Field Sequential LCD using Organic EI Backlighting

We have proposed a new field sequential full-color display composed of an optical compensated birefringent (OCB) mode, p-Si TFT LCD panel and a multicolored organic electro luminescent device (OEL). In this display system, each merits of the LC device with high-resolution capability and the OEL device with high-speed response are combined. In addition, by using synchronously scan method, we could realize the field sequential display with a conventional TFT panel. We fabricated a trial display and confirmed its promising characteristics as a field sequential full-color display in the next generation.

P‐28: Color Field Sequential LCD Using an OCB‐TFT‐LCD

AbstractLately a color field sequential LCD is widely noticed because it requires no micro‐color‐filter. To realize the color field sequential LCD in the direct view type, we adopted an OCB mode which can be obtained fast response and uniform alignment in large area, and a low‐temperature p‐Si TFT which can be possible scanning high speed and fabrication large size. Further, we optimize the driving method, and obtain good display condition in a trial‐fabrication of 4 inches size color field sequential LCD.

Reflective Field-Sequential LCD without Micro-Color Filters using Color Polarizers

We propose a new reflective color LCD using color polarizers based on the confirmed field-sequential LCD (FS-LCD) system. As a result of the experiment, it is that bright color images can be obtained by this reflective LCD.

Mechanism of Fast Response and Recover in Bend Alignment Cell

We have proposed a field sequential liquid crystal display using OCB-cell with extremely fast response and have fabricated an excellent full color display without color filter as a trial. In the field sequential LCD the response (and recover) time of the bend cell is less than several milliseconds, which is extremely faster than the TN-cell or the homogeneous cell. In this paper, the mechanism of the excellent response of the bend cell is analyzed based on the motion equations using Ericksen-Leslie's anisotropic viscosity coefficients. From the results it is clarified that the back flow slows down the response speed in almost all nematic LC cells, while the same flow effect extremely accelerates the response of the bend cell.
