Introduction. The changes that have taken place in our country, and especially the rethinking of domestic and foreign experience, have served as the basis for a comprehensive study of the problem of using multimedia technologies in the process of forming the digital culture of higher and professional higher education students, taking into account current trends in the development of society and pedagogy. Higher and professional higher education institutions play an important role in the system of informatisation of society, as one of their main tasks is to transfer knowledge (information) to the next generation. At the same time, higher and professional higher education institutions are focused on new technologies and keep pace with the current transformations of society, including the use of online platforms that have been rapidly gaining momentum over the past few years. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analyse the peculiarities of using multimedia technologies in the process of forming the digital culture of higher and professional higher education students. Methods. Theoretical methods of pedagogical research were mainly used to conduct the study. The main theoretical method used was the method of analysing research literature, as it allowed the study to focus on the internal content of the processes under study. The purpose of the theoretical analysis was to determine the initial positions of the study, to substantiate the possibilities of using multimedia technologies to form the digital culture of students of higher and professional higher education. In addition, the study used empirical methods focused on the collection and practical processing of data during the consideration of events that actually occurred, in particular, the study consistently applied the methods of observation, survey (in the form of a questionnaire) and generalisation of results for the purpose of the study. Results. The relevance of the problem of forming the digital culture of students of higher and professional higher education is revealed. It is noted that multimedia technologies are an important means of forming the digital culture of higher and professional higher education students. The views of scientists on the essence of the terms “multimedia”, “hypermedia”, “multimedia technologies” are summarised. It is proved that multimedia in education is used to transmit and receive information through various types of media resources, such as text, images, sound, video, etc. It is established that computer programs, interactive presentations, video classes, audio materials, virtual laboratories and other means can be used in multimedia education. The benefits of using multimedia in education include improved understanding of the material, increased student engagement, increased motivation, and the development of various skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and technological literacy, among others. It is proved that multimedia technologies are a wide range of technological tools and systems that allow processing, presenting and transmitting information in various forms of media, such as text, images, sound, video and interacting with the user. These technologies include a variety of tools and resources that assist in the creation of interactive learning materials. Multimedia technologies include: presentation software, video and audio materials, interactive exercises and web-based applications, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), and online resources. Originality. The article reveals the state of study of the problem of application of multimedia technologies in educational institutions. On the basis of theoretical analysis, the article identifies peculiarities of application of multimedia technologies in the educational process and main directions of application of multimedia technologies in higher and professional higher education institutions. The empirical research has identified the advantages of using multimedia technologies in education, the main difficulties in the use of multimedia technologies in the educational process of educational institutions, and recommendations for overcoming them. Conclusion. The results of the study showed that it is very important to make maximum use of existing domestic and foreign developments, international best practices in the use of multimedia technologies in education, and to consolidate our own steps in this direction. Currently, the use of multimedia technologies in the educational process is possible in the following areas: creation of author's multimedia products by teachers (or creative teams) in academic subjects within their educational institution; cooperation with other educational institutions and organisations that have multimedia products or relevant hardware; creation of a single coordinating centre for the introduction and use of multimedia technologies throughout all educational institutions of Ukraine; development of links with foreign producers of multimedia technologies.
