DO CAPITAL EXPENDITURES HAVE A MODERATING EFFECT ON THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN REGIONAL GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCE, SIZE AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION TRANSPARENCY?

This research aims to analyze the influence of dependence and size of local government on the transparency of financial information by using the proportion of capital expenditure as a moderating variable. Research was conducted in four cities and four regencies in Banten Province for five years (2018 - 2022). The method used is purposive sampling using secondary data from Regional Government financial reports and other related documents. Data was collected by accessing the official Regional Government website to search for financial information from 2018 to 2022. Hypothesis testing was carried out using multiple regression analysis for panel data. The research results show that the level of Regional Government dependency and the size of the Regional Government do not influence the transparency of Regional Government financial information, and capital expenditure does not play a moderating role in this relationship. This research implies the importance of transparency of Regional Government financial information as a monitoring medium for the community, especially in managing capital expenditure.

Does XBRL adoption increase financial information transparency in digital disclosure environment? Insights from emerging markets

The eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is one of the global-level business reporting standards that accommodates all firms to report financial affairs in a convenient manner. The main objective of this study is to explain the impact of XBRL adoption on the transparency of financial information disclosure in Jordanian financial companies. The current study used a sample of 124 respondents including accounting managers, auditors, and financial managers with a background in XBRL who are working in Jordanian financial firms. The findings confirmed that the adoption of XBRL in Jordanian financial firms increases financial information transparency in the digital disclosure environment which leads to more relevant, reliable, and transparent financial statements disclosure. One main implication the current study heightened is the importance of turning to the implementation of the XBRL will support the process of decision making which will support and enhance both the performance and decision-making process. Lastly, this research effort is the first of its kind that examined the impact of XBRL on the transparency of financial information from the financial firms' perspective in Jordan as a developing country.

From traditional to digital: the role of XBRL adoption in improving financial statements transparency

Purpose This study aims to explore the role of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) adoption in improving financial statements transparency in the Jordanian context. Design/methodology/approach The partial least squares structural equation modeling approach was used to analyze the obtained data. Findings The empirical outcomes indicated that the adoption of XBRL contributes to improving financial statements transparency in listed Jordanian firms in the Amman Stock Exchange, whereas information technology (IT) infrastructure was found to moderate the relationship between XBRL adoption and improving financial statements transparency and hence the related hypotheses were accepted. Originality/value This study encouraged the importance of shifting to the adoption of the XBRL which will contribute to improving transparency of financial data and information in listed Jordanian firms and then support the process of decision-making.

The Ability of Control Variables Morality and Environmental Pressure on Decision Making in Maintaining Business Sustainability

Research Purposes: The purpose of this study is to test and analyze the direct and indirect relationships between the variables of decision-making quality and business sustainability.
 Research Methods: The research used quantitative methods, with SEM-PLS analysis test and data collection techniques using simple random sampling survey.
 Research Originality: This study develops previous research, by adding morality variables as new variables in the hope that it can make an important contribution to business organizations in Indonesia.
 Findings: The findings of this study conclude that the quality of decision-making has a significant effect on business sustainability and the variables of morality control and environmental pressure are found to be able to control the strong relationship between the variables of decision-making quality and business sustainability.
 Implications: These findings remind all interested parties in the preparation of financial statements that accounting morals and ethics are essential to ensure the integrity, reliability, and transparency of financial information produced by accounting professionals that is useful for stakeholders in decision making.
 Limitations: In this study, the sample used was only selected based on the simple random sampling method, so the detailed criteria of the respondents used (accounting managers) were not specifically targeted at one of the industries in the Yogyakarta area.

Enhanced group decision-making through an intelligent algorithmic approach for multiple-attribute credit evaluation with 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic sets

With the development of the internet economy, e-commerce has rapidly risen, and a large number of small and micro e-commerce enterprises have emerged. However, these enterprises have low financial information transparency, small scale, and high development uncertainty. Therefore, combining the characteristics of the internet economy, it is of great significance to dynamically evaluate credit risk. This not only helps to enhance the quality and rationality of credit risk evaluation results, but also helps to improve financing efficiency and reduce financing risks. The credit evaluation for small and micro enterprises is a multiple-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM). Recently, the TODIM (an acronym in Portuguese of interactive and multicriteria decision making) and TOPSIS method has been inaugurated to cope with MAGDM issues. The 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic sets (2TLNSs) are inaugurated as an effective tool for characterizing uncertain information during the credit evaluation for small and micro enterprises. In this paper, the 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic TODIM-TOPSIS (2TLNN-TODIM-TOPSIS) method is inaugurated to solve the MAGDM under 2TLNSs. Finally, a numerical case study for credit evaluation for small and micro enterprises is inaugurated to confirm the proposed method. The prime contribution of this paper are outlined: (1) The information entropy based on score function and accuracy function are built on the 2TLNSs to obtain weight information; (2) an integrated the 2-tuple linguistic neutrosophic TODIM-TOPSIS (2TLNN-TODIM-TOPSIS) method is established to cope with MAGDM; (3) An illustrative example for credit evaluation for small and micro enterprises has accomplished to illustrate the 2TLNN-TODIM-TOPSIS; (4) some comparative analysis are employed to verify the 2TLNN-TODIM-TOPSIS method.

The employment effects of short selling: evidence from China

This study examines the impact of short selling on firm-level employment growth. Exploiting the staggered short-sale deregulation in China, we find that short selling has a significant negative effect on employment growth. We establish causality by applying a propensity score matching difference-in-differences (PSM-DiD) method and an instrumental variable (IV) approach. Exploring the underlying mechanisms, we find that financial constraints, information transparency, and agency costs are three plausible channels by which short selling affects employment growth. Furthermore, a series of cross-sectional tests suggest that the effect of short selling on employment growth is concentrated in non-state-owned enterprises (non-SOEs), firms with higher operating risk, firms with lower governance quality, firms in regions with weaker labor protection, and in periods prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Overall, our study offers novel evidence on the consequences of short selling on employment growth in an emerging market, complementing the literature on short sales and labor market outcomes.

The article is devoted to the study of the use of IFRS by small business entities in Ukraine. Implementation of international financial reporting standards (IFRS) is a significant step on the way to harmonizing the domestic accounting system with international standards. This process should contribute to the improvement of the quality of financial reporting of enterprises, transparency of their activities and competitiveness on the world market. IFRS are global financial reporting standards designed to ensure comparability of financial reporting of enterprises in different countries. In the course of the work, the impact of IFRS on small business, the peculiarities of implementation of IFRS by small business entities were analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages of IFRS implementation by small business entities are determined. The advantages were attributed to: improving the quality of financial reporting, increasing the transparency and comparability of financial information, facilitating the company's entry into international markets, establishing partnerships with foreign companies, attracting foreign investments and obtaining external loans. Among the disadvantages are the costs of implementing IFRS and increasing the complexity of accounting. It was established that the use of IFRS by small business entities is an important factor in increasing their financial stability and competitiveness. It has been proven that the implementation of IFRS by small business entities in Ukraine is accompanied by certain problems that are directly related to the specifics of the application of IFRS, as well as to other, both internal and external, challenges faced by enterprises at the moment, the main of which are: lack of awareness and qualification of accountants, financial difficulties, peculiarities of taxation. The directions for optimizing the implementation of IFRS by small business entities are presented, the problems that may arise in this case are identified, and the directions for their solution are proposed. Conclusions are drawn, directions for further research are suggested.

Family business: transparency in financial information from corporate governance practices

The studies on family businesses hold significance due to the imperative to understand their historical and current influence on regional and national economies globally. This article aims to identify and characterize governance practices in such businesses and determine their impact on crafting and presenting transparent financial information—a strategy that ensures sustainability. The study defines transparency by weaving in intricate factors of family business and bases its evaluation on management theory contributions and professionalization elements. Such an approach serves as a foundation to bolster the prevailing consolidation trends in these entities. The research adopts a case study methodology combined with a descriptive lens, incorporating fundamental aspects of explanatory and correlational research. Employing Pearson's correlation coefficient helped establish causal relationships and discern the interplay between variables, facilitated by a questionnaire. Analysis unveils a pronounced and contemporary correlation between corporate governance variables and financial transparency.

ENTREPRENEURIAL SOCIAL CAPITAL AND PERFORMANCE OF MICRO, SMALL, AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES

This study aimed to establish how entrepreneurial social capital influenced the Performance of MSMEs in Mombasa so as to gain an understanding of which strategies need to be formulated so as to stimulate the performance of the MSMEs. To achieve this objective, specific objectives included assessing the extent to which structural social capital, relational social capital, and, thirdly, cognitive and social capital influence the performance of MSMEs in Mombasa County. The research was guided by theories, including Social, signaling, and Resource-based view theories. The research adopted a descriptive design, with the population targeted being drawn from MSMEs operating within Mombasa County, from which a representative sample of 353 SMEs was selected as respondents. The respondents were selected using random sampling. Data that the researcher collected was collected with the aid of structured questionnaires, and finally, data was assessed, and inferences were made through descriptive statistics that guided the researcher to draw conclusions. The researcher found that dimensions of social capital, structural, relational, and cognitive, do significantly and positively influence the performance of MSMEs in Mombasa County. The study concluded that a positive correlation exists, implying that business management has to harness social capital correctly to improve business performance and poster upward growth. The study advances the empirical findings and theoretical foundations of social capital. In further research in this field, it would be useful to compare the influence of social capital on competitiveness indicators confirmed in firms’ financial reports by using a sample of enterprises with more transparent financial information.

Analysis of Regional Financial Report Disclosure Factors: A Literature Review

This research looks at various factors influencing regional government financial report disclosure in Indonesia. The method used is a literature review using the SINTA database with a publication period of ten years. The results show that good audit opinions, a high level of independence, and effective regional revenue management positively impact the disclosure of regional government financial reports. Other factors, such as political pressure, population size, and regional wealth, also play an important role in shaping transparency. Increasing openness of financial information at the regional level strengthens accountability and builds public trust in local government. Based on these findings, it is known that it is important for local governments to pay attention to factors such as audit opinion, level of independence, and revenue management to increase financial report disclosure. In addition, understanding political pressures, population size, and regional wealth is also needed to form effective transparency policies. Increasing the transparency of financial information at the regional level is expected to strengthen government accountability and build public trust, support good governance, and increase the efficiency of regional financial management

IMPACT OF THE AUDIT ON THE TRANSPARENCY AND DISCLOSURE OF FINANCIAL INFORMATION

This research work focuses on auditing and its impact on companies. The general objective is to exhaustively analyze the “impact of auditing on the transparency and disclosure of financial information in companies” by conducting interviews with an auditor to know her opinion on the importance of the audit and the positive impact that companies have when applying it. To achieve this objective, a qualitative approach was used. The mandatory tax audit is a legal requirement and not an option, its value is established by the SET and must be requested. According to the suppliers, the accounting is rated with a “5”. The audited companies provide additional details, such as purchase forms by items or areas and by type of products, which increases the reliability of financial information.Auditors monitor the implementation of policies and procedures, identify errors and poor practices, and offer recommendations for improvements. Although auditing is not the only source for investment decisions, more than 85% of investors consider it. Interpersonal relationships improve significantly with the auditors’ opinion, increasing the transparency of the company. It is suggested that the audit should be carried out without being mandatory to have a greater impact. The audited companies must know the technical control standards to comply with them rigorously, and the results The final results of the audits must be objective, comply with the technical processes and the law. In conclusion, this research work provides valuable information on the implementation of the audit in companies.

An Analysis of Lagos Audience Perception of Channels Business Morning Programme on Investor Relations

This study analysed the perception of Channels’ Business Morning programme on investor relations in Lagos. The objectives of the study were to: find out the extent of exposure of audience in Lagos to Channels’ Business Morning programme; investigate the perception of audience in Lagos of Channels’ Business Morning and ascertain whether or not the perception of audience in Lagos of Business Morning translates to investment decision. The survey research design was employed for the study. The population of the study was 2,952,861 from selected cities in Lagos, with 384 as the sample size using the Keyton’s table. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Among others, the study found out that there is a high level of exposure to Channels’ Business Morning programme in Lagos. It also showed that respondents held positive perception of the programme as a valid and objective source of business news and investment- related information. The researchers recommended that citizens should take advantage of their exposure to financial programmes such as Channels’ Business Morning to continually increase their understanding of finance and investments and improve their financial wellbeing. Corporate organisations should leverage on financial media programmes such as Channels’ Business Morning, to enhance their engagement with shareholders and potential investors by making available accurate and transparent financial information. This study aims to analyze the suitability of the preparation and presentation of public service agency financial reports at Bhayangkara Tk.III Manado Hospital based on PSAP No. 13. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that Bhayangkara Hospital Tk.III Manado has implemented PSAP Number 13 as a whole in the preparation and presentation of financial reports on an accrual basis, namely an accounting recording technique where the recording is made when a transaction occurs even though cash has not been received, so as to be able to present transparent financial information and accurate and accountable. Legal Justice: The Abolition of the Principle of Bank Secrecy for Tax Interests in Indonesia

As a member of the international community, Indonesia has a responsibility to participate in the execution of global policy. Recently, a global policy was implemented to address the sharing of financial information between countries. Financial information transparency between countries requires the sharing of bank customers’ financial information via both manual and automatic transmission. This policy aims to prevent economic crimes, including tax evasion. This study combines normative legal research and in-depth interviews aimed at determining how to determine how legal justice can be achieved in the context of the exchange of financial data for taxes purposes in Indonesia. The principle of bank secrecy functions as a safeguard to protect bank clients’ right to privacy, which is a human right that must be preserved. On the one hand, citizens have a civic duty to voluntarily fulfill their tax obligations. On the other hand, as bank clients, citizens also have the right to be protected from violations of privacy. Assuming the perspective of legal justice, this paper seeks to describe the balance between these two needs. Finally, the study’s results support the argument for abolishing the principle of bank secrecy, especially in the realm of taxation.

Evaluation of the Influence of Profitability and Financial Performance on Stock Price

To achieve the goal of realizing transparency and accountability of financial information, every company that is to be published is required to submit annual financial reports to the Indonesia Stock Exchange and to investors. This study aims to determine the effect of financial performance variables on profitability and its impact on stock prices in the Property sector and companies Real Estate listed on the Malaysia Stock Exchange in 2010-2015. The sample used is secondary data from the Malaysian Stock Exchange. Samples were taken by method purposive sampling, and there are 5 companies that meet the sample selection criteria. Statistical tests were carried out using the panel data regression test random effect. The research results show that partially Current Ratio No significant effect on Return on Asset. However Total Asset Turnover and Debt Ratio positive and significant effect on Return on Asset. Simultaneously variable Current Ratio, Total Asset Turnover and Debt Ratio significant effect on Return on Asset. Return on Asset also does not have a significant impact on the share price.

Does the adoption of Ind AS affect the performance of firms in India?

The increasing prevalence of IFRS adoption has resulted in enhanced transparency, accounting quality, and comparability of financial information among firms, especially in emerging markets worldwide, including India. Nonetheless, the question of whether the adoption of IFRS has led to improved firm performance persists. To address this question, this study examines the impact of transitioning from India’s GAAP-based accounting standards to IFRS-converged standards (Ind AS) on non-financial firms’ performance from 2013 to 2022. The empirical findings reveal that the convergence of Indian accounting standards with IFRS significantly improves firm performance, as demonstrated by a positive coefficient of 0.0166 for Ind AS in the fixed-effect model. The study also validates the original empirical findings using the return on equity (ROE) measure of firm performance, which yielded a coefficient of 0.0197, further confirming that the adoption of Ind AS leads to an increase in the performance of Indian firms. These results contribute new insights to the existing IFRS literature and have implications for policymakers and managers.

IMPACT This article looks at the debates about EPSAS (the harmonization process of public sector accounting in the European Union) from various perspectives. The authors’ aim is to motivate vital research co-operation between scholars and practitioners. Bridging theoretical research and practice will allow a deeper investigation of the accounting practices within the various levels of government and should reduce the options allowed by the future standards, guaranteeing transparency and comparability of financial information between and within member states.

Pengaruh Pendapatan Asli Daerah, Belanja Daerah dan Kompleksitas Pemerintahan Terhadap Transparansi Informasi Keuangan Daerah Via Website

This study aims to provide empirical evidence of the effect of regional original income, regional spending and government complexity on the transparency of regional financial information via websites in Indonesia. This study examines the transparency of financial information on the websites of 84 provincial governments in Indonesia based on the availability and accessibility of this information. This study was tested using 2 methods, namely the regression method for availability and the multiple regression method for the accessibility of financial information on the provincial government website. According to the findings of this study, regional own-source revenues have a beneficial and sizeable impact on financial transparency. Meanwhile, regional spending and government complexity have no effect on the transparency of the regional financial data website. The findings of this study reinforce the agency theory, namely that high local revenue indicates the government's success in carrying out its duties and responsibilities to the community. This research can help the government by providing quantitative empirical evidence about the effect of local original income on the transparency of regional financial information through websites, thereby enabling the government to be more open with other financial information.
