This work reports an investigation of thermoluminescence behaviour of UV and gamma rays irradiated europium and samarium activated yttrium oxide (Y2O3) phosphors synthesized by ceramic route. Structural analysis was studied by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and morphological studies were carried out by FESEM and HRTEM of the prepared phosphors. Variation in TL intensity with UV exposure was recorded using TLD reader. The TL thermograms of the synthesized phosphors have dual peak at Tm1-uv = 458 K and Tm2-uv = 690 K due to re-trapping process. Thermoluminescence behaviour of gamma rays irradiated phosphors were also studied. Gamma irradiated phosphors showed most intense peaks at Tm1-gamma = 478 K and Tm2-gamma = 748 K respectively. The prepared phosphors showed linear TL response and good TL sensitivity for Y2O3 phosphors doped with 1.5 mol% of samarium and 1 mol% of europium. The kinetic parameters were calculated by CGCD technique for each UV and gamma irradiated phosphors. The value of activation energy for UV and gamma rays irradiated phosphors were ranging from 1.541 to 2.257 eV and 1.643 to 3.786 eV, respectively. TL decay study concludes that prepared phosphors have low fading characteristics.
