A novel neodymium complex Nd2(BTPA)3⋅10H2O was synthesized by the reaction of chlorine salt of Nd3+ and tetrabromoterephthalic acid. The complex was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and TG analysis. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the compound crystallizes in triclinic system with centrosymmetric space group P-1. From the absorption and luminescence spectra, Judd–Ofelt analysis has been carried out for the complex. The luminescent spectrum of the complex shows emission bands characteristic of the Nd(III) at 1064nm. The result shows that the complex has a small Ω2 due to the antisymmetric crystal field. However, the complex has a large stimulated emission cross-section about 5.031×10−20cm2 which is advantageous for the design of laser.
