Knowledge, attitude and practice of healthcare ethics among final year medical and nursing students at a college in South India

Introduction and Aim: The basic knowledge about health care ethics is very much necessary for both medical and nursing students before they start dealing with patients. The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge of, attitude and practice of health care ethics among final year medical and nursing students and to compare the same among these students. Methodology: The cross sectional study was done using a validated questionnaire on 75 students each from final year MBBS and nursing. The collected data was interpreted using appropriate statistical methods like percentages, proportions. Chi square test was used for comparison, p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The medical and nursing students included in our study had significant knowledge about medical ethics like autonomy where there is respect to patient and his decisions regarding treatment plans. The students lacked sensitivity on issues of paternalism. Majority of respondents also felt that any wrong doing by health care professional should be conveyed to the patient. Respondents had inclination towards learning ethics and wanted it in their respective curriculum. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the paucity in knowledge of health care ethics among medical and nursing students. Respondents had an inclination to study ethics of health care.

Oral Health Awareness among Undergraduate Medical Students and Interns: A Cross-Sectional Study

Introduction: Oral health is an integral component of general health. Many oral systemic diseases manifest orally, and general medical practitioners are the primary health-care providers in society, so understanding oral health and its significance is critical for medical students and practitioners. The present study was conducted to assess the oral health awareness among MBBS students and interns. Materials and Methods: After obtaining institutional ethical committee approval, the present cross-sectional study was conducted among 318 subjects who were second, third, and final year MBBS students and interns of ESIC medical college and PGIMSR. A validated, self-structured questionnaire comprising of 20 questions pertaining to oral health awareness were prepared using Google forms and was sent to the study participants tthrough WhatsApp and the findings were analysed using proper statistical methods. Results: In the present study, 19% of the study population had good oral health awareness, 49% and 32% had fair and poor oral health awareness, respectively. The final year students had a good oral health awareness compared to the other years of students and interns. Oral health awareness scores did not differ significantly between male and female study participants. Conclusion: The present study found a fair oral health awareness amongst the study population. Clinical Significance: A proper knowledge of oral health is very essential among the medical students as they would be approached by the general population for most of the primary health-care needs.

Association of learning styles with academic performance of final year MBBS students

The research paradigm of this enquiry is post positivism. It reflects a deterministic philosophy in which causes probably determine effects or outcome. The knowledge that develops through a post positivist lens is based on careful observation and measurement of objective reality that exist “out there” in the world. Thus, developing numeric measures of observations and studying the behavior of individual become paramount for a post positivist, close ended question are used in research. This method of inquiry may be carried out in, test or verifies theories or explanation, identifies variable to study, relates variable in question, observe and measures information in numbers. Setting and duration of study: This observational study was conducted at Bolan Medical College, Quetta, Balochistan, from 1st March 2017 to 30 March 2018. Result: The results were concluded from a total of 200 candidates from different medical universities that became part of the study. In the earlier section of the results, descriptive statistics were presented. The three main determinants of the study were activist, reflector, the rest where the mean values were illustrated as 6.82, 8.04, and 7.47 respectively the highest number of candidates were 35 in total with percentage as 17.5%. This was followed by 33 individuals that accounted for 16.5%.

Psychological Impact and Its Correlates Following COVID-19 Pandemic Among Medical Students

Background: The continuous spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, home quarantine, strict isolation measures and delays in opening educational institutions across the country is expected to influence the mental health of college students. The aim of our study is to assess the psychological impact and its correlates following the COVID-19 lockdown period, among the MBBS exam going students of a private medical college, Puducherry. Methods: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study was conducted among Undergraduate students in a private medical college of Puducherry between January-March 2021. Around 204 exam going students from Pre-final and Final year MBBS were enrolled in the study with their consent. Depression, Anxiety, and Stress among the study participants following the COVID 19 lockdown period was assessed using Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS 21). Data was captured and Spearman`s correlation, Ordinal logistics regression was applied to find the predictors of Depression, Anxiety and Stress. Results: Among 204 study participants, the distribution was almost equal between Pre-Final (52%) and Final year (48%) MBBS students. Prevalence of Stress, Anxiety and Depression among students was found to be 38.2%, 52.8% and 48% respectively. Practicing regular physical activity, history of contact with COVID19 patients, year of MBBS were found to be predictors of Stress, Anxiety and Depression. It was also found that Stress level increases with increase in age. Conclusion: Around half of the study participants have either of the psychological impact following COVID 19 lockdown period that may adversely affect their performance in university exams. Still, there is a scope of further research that could be planned by applying interventions to improve the mental health status of the students.

Knowledge and Practice about COVID-19 among Medical Students

Background: Covid-19 pandemic has brought the world to a standstill where the only hope to end this is the prevention and control of the disease. Medical students hold significant importance in this crisis as being the individuals at increased risk as well as future health care providers. Aim: To assess the knowledge and practice regarding Covid-19 Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Lahore Medical and Dental College, Tulspura. The duration of study was three months from Feb 2021 till April 2021 after the approval of synopsis by IRB committee, LMDC. Study Population included final year MBBS students. Sample size was n=113.Sampling technique used was non-probability convenience sampling technique. Data collection was done using a structured questionnaire consisting of three sections viz socio demographic characteristics, knowledge and practice about Covid-19. Data entry and analysis was done using IBM SPSS version 21. Results: Study participants included 48.7% males and 51.3% females. Most of the students 99.1% were aware of the Covid-19 pandemic. About 99.1% students also knew that it is an infectious disease and 96.5% knew that a virus is the causative agent of Covid-19. However, 84.1% had correct knowledge regarding the incubation period of the disease. Maximum respondents 73.5% believed that everyone is equally susceptible to get infected with Covid-19. Fever and cough are the most common symptoms of the disease and internet and electronic media are most common source of information regarding Covid-19. Majority 46% of respondents did not adopt good practice of regular washing of hands. Nearly 63.7% ate healthy food and 73.5% maintained healthy life style focusing on outbreak Conclusion: The medical students had adequate basic knowledge regarding the disease, electronic media and internet being the most common source of knowledge. The practices of mask wearing and adoption of healthy lifestyle were widely adopted yet the practice of hand hygiene and reduced social mobility was poorly conducted. Awareness and Knowledge Regarding Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Practice among House Officers Versus General Practitioner

Aim: To compare the awareness and knowledge regarding IYCF practice among House Officers versus general practitioner Study Design: Cross sectional comparative study Place and duration of study: Pediatric Department LUMHS from January 2018 to June 2018 Methodology: A total of 200 doctors were selected with non-probability purposive sampling technique and divided equally in Group A (House Officers and Group B (General Practitioner) for our convenience. A total of 100 fresh medical graduates (House Officers) and 100 general practitioner of at least 3 years’ experience were included in the study. A structured questionnaire was use to collect the information regarding awareness of IYCF. Two groups were compared by using Chi square test and p value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 200 participants were divided in two groups, Group A consist of 100 house officers and Group B 100 general practitioner. Thirty questions were asked from each participants and response rate was 100%. For one question both groups answered 100%, for 27 questions house officers gave correct answers as compared to general practitioner, while for 2 questions general practitioner answers correctly then the house officers. Conclusion: Fresh Doctors (House officers had better knowledge regarding the IYCF practice as compared to General Practitioner. Knowledge of Medical Students about Infant Feeding Practices

Objectives: To compare medical student’s knowledge about breast feeding practices at the induction and exit from medical college. Study design: Comparative study Place and duration of study: Department of Pediatrics, University College of Medicine & Dentistry, The University of Lahore. Study was conducted from January 2019 to December 2019. Material and method: Total 200 students were enrolled, 100 from first year and 100 from final year class. Ethical approval was taken from ethical review committee data was collected on hand filled questionnaire. Results: There were 39.5% males and 60.5% female students. The ANOVA test of the variance was applied to compare the knowledge of first year and final year students. Final year students have a good knowledge regarding timing of initiation and pattern of breastfeeding whereas knowledge regarding advice of pre-lacteal, continuation of breastfeeding up to 6 months and frequency of complementary feeding for initial days was lacking in both first year and final year MBBS students. Conclusion: This study concludes that our curriculum has incorporated adequate knowledge regarding benefits of breast feeding, but the students lack practical knowledge and skills of counseling the parents about avoiding pre-lacteal feeds and promoting complementary feeding, that is also essential for child growth and development. Transition blues: Sources of Stress among final year medical students approaching graduation

Background: To assess the prevalence of the most common sources of stress among graduating final year medical students and to compare the students on gender and on a relative belonging to a medical profession. Methods: Students from two consecutive batches of final year MBBS were requested to complete a self-developed questionnaire about the various sources of stress. The study commenced from September 2018 to January 2020. Results were entered and analyzed in SPSS version 23. Descriptive statistics and independent samples T-test were used to analyze the data gathered. Results: A total of 194 (102 female, 92 male) final year MBBS class students participated in the study. The three most common sources of stress reported were; dealing with the practical life after graduation; encountering senior doctors as bosses and the highest expectations of their family/friends. Nearly two thirds of students reported high over stress levels. Female students were significantly more likely to report higher overall stress levels. On individual stress related items, females were significantly more likely to be stressed about the practical life ahead, about not feeling capable enough to deal with human life, about actual encounter with patients, and about encounter with senior doctors as their bosses. Students who had a parent or a sibling who was a doctor were significantly more likely to be stressed about the highest expectation of family friends. Conclusions: A significant number of final year medical students are highly stressed about the transition to working life. Female medical students are more likely to report overall stress as well as on particular stress related aspects of practical life and undergraduate training. Influence of Electronic Media on the spread of Information and Development of Opinion Related to Covid-19 among the Medical Students of Islamabad

Background: The objectives of this study were to assess the role played by and the impact of electronic media in the formation of viewpoints for COVID-19 among medical students of Foundation University, Islamabad. Methods: After obtaining ethical approval, we conducted a cross-sectional study using non-probability consecutive sampling over a period of 06 weeks. A 28 closed-ended item questionnaire was used to collect data from students of first to final year MBBS. Data was analysed using SPSS version 20. Results: Out of 232 respondents, 26.3% were male and 73.3% were female. Nearly all (99.6%) had access to electronic media, and the majority (93.5%) received information and updates about COVID-19 through it. Most students (91.8%) felt that it is the right tool to spread awareness regarding COVID-19, and 90.5% felt it could help slow the spread of disease by promoting healthy behavioural practices. Most (80.2%) concurred that electronic media has a more beneficial than harmful influence on its users during the pandemic. However, 70.3% of students felt that unverified and exaggerated news resulted in fear, panic and stress. More female students believed that electronic media promoted panic buying (85.9%, p = 0.03), leads to mental health problems (84.8%, p = 0.014), hence requires regulation (93.5%, p = 0.03) compared to male students. Conclusion: Electronic media played an important role in the spread of information regarding COVID-19. However, regulation of the integrity and volume of information is required to prevent panic, stress and fear.

E-Learning: A Boon in Pandemic

The onset of COVID-19 brought with itself many revolutionary changes in the whole world circuit, be it entertainment, research, education, or medical practice. The quarantine mode made unique challenges for the medical education, and thanks to the ever-inquisitive minds of the technical people, various e-learning tools were developed for the students and the teachers to help bridge the gap between them through technology. This study was done in a tertiary medical college in central India where the students were asked to rate the e-learning provided by the teachers in the medical college. Methodology: About 100 medical students from a tertiary medical teaching college in Central India were randomly selected from first to final year, and an online questionnaire was provided to them to answer the questions. The answers were organized, tabulated, and inferences were drawn. The study took place from January 2021 to April 2021. It was a descriptive study. Appropriate tests were applied accordingly. Observations: Out of a total of 100 medical students studied, 30 belonged to 1st year, 25 belonged to 2nd year, 25 belonged to 3rd year, and 20 students belonged to final year MBBS. 65% were female students and 35% were male students.

Exploring the Preferred Learning Styles among first and final year MBBS students using VARK Inventory at Fauji Foundation Hospital Rawalpindi

Introduction:'Learning style' is defined as an individual's preference in obtaining and understanding information. Students use different learning styles in acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitude.
 Objective:To determine the learning styles of preclinical and clinical students belonging to 1st and final year MBBS using the VARK questionnaire; to compare learning styles of 1st and final year medical students.
 Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted to collect data about the learning style preferences of 1st and final year MBBS students of Foundation University Medical College. The VARK questionnaire was used to categorize the learning styles as Visual (V), Auditory (A), Read and Write (R) and Kinesthetic (K). This study was conducted from 15 July to 15 August 2021. A convenience sampling technique was used for data collection. A total of 249 students responded to the questionnaire.
 Results: Among 249 students, 141 were 1st-year students and 108 were final-year students. The most common learning style reported was Kinesthetic (34%), then Auditory (29%), then Visual (20%), and finally, Read/Write (17%). The majority of students (95.6%) preferred quad modal sensory modality for learning followed by trimodal (4%), unimodal (0.4%), and bimodal (0%) preferences.There was a significant difference in the mean scores of visual and auditory learning styles (overall mean of visual scores was 5.42 ± 2.9 and mean of auditory scores was 6.58 ± 2.9 ) between the students of 1st and final year.
 Conclusion:
 Majority of the students enlisted in this study had a quad modal learning preference. The most common reported
 learning style of all the students was Kinesthetic (K), followed by Auditory (A), then Visual (V), and then, Read/Write (R).

Assessment of Emotional Intelligence Levels among Students of a Public Medical College of Pakistan amidst the Crisis of Covid-19 Pandemic

ABSTRACT 
 Purpose 
 Aim of the study was to determine the standards of emotional intelligence among students of Rawalpindi Medical University, Rawalpindi. 
 Method 
 A cross-sectional study, employing the use of a self-made online questionnaire, was carried out among the students of Rawalpindi Medical University’s 1st year to final year MBBS. Convenience sampling was used to collect data, which was subsequently entered into Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version.25 for analysis.
 Results 
 The average value of emotional intelligence was calculated to be 54.34% ±13.89 SD; mean values for emotional awareness, emotional management and social awareness were found to be 65.15% ±12.6 SD, 51.12% ±12.12 SD and 48.4% ±17.39 SD respectively. 
 Conclusion 
 The emotional intelligence of the students amidst the Corona virus pandemic had a noticeably lower value compared to the values determined previously in other studies in the absence of such pandemic. This result points towards the role of pandemic-induced stress in the apparent decrease of emotional intelligence.

Knowledge and Perception of Paediatric COVID-19 among Interns and Final Year Medical Students - A Cross-sectional Study

Introduction: In India, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) reports that 8% of the COVID-19 cases were contributed by children less than 17 years which could be a sizable number considering our population size. In a resource-limited country like India, the immediate future doctors will be expected to play a crucial role as frontline health care workers against COVID-19.Objective: To assess the knowledge and perception of students with regard to paediatric COVID-19.Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done among medical students of Final year MBBS (Part I and II) and Interns/CRRIs (Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship) from two medical colleges of Chennai. After obtaining ethical approval, data werecollected using a validated structured self-administered questionnaire through online Google forms and analysed using SPSS version21 software.Results: Of the 655 participants included in the study, 213 (32.5%) were Final MBBS Part I students, 278 (42.4%) final MBBS Part II students and 164 (25.1%) were CRRIs. Most participants (83.2%) had adequate knowledge. 68.7% agreed to work in paediatric fever clinics. Majority were confident about their competency in counseling parents of children (90.7%) and adequate PPE measures (86%). However, few participants (26.3%) felt they were competent to identify complications in children.Conclusion: With COVID-19 pandemic in its second year, the medical students have developed adequate knowledge of COVID-19 in paediatric patients and they can help the health workers in times of need.

A Comparative Study of Perception of Online Teaching Versus Traditional Teaching among MBBS Students during COVID Crisis

Background: COVID-19 pandemic has created thelargest disruption in education systems in history. Numerous medical institutions have shifted to online teaching with the hope to reduce viral transmission.Objectives:To compare the effectiveness of online teaching and traditional teaching in the domains of collaborative learning, critical thinking skills and social interaction and to describe the advantages and difficulties faced in online learning by MBBS students.Materials and Methods: Anonline-based cross-sectional study was conducted fromMay 2021 to August 2021 in a private medical college in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India. Among the 600 MBBS students attending online classes from the first year to final year MBBS, 574 students consented tothe study through mail and were studied using a semi-structured questionnaire prepared in Google form and sent through mail. Descriptive analysis was done and the association between the categorical variables were tested using chi-square test.Results: Traditional way of teaching was perceived to improve the critical thinking skills (p <0.0006), social interaction skills (p<0.044) and collaborative learning (p <0.01) more than online teaching. Advantages of online teaching identified were comfortable learning environment (38%) easier for slow learners (19%), learning at their own pace (18%) etc. Difficulties faced in online teaching were technical difficulties (62%), lack of self-motivation (61%), time management (56%) etc. Conclusion: Challenges faced by the students need to be identified earlier and Governments/educational institutions can focus more on removing the barriers to connectivity.

Female Medical Students’ Relationship Styles And Their Intended Primary Care and Non-Primary Care Postgraduate Specialty Preferences

Objective: To compare the predominant relationship/attachment styles of final year female medical students of a Pakistani medical college with their intended primary care and non-primary care post-graduate speciality preferences.
 Study Design: Cross-sectional comparative study.
 Place and Duration of Study: Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls, Karachi, from Feb to Apr 2019.
 Methodology: Final year MBBS students were included in the study. Students were asked to complete a validated relationship scales questionnaire to determine the dominant relationship/attachment style. Students were also asked to identify their intended first choice for post-graduate specialization from a list of 28 primary care and non-primary care post-graduate specialities.
 Results: Out of 113 female students, 48 (43%) were found to have a predominantly dismissing relationship style (among four variants of relationship styles). Out of 95 (84%) students opted for a non-primary care speciality for pursuing post-graduation, out of which 37 (33%) students chose Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Comparison of participant’s relationship styles with postgraduate speciality showed no significant difference (p-value=0.40).
 Conclusion: Medical students should be provided adequate and timely exposure to various specialities available for postgraduation (primary and non-primary care specialities) and should be guided appropriately to help them make informed career choices.

Effect of Covid-19 on Medical Education and Examination: A Cross-Sectional Survey across Medical Colleges of Pakistan

Background: COVID-19 outbreak was first reported in the Wuhan city in 2019, causing the whole world to undergo a period of lockdown to curtail the disease. This affected education and examination of medical students across the world including Pakistan. Objective: To know the impact of COVID-19 on the medical education and future of medical examination, from medical students’ perspective. Methods: An online qualitative survey was conducted among the medical students of different medical colleges of Pakistan from 20th October 2021 to 15th November 2021. Google forms were used to collect data. Informed consent was obtained at the start of the survey. SPSS version 22 was used for data analysis. Results: Our study had a response rate of 99.7% with 4548 respondents, ranging from the first year to final year MBBS. The highest number of respondents were from 1st-year MBBS and accounted for 25.4% (n=1153 responses). 93% (n=4254) of the respondents agreed that lockdown had impacted their education, 85.1% (n=3870) were having online classes and only 9.6% (n=436) were satisfied with online education. 65% (n=2998) considered online education to be an ineffective teaching method. Only 25% of the respondents (n=1137) wanted to be examined online whereas 34.5% (n=1571) were of the view that online viva was an ineffective method of examination. 41% (n=1897) of the respondents considered that students should be promoted without examination during the COVID-19 pandemic and 41.5% (n=1886) thought that students who had passed the written exam should be promoted without viva. 46% (n=2117) favored the rational method of exam. Conclusions: Our data showed that the majority of students having online classes were not satisfied with this mode of education due to financial constraints, connectivity issues and quality of lectures and these problems need to be resolved.

Students Dreem From Pre-Clinical To Clinical Years-A Cross Sectional Analysis From Rehman Medical College, Peshawar.

Educational environment is a key indicator of student learning and reflects quality of education and curriculum. With the boom of medical colleges in the private sector, parents put great stress on education and educational environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in perceptions regarding educational environment between pre-clinical and clinical year MBBS students and to determine year wise strengths and weaknesses of the MBBS program. The study utilized the cross-sectional study design and employed, "Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) questionnaire. The survey included 142 pre-clinical (1st and 2nd year MBBS) and 185 clinical students (3rd to Final year MBBS). The total DREEM score for the program was 119/200. Total score for pre-clinical years was 120/200 and that for clinical years was 118/200. There was no statistically significant difference between students' perceptions of pre-clinical and clinical years. When the sub scale analysis was done, perceptions of learning (POL) (p=0.007), perceptions of teachers (POT) (p=0.003) and social self-perception (SSP) (p=0.025) scales showed statistically significant difference between pre-clinical and clinical years. Academic self-perception (ASP) and perceptions of atmosphere (POA) showed no statistically significant difference. About the educational environment perception students regarded it as more positive than negative. Pre-clinical students were more satisfied than clinical students except for SSP scale. Students pointed out weaknesses in the curriculum especially for teaching and learning and in the atmosphere, more so for clinical students than pre-clinical students. Findings of this study guide that emphasis shall be put on teaching development and CME activities and regular feedback mechanisms for both students and faculty members.

Demonstrate, Observe, Assist, and Perform versus structured educational video in imparting standard skill in male urinary bladder catheterization

Background: Conventional teaching-learning methods often fail to assure competency in male bladder catheterization (MBC) in the Indian Medical Graduate. Introduction of structured training methods could offer a solution. Aims and Objectives: The objective of the study was to compare efficiency of demonstrate, observe, assist, and perform (DOAP) method of training in a skill lab against structured educational video (SEV)-based learning in training final MBBS students in the psychomotor skill to safely perform MBC. Materials and Methods: Following IRB and IEC clearance, final MBBS students fulfilling selection criteria were randomly allocated into two comparable groups. One group underwent skill lab training using DOAP method while the other group underwent training using a SEV by the same instructor. CRRI interns, regularly performing MBC at work by virtue of conventional training, with 6–8 months experience formed a control group. All participants underwent assessment of skill in MBC by skill lab OSCE evaluation, by assessors blinded to the participant’s method of training. Data were recorded and analyzed using standard statistical software. Trial evaluation from the trial groups was obtained using SurveyMonkey tool. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the ability of DOAP group or SEV group to safely perform MBC though a higher level of confidence was expressed with their training by DOAP group. Both trial groups statistically outperformed the control group. Conclusion: Structured training assures competence. Video-assisted training produces comparable results though DOAP method is preferred by students. A combination of the techniques may facilitate optimal training.

Knowledge, attitude and practices towards research among undergraduate medical students in a teaching hospital, Trichy

Background: Late advancements in medicine and health care have made research an integral part of modern medicine, but research in most developing countries of the world is not a mandatory component of medical education, although it is well known that it has a positive effect on the quality of medical education. This study was conducted with an objective to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice towards research among undergraduate medical students.Methods: This is an Observational KAP study done among the undergraduate medical students in a teaching hospital Trichy. Around 200 students were selected from 2nd, 3rd, final MBBS students and Interns by Consecutive sampling method.Results: Among 200 study participants, 43% were females and 57% were males. Around 16% of the study participants were second year MBBS, 17%were final year MBBS part-I, 29% from the final year MBBS part-II and 38% (76) were interns. The overall percentages of knowledge, attitude and practice of the study participants in doing a medical research were 94%, 83% and 61% respectively.Conclusions: Encouraging medical students to engage in scientific research has shown excellent performance in daily clinical practice which requires multiple skills, and doctors who have had scientific training during their medical education may have an advantage over others when it comes to decision making using information collected from various resources.

Anxiety and Coping Strategies Among Medical Students During COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-sectional Study

Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the mental health of medical students due to multiple factors like the fear of getting infected, the stress of maintaining the preventive measures, the demands of the online classes, and the uncertainty of the future. Aim: To assess the anxiety levels of the medical students and strategies, they used to cope up with the anxiety during the pandemic. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among all the first and final year MBBS students of a Women’s Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The questionnaire contained a total of 25 questions- three questions to collect the demographic data, a 7-item Generalised Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD), and 15 questions assessing their coping strategies; was distributed to all the study participants as a Google form. Data from completed questionnaires were entered into an excel sheet and analysed using Jamovi software version 1.6.23.0. Results: A total of 164 students completed the questionnaire59.1% first year MBBS students and 40.8% final year MBBS students. Mean age of the participants was 19.4 years among the first year MBBS students, and 21.7 years among the final year MBBS students. Majority of the participants had mild anxiety (43.2%). There was no statistically significant difference in the anxiety levels of the first year MBBS and final year MBBS students. The most commonly used coping strategy factor was putting trust in the god (59.7% of first year MBBS, and 62.6% of final year MBBS) while the least commonly used coping strategy was substance abuse-use of alcohol or drugs to feel better (0 among first year MBBS and 2.9% among the final year MBBS). There was statistically significant association between one of the coping strategy and anxiety-I can adjust to the situation and deal with the changes and anxiety levels (p=0.010). Conclusion: COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the mental health of medical students by causing anxiety. There is a need to mitigate these negative effects by introducing supportive programs in the form of educational programs, yoga and meditation to relieve anxiety and maintain mental health of medical students.
