It is perhaps noteworthy that this is the first reported hemorrhagic complication from this drug, which has been used for over 10 years.A historical overview seems indicated. Cholestyramine was initially developed to relieve the pruritus associated with partial biliary obstruction usually in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis.
