A DIGITAL TOURISM MAP TO GUIDE THE FEATURED TOURIST LOCATIONS IN THE BENDOSARI-PUJON TOURISM VILLAGE

Each tourist village has its own set of attractions; that being said, Bendosari-Pujon Tourism Village offers its own beautiful. This village in Malang Regency provides dairy farming, milk processing, and plantation excursions. Additionally, one of the village famous sites, Grojokan Sewu Waterfall is really popular. Bendosari-Pujon Tourism Village is unique in that it converts cow dung into biogas. However, the wide terrain of Bendosari Village makes tourist sites difficult to reach without a car. This issue significantly lowers visitors' awareness of Bendosari Village's tourist attractions. Rapid technological growth has benefited humanity in numerous ways. Almost every productive-aged person utilizes a smartphone on a regular basis. This could help share information. Based on this rationale, the researchers employed descriptive, qualitative methodologies to find the best option. During data collection, researchers were able to restrict Bendosari Village's advertising needs and expand its tourism attractions thanks to technological advances. The research seek to identify the most effective digital channel for promoting key tourist destinations.

According to the 『Samguk Yusa』, in the biography of Kim Yusin, a man from Goguryeo named Chunam was wrongfully killed by the queen and her associates for violating the principles of yin and yang. After his death, he was reincarnated as the Silla general Kim Yusin to seek revenge. While the story seems unrealistic, the tale of Chunam may be dismissed as mere fantasy. However, records from the Joseon Dynasty, such as 『Geumosinhwa』, 『Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam』, and 『Gwanseo Eupji』, note a famous site in Pyongyang called Chunamhuh, meaning the former site of Chunam’s residence, along with its location. The existence of Chunamhuh as a well-known landmark in the Pyongyang region suggests that Chunam had long been remembered and passed down through generations, implying that people recognized Chunam as a historical figure who once lived in Pyongyang. In the tale of Chunam, just as the queen’s violation of yin and yang caused disorder at the borders of Goguryeo, there was an incident in the mid-6th century during King Yangwon's succession, where the Chugunn faction, which supported the queen and emerged victorious, caused the significant loss of life among the opposing the Segun faction. Interestingly, both the tale of Chunam and King Yangwon’s succession process share the common theme of the queen and her faction disrupting Goguryeo’s political stability. Moreover, the timing of Chunam’s death could not have extended beyond the late 6th century, which aligns closely with King Yangwon’s ascension. In many respects, the political context reflected in the tale of Chunam corresponds with mid-6th century Goguryeo politics, particularly the dominance of the queen's faction. Thus, the tale of Chunam has been utilized as a case study to explore the abuses of power by the queen’s faction in the 6th century, a topic previously raised in research on Goguryeo history.

Marine Environments in Front of the Ancient City of Pompeii (Southern Italy) at 79 CE: New Insights for the Unknown Location of the Harbour

A multidisciplinary study, including geomorphological, stratigraphic, paleontological and archaeological methods and techniques, allowed for a detailed exploration of coastal landforms and environments in front of the ancient city of Pompeii (southern Italy). The famous site of Pompeii sits on a small volcanic hill in the alluvial-coastal plain of the Sarno River, very close to the ancient paleoshoreline. When the Roman city was buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE, pyroclastic fall and flow deposits covered the urban centres and ancient coastal landforms. In this study, 83 new boreholes were carried out up to a depth of 10 m. Some of them (15) were analysed for their sedimentological, stratigraphical and paleontological characterisation, in order to reconstruct the sedimentary environments in 79 CE. The data collected allow for new hypotheses to be formulated regarding the paleoshorelines, as well as the 79 CE coastal landforms and environments. In particular, litho-stratigraphic and fossil assemblages highlight the presence of shallow marine environments in a large back-ridge depression, named Masseria Curati, that is located just outside the city walls. This hypothesis opens new insights on the unknown location of the harbour of the Roman city.

A guided tour through the qualitative research city

AbstractThis article argues for the expansion of qualitative research approaches in supply chain management (SCM). By comparing mainstream qualitative approaches to popular Parisian landmarks, it argues that just as tourists can miss the city's essence by visiting only famous sites, SCM researchers limit their understanding by relying solely on conventional approaches. It emphasizes that, much like exploring lesser‐known parts of a city, incorporating diverse qualitative approaches can enrich SCM research. Highlighting the dominance of realist and positivist approaches, the article calls for greater inclusion of nominalist and anti‐positivist approaches. It introduces different “buildings” of qualitative research (grounded theory, interpretive research, sensemaking, sociomateriality, actor–network theory, ethnography, action research, discourse analysis, narrative research, and historical research), each offering unique insights into SCM. The article argues that embracing these diverse approaches can lead to a deeper understanding of complex global supply chain phenomena and encourage innovative theoretical development, thereby broadening the scope and impact of the discipline.

Crime, conflict, and commodities: Peruvian piracy and the natural resource curse

ABSTRACT Over the last two decades, Peru has become a global piracy hotspot, eliciting surprise and concern among the international maritime community. Despite increased attention, Peru remains underexamined in maritime piracy research. In this case-study analysis, we brought together two research fields (e.g. maritime piracy and the natural resource curse) to investigate socio-historical factors that accounted for long-term trends in Peruvian piracy. The maritime piracy literature, which largely examines famous sites off the coasts of Africa and southern Asia, identifies several determinants, including state weakness, economic opportunity, and geography. Because Peru is a heavily extraction-dependent state, we also examined mechanisms of the natural resource curse. Considerable overlap in explanatory factors exist. While we found several determinants identified in the maritime piracy literature present in the Peru case, such as state weakness and social conflict, analyses also indicated that mechanisms of the natural resource curse, particularly commodity price volatility and rent seeking, are also positively related to piratical activity. Overall, our findings extend the maritime piracy and natural resource curse literatures and suggest that counter-piracy efforts in Peru critically examine extractive policies for latent effects.

The collection of archaeological artifacts from the Upper Paleolithic site of Sungir, stored in the State Vladimir and Suzdal Museum: the history of acquisition and scientific study

The article is an analytical review of a museum collection of archaeological materials from the excavations of the Sungir site, which is one of the most famous sites of the Upper Paleolithic. The collection is stored in the State Vladimir and Suzdal Museum and is one of the most important parts of the museum funds. It’s distinguished by a high degree of study and is actively used in the main areas of the museum activity. The history of replenishment and the structure of the collection correspond to the dynamics of changes in the understanding of the site place in the Upper Paleolithic of the Russian Plain. The objects of the collection have long remained in the focus of attention of researchers, and they still retain the prospect of further study. The materials of the collection are mainly represented by stone tools, items made of bone and horn and by a set of inventory from burials. Since mostly only few artifacts from burials and anthropological materials were of interest to the scientific community, the scientific processing of the collection is carried out unevenly. The article describes the main categories of funeral inventory and gives overview of the current state of the collection. From a museum point of view, the collection fully complies with all regulatory requirements for the accounting and storage of items. The materials of the Sungir site have not only purely scientific, but also public significance, which allows them to be used in permanent exhibitions and other museum projects. A detailed analysis of the collection from the point of museum specifics makes it possible to simplify the work of archaeologists-researchers and emphasize its potential for further study.

World Heritage Sites and the question of scale in governance and politics: A study of Stonehenge

AbstractIn July 2021, Liverpool was removed from the prestigious List of World Heritage Sites, sending shockwaves around the global heritage community. More recently, the spotlight has shifted to another world famous site also located in the United Kingdom. During the same 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee, UNESCO threatened to place Stonehenge on the List in Danger if the required changes to a significant billion-pound road enhancement project were not implemented. Given what happened in Liverpool, there are fears that Stonehenge is in danger of moving towards delisting. An interesting critical line of inquiry to emerge from Liverpool, and other World Heritage Sites, concerns the local, national, and international ‘politics at the site’. This article develops this debate by analysing the role of different scalar actors involved in the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. More specifically, our article examines how the Stonehenge Alliance sought to engage in, what we define as, scalar manoeuvres that is evidenced by scale jumping and scalar alignments with more powerful players further up the heritage hierarchy in order to effect leverage over the future status of the World Heritage Site.

Domestic donkey (Equus asinus asinus) at Gonur Depe and its distribution in the Ancient East

The domestic donkey (Equus asinus asinus) is a hardy, versatile working animal. This species still plays an important role in the traditional economy of the peoples of Central Asia and adjacent regions. At the same time, very little is known about the ways in which this domestic species appeared in the region and the nature of its use in the early historical epochs. The morphological features of ancient donkeys are also poorly studied. It is as-sumed that donkeys appear in the Middle East in the 4th millennium BC. Zooarchaeological data shows that the ancient population of Turkmenistan did not breed the donkey until the Late Bronze Age. Equid bones found at Chalcolithic, Early and Middle Bronze Age sites belong to the onager (Equus hemionus). Donkey bones first ap-peared in the materials from the excavations of the sites of the Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Culture (BMAC). One of the most famous site of BMAC is Gonur Depe, the administrative and ceremonial center of ancient Margi-ana. It is located in the ancient delta of the Murghab River. Gonur Depe dates from 2500 till 1500 BC. The protourban center includes two main sites — North and South Gonur. During the excavation at Gonur, 142 indi-vidual bones and 9 complete skeletons of the domestic donkey were found. Perhaps the isolated donkey bones fell into the trash layers during the destruction of the ritual objects. No traces of purposeful slaughter of these animals and consumption of their meat were found. The donkey skeletons were found inside the human burials or in associated structures, although there are independent burials of these animals as well. So, for example, at the area 8, the donkey, surrounded by ceramic vessels was placed in a tomb made of adobe bricks. In the burials 3200 and 3900, the skeletons of donkeys were found alongside the skeletons of double-humped camels and re-mains of four-wheeled wagons. In total, 4 burials with carts were found at Gonur, where the skeletons of camels are always present, whereas only in two of them — the skeletons of donkeys. It is possible that the bulls and camels were main draft animals of the Gonur people, while the donkeys mainly played the role of a pack and rid-ing animals. The height at the withers of the Gonur donkeys, reconstructed on the basis of measurements of the complete skeletons, was 115–120 cms. These were animals of average size for their species.

Geodiversity of Kingdom of Morocco: Tata Province geomorphosites inventory for creating a geopark project (Anti-Atlas)

The geodiversity of the Kingdom of Morocco being very varied and known, remains entirely unexplored despite the efforts made by specialists to encourage its recognition. The famous sites represent only a tiny part of its true geological heritage, compared to its long geological and geomorphological history. We present different aspects of the geodiversity of Morocco kingdom, recalling the previous works in this direction and then, we focus on Tata Province, western part of the Anti Atlas, in through largely unknown examples. A preliminary and quantitative inventory of geomorphosites is presented to identify 46 sites. They are tectonic, fluvial, climatic etc. Such a heritage encourages the local government to take the initiative of creating a geopark project on this territory called Tata Geopark, in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.

First Records of Bats (Mammalia: Chiroptera) from the World’s Largest Cave in Vietnam

Located within the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Central Vietnam, Son Doong Cave is the world’s largest cave and has become one of the most famous sites for caving tourists and scientists worldwide. It contains highly diverse landscapes and ecosystems with special value in many natural aspects including biodiversity. Bat species are usually regarded as key and fascinating dwellers in cave ecosystems. We recently conducted a bat survey in Son Doong Cave in May 2022 for an initial understanding of the bat species inhabiting this special cave. Bats were captured using mist nets. Echolocation calls were recorded and analyzed using the PCTape system and Batman and Selena software, respectively. Results from the survey confirmed that Son Doong Cave is a home for at least six echolocating bat species of five genera and four families: Hipposideridae (Aselliscus stoliczkanus, Hipposideros scutinares), Rhinolophidae (Rhinolophus thomasi), Molossidae (Mops plicatus) and Vespertilionidae (Myotis pilosus and Myotis cf. muricola). Of these five species, H. scutinares and M. pilosus are listed as globally “vulnerable” by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Among the six captured and recorded species from the Son Doong Cave, each species is clearly distinguishable from the others in terms of morphological features, echolocation call structure and frequencies.

ЛАДЕЙКИ: ЗАБЫТЫЕ ПАМЯТНИКИ ПАЛЕОЛИТА КРАСНОЯРСКА

Ladeyki is the first famous Paleolithic site in the Enisiey valley (nowadays it is Kamenny Kvartal district in Kras- noyarsk) that was discovered by Savenkov I.T. in summer 1884, some days before the artifacts from Afontova Gora had been found. Later on, collection in blowouts on the outskirts of Ladeyki village were carried on by Elenev A. S., Ermolaev A. P., Merhart G., Sosnovski G. P. The analysis of archival and literary sources of the late XIX — early XX century allows us to trace in detail the history of the study of the site. The funds of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local Lore contain a small collection of Paleolithic (?) items from Ladeyki site, which includes a pebble tool, fragments of a points on a large blade with retouched, fragments of small side-scrapers, large-sized chisel-like tools with their distinctive characteristic of so-called "dull lustre". It is known that the fauna fossils which are attributed to the Paleolithic included the bones of a reindeer, a mammoth and a bison. According to researches of the first part of XIX century (Merhart G., Gromov V. I., Sosnovskiy G. P.), the site, that was destroyed and partly redeposited in the blowouts, could be attributed ti the end of the Late Paleolithic as well as Pereselencheskiy Punkt. Cultural affiliation of Ladeyki is still discussed. Nowadays Ladeyki is better known as the site of the early Iron Age and the early Middle Ages (Ladeyskoe settlement, site Ladeyskaia-2). Exploration survey carried out in 2012 on the territory of the Kamenny Kvartal did not help to reveal traces of the Late Paleolithic site.

Experimental study on capillary water absorption of sandstones from different grotto heritage sites in China

Sandstone grottoes, with their elaborate carvings and decorations, hold high historic, artistic and scientific values and therefore constitute an important part of China’s stone cultural heritage. Although capillary water accounts for severe pathologies at the grottoes, so far there have been limited comprehensive investigations concerned with the capillary water absorption behavior of sandstones. Aiming at three significant and famous sites in China, i.e., Yungang Grottoes (YG), Dazu Rock Carvings (DZ) and Leshan Grand Buddha (LS), capillary water absorption tests were performed on samples from local sandstones. During the test, evolution of cumulative inflow was measured and variation in the height of capillary rise over time was also monitored by combining visual observation and infrared thermography. Scanning electron microscope and mercury intrusion porosimetry were adopted to characterize the pore structure. The results indicate that all the tested sandstones had a medium capacity of water uptake. Kinetics for capillary water absorption was the highest for LS sandstone and the lowest for DZ sandstone. Differences in macroscopic properties were contributed to microstructural features such as average pore diameter and pore size distribution. An irregular shaped water front was only observed in LS sandstone due to its heterogeneity. Infrared thermography provides an efficient and nondestructive way to detect the transition zone between wet and dry portions of the sample, which was not visible to the naked eyes. A proper understanding of the interaction of the sandstones with capillary water is essential for revealing the deterioration of grottoes and the underlying mechanisms.

The archives of Mikhail Petrovich Gryaznov are a remarkable source of information which concerns not only scientific problems and their solution but, to a large extent, also human interrelations. The expansive scientific and friendly relations of M.P. Gryaznov with persons of the same age, as well as his senior and younger colleagues, resulted in the appearance of a huge corpus of the epistolary heritage of the scholar which is fortunately preserved at the scientific archives of the Institute of the History of Material Culture, RAS. Among hundreds of letters to M.P. Gryaznov, some messages by Elga Borisovna Vadetskaya are preserved. For the publication, two letters were selected of the early summer of 1969 written in the expedition when Vadetskaya was already conducting field surveys while Gryaznov seemed to have remained in Leningrad and was just preparing for the trip. In my opinion, these letters describe the situation of the everyday life of the participants of the Krasnoyarsk expedition and vividly characterize Elga Borisovna herself as an independent, ambitious and devoted to science young researcher who studied the antiquities of Southern Siberia. Of particular interest is the subject touched in the second letter and concerned with the history of the resumption of the excavations of the famous burial site of Oglakhty

GENDERED DIVISION IN AWARENESS AND PRACTICES REGARDING FACEBOOK PRIVACY MANAGEMENT

The invention of the internet and smartphones have revolutionized the ways people communicate at the personal and professional levels on daily basis. In the past, people were much concerned about their privacy but these days social media presence is important for individuals to stay in touch with their personal and professional contacts. Social networking sites empower their users with different privacy settings. People can keep the stuff they share limited to their friends, specific people, or they can also choose to display it publicly. The present study investigated the gender-wise difference in privacy management on a very famous social networking site, Facebook using a survey response of 400 respondents from all over Pakistan. A simple random sampling technique was employed to collect the data. The present study provides an in-depth analysis of various sections of privacy aspects on Facebook. Results revealed similarities and differences in privacy management practices by male and female users on Facebook. Morphology Detection in Archaeological Ancient Sites by Using UAVs/Drones Data and GIS techniques

Today, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Drones are a valuable source of data on inspection, surveillance, mapping and 3D modelling matters. Drones can be considered as the new alternative of classic manned aerial photography due to their low cost and high spatial resolution. In this study, drones were used to study archaeological sites. The archaeological Nineveh site, which is a very famous site located in heart of the city of Mosul, in northern Iraq, was chosen. This site was the largest capital of the Assyrian Empire 3000 years ago. The site contains an external wall that includes many gates, most of which were destroyed when Daesh occupied the city in 2014. The local population of the city of Mosul has also largely overtaken the central part of this archaeological site, while the northern and southern parts are still uninhabited. The awareness of the existence of unchanged surface and ground forms in the northern or southern parts led us to prepare an urgent study to interpret the outer surface of those parts and to analyze any discovery in the surface morphology. So, drone data and GIS technologies were used in this study to find any discovery that could aid in understanding the original surface of this ancient site. Visual and digital interpretations of satellite images, drone images, and Digital Surface Models (DSMs) were used to analyze and study the data. As a final result, certain morphological features were identified in the southern parts of the ancient site which could be a new archaeological and compositional discovery with reference to the earlier activities of the ancient society during the Assyrian empires, represented by the ditches and building lands used by the ancient inhabitants. Small modern tunnels penetrated the ancient wall were also discovered in addition, to a drainage canal and a motorway newly constructed during the occupation of the city that had penetrated the archaeological land.

Promotion of tourism in Egypt during the reign of King Fuad I

ABSTRACT This paper discusses the role of King Fuad I (r. 1917–1936) role in promoting tourism in Egypt during his reign. Fuad felt that Egypt’s unique geography and history made it an ideal tourist destination even before he ascended to the throne. He promoted tourism in Egypt during his reign by establishing national tourism associations, hosting international conferences, and taking foreign dignitaries on trips to Egypt’s most famous archaeological sites. This paper also discusses and reflects upon Fuad’s organisation of an international competition to promote tourism in Egypt, which is understudied in the literature despite its importance for the history and development of Egyptian tourism. This paper contributes to the literature by examining previously unpublished archival sources and setting a timeline for the Egyptian state’s deep interest in promoting the country as a tourist attraction.

Three-Dimensional Measurement and Three-Dimensional Printing of Giant Coastal Rocks

In recent years, the use of three-dimensional (3D) measurement and printing technologies has become an effective means of analyzing and reproducing both physical and natural objects, regardless of size. However, in some complex environments, such as coastal environments, it is difficult to obtain the required data by conventional measurement methods. In this paper, we describe our efforts to archive and digitally reproduce a giant coastal rock formation known as Sanouiwa, a famous site off the coast of Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. We used two different 3D measurement techniques. The first involved taking pictures using a drone-mounted camera, and the second involved the use of global navigation satellite system data. The point cloud data generated from the high-resolution camera images were integrated using 3D shape reconstruction software, and 3D digital models were created for use in tourism promotion and environmental protection awareness initiatives. Finally, we fabricated the 3D digital models of the rocks with 3D printers for use as museum exhibitions, school curriculum materials, and related applications.

STRATEGI PENGELOLAAN EKOSISTEM TERUMBU KARANG DI DAERAH WISATA AIR TANJUNG BENOA DAN JEMELUK AMED, BALI

Tanjung Benoa and Jemeluk Amed are two famous marine tourism sites in Bali. This study aims to determine the state of coral ecosystem in its life form, factors associated with coral damage, and the strategy to manage coral in those two area. We used two methods: Line Intercept Transect (LIT) and SWOT. The live coral coverage condition in Tanjung Benoa is in moderate and worse category. While the Jemeluk Amed is in moderate level and good condition, respectively. Factors causing damage to coral ecosystem are: the corals are under pressure, some corals are already bleaching, the anchoring activity and oil spill from ships, and algae. The coral reefs ecosystem in Tanjung Benoa and Jemeluk Amed can be sustained in good condition with government support and NGOs in the development of environmentally friendly activities and monitoring studies, implementation of coral reef preservation rules (prohibition of taking coral reefs) and colaboration of the community, government, and NGOs to carry out coral reef rehabilitation and monitoring studies. As one of the tourism area in Bali, the role of universities are needed for continuous research on the state of coral reefs to maintain environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism.Keywords: Coral reef; Life form; Strategy; Marine conservation.

Tourism imaginaries and the selective perception of visitors: Postcolonial heritage in Con Dao Islands, Vietnam

Identifying the reasons why people visit places associated with death and suffering remains a key stake of dark tourism research. Such research, however, remains largely framed by Anglo-American perspectives and assumes visitors largely hail from the West. Less is known about the motivations of dark tourists from developing countries. This paper contributes to the debate by examining the case of tourism in Con Dao Archipelago, Vietnam. Once labeled as a ‘Hell on Earth’, the island is a famous site of both postcolonial and natural heritage, displaying former colonial prisons, prisoners’ cemeteries and memorials. Over the past five years, pilgrimage tours to the tomb of Co Sau, a national hero, in Hang Duong cemetery have increasingly attracted visitors from the Vietnamese mainland. Focusing on both the supply and demand sides of dark tourism, the research uses the theoretical lens of tourism imaginaries and visitors’ selective perception to investigate what attracted people to these tours. Document analysis, ethnographic observation and in-depth interviews with key informants show that a complicated set of factors (tourism commodification, geographic location, culture and beliefs) intersect to influence the emergence and transformation of penal sites’ imaginaries in Con Dao Islands. Despite being presented with three different imaginaries of Con Dao, visitors from Vietnam are engaged in a form of ‘spiritual tourism’ focused on the sacred element of the martyrs’ deaths and suffering, making this their main reason for visiting the island. The popularity of spiritual tours in Con Dao thus underlines the importance of looking at the islands’ heritages beyond Western conceptions of dark and resort tourism.
