Digital simulation is carried out to simulate transfer in a channel flow-through electrochemical cell to determine whether or not adsorption at the electrode surface can be studied in a chromatographic experiment. The theory suggests that the answer is a qualified, “yes”. When done correctly the retention of a solute is perceptible when the equilibrium constant for its association with a surface site is 10 2 M −1, and quantitatible when K = 10 3 M −1. The experiment must be done in a way that maximizes the phase ratio.
