The capacity of the Saudi Arabian banking sector to respond to macroeconomic shocks has been considerably strengthened over the past decade. The Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA ) has been actively monitoring some emerging portfolio trends. Comprehensive reforms are under way to deepen financial markets and increase access to financial services. Resolving structural issues remains an obstacle for the market development. SAMA adheres to the Basel Committee’s Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision, and it makes no differentiation between conventional and Sharia-compliant banking arrangements.

The assessment reveals that overall, the financial system is generally sound, resilient to potential adverse shocks, and well supervised. Risks both on the international level and domestically appear well within the banks’ capacity to manage them and are well understood by the supervisor and overseer of the system.

This paper reviews key findings of Belarus’s Financial System Stability Assessment, including Reports on the Observance of Standards and Codes on Banking Supervision, Payment Systems, and Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism. Although significant progress has been made in upgrading the financial system’s technical infrastructure and the regulatory and supervisory framework, financial sector structural reform has been slow overall. The centralized approach to economic management continues to dominate the financial system. The major banks, which are with one exception government owned or controlled, are frequently requested to lend to priority enterprises and sectors.

This paper presents an update to Hungary’s Financial System Stability Assessment, including a Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes on Insurance Regulation. The assessment reveals that financial intermediation in Hungary has continued to deepen. The expansion of bank lending at higher interest margins has resulted in a sharp increase in bank profitability. Although financial soundness indicators show that the banking system has evolved well overall, potential risks have emerged, which should be carefully monitored and appropriately addressed. Nonbank financial institutions remain relatively small and are not currently a source of systemic vulnerability.

The assessment reveals that the Albanian financial system is not highly vulnerable to immediate macroeconomic or financial sector shocks. However, accelerating credit growth and increased competition arising from the recent privatization of a dominant (savings) bank may put pressure on the banking system. The financial system is also at an early stage of development.
