Women Entrepreneurship in Organic Agriculture: The Case of Türkiye

Organic agriculture, whose importance is increasing day by day, is a form of production that prohibits the use of harmful substances in agricultural production and prioritizes soil health in order to protect human health and the ecological system. As in every subject, entrepreneurs are needed for the development of the sector in organic agriculture. In this context, while women entrepreneurs contribute to the production process on the one hand, on the other hand, they gain social and economic self-sufficiency. The aim of this research is to determine the entrepreneurial levels of women engaged in entrepreneurial activities in organic agriculture. In the research, the survey technique was used within the scope of the quantitative research method. The population of the research consists of women entrepreneurs engaged in organic agriculture activities in different regions and provinces of Türkiye. 532 women entrepreneurs selected by judgmental sampling method were determined as the sample of the research. According to the results of the research, it was determined that there was a significant difference in general agricultural entrepreneurship levels in terms of education level and marital status, but not in terms of age, geographical region, and industry experience, while there was a significant difference in organic agriculture entrepreneurship levels s in terms of age and education level, but not in terms of marital status, geographical region, and industry experience. In conclusion, this research is valuable in terms of revealing the current situation of women entrepreneurship in organic agriculture, which is an extremely important sector.

A Evaluation of AI-Driven Learning Strategies and Business Innovation for SDG Dissemination in Meta Colombia

The problem encountered is the deficient knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 agenda in Mesetas and Lejanías, in Meta, Colombia. The problem was solved by sharing at the local level a learning strategy with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies for sustainable innovation with the participation of undergraduate students levels 10 and 11, small business agricultural entrepreneurs and rural producers from the localities of study, useful for the dissemination of the SDGs in the rural sector of the Ariari in Colombia using as a model a successful sustainable business that obtained inherent results to the evaluation of the effectiveness of techniques for the dissemination of knowledge, attitudes and practices as well as metacognitive strategies and AI at the local level useful for the dissemination of the SDGs in Meta Colombia. The data obtained in the research imply effective support strategies for self-assessment and practice for consolidation of learning about the SDG for rural communities using AI. The findings show that AI-powered systems increase learner motivation, engagement, and knowledge retention while providing scalable solutions for various educational scenarios. Limitations include the scope of the implementation and the necessity for additional quantitative study. The paper continues by identifying areas for further research and practical implementation tactics and establishing significant contribution from AI in rural education about the SDGs.

The Role of Social Media on Customer Relationship Management and Business Resilience among Agriculture Entrepreneurs

This paper investigates the intricate interplay between Customer Relationship Management (CRM) strategies, business resilience (BR), and the moderating influence of social media (SM) platforms within the context of agriculture entrepreneurship. A survey was conducted among 92 respondents who are agricultural entrepreneurs. The data was analysed statistically using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) facilitated by SmartPLS 4 software to estimate the hypothesised model. The findings support the contention that CRM promotes business resilience. However, SM does not significantly lead to business resilience among agriculture micro-entrepreneurs and also did not moderate the relationship between CRM and BR. This means that agriculture micro-entrepreneurs would prefer to do business within their limited circles rather than establishing new channels for bigger impact for their business which can be inferred that they only liaise with whom they know and trust. This study confirms that social media did not influence business resilience of agriculture entrepreneurs. Our findings offer valuable implications for policymakers, industry practitioners, and agriculture entrepreneurs in enhancing their adaptive capacities and the ability to withstand and recover from adversities.

Factors Influencing the Youths’ Interest on Agricultural Entrepreneurship in Nawalparasi District, Nepal

Due to inclement climate and political unrest, there was large scale emigration and the main source of income for the Nepalese people has begun to diminish. To evaluate the effects of elements that affect young people’s interest in starting an agricultural business and to look into the connections between these factors and that desire was the main goal. The study was carried out by using a descriptive survey research design, with 100 young people from the Nawalparasi District, as respondents. Everyone who responded, agreed that acceptance, attitude, and knowledge were the things that motivated young people to start their own agriculture businesses. Attitudes and acceptances greatly influenced the interest of young individuals in agricultural entrepreneurship. The influence of education on young people’s enthusiasm towards starting their own businesses was insignificant, according to the study.

Social Entrepreneurship and Agricultural Transformation in Malaysia

Social entrepreneurship in agriculture has emerged as a critical strategy to address Malaysia's challenges of food security, sustainability, and rural development. This study explores how social enterprises, such as Poptani Asian, are leveraging technology to promote sustainable farming practices, enhance agricultural productivity, and improve the livelihoods of rural communities. By empowering farmers with innovative tools and resources, these enterprises are contributing to local food production and reducing reliance on imports. The research highlights the significant role of social entrepreneurship in driving Malaysia's agricultural transformation and the challenges faced in achieving widespread impact. The study also discusses the potential for collaboration between the government, private sector, and consumers to overcome barriers and create a sustainable and resilient agricultural ecosystem in Malaysia.

Assessing business management factors in young agricultural entrepreneurs in Indonesia

Indonesia faces a pressing challenge in its agricultural sector: the declining participation of young workers due to limited entrepreneurial opportunities and inadequate business management skills. This study investigates the factors influencing business management among young agricultural entrepreneurs participating in the growth of young agricultural entrepreneurs (PWMP) program at Politeknik Pembangunan Pertanian (Polbangtan) Medan, Indonesia. Utilizing a descriptive quantitative approach, data were gathered through questionnaires and analyzed using Likert scale measurements and multiple linear regression tests. The findings highlight that business management capabilities were categorized as high (79.68%), supported by strong personality traits (84.30%), high knowledge levels (83.05%), extensive experience (81.13%), a supportive family environment (75.80%), and a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem (79.78%). Regression analysis revealed that personality, experience, family environment, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem significantly impacted business management capabilities, while knowledge had no notable effect. These results underscore the importance of structured interventions, such as internships and business incubation programs, to enhance practical business skills and foster entrepreneurial success.

Strategic analysis of Bayburt in terms of organic agriculture

Purpose: The aim of this study is to make a strategic analysis of Bayburt province, which has an important potential in terms of organic agriculture, in terms of organic agriculture and to develop strategies for the sector. Design/Methodology/Approach: In the study, SWOT analysis was conducted with 25 people (engineers, civil servants, agricultural technicians, farmers and academicians) using the interview technique within the scope of qualitative research method. All SWOT analysis data obtained were subjected to content analysis and summarized into a single SWOT matrix, and strategies were developed based on the situation matrix and expert opinion. Findings: In the study, a total of 12 strategies were developed, three for each SWOT analysis component. Some of these strategies are; conducting studies to recognize the value of organic agriculture by protecting the natural structure of the region, encouraging organic agriculture entrepreneurship and management in the region and ensuring the participation of young entrepreneurs in the sector, ensuring the establishment of cooperatives and unions operating in organic agriculture in the region, and developing policies to unify fragmented lands. Originality/Value: This study is valuable in that the strategies developed in this research can guide provincial agriculture and forestry directorates, agricultural enterprises, managers and researchers in the strategic management of organic agriculture.

Women’s Network Resource Acquisition in Informal Rural Entrepreneurship: A Developed View of Opportunity versus Necessity Dichotomy

This study explores the inherent interdependencies between microfinance social enterprises and two groups of women informal farm entrepreneurs and women informal tourism entrepreneurs in four impoverished rural regions in Iran. Using a qualitative constructivist grounded theory methodology, the findings suggest that women tourism entrepreneurs tend to engage in a greater coexistence of weak vertical and horizontal ties. In contrast, women farm entrepreneurs primarily develop strong horizontal ties. Consequently, members of the tourism group have greater opportunities to access a diverse range of resources, placing them in a more advantageous position along the opportunity–necessity entrepreneurship continuum. Guided by a network approach combined with strong structuration theory, this study develops a theoretical model that illustrates how these two groups of women entrepreneurs differently cope with gender constraints to grow their informal businesses. The findings highlight the need for tailored strategies and policies to empower various groups of subsistence women entrepreneurs.

Integrating Management and Marketing Strategies in Organic Farming: A Topic Modeling Analysis of Sustainable Development and Entrepreneurship

Integrating management and marketing with organic farming practices is crucial for the sustainable development of this growing sector. As organic farming products are popular among health-conscious consumers, agricultural entrepreneurs increasingly use innovative business strategies to meet the rising demand. The successful alignment of business and economic principles with organic agriculture enhances value creation and promotes long- term sustainability. Entrepreneurs must focus on strategic networking across production, processing, and marketing to capitalize on these opportunities fully. Despite its growth, the organic agriculture sector still faces challenges that require comprehensive research to develop effective strategies for advancing the industry. This study addresses the intersection of organic agriculture, entrepreneurship, and business strategy by utilizing topic modeling techniques to analyze bibliographic data from 4327 articles published between 1946 and 2023 in the Scopus database. Using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling, five key themes were identified: (1) Soil for organic agriculture, (2) Environment and organic agriculture, (3) Agriculture business, (4) Organic production, and (5) The use of organic substances. With a connection value of 0.419, the topic modeling effectively grouped relevant themes, offering valuable insights into the role of management and marketing in organic farming. These findings provide a solid foundation for future research and innovation, enabling entrepreneurs, researchers, and farmers to align their practices with evolving market trends better, thus fostering the continued growth of organic agriculture.

Enhancing Agricultural TVET through Technology and Industry Synergy: Next-Generation Workforce Development in Penang

Penang has seen an increasing focus on transforming its agricultural sector to align with modern technological advancements and sustainability goals. This transformation is critical as Penang seeks to reduce its dependence on other states for food and to create a sustainable local food system. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offers a unique platform to prepare a skilled workforce capable of supporting agricultural innovation. This study aims to critically assess and advance the integration of agricultural content within TVET programs in Penang. Given agriculture's essential role in regional food security and economic sustainability, there exists a significant misalignment between current TVET curriculum and the sector’s evolving needs. Employing a qualitative research approach, including in-depth interviews with TVET educators, industry practitioners, government officials, students, and agricultural entrepreneurs, this study elucidates key challenges and opportunities in embedding contemporary agricultural practices into TVET programs. Findings reveal substantial gaps in curriculum relevance, industry engagement, and technological integration. The study proposes targeted reforms, such as curriculum modernization to include advanced farming techniques, sustainable practices, and technological innovations. Recommendations include fostering robust industry-education partnerships, enhancing public perceptions of agricultural careers through strategic awareness campaigns, implementing targeted financial and non-financial incentives, and investing in advanced technological infrastructure. The study also emphasizes the necessity of supportive policy frameworks and continuous program evaluation to ensure alignment with sectoral demands. This research provides a comprehensive framework for stakeholders to enhance TVET programs, thereby equipping graduates with the requisite skills for the evolving agricultural sector in Penang.

Economic and Social Impact of Female Home-Makers: A Case Study of the Women Farmers' Organization in the Western Province, Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, 34.5% of the females participate in the labour force. One of the projects launched by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2016, was the establishment of ‘Sithamu’ (Let’s think) the women farmers’ organizations to boost rural development with female participation in agriculture. The purpose of this paper is to explore the Economic and Social impacts of such organizations on the Female Home-Makers; based on Bourdieu’s theory of capital (1986). It was conducted as a case study on a woman farmers’ organization (WFO) in the Western Province selected through convenience sampling. The informants of the study were eight members of the organization. This study included a background information questionnaire, a semi-structured interview schedule, observational field notes and document analysis. The thematic analysis of data revealed that the WFO contributed to the development of their social inter-connections, relevant government officials, resource persons, local agricultural entrepreneurs and other agencies related to agriculture. This paves the way for the development of members’ social capital through developing mutual trust, networks, sharing of information and collective decision making amongst them. The social capital has an impact on alleviating poverty through opportunities for self-employment and development of their entrepreneurial skills, their living standards, their capabilities…etc. Being members of the WFO gave them many opportunities to engage in both non-formal and informal learning. The sources of non-formal learning included instructional sessions, field visits, demonstrations and training sessions organized by the local Agrarian Service Centre. Field visits, meetings and informal interactions among the members provided them the informal learning. They helped members to develop social, cultural and economic capital in various ways. It is recommended to empower women farmers by providing them with more access to government-provided training, funding and social recognition as farmers and also to benefit them with these types of organizations and learning opportunities.

YOUNG FARMERS, SMALL FARMS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP UNDER THE NEW EUROPEAN UNION GREEN DEAL

The European Union in recent years has adopted and implemented a new policy, the European Green Deal, which aspires to be a comprehensive plan to make the EU economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities. At the core of this strategy, is agriculture, as it both contributes to and is affected by climate change. This paper investigates the opportunities and challenges facing young farmers, small farms, and agricultural entrepreneurship under the framework of the Green Deal. Especially, it explores how the Green Deal's goals of climate neutrality, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable food systems impact young farmers, small farms and agricultural entrepreneurship, while identifying ways in which they can align their practices with this new policy framework. The paper concludes with policy recommendations to support young farmers and small-scale agricultural entrepreneurs in achieving sustainability while enhancing their economic viability.

The article is devoted to the study of financial and credit instruments for supporting agribusiness under martial law. The structure of monetary instruments and proposed approaches to its systematization are considered. The role of bank credit in the development of small agricultural entrepreneurship is substantiated. The criteria for determining the credit needs of agricultural production entities are formulated. The financial leasing schemes in the production activities of agricultural enterprises are considered and compared with alternative methods of acquiring fixed assets. The main directions for increasing the dynamics of agricultural production during leasing operations are formulated. The relationship between the form and content of a bill of exchange is substantiated. Methods for improving bill legislation are proposed.

Frontline to farm: Sustainable farming training for military veterans and beginning farmers

New farmers are needed in agriculture in the U.S. to assure the sustainability of our food, including small- and mid-scale farmers. At the same time, military veterans need career opportunities as they transition back to civilian life. Many want to reconnect to community and the land. Training in sustainable agriculture and access to resources are needed for beginning farmers. Frontline to Farm is a new program at Appalachian State University in western N.C. to train military veterans in farming. We use a national/regional/community approach with on-line modules, as well as in-person training options. Specifically, 1) We have developed educational materials on-line with partners, the University of Arkansas and also the National Center for Appropriate Technology. These materials focus on sustainable farming, poultry, livestock, and pasture, as well as farm entrepreneurship and legal issues. 2) We also provide scholarships for veterans to attend sustainable agriculture conferences and training in the Southeast region. The University of Missouri offers training each summer on agroforestry, a regenerative agriculture practice that sequesters carbon while building soil fertility. 3) We provide intensive in-person trainings in our community in Southern Appalachia. We work closely with cooperative extension, USDA agencies, and local farmers for trainings. Several farmer veterans host customized internships at their farms to provide immersive experiences. 4) We provide our alumni with on-going consulting opportunities. We work with local farmer veteran mentors as consultants. Many farmers learn well in farmer-to-farmer settings. We leverage strengths in our community and work with local partners including Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture. We also work with local groups that support veterans, including Farmer Veteran Coalition and NC AgrAbility. Results in our first 3 years indicate that we have reached over 60,000 farmers electronically and over 220 in-person. Our project provides pathways to success (environmental, social, and economic) for new farmers. Sustainable agriculture protects environmental resources, increases equity for military veterans and beginning farmers, and builds resilience in local and regional food systems.

The impact of mobile financial services on farmer entrepreneurship in rural China

ABSTRACT The innovation of mobile financial services (MFS) is a crucial tool in the field of information and communications technology for development (ICT4D). This study investigates the impact of MFS on farmer entrepreneurship in rural China. The findings indicate that MFS adoption has a significantly positive effect on farmer entrepreneurship. However, these effects vary among farmers with different income levels. High-income farmers are most impacted by MFS adoption in terms of entrepreneurial revenue, whereas low-income farmers are most affected by MFS adoption in terms of entrepreneurial engagement and willingness. A significant and positive effect of MFS adoption on entrepreneurial profits is observed for high-income farmers, whereas the effect is insignificant for medium-income farmers. The findings suggest that researchers and policy-makers should pay greater attention to the heterogeneous effects of technology empowerment on rural development.

Revitalizing Agricultural Economy Through Rural E-Commerce? Experience from China’s Revolutionary Old Areas

Many of the world’s less developed regions may not be able to improve the well-being of rural residents through agricultural revitalization because of their remoteness from agricultural markets. Using the county-level data set of China’s underdeveloped old revolutionary base areas from 2010 to 2021, this paper takes the policy planning of rural e-commerce as event intervention to investigate the driving role of the digital product market on agricultural economic development. Empirical results show that rural e-commerce planning policy has significantly promoted the agricultural added value of the pilot counties, and the digital market is the key driving factor of the agricultural economic growth in these underdeveloped areas. Both food production and livestock output have increased significantly as a result of e-commerce policies. Considering the potential bias of the bidirectional fixed effect estimators of staggered differences-in-differences (DID), this study uses heterogeneous robust estimators to verify the growth effect of the agricultural economy. Specifically, digital agricultural markets have significantly promoted agricultural mechanization and significantly improved agricultural total factor productivity. Moreover, empirical evidence does not support transmission mechanisms for off-farm employment and agricultural entrepreneurship. The findings can help less developed countries and regions develop policies to expand the agricultural markets with digital dividends, thereby promoting the development of the agricultural economy.

Analysing Knowledge Gain in Women Farmers: Insights from Tuber Crop Cultivation Training

Aims: This study aimed to assess the knowledge gain of women farmers participating in a training program on tuber crop cultivation in Thrissur district, Kerala. The training focused on improving their understanding of key agricultural practices related to crops such as cassava, elephant foot yam, coleus, and sweet potatoes. Study Design: Ex post facto design. Place and Duration of Study: The training was organized and conducted by the Center for Gender Studies in Agriculture and Farm Entrepreneurship Development, College of Agriculture, Vellanikkara, Thrissur, Kerala on March 2024. Methodology: A total of 50 women farmers were randomly selected from various panchayats in the Thrissur district to attend the training. A pre- and post-training evaluation was conducted using a structured questionnaire comprising 15 questions, covering topics such as variety selection, soil fertility management, pest and disease control, and post-harvest value addition, and so on. Using grapesAgri1 in R Studio 4.3.1 software, the data were analysed using statistical methods like frequency, percentage, t-test and coefficient of correlation. Results: Pre- and post-training knowledge scores were calculated and analysed using simple percentage formulas to assess knowledge gain. The study revealed a significant improvement in participants' knowledge post-training. The overall average pre-training knowledge score was 9.67 out of 50 (19.34%), while the average post-training score increased to 41.53 out of 50 (83.06%). T-test was also employed to compare the mean of pre-test and post-test evaluation. The percentage of knowledge gain in the pre-training and post-training evaluation were correlated with the independent variables such as age, education, family size, category and information source utilization. The results of correlation revealed that the independent variable such as age (X1), Education (X2), Category (X3) and farm size (X4) are negatively correlated and information source (X5) was positively correlated with the dependent variable. Conclusion: The training program effectively enhanced the knowledge of women farmers in key aspects of tuber crop cultivation, contributing to improved agricultural practices and the potential for increased productivity.
