The experimental and characterization results showed that the addition of sodium salt (i.e., Na2CO3 and NaHCO3) could greatly promote the dissolution of LSF, and induce development of mesoporous structures in zeolite without the requirement of template. The synthesized zeolite exhibited outstanding selectivity for Cu(II), which involved ion-exchange and hydroxyl complexation, and the spent zeolite after adsorbing Cu(II) can simply be regenerated by mild chemical washing. Descriptive type of research method was used in the study with 104 respondents. Primary data were gathered through Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and secondary data were sourced from records. This study was delimited to the BTTE program implemented from Ladder I to Ladder III only. Results revealed that the curriculum offered by this college was above the minimum requirements prescribed by Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The BTTE program was administered by a highly qualified department dean. The college has a modern food laboratory facility; however, the books and journals in the library are not sufficient for BTTE students. The questionnaire is the main instrument in this study. The classrooms are also considered a problem during the program implementation. The college encountered a very fast turn out of faculty handling major subjects during the first two years of implementation. The result of TESDA assessment for the major competencies was low; the Raagas 5-point scale was adopted to determine the competencies of the students. Further results revealed complaints on major subjects, which require students to buy ingredients or materials for their laboratory activities was also low. All children received a nasopharyngeal swab for RRP testing, and were randomized to the intervention group (result given to providers and parents) or control group (result not given, routine clinical care). Families were interviewed on enrollment, 1 and 10 days later. The primary outcome was antibiotic use. Secondary outcomes included antiviral use, hospitalization and recurrent medical visits. Intention to treat (ITT) (assigned group) and pragmatic (provider knows test results) analyses were conducted using SAS v 9.4. Pragmatic analyses were adjusted using multivariable Poisson regression.ResultsAmong 920 visits (890 children) with ILI, 795 (85%) were RRP positive. Sociodemographic characteristics between groups were similar; 37% of children in the intervention group were discharged before results were available and 12% of children in the control group underwent clinical testing. The median age was 2.1 yrs (IQR 0.88–5.6); 35% had high-risk comorbidities. In the ITT intervention group, children were more likely to receive antibiotics (RR 1.3, 95% CI 1.0–1.7) (Table 1). In adjusted pragmatic analyses, children with known results were more likely to receive antivirals (RR 2.6 95% CI 1.5–4.3) and be hospitalized (RR 2.0, 95% CI 1.5–2.7); antibiotic use was not significant (Table 2). Compared with the conventional VSG, the proposed CSG achieves 67% faster turn on time and 50% faster turn off time, and 68% reduction in switching loss at full-load condition.

Simulating the urban growth of a predominantly informal Ghanaian city-region with a cellular automata model: Implications for urban planning and policy

This paper explores two main objectives: first, simulates the urban growth of a Ghanaian city-region with a CA model, drawing implications for urban planning and policy; and, second, explores the sensitivity of CA models to predominantly informal and un-regulated urban growth trajectories. CA model, SLEUTH, is calibrated for Accra city-region, and the results are triangulated with, knowledge from key local stakeholders, and findings from existing studies. The study finds that, compared with cases around the world, urban expansion in Accra city-region is highly spontaneous, rapid and unguided; and new developments fast turn into urban growth nuclei. These have reflected in a sharp rise of the city-region's land under built-up from less than 4 percent in 1990 to about 15 percent in 2015, and it is further simulated to reach around 33 percent by 2040, posing serious challenges to urban management, and threats to sustainable development. The Ghanaian planning system faces the option of swiftly addressing emerging unguided developments or wait and be confronted with a more daunting challenge of managing multiple informal growth nuclei. We also find that the applied CA model is sensitive to the highly informal urban growth trajectory of the city-region. Going forward, it is imperative for policy makers to build a more proactive, stronger and functional planning system; treat every single informal development as a potential threat to urban sustainability; and target pressure areas of expansion. The model's sensitivity to the growth trajectory of Accra city-region suggests that CA models could function as decision support tools even in overwhelmingly informal and less regulated contexts like Ghana.

Development of C-Means Clustering Based Adaptive Fuzzy Controller for a Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle

Abstract Advanced and accurate modelling of a Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle (FW MAV) and its control is one of the recent research topics related to the field of autonomous MAVs. Some desiring features of the FW MAV are quick flight, vertical take-off and landing, hovering, and fast turn, and enhanced manoeuvrability contrasted with similar-sized fixed and rotary wing MAVs. Inspired by the FW MAV’s advanced features, a four-wing Nature-inspired (NI) FW MAV is modelled and controlled in this work. The Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm is utilized to construct the data-driven NIFW MAV model. Being model free, it does not depend on the system dynamics and can incorporate various uncertainties like sensor error, wind gust etc. Furthermore, a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy structure based adaptive fuzzy controller is proposed. The proposed adaptive controller can tune its antecedent and consequent parameters using FCM clustering technique. This controller is employed to control the altitude of the NIFW MAV, and compared with a standalone Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller, and a Sliding Mode Control (SMC) theory based advanced controller. Parameter adaptation of the proposed controller helps to outperform it static PID counterpart. Performance of our controller is also comparable with its advanced and complex counterpart namely SMC-Fuzzy controller.

We used particle image velocimetry in combination with high-speed filming to link aerodynamics and kinematics to understand the mechanistic basis of manoeuvres. We predicted that the bats would primarily use the downstroke to generate the asymmetries for the manoeuvre since it has been shown previously that the majority of forces are generated during this phase of the wingbeat. We found instead that the bats more often used the upstroke than they used the downstroke for this. We also found that the bats used both drag/thrust-based and lift-based asymmetries to perform the manoeuvre and that they even frequently switch between these within the course of a manoeuvre. We conclude that the bats used three main modes: lift asymmetries during downstroke, thrust/drag asymmetries during downstroke and thrust/drag asymmetries during upstroke. For future studies, we hypothesize that lift asymmetries are used for fast turns and thrust/drag for slow turns and that the choice between up- and downstroke depends on the timing of when the bat needs to generate asymmetries.

In addition, both highly luminescent optical property of CH3NH3PbBr3 and efficient photochromic reactivity of spironaphthoxazine, enabled high emission on/off emission contrast (>10.0) and fast emission turn on (4.0s). Finally, modulation of the switching speed is successfully achieved by introducing the chelating agent into the photochrmic film, which effectively retards the rate of photochromic reaction of spironaphthoxazine.

Various NDT with respect to their principle and applications such as impact test, electronic nose, time-resolved reflectance spectrometry (TSR), near infrared spectroscopy (NIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-Ray, ultra sonic, acoustic impulse response method, electrical conductivity methods etc., are discussed in this review.

Flies, for example, turn with the direction of large-field rotatory motion, an optomotor reflex that is thought to help them fly straight [3-5]. Occasionally, however, they execute fast turns, called body saccades, either spontaneously or in response to patterns of visual motion such as expansion [6-8]. These turns can be measured in tethered flying Drosophila [3, 4, 9], which facilitates the study of underlying neural mechanisms. Whereas there is evidence for an efference copy input to visual interneurons during saccades [10], the circuits that control spontaneous and visually elicited saccades are not well known. Using two-photon calcium imaging and electrophysiological recordings in tethered flying Drosophila, we have identified a descending neuron whose activity is correlated with both spontaneous and visually elicited turns during tethered flight. The cell's activity in open- and closed-loop experiments suggests that it does not underlie slower compensatory responses to horizontal motion but rather controls rapid changes in flight path. The activity of this neuron can explain some of the behavioral variability observed in response to visual motion and appears sufficient for eliciting turns when artificially activated. This work provides an entry point into studying the circuits underlying the control of rapid steering maneuvers in the fly brain.

The hybrid approach presented here combines the strengths of feature based and grid based methods to produce globally consistent high resolution maps within various types of environments.The proposed R-SLAM algorithm improves the pose estimation by positioning some of the particles relative to the features existing in the environment. So instead of assuming unimodal Gaussian distribution of particles, as it is in GMapping method, R-SLAM handles the odometry errors better without increasing the number of particles. R-SLAM approach does not necessitate any pre-defined landmarks, yet makes use of them whenever they exist in the environment. Restricted use of the features keeps the computational complexity suitable for real time applications in large scaled environments.A four wheeled, differential drive mobile robot platform and ROS framework have been used to implement and test the proposed method.
