A prospective study was conducted with participants of a supervised exercise program to verify if early impressions developed while participating in the program contributed to predict subsequent adherence. After voluntarily completing five weeks of an 11-wk. supervised exercise program, 126 young adults (52 men, 74 women) indicated their thoughts concerning (i) the professional interest directed towards them by the fitness leader, (ii) satisfaction with the ongoing fitness programme, (iii) the perceived tiredness, (iv) difficulty in accommodating the time request by the fitness program with daily timetable, and (v) perceived support from family and friends. Multiple regression analysis indicated that 38% of the total variability in the adherence level (the subsequent 6 wk.) was explained by the perceived difficulty in accommodating the fitness program with daily timetable.
