Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare characteristics of funeral culture, funeral law and crematory of Japan, which are most similar to aging society in Korea, and to analyze the characteristics of elaborate facilities such as space composition and movement system, It is expected that this will be used as a basic data to prepare for aging society in the future change of funeral culture of Korea and planning of funeral complex facilities. Method: In this study, we first deduce the future change of the funeral culture and the change pattern of the funeral complex facilities in Korea. In anticipation of the changing patterns of change, we anticipate factors that will serve to prepare for funeral complex facilities in an aging society. Four typical Japanese funeral facilities were selected to examine the status of funeral culture and burial facilities. In order to understand the characteristics of funeral facilities combined with special use spaces, we analyzed the spatial composition characteristics and the movement system of each case in three aspects of fluidity, accessibility, and functionality in each case. Result: Through the analysis of the surveyed contents, suggestions to consider in the planning of the space composition of the funeral complex facility were suggested.

Comparison of Highway Capacity Estimation Methods

The capacity of a freeway segment is a critical factor for planning, design, and operational analysis of freeway facilities. This research aimed to perform a comparison among well-known freeway capacity estimation methods in order to investigate their application, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. Single estimate capacity methods such as the Van Aerde method, and breakdown probability methods, such as the product limit method (PLM), the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) method, and the sustainable flow index (SFI) method, were applied at six merge bottleneck locations in the Kansas City area. The results from all methods were compared and the advantages and the disadvantages of each method were discussed. The HCM results showed a significant variability in the estimated breakdown probability function and the resulting capacities. The HCM method was also found to be sensitive to the breakdown probability ratios as a single breakdown observation can significantly shift the fitted distribution and the corresponding capacity estimate. The PLM model provided the highest capacity estimates, followed by the Van Aerde model capacities. The Van Aerde capacities were also found to be closer to the average pre-breakdown flow rates. Finally, the PLM and the SFI method showed consistent performance in comparison to the remaining methods, and flexibility in being applied on different sites with various characteristics.

Biomass Feedstock and Climate Change in Agroforestry Systems: Participatory Location and Integration Scenario Analysis of Biomass Power Facilities

Producing energy with biomass feedstocks as a renewable energy source can contribute to the mitigation of climate change through direct CO2 sequestration and higher CO2-emitting fuel replacement. Here, the correct location of a biomass power facility can be considered as a critical position due to their geographical and spatial characteristic. This research presents a novel approach involving a geographic information system (GIS) location and its integration scenario analysis with the consideration of biomass feedstocks and climate change in agroforestry systems, the agro-silvo-pastoral system (ASPS), of a Spanish case study. A combined participatory operative approach, that is, fuzzy-decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (F-DEMATEL) with simple additive weighting (SAW) and sensitivity analysis in various disciplines and criteria, is applied by professionals. In particular, an analysis of five biomass power facilities in the area assessed by the methodology found that only one facility (BPF4) is located in the suitable area. Among five integration scenarios (A to E) as the likelihood test by the stakeholders, scenario E (suitability layer) was most supported—that is, it was selected as the most suitability map—while scenario D (general geophysical layer) was least supported, in that the results encapsulated foreseeable problems derived from the effects. Hence, the validation of the methodology proposed can be employed as a decision-making tool to support proper sustainable planning and development of a biomass power facility under the impact of climate change.

A Study on Coordinated Optimization of Electric Vehicle Charging and Charging Pile Selection

This paper was intended to explore the mutual influences between electric vehicle (EV) charging and charging facility planning, to establish a two-stage model for optimizing the EVs’ charging and charging piles’ selection. In the first stage, the distribution pattern of the demands for EV charging, and various EVs were effectively grouped, in order to reduce the amount of computation for solving the second stage model. The goal of the second stage was to minimize the annual investment and electricity purchasing costs on the charging piles, and the coordinated optimization was carried out for EV charging and charging pile selection. The CPLEX and IP_SOLVE packages were used in MATLAB (R2014a/64 bits) to solve the established optimization model. The simulation results showed that, compared with the scheme for selecting the charging pile under the typical charging pattern (TCP), the total cost of the charging pile could be reduced by 6.32% with a scheme under the optimized charging pattern (OCP), thereby promoting the coordinated development of both the EVs and charging facilities.

Using Geographic Information System (GIS) to Develop Health Information System (HIS) for Srinagar City, Jammu and Kashmir

Health Information System (HIS) is a GIS based information system that stores all information about health facilities – their name, location, category, no. of rooms, no. of male doctors, no. of female doctors, total no. of employee, no. of beds, qualification of doctor’s, Geographic coordinates of health Centers, availability of medicine, 24 hours service availability, maternity service, canteen facility etc. HIS allows the preservation of the information value of health Centers digitally and offers new exploitation possibilities, like the immediate connection of different kinds of data for analysis, or the digital documentation of these institutes for its improvement. The purpose of this study was to collect appropriate data of Health Centers around Srinagar city and to store the data into the Geodatabase built to manage them more efficiently. The data pertaining to these Health Centers was classified into different categories such as: Public Health Center, Sub Health Center, Allopathic Center, and private Hospitals. At total of 73 Health Centers were mapped out of them 13 were Public Health Center, 29 were Sub Center, 18 were Allopathic Center, 13 were Private Hospitals. The present study focuses on using Geographic information system and integrating with the Health information system to generate a baseline data for the planning, development and maintenance of these health facilities in Srinagar city.

EVALUATION OF SPATIAL QUALITY IN ELDERLY HOUSING FACILITIES

The elderly population in Iran has dramatically increased in recent decades. Therefore, housing needs of the elderly are becoming more diverse than in the past, in terms of household types, economic status, health status, education level, family relationships, and housing experiences throughout their lifetimes. Most of older people expect to live in a house layout appropriate to their preferences. In reality, however, there is a lack of sufficient housing alternatives to suit their needs. Thus, various housing alternatives need to be developed to allow Iranian elderly to live as they like. This study surveyed the opinions of elderly housing facility staff in selected facilities to identify the opinions of residence-related characteristics and to investigate current problems, difficulties and improvement needs of the social issues and quality of physical space. Results of this study can provide useful information that can facilitate the improvement of alternative plans for elderly housing facilities in the future. Integrating multi-agent evacuation simulation and multi-criteria evaluation for spatial allocation of urban emergency shelters

ABSTRACTThe timely and secure evacuation of residents to nearby urban emergency shelters is of great importance during unexpected disaster events. However, evacuation and allocation of shelters are seldom examined as a whole, even though they are usually closely related tasks in disaster management. To conduct better spatial allocation of emergency shelters in cities, this study proposes a new method which integrates techniques of multi-agent system and multi-criteria evaluation for spatial allocation of urban emergency shelters. Compared with the traditional emergency shelter allocation methods, the proposed method highlights the importance of dynamic emergency evacuation simulations for spatial allocation suitability analysis. Three kinds of agents involved in evacuation and sheltering procedures are designed: government agents, shelter agents, and resident agents. Emergency evacuations are simulated based on the interactions of these agents to find potential problems, for example, time-consuming evacuation processes and road congestion. A case study in Jing’an District, Shanghai, China was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. After three rounds of simulation and optimization, new shelters were spatially allocated and a detailed recommended plan of shelters and related facilities was generated. The optimized spatial allocation of shelters may help local residents to be evacuated more quickly and securely.

Husbands’ participation in birth preparedness and complication readiness and associated factors in Wolaita Sodo town, Southern Ethiopia

BackgroundThe poor emphasis on the role of husbands in birth preparedness and complication readiness (BPCR) is a major factor that should be addressed in tackling maternal mortality.AimTo assess the level of husbands’ participation in BPCR and associated factors.SettingWolaita Sodo town, Southern Ethiopia.MethodsA community based cross-sectional study was conducted among 608 husbands of pregnant women and nursing mothers. Multivariate logistic regression model was used for the analysis.ResultsForty-five per cent of husbands studied had poor participation in BPCR. Out of the total husbands studied, 40% (235) did not identify transportation, 49% (291) did not accompany their wives to antenatal care (ANC) clinic, 59% (350) did not identify skilled birth attendant, 26% (155) did not identify health facility for delivery and 30% (179) did not save money for emergency. Only 42% (250) of husbands had awareness of emergency conditions, while 75% (444) did not make postpartum plan. Husbands who knew the place of birth of the baby [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 7.23; 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.98–17.54] and those who discussed with their wives about birth preparedness (AOR = 2.03; 95% CI: 1.37–3.02) were significantly more likely to participate in BPCR compared to those who did not.ConclusionParticipation of husbands in BPCR was poor in the study area. The level of participation in relation to selection of service provider and health facility, financial and transportation planning for delivery and identifying blood donor needs attention to achieve better husband participation in BPCR.

Differences in Employee Perceptions of Entry-Level Competencies of NIRSA Campus Recreation Professionals

Core competencies are defined as skills, knowledge, and abilities that an employee needs to be successful in a job. There has been research examining competencies in a variety of professional recreation settings, including campus recreation. Research in campus recreation has confirmed the understanding of the NIRSA Core Competencies: program delivery; philosophy and theory; personal and professional qualities; legal liabilities and risk management; human resources management; facility planning, management, and design; business management; and research and evaluation. The purpose of this study was to examine competencies of entry-level employees in campus recreation departments. More specifically, this study investigated differences in perceptions of entry-level competencies between entry-level employees, mid-level, and upper-level employees in campus recreation departments. There were 466 campus recreation professionals that participated in the survey research and analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests indicated that entry-level employees assign greater importance to specific competencies than employees higher up in the organization.

THE INTENSITY OF TRANSPIRATION OF THE LEAVES OF GLYCINE MAX (L.) MERR. DEPENDING ON THE GROWTH PHASE AND THE TIERED ARRANGEMENT ON THE PLANT

The object of the study were 10 varieties of soybeans that were grown on plots of 15 m 2 in four replications. Seeding was carried out breeding seeder calculated 600 thousand of viable seeds per hectare. the way the plots were allocated systematically with offset. The care of crops was carried out in accordance with the recommended regional events. It was demonstrated that leaf transpiration activity of the culture increases sharply in the transition of plants to the generative period of development, reaching a maximum in the phase of mass fruit formation, when the most active growth and, consequently, the demand for assimilate. The intensity of transpiration of leaves during this period of plant development was by 8.22 mmol H 2 O/m 2 c. The highest transpiration activity was typical for the upper leaves located in the generative sphere of plants, the lowest - activity was fount for the lowerst leaves. On the 5th node from the bottom, its value was 2.2 times lower compared to the assimilating leaves at the top of the plants (3-4 knots top). Thus, the most intensive evaporation of the water by leaves are held from 9:00 to 13:00 hours Moscow time. The intensity of transpiration in this period amounted to an average of 5.42 mmol H 2 O/m 2 c, which was 19.9% higher than in the morning (from 7:00 to 8:00) and 42.3% in the afternoon (from 15:00 to 17:00).

An Impaled Potential Unexploded Device in the Civilian Trauma Setting: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

BackgroundThe management of patients with impaled unexploded devices is rare in the civilian setting. However, as the lines of the traditional battlefield are blurred by modern warfare and terrorist activity, emergency providers should be familiar with facility protocols, plans, and contact information of their local resources for unexploded devices. Case ReportA 44-year-old male sustained a close-proximity blast injury to his lower extremities while manipulating a mortar-type firework. He presented to the regional trauma center with an open, comminuted distal femur fracture and radiographic evidence of a potential explosive device in his thigh. His management was coordinated with the local Explosive Ordinance Disposal and the fire department. Why Should an Emergency Physician Be Aware of This?Explosive devices pose a grave threat when encountered. Familiarization with protocols to manage these patients can mitigate disaster. Emergency providers should expect and be prepared to coordinate care for these patients.

Spatial planning of biogas processing facilities in Greece: The sunflower's capabilities and the waste-to-bioproducts approach

This study examines the potential contribution to biogas national production, by cultivating sunflower, using modern techniques, in the plains of the prefecture of Karditsa, Greece. The main purpose of this study is to determine the potential quantity of biogas that could be eventually produced in the plains, by applying the latest methods to the cultivation, growth and harvesting of the sunflower. Using regional and national data, this study ranked the agricultural areas of the prefecture of Karditsa and created a suitability map on the needs of the sunflower. The illustrated results provide some support for the future investors or the present farmers in the area. The developed GIS maps may become a useful tool for the prediction of the income from the calculated quantity and quality of sunflower crops’ seeds or biogas production. Spatial planning analysis for the determination of the installation of a biogas’ facility centre, where sunflower's derivatives will be processed for ethanol production was also implemented. On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that Karditsa’s plains have a great potential for producing 3818ktoe of biogas and succeed Greece's 2020s goal on biofuel production (10% of total fuel consumption) by utilizing the maps and the techniques presented on this study. A supplementary study of converting waste (household bio-waste) to bioethanol and the future potentials of the process were illustrated and presented, based on the fact that bio-waste production is and will continue to increase.

An integrated approach for facilities planning by ELECTRE method

Facility planning is concerned with the design, layout, and accommodation of people, machines and activities of a system. Most of the researchers try to investigate the production area layout and the related facilities. However, few of them try to investigate the relationship between the production space and its relationship with service departments. The aim of this research to is to integrate different approaches in order to evaluate, analyse and select the best facilities planning method that able to explain the relationship between the production area and other supporting departments and its effect on human efforts. To achieve the objective of this research two different approaches have been integrated: Apple’s layout procedure as one of the effective tools in planning factories, ELECTRE method as one of the Multi Criteria Decision Making methods (MCDM) to minimize the risk of getting poor facilities planning. Dalia industries have been selected as a case study to implement our integration the factory have been divided two main different area: the whole facility (layout A), and the manufacturing area (layout B). This article will be concerned with the manufacturing area layout (Layout B). After analysing the data gathered, the manufacturing area was divided into 10 activities. There are five factors that the alternative were compared upon which are: Inter department satisfactory level, total distance travelled for workers, total distance travelled for the product, total time travelled for the workers, and total time travelled for the product. Three different layout alternatives have been developed in addition to the original layouts. Apple’s layout procedure was used to study and evaluate the different alternatives layouts, the study and evaluation of the layouts was done by calculating scores for each of the factors. After obtaining the scores from evaluating the layouts, ELECTRE method was used to compare the proposed alternatives with each other and with the existing layout; ELECTRE compares the alternatives based on their concordance and discordance indices. The alternatives were ranked from best to worst where regarding to the layouts concerned with the manufacturing area B.4 is the best alternative.

In such systems, a customer arrives at a repair queue with a failed component which is replaced from stocks of previously repaired components. Various strategies and service measures have been discussed. Customers who arrive with a single failed component type will be referred to the appropriate service queue which will exchange the failed component. The waiting time distribution for a single failed component has also been developed. Formation and maintenance of the territorial balance in the conditions of high-rise construction in the city

High-rise construction results in the need of planning of infrastructure facilities, taking into account the increase in loading, as high-rise construction allows to place considerably bigger number of residents in the limited territory. For this purpose it is necessary to estimate the required and actual level of providing the population with each particular type of the facilities of social infrastructure. The compliance of required and actual level of providing can be characterized as the territorial balance, while the discrepancy acts as the territorial imbalance. The article is devoted to the development of such instruments of planning of urban development, which will allow to create the qualitative urban environment, founded on the territorial balances. Namely, it is devoted to the calculation of level of providing the population with the facilities of social infrastructure, to the determination of level of the imbalance in absolute and relative units and also to the ranging of imbalances on urgency of their elimination. The size of the imbalance is of great importance for planning and realization of managerial influences from the executive authorities, operating the city development. In order to determine the urgency of realization of actions for the construction of facilities of social infrastructure it is offered to range the imbalances according to their size, having determined the deviation size from balance, which is so insignificant that it does not demand any managerial influences (it can be characterized as balance) and also the groups of the imbalances, differing in urgency of managerial influences, directed to the decrease and elimination of the revealed imbalance.

Strengthening Borders, Managing Centres: Reception Conditions and Provisions of Services to Asylum Seekers in Croatia

This article analyses the impact that the Common European Asylum System may have on asylum seekers residing in reception centres within Croatia, as well as more recent challenges related to increased asylum seekers’ numbers and difficulties they might pose for the reception standards and provision of services. We posit that a degree of variation occurs in the treatment of asylum seekers throughout reception centres in the EU. The analysis sheds light on the Croatian asylum reception system, one that had been legally obligated to fully harmonise its policies with the EU acquis during the EU accession process. Based on the field research in the form of semi-structured interviews among the stakeholders and asylum seekers at the Reception Centre for Asylum Seekers Kutina in 2016, the findings will demonstrate that although Croatia has fully adapted its regulations to the Reception Conditions Directive, there are still issues regarding the minimum standards of quality of reception, service provision and future integration of protection claimants. The authors contend that gaps and insufficiencies in the reception conditions and standards are directly decreasing asylum seekers’ future prospects by affecting their chances of integration into Croatian society and resulting in significant secondary movement of these migrants to other EU countries. Even more, in the aftermath of the Balkan corridor, the present challenges of increased numbers of asylum applicants are calling for the planning of new and proper reception facilities, which is difficult to accomplish in the context of overtly securitised asylum and migration policies.
