of American strategic culture in its current state. The relevance of the article is based on the need for a comprehensive study of the reports of the leading London press to identify their impact on international relations and the specific interests of the United Kingdom. Despite the fact that the Monroe Doctrine has been around for two hundred years, it does not lose its relevance in relation to Latin American states with the United States, and, more importantly, in relation to the United States, with other actors in world politics.
