Collection of Literary Ecological Poetry "Works of Biology Education Students" Overview of Physical Intrinsic Elements

Good poetry is poetry that contains intrinsic elements in it. The more fulfilled these intrinsic elements, the more meaningful the content in it will be. Ecolinguistics is one of the studies in linguistics that connects ecosystems with language that is part of human life (ecology). Literature in this poetry-making activity, students are expected to be able to improve their abilities in the field of poetry which tells them the connection between language and the study program they are taking, namely biology. The purpose of this study was to find out what are the physical intrinsic elements in a collection of literary ecology poems by first semester students, Biology Education, Indraprasta University PRGI. The research method used is descriptive qualitative by taking intrinsic elements from fictional elements consisting of diction, rhyme, typography, images, and language style. The data was collected by collecting the results of the student's literary ecology poetry, after the data was collected it was analyzed and described based on the table of physical elements. The results showed that from 28 collections of ecological poetry by students, there were physical intrinsic elements, namely diction, rhyme, typography, imagery, and language style. The most physical intrinsic elements in the collection of ecological poetry are style of language 28 or 31%, then the second most is diction or 28.6%, the third most is imagery as much as 25 or 27.4%, then rhyme 9 or 9.8%, and the last is typography as much as 3 or 3.2%. Language style and diction are the most common in the physical intrinsic elements of a collection of ecological poetry by students.Keywords: Intrinsic element; Physical Elements; Ecology Poetry.

Ästhetische Hybridisierung von Fiktionalität und Faktualität als Erzählstrategie in historical narratives am Beispiel des jugendliterarischen Werks Dunkelnacht von Kirsten Boie (2021)

This article offers a literary analysis of the historical dimension of Kirsten Boie’s young adult literary work Dunkelnacht (2021). The article first gives a critical assessment of the mostly consensual theories of docufictional narration and historiographical metafiction, then as a second step illustrates the possibility of the aesthetic hybridization of factual and fictional elements for the construction of a contingent narrative world. Following this, the article focuses on the implemented narrative strategies that augment the impression of the construct character of docufiction. The following questions guide the intended analysis using the close reading method: How are historical aspects treated on the level of histoire in Kirsten Boie’s work Dunkelnacht (2021)? How is the historical context illuminated through the representation of the past and the mediation of memory components and aestheticized at the level of discours? What can the art of language and rhetorical figures achieve for the evocation and deconstruction of history (e.g., hybridizations of novelty and reference to facts)? How does the interweaving of content and narratological aspects of factuality and fictionality and of approaching and distancing from reality take place? How are narrative strategies such as intertextual and multi-perspective narration (especially the complexity of contrasting perspectives of the same historical events) used? The focalization is assumed to be the crucial strategy of docufictional narration in Kirsten Boie’s novel Dunkelnacht (2021). Therefore, the analysis considers such levels of focalization as language, ideology, time, space, and perception/introspection. 

The Unlikely Heroine beyond Family Trauma: Four Women’s Fictions of the Second World War in Greece

My analysis of Victoria Hislop’s The Island (2005), Leah Fleming’s The Girl under the Olive Tree (2013), Sofka Zinovieff’s The House on Paradise Street (2012), and Brenda Reid’s The House of Dust and Dreams (2010) examines their treatment of the exotic setting of Greece in the specific historical context of World War II, while following the conventions of popular romance or popular women’s fiction. As a consequence of the conflict, the traditional family structure is compromised. This is particularly evident in the case of the female protagonists, heroines who refuse to fall within the traditional happyever-after ending and opt for a fulfilling career, a longfelt vocation, singlehood or simply unusual friendships of their choice. As a result, even in novels categorized as “romances”, the presence of a hero or lover is questioned and redefined. My analysis starts with Victoria Hislop’s The Island, a historical narrative of the leper colony at Spinalonga, around the time of the Second World War. For comparative purposes regarding the treatment of popular fiction elements, Brenda Reid’s The House of Dust and Dreams and Leah Fleming’s The Girl under the Olive Tree are discussed as being more generically romantic. Finally, Sofka Zinovieff’s The House on Paradise Street offers an example of a cohesive, compact combination of political confrontation and popular romance, while at the same time England appears as the counterpoint to the exoticism of Greece.

The Bad Impact of Beauty Standard in American Culture in Reasons to be by Neil LaBute

This thesis is an analysis of the Drama Reasons to Be Ptetty (2008) by Neil LaBiute. The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of beauty standard impact in American culture. This analysis is also intended to expose how the contribution of fictional elements (character and action/plot) in revealing the form of the bad impact of beauty standard in American Culture. This analysis is related to the concept of feminism by Naomi Wolf.. Psychological Profile of a Serial Killer (Based on the Novel “Silence” by Thomas Raab)

The research deals with the issue of genre hybridization in the novel “Silence – Chronicle of a Killer” written by a contemporary Austrian writer Thomas Raab. An examination of the novel's composition and structure, as a text in motion, has been accomplished in the article. The novel “Silence” is an excellent illustration of how the genre of adventure has been adapted to include elements of science fiction. This novel is a love tale, a rural life saga, a formation narrative, and a psychological thriller all in one. As a fictionalized account of the life of a serial murderer with hypersensitive hearing who became a legend for his mental torment and suffering, it serves both as a biography and a thriller. Novelist Raab uses elements from classic horror novels like Frankenstein, German romantics, in particular, G. Kleist, the tale of Casper Hauser, and detective novels like Friedrich Durrenmatt's "Promise" to tell the story of Casper Hauser's disappearance in his book. A new aesthetic experience may be formed at various degrees of identification ranging from naive perception to higher levels of literary reception. Concentration is required for poetic and philosophical substance. Michel Focalut's nomadism, marginality, and authoritarian power rhetoric have been discussed in this article. The novel's ultimate content has been disclosed as the aphesis torment, emotional sublimation, as the birth of an artwork and, at the same time, death of the author, who exposes discourses, accountable for creating texts that are allocated to him.

Strategies for Translating Chinese Colloquial Expressions into English in Science Fiction: A Case Study of English Version of the Three-body Problem

In recent years, Liu Cixin’s trilogy the Three-body Problem, a science fiction novel, has broken the monopoly of foreign science fiction, won massive and popular reviews and admiration from Chinese and foreign readers, and has become an important source for Chinese culture to “go global”. To some extent, the result of English translation of science fiction has relatively affected its spread abroad. In the context of cultural differences, in order to enable overseas readers to correctly feel and understand the cultural elements of Chinese science fiction, it is necessary to properly convey specific meaning specially owned by cultural specific words during translation. Based on this, this paper takes the Three-body Problem as an source text, and through the analysis of examples, studies the English translation strategies of colloquial expressions, hoping to facilitate promoting the quality of translation work.

The Maréorama in the 1900 Universal Exhibition: a simulated Mediterranean voyage from the banks of the Seine

ABSTRACT This article presents an exploration of the mechanisms that underpinned simulacrum in the 19th century. To do so, I take as a case study an attraction presented at the Universal Exhibition of 1900: the multi-sensory panorama known as the Maréorama. This device offered audiences the experience of a half-hour boat trip across the Mediterranean Sea. In this paper I shall argue that this simulation combines period-relevant codes that link with other artistic and cultural practices of the period – early cinema, prestidigitation, Wagnerian ‘total work of art’ – and a component of technological innovation oriented towards perfecting multi-sensoriality. This combination turned the Maréorama into one of the most sophisticated mimetic immersion devices at the time, blending the tradition of the great rotundas with the effects of mobile panoramas. Other features of this panorama were the physical shocks generated by the motion of the supporting platform and the interactive role assumed by the spectator, which, along with the mimesis, added an element of fiction. I shall argue that the simulation of new realities was stimulated by the imaginaries generated by contemporary novels such as Julius Verne’s, which illustrated future scenarios and the exploration of unknown landscapes. The Maréorama allowed the spectator to travel across the Mediterranean from the shores of the Seine in a record time. Panoramas, including the Maréorama, became exponents of the utopian capacity of conquering the world, overcoming the limitations of time and space.

Domesticating vs. foreignizing positions in the translation of proper names from English into Polish and German

In this paper, the author examines corresponding equivalents in Polish and German of English proper names from the novel “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” to find out how the same fictional elements have been translated into two different target languages. Furthermore, he attempts to prove what rules can be established for the use of translation strategies when translating proper names into Polish and German. Thus, the aim of this paper is to study domesticating and foreignizing translation strategies implemented by the translators of the Polish and German editions.

The Unforgettable Jakarta in Imaginary City (2017)

Jakarta in Imaginary City by Rain Chudori (2017) presents how psychogeography theory shows that environmental effects can influence people's ways of thinking, behaviour and emotions. This study aims to prove how Jakarta as a setting of imaginary city affects the emotions and behaviour of characters. Therefore, there are four key words in this novel Dérive, Flâneur, Sense of place, and Place Attachment. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by applying the theory of Psychogeography. The use of the concept is based on the interpretation of the text and in the context of the novel. This analysis also uses many fictional elements such as plot, character, conversation and setting to reveal the meaning contained in the novel. The result of the research shows that there are three keywords that can be proven in this novel based on psychogeography theory.

Interpretation of semantics and functioning of foreign language ele-ments in fiction: linguistic and psycholinguistic aspects. The article analyzes the results of a psycholinguistic experiment devoted to the perception and un-derstanding of foreign-language elements of Polish origin. The regularities of the "alienness" degree interpretation of the presented word from the type of the presented borrowing (polonism, exoticism, inclusion) and the possibility of identifying its meaning in the context are established.

This paper discussed the realization of virtual history in romance web novels, focusing on <Midnight Mirage>. <Midnight Mirage> depicted the love story with King Munjong and Queen Hyeondeok as motifs. <Midnight Mirage> used the story of Tumun-dong 72 Loyalists and the achievements of various national institutions in King Sejong to create various central event. The fictional elements of the story were used to form a inter-class romance, emphasize the personal feelings of the opposing forces and highlight the power of the crown prince. The characteristics of a virtual history are as follows. First, it was actively borrowing modern cultural customs. Second, it takes the form of a short episode when a historical figure appears. These characteristics have epic effects such as inducing rapid immersion of readers and relaxing the tension of the narrative.

User-centered categorization of mood in fiction

PurposeReaders articulate mood in deeply subjective ways, yet the underlying structure of users' understanding of the media they consume has important implications for retrieval and access. User articulations might at first seem too idiosyncratic, but organizing them meaningfully has considerable potential to provide a better searching experience for all involved. The current study develops mood categories inductively for fiction organization and retrieval in information systems.Design/methodology/approachThe authors developed and distributed an open-ended survey to 76 fiction readers to understand their preferences with regard to the affective elements in fiction. From the fiction reader responses, the research team identified 161 mood terms and used them for further categorization.FindingsThe inductive approach resulted in 30 categories, including angry, cozy, dark and nostalgic. Results include three overlapping mood families: Emotion, Tone/Narrative, and Atmosphere/Setting, which in turn relate to structures that connect reader-generated data with conceptual frameworks in previous studies.Originality/valueThe inherent complexity of “mood” should not dissuade researchers from carefully investigating users' preferences in this regard. Adding to the existing efforts of classifying moods conducted by experts, the current study presents mood terms provided by actual end-users when describing different moods in fiction. This study offers a useful roadmap for creating taxonomies for retrieval and description, as well as structures derived from user-provided terms that ultimately have the potential to improve user experience.

Infusing New Life in Folktales: Children's Literature in India


 
 
 
 This paper attempts to look at the intersection of folktales and children's literature, and proposes to categorize the rendering of folktales for children as standard/ original version and experimental version. Folktales are the original source from which all other genres of entertainment have emanated and evolved. They have gradually transitioned from oral tradition to the textual, from textual to digital and virtual world. This does not only indicate their innate instinct of survival but also their ability to adapt to changing times. Folktales, at one point of time, were directed at audiences of all types. Over a period of time they began to be seen as part of the children's world while 'textuality' came to be associated with the adult world. This distinction got blurred in the recent transition to the virtual world where children and adults can experience a folktale on the screen alike. Thus, standard or original versions of folktales continue to exist in the society and get transmitted from one generation to the other. Experimental version on the other hand is based on innovation in the narration bringing together the folktales and the element of fiction writing, merging reality and fiction, mixing tales with lived experience. Based on the impact and usage of folktales they may be divided broadly into two categories, standard or original version, and the experimental version. This paper attempts to study written versions or collections of Indian folktales for children in the light of these two categories in folktales developed for children.
 
 
 

Mene y Guachimanes: una lectura desde la escritura geológica

This article proposes a new reading of Venezuelan oil novels Mene and Guachimanes from the theoretical framework of geological writing. While literary criticism has focused on anthropocentric aspects of these novels, a geological analysis considers other factors within their narratives (non-human agency, materiality of bodies, and accumulation processes). I argue that reading these novels from this materialist perspective enables us to highlight substantial narrative elements in oil fiction that other readings have not adequately addressed, which has led to the literary devaluation of these petrofictions.

South-Asian niche as the poetic helicon of Taufiq Rafat: a metapoetic study

The genre of metapoetry thematizes the fictional elements – the inspiration of a poet, his poetic process, meta-poetic metaphors, the role of the poet in society, and intertextual references – partaking in the making of poetry explicitly or implicitly carried through a poem within a poem technique. This paper presents Eva Müller-Zettlemann’s theoretical pronunciation of meta-poetic elements, i. e., poetic inspiration, poetic process, and meta-poetic metaphors, at play in the metalyrics of Taufiq Rafat from his anthologies Arrival of the Monsoon: Collected Poems 1947-78 (1985) and Half Moon: Poems 1979-1983 (2008). Rafat’s inspiration is the South-Asian terra firma and lived experience that makes him infuse the regional sensibility through a poetic process of perceiving and penning down immediately. His meta-poetic metaphor involves the invention of an image of cultural genesis that informs the process of poetic creativity. Moreover, the study also considers the explicit expression of the role of the poet in society and the functions of poetry in Rafat’s poems, otherwise a prose phenomenon. Thus, the paper analyzes the conscious expression of the construction of South-Asian singularity inspired by the cultural kernel in content and form in Rafat’s metalyrics.

Modern Possibilities and Limits of Artificial Intelligence Introduction into the Justice System

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are gradually becoming a part of our everyday life. From the category of elements of science fiction, they have moved into the category of elements of public administration, law enforcement, technology, and culture. The study is devoted to the problems of using AI in the system of justice. The author identifies current opportunities for implementing AI in court proceedings, explores the world experience and the content of discussions about the limits of such implementation. As a result of generalization of the existing ideas about the use of AI in justice, three concepts are identified — conservative, extensive and intensive, each of which represents the future of the judicial system in its own way regarding the development of information technologies. The conservative concept is focused on deepening digitalization of the judicial system and development of electronic justice. The extensive concept implies limited use of AI in the justice system without its direct participation in decision-making, but only with the aim of facilitating the work of judges. The intensive concept involves in-depth implementation of AI in the justice system, when AI either works on a par with a judge, or, more or less, replaces the judge.

Visions of Artificial Intelligence and Robots in Science Fiction: a computational analysis.

Driven by the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and anthropomorphic robotic systems, the various possibilities and risks of such technologies have become a topic of urgent discussion. Although science fiction (SF) works are often cited as references for visions of future developments, this framework of discourse may not be appropriate for serious discussions owing to technical inaccuracies resulting from its reliance on entertainment media. However, these science fiction works could help researchers understand how people might react to new AI and robotic systems. Hence, classifying depictions of artificial intelligence in science fiction may be expected to help researchers to communicate more clearly by identifying science fiction elements to which their works may be similar or dissimilar. In this study, we analyzed depictions of artificial intelligence in SF together with expert critics and writers. First, 115 AI systems described in SF were selected based on three criteria, including diversity of intelligence, social aspects, and extension of human intelligence. Nine elements representing their characteristics were analyzed using clustering and principal component analysis. The results suggest the prevalence of four distinctive categories, including human-like characters, intelligent machines, helpers such as vehicles and equipment, and infrastructure, which may be mapped to a two-dimensional space with axes representing intelligence and humanity. This research contributes to the public relations of AI and robotic technologies by analyzing shared imaginative visions of AI in society based on SF works.
